chapter thirty three

Third Person POV

The following days for Sunwoo were brutal. He found himself spiralling again, except for this time - he had no where to run.

He couldn't go back to the other side of the country, he promised her he wouldn't leave her again, and he wouldn't, even if she was with someone else. It wasn't as though he hadn't done it before.

The boy tried to tell himself that what he saw was nothing, that she was hurting and she could have been drunk. He did wait in his car for a long time, and he had no clue why. He told himself that he should leave, there was no use in waiting, but he didn't listen. And this is what he got.

Another heartbreak.

He felt angry, part of him wanted to storm inside the house and pull whoever that bastard was off of her. The thoughts raced through his mind, if she was drunk, was someone taking advantage of her state? Or was she doing this to get over the pain he had caused her? Even worse, was she doing it because she really wanted to? Did she love someone else?

It was better, however, that he didn't know who the person was. He didn't want the image of her and whoever it was together, doing unimaginable things that only he should have been doing with her. For their sake, he didn't want to know who it was, because Sunwoo was fearful of the rage that would take over from him if he ever found out.

"Where are you going?" His sister peaks her head out from behind her room door, hearing the floorboards creak, signalling Sunwoo had finally left his room for the first time in almost a week.

"Just out," Sunwoo smiles lightly at the girl, ruffling her hair as he walks past. "I'll be home later."

The girl stays quiet, fearful that he wouldn't return. "You promise?"

Another promise he has to keep. "I promise."

He throws her one last smile and a quick pinch at her cheek, before jogging down the stairs. He wanted to quickly sweep out of the house without anyone seeing, but he was unsuccessful.

"Where are you going?" He hears his mother call from the living room.

"I'm just going out," Sunwoo sighs, walking in to see just his mother sat, before explaining again. "I'll be back later."

"Where are you going?" His mother repeats. Ever since he left, she wanted to remain cautious to her sons whereabouts.

"I don't know," he blurts. "I just need out, I need fresh air. I'll drive somewhere, I'll be home for 10, is that okay?"

His mother sighs, she wanted to trust the boy so badly but she felt as though she couldn't. She however knew he couldn't gain her trust if she didn't give him the opportunity to prove or disprove her. "Okay. Please text me when you're coming home."

"Okay," Sunwoo breathes out, giving his mother a smile. "I will. Bye, eomma."

He was glad his father wasn't quite home yet. Their relationship only soured when Sunwoo appeared back at their doorstep. They couldn't not let him back in, but that didn't mean his father would take it easy on him.

The only thing he was glad about was that Sunwoo dropped out of university, his father hoped he would pursue something else.

Tonight, the boy decided to drive. He didn't know where, he just wanted to drive around until he was tired and could fall asleep without seeing the vision of Heiji preparing to sleep with someone else.

He found himself driving down some back roads, before he found himself at the beach he took Heiji all those months ago.

He could almost still hear the hesitation in her voice whenever they moved through the branches, he could still see her beautiful smile reflecting the moonlight as she sat in awe of where he took her.

He remembered that night, it was so clear in his memory. He knew the moment she asked if he had brought Jiwoo here that he finally had her.

He laughs, sitting down in the sand as a few people walked past him. This was the spot.

The boy lay down, notably in the same position he was in when the girl turned to him with the concerned look on her face. She was jealous, he knew she was, and it truthfully felt great. It was then he knew, that she wanted him the same way he wanted her. And from there on, he didn't give up.

He didn't give up. So why should he now?

Barely taking a moment to savour the scenery in front of him, his favourite place in all its beauty, he jolted upwards and decided to get back in his car and drive.

Again, he never knew where exactly he was going - although he did have a rough idea.

He wasn't giving up the chase, he had done it once and won her over again, he pondered how right now could be so different.

The circumstances had changed, but his love for her never faltered, it only got stronger with every passing moment.

He arrived on the girls street, checking to see if her mother's car was there, although thankfully it wasn't.

It only took him a minute before he returned to his car, having exited and seeing that her room light was not on like always, and for once, her curtains were closed.

There was only one other place she could be. Although, Sunwoo started to doubt that when his mind flooded with visions of her and the mysterious man.

However, he made his way there. Given that it was 7pm, she could only be here - if she hadn't changed that much in the last few months, but Sunwoo still had his doubts.

