chapter twenty nine
Third Person POV
Heiji sighed, looking at herself in the mirror, tugging down at the ends of her dress.
She noticed how she was losing weight in all the wrong places, her once rounded hips began to fall flat and she didn't like it, she was afraid she'd appear frail to some people. That's what she got for neglecting herself over a boy for months. A part of her still told herself that it was worth it, he was worth it. She felt stupid for looking at herself and believing that if Sunwoo was here, he'd be telling her how beautiful she was, boosting her confidence in an instant. But he wasn't here, and he would never be. So Haknyeons compliments would have to do.
"Stop pulling it you'll make a dent in the fabric," he swats her hand away, standing behind her as she looked at herself in the mirror. "You look great, why is your face like that?"
"Why is my face like what?"
Haknyeon pulls his eyebrows together to form a frown, pushing down on the sides of his mouth with his fingers and dragging his lips downwards. "Like this."
"It does not," Heiji pushes him. "I just want to look nice."
"You do," Haknyeon points at her. "Who do you want to look nice for, missy?"
"I'm hosting a party, I don't want to look like shit," Heiji bites back. "Who said I had to look nice for anyone?"
"Heiji!" Mia shouts from downstairs, hearing her open the door and greet people, who she assumed to be the two couples. "The lovebirds are here, and these guys I don't know."
Haknyeon looks at her suspiciously. "Who the hell did you invite?"
"Some of the guys I work with," she says, quickly fixing her hair and taking one final look at herself, seeing Haknyeons face scrunch up from beside her, she knew what he was about to jokingly say. "I'll call myself a whore before you get the chance to."
"I wasn't going to say that!" Haknyeon follows her down the stairs. "I was going to say something more polite, like... hoe."
When Heiji gets to the bottom of the stairs, she sees Eric and Jacob standing with two other guys she didn't know. She didn't mind so much, she trusted they wouldn't bring assholes to her house. "Hey guys," Heiji smiles, approaching the four. "Glad you could make it."
"Hey," Eric says, casually opening a can he had in his hand. "This is my friend Hyunjoon, he never misses a party so I thought I'd bring him."
"Sure," Heiji smiles, turning to the boy. She was stunned by his looks, he looked so intimidating until he gave her a smile. "I'm Heiji, nice to meet you."
The boy shook her hand, shocking Heiji as he lifted her hand and placed a small kiss on it. Eric pushed him lightly, swatting his hand away from hers jokingly. "Stop it, playboy."
Heiji laughs, turning to see Jacob and his friend who was also staggeringly handsome. "I'm Heiji."
"I'm Younghoon," he says politely, and she could now understand why him and Jacob were friends. "It's lovely to meet you. You have a lovely house, thank you for inviting us to it."
Heiji was shocked by his politeness, in comparison to Hyunjoon and Eric, she could tell there was a clear age gap and maturity difference. She didn't care, both of them were respectable enough. "Pleasure is all mine, enjoy your night guys, I'll see you around."
Walking away from the boys, Heiji's door bell rang again before the person invited themselves in, almost walking straight into the girl. He steadied her with his hands. "Hey."
"Hi Hyunjae," Heiji smiled, giving the boy a light hug. "Glad you could make it."
Before the two get to say anything else, Haknyeon and Mia pull the girl towards the kitchen with a large bottle of alcohol in their hands. "Shots?"
"I should've guessed."
Heiji laughed as the girls reminisced in her dining room with their drinks in their hands, Heiji's favourite part of the night was when everyone was drunk and mellow, talking about the past. It made her feel nostalgic, and content - she had good friends and has had a great life.
"I'm gonna go check that my kitchen hasn't been wrecked," Heiji says not much beyond a slur. "Be right back."
Walking through the living room, she sees Eric and Hyunjoon sitting on the couch together, drinking and having a laugh. Eric's laughter rang throughout the whole house, quite literally. She didn't care though - he wasn't causing trouble. He nodded at her and smiled as she walked by, letting her know he was having a good time.
When she got to the kitchen, she seen a sight she never thought she would see. And that was Younghoon and Jacob, staggering around, arm in arm, singing songs with shot glasses surrounding them. It wasn't an uncleanable mess, fortunately.
"You guys good?" Heiji laughs at the two struggling to look straight in her eyes. Her voice clearly caught them off guard, as they staggered backwards. "You two are crazy, would never have thought."
"Have a shot with us, m'lady?" Younghoon attempts to bow down graciously, but Jacob pulls him up by his arm in fears that he would fall, which he would have.
"Sure, why not?" There was no need for Heiji to take another drink right now, she was pretty away with it, but to be a good host, she thought it would be nice to take a shot with the boys.
Once she had swallowed the shot, she could swear she felt it rising back up in her throat - but she pushed it back down. Saying bye to the boys, she made her way upstairs, to find someone she didn't even know was here.
"Sangyeon?" She smiles, as the man exits her bathroom. "I'm glad you came."
"I'm never too old for a party," he laughs, pulling the girl in for a small hug. "Are you having fun?"
Heiji nods from beneath him, swaying a little as he tried to steady her. "Sangyeon?"