"What are you doing?" Sunwoo grumbles to himself, looking at the lit up store sign that was across the road. "You look like a creep."

He pondered for a moment longer, was it really worth risking looking like a stalker? He could just chap her door one day and they could hopefully talk it out.

Except, Sunwoo wasn't sure if he was actually emotionally, mentally prepared to talk to her yet.

So instead, he decided to get out of his car and wandered over to outside the store, hiding himself behind his hood as he stood glancing in.

Is she even here?

He waited a while, eyeing the till area to see if he could spot her, instead he just spotted a handsome man who he assumed to be the manager since his uniform was much better than the one Heiji wore.

Then she appeared. He watched as the girl held the sides of the mans arms, trying to squeeze past him in a tight space. He felt his chest tighten at the thought of how lucky that man was to be pressed so close against her. He felt his heartbeat quicken, he couldn't bare the sight of any other man close to her - but he had to keep his composure.

He watched whilst the man and her spoke, the smile never leaving his face. He began to wonder if it was him.

Surely not, he looks like he's her manager, that would be highly unprofessional.

Except, Sunwoo wasn't wholly sure. He didn't look much older than them, sure, he was built a lot bigger than Sunwoo and most guys his age, that was one of the only things which gave away that he was that little bit older.

The more he looked at the man, he came to the conclusion that it could very well of been him. Even if he was older, and her manager, his handsome and charming looks would be enough for any sane girl to still take the risk. He wondered if Heiji was any different.

"You hung out with Eric the whole night?" Heiji laughs, turning to see her manager writing in his folder.

"I did," he rolls his eyes. "And his friend. My god, they were a handful."

"You're telling me," Heiji laughs. "They were okay, they didn't cause too much trouble, or any for all I remember."

"Hmm." Sangyeon purses his lips, looking at the girl.

"What?"

"How would you know, you were barely downstairs." He begins to laugh a little as Heiji's face dropped.

"And how would you know?" Heiji mocks his tone of voice, earning a hearty laugh from the man as he put down the folder before looking back up to her eyes.

"Because I was looking for you."

Heiji almost felt a blush creep up on her face again, why was he saying this? She couldn't deny the mans look or his aura, she was surprised on the first day of her job when she was greeted by such a handsome man. She initially thought it would hard to work alongside someone so attractive, but that melted away the more she got to know him on a more professional level, if you can even call a convenience store professional

"Why?" She almost blurts out, and he notices that he made her feel a little nervous and tense.

"Well," he sighs, looking to the ground then back up at her as he took a few steps closer. "Considering I only knew you, Eric and Jacob, I was alone for most of the night or getting tormented by Eric and his rascal of a friend."

"Oh," escapes the girls lips. "I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it," he throws her a small wink, before turning back to his folders. He looks over at the girl from behind his shoulder, noticing how she was awkwardly standing now. Had he flustered her? "Would have been nice to have a drink with you."

He watched as the girls eyes moved around the shop, she seemed to be having an internal conversation with herself. Which she was. What the hell was going on?

He closed the folders, standing up straight and turning to face her again. Her face was flushed. She never usually got this bothered, but so many things were running through her mind.

Why were men now peaking up with their interests in her? Was he even interested? Is he even allowed to be interested?

"Yeah," she breathes out, plucking up the courage to face the man. "It would have been. Sorry for neglecting you."

Sunwoo watched the scene before him, he seen as her face turned red at the mans words. He just knew it was him. The way things looked to him, he mentioned their little night together, making her blush and act all flustered. He had cracked it.

However, he couldn't do anything about it. Besides the fact the man was double his width and seemingly looked like he had much more strength, he knew from the girls face - she wasn't his anymore. And with that, he knew he had to walk away, to back home and suffer in his bedroom all over again.

"You better be," Sangyeon jokes as the girl laughs, looking elsewhere to avoid his gaze. "Well, you could make it up to me..."

"How so?" Heiji sharply turns yet speaks with a stutter, his voice lowering to a whisper as he eyes the customers walking innocently around the store.

"We both have a night off next Friday," he starts. "Would you like to come for a drink with me?"

Heiji felt as though the stars had aligned for her. The universe wanted her to get over Sunwoo, and it was giving her all the right opportunities to do so, so why shouldn't she?

With no hesitation, Heiji nods before the man shoots her a charming smile. "It's a date."