"What's wrong?" He looks at the girl, and notices her face screw up, he knew what was coming. He guided her to the toilet, placing his hand lightly on her back and held her hair as best as he could in his hand, even trying to hold back her bangs. She began to throw up, she knew this was coming.
Once she was done, she held her head in embarrassment, remembering she was currently being sick at her own party because she couldn't handle her drink - and her manager was helping her.
"Thank you, Sangyeon," she stands up slowly, reaching for her toothbrush. The man just laughs, nodding and watching to make sure she was stable enough to stand on her own. Truthfully, she felt a little bit more sober after that. "Please never mention this ever again."
"You got it," he laughs, patting her back. "You might want to change, you got a little on your dress."
She looks down to see the small stain, before smiling back at the man in the mirror. "Go have fun, don't worry about me. Thank you again, I'll see you soon."
He nods, walking away as the girl brushes her teeth and rinses her mouth with mouthwash about four times until the taste was finally gone. She headed to her room, changing from her dress into a nice beige loungewear set that would still be presentable to walk around the house in.
As she lifted the think jumper over her head, the room door opens slightly, but she couldn't see anyone there. "Hello?" She jerks the jumper over her chest quickly, hoping whoever it was wouldn't see.
"Hey," Hyunjae says from outside the door, not wanting to look in and pry on her privacy. "Can I come in?"
"Sure," Heiji quickly put her bare feet in to her bear slippers, the boy walking into the room and lightly closing the door behind him. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah," he says quietly, walking over to sit on her bed as she closely followed. "Are you having a good time?"
"Apart from throwing my guts up," the two laugh. "It's been a good night so far. Are you?"
"Yeah," he turns to face the girl. His hand reached up to her face, and Heiji almost backed away at the sudden contact. "Stay still, you have a mark on your face."
He licks his finger quickly and wipes it away, Heiji just responds by nodding. The close contact made her feel a bit on edge, only because it was him.
"I'm sorry things have been weird between us," he suddenly blurts, looking into the girls eyes. "It's my fault. I shouldn't have kissed you at Christmas, things were already awkward enough."
"I guess," Heiji shrugged, trying to pass off the situation as less of a big deal than it was. "It's okay though. It's done now, we're still friends, right?"
"We are," the boy smiles contently, giving her a small nod before he looked towards his knees again. "Was it wrong?"
"Was what wrong?"
Hyunjae sighs, not speaking for a while before looking back at her. "Kissing you, was it wrong?"
"Well," Heiji breathes out, staring at the boy. She didn't want to hurt his feelings, or make things worse, but she had to say what was on her mind. "Seoho was your best friend, I guess it was kind of wrong."
"It was just a game, right?" Hyunjae looks at her hopelessly, as though he was just asking what he wanted to hear. He wanted to hear that she agreed - it was just all a joke, all to be a good sport in a stupid little game. He was just scared that wasn't the case for how he felt. "It didn't mean anything."
"You tell me," Heiji tried to joke. "You're the one who asked to kiss me."
The boy doesn't speak for another while, the silence falls over the both of them and Heiji couldn't bare it much longer. She knew she had messed up by saying such a thing, and Hyunjae was too deep in thought about the situation.
"Forget I said anything," Heiji reassures the boy by placing a hand on his knee. "It didn't, Hyunjae. You're not a bad person for what happened, it was nothing."
"I think I am," Hyunjae starts, turning to look at the girl beside him. "I think I'm a bad person."
Heiji's breath caught in her throat, what the hell was he talking about? "Why would you say that?"
"Because I want to do it again," he says honestly, looking somewhat desperately between her eyes. "I don't know why I do, I just do."
Heiji stared at the boy blankly, she didn't know what to say or how to act in that moment.
Hyunjaes mind was running in circles. Why her? Was it because she was the last thing he could associate with his lost best friend, he wanted something to hold on to him? Or was it because his best friend had hurt her so much, that she looked so fragile and in need of loving and affection that he felt like he could give her? Why did he want to fix Seoho's wrong doings, by giving her that affection?
All he knew was he desired the girl before him, he wanted her.
"Heiji?" He asks softly, as the girl barely responds. "Would you let me?"
With her breath in her throat, unsure of what to do, Heiji yet again doesn't say anything. She thought back to her conversation with Haknyeon - after that first proper encounter with someone else, she'd be able to forget about Sunwoo. Maybe this is what she needed to do. Well, maybe not quite - but her drunken state chose to ignore that.
With no hesitation, Heiji nods, as Hyunjae crashes his lips on hers. The kiss was desperate, but it was passionate. Heiji wondered why his lips felt like that against hers, but she needn't question it, it felt good. It felt good to properly kiss someone who wasn't him. All of her worries melted away in Hyunjae's lips.
"God," Hyunjae hummed against her lips, the air felt heated as he pulled the girl upon his lap. "How could they ever have let you go?"
Heiji smiled into the kiss, his words were nice, but she couldn't go much further if the thought of them entered her head again.
Neither of them could go further as the door swiftly opened, someone coughing to get their attention.
"Sorry."
