chapter nineteen

(A/N sappy and long(ish) chapter here!)

Third Person POV

"Please tell me this is the right one," Heiji feels a tap on her shoulder as she's waiting in the halls for Sunwoo, instead she turns to be greeted by Seoho. "It's a different colour, I don't know if they changed the packaging."

Heiji studies the little bottle, before smiling and giving a thumbs up to Seoho. "That's the one."

"Thank god," he laughs, handing it over to her as silence washes over them.

"You didn't have to do this," Heiji twirls the mascara packaging in her hand. "What can I get you as a 'sorry gift'?"

"Nothing," the boy answers. "I swear, just being your friend again is good enough."

Despite the boy generally being quiet and reserved with his words, sometimes he did hit out with some sappy stuff that even made himself cringe, but he meant what he said. If he couldn't love the girl and give her what she needs, then he'll simply have to make do with just being in her life as her friend. Or does he?

"I better get going," Seoho announces, trying to defer from the awkward silence that fell upon them, but before he even gets the chance to say anything else, someone appears beside Heiji, eyeing the boy. "I'll see you guys later."

Sunwoo looks at the man suspiciously, then back at Heiji. "Is everything alright?"

"Nice to see you too," Heiji says sarcastically, pulling him in for a hug. "Everything's fine, why?"

"Nothing, sorry," the boy bites down on his tongue to stop him from speaking words of the green eyed monster. "Are you guys okay now?"

"I told you we had talked," the two begin to walk towards the car park. "He's okay, he bought me something to make up for what happened."

Sunwoo's eyes widened. What was this guy playing at? "What was the gift?"

"Just this mascara," she showed Sunwoo the package, innocently - not really thinking much of it. Sunwoo's mind however, was running in circles. He even remembered tiny details such as the type of mascara she used? He felt as though it was some sort of competition, although it wasn't. He could barely remember what he had for breakfast this morning, never mind an item he could find in Heiji's handbag. "Hey, you alright?"

Sunwoo snaps out of his daydream, "I'm fine, sorry." As they approach the car, he opens the door for Heiji, as always.

"Where would you like to go?" Sunwoo asks the girl beside him.

"Anywhere," Heiji replies. She didn't like saying anywhere in case she came off as being difficult or too indecisive, but she truly didn't mind. As long as they spent time together, it was grand.

"I have an idea."

Heiji wrapped her scarf around her neck, and Sunwoo buttoned his jacket up higher as the two walked towards the twinkling, flashing lights.

Christmas was just under a month away, so Sunwoo decided to take Heiji to the market stalls that were set up in the city. He knew Heiji loved Christmas and the whole atmosphere surrounding it, so this was a perfect little date for the pair.

He turns around to see her eyes widen in surprise at the beautiful decorations and lights, the variety of stalls, as she breathes in deeply through her nose - smiling even wider when she smells the amazing food. He watches her face go through all these different emotions, and he can't help but smile at her. She looks over to him, letting out a little scream and doing a little dance on the spot.

Sunwoo offers the girl his hand, which she willingly grabs, before she leads the two through the crowd of people towards the different stalls. "Look at all of this, Sunwoo."

She points at the lights above their heads, the bright signs and decorated Christmas trees randomly allocated between each of the small, wooden, cosy hut stalls. "I can't miss them," he pretends to cover his eyes from the brightness as Heiji laughs.

"Food, Sunwoo!" She excitedly tugs his arm, pointing at the long hut which was selling a variety of food from different countries. "European food!"

"I haven't tried the majority of this stuff," Sunwoo's eyes widen at the selection before him, it looked incredible. "What do you want to try first?"

"First?" Heiji turned to look at him with wide eyes. "We're having more than one bit of food?"

"If that's what you want," Sunwoo smiles at the girl. It was adorable how excited she had become since they had got here. Her eyes were full of childlike wonder and amazement, and it was the cutest thing he had ever seen. "Let's try these."

"Can you pronounce that?" Heiji asks the boy, reading closely at the words written.

"You're the one who can speak better English," Sunwoo argues, taking a step back as the girl groans.

"That isn't even English," Heiji points towards the German and Austrian flags beside the stall, before the boy face palms.

"Could we please have one.. schup-fnudeln? Schupfnudlen?" Heiji looks over at Sunwoo for some sort of support, instead he is hiding his face under his jumper, trying not to laugh at the girl. "One Schupfnudlen, please."

The man behind the stall begins to laugh himself, before surprisingly opening his mouth to speak Korean. "Just the one to share?"

Heiji lets out a somewhat sigh of relief, as the man and Sunwoo continue giggling at her attempt. "Yes, please. And please tell me after all that embarrassment that I pronounced it correctly."

"Best attempt I've heard all night," the man behind the stall laughs, fetching the potato noodles. "There you go, enjoy."

The two thank the man, grabbing a couple of forks and finding a small ledge to sit on. "You attempting to speak German was entertainment."

"Shut up," the girl lodges a bit of the food in the boys mouth. "I tried my best."

"I can't lie, it was kind of hot," Sunwoo says casually before biting down on the potato before his eyes widened. "This is good."

"Hot?" The girl questions.

"Yeah, you were like," Sunwoo turns to face the girl, turning on a mocking seductive face and tone of voice, growling and moaning a little as he touched his chest, repeating "Schupfnudlen".

The girl lets out a loud laugh, "I'll learn more German words then."

"Please don't, it was a train wreck." Sunwoo jokes, earning a slap on the arm from the girl beside him.

The pair took a stroll around the stalls, every so often Heiji would let out a "ooooh" and her face would light up, Sunwoo thought it was a better sight than any of the pretty, lit decorations that were in this place - but that goes without saying.

"Look at these, Sunwoo," Heiji gasped, letting go of his hand to go over to the stall. Behind the stall was an old man, who was working on what he was selling in the stall. The whole stall contained different types of tree decorations, differing colours and shapes. All of them had been hand painted and decorated by this one man, it was beyond impressive. "These are amazing."

The little man nodded his head, thanking the girl, watching as she looked around amazed at his work. He felt grateful for moments like this, seeing first-hand how people reacted to his craft. "What is your name, young lady?"

"Song Heiji," she bowed as he did too, placing her hand out to shake his. "And you, sir?"

"Han Dong-suk," he shakes the girls hand before turning his attention to the boy beside her. "Nice to meet you both."

"Kim Sun Woo."

The man took note of the couples names, fetching a small and clear ball whilst attaching a gold ribbon to it. He began sketching out the design of the ball. The two watched as he continued what he was doing, Sunwoo wasn't as enthusiastic as Heiji was, but seeing someone do something they love and put so much love in to it, he admired that.

The two waited, standing in silence apart from when other people were visiting the stall, muttering greetings and moving out of the way to allow the people to explore.

"Miss Song?" She hears the old mans voice, as she gently makes her way through the people to reach him.

He dangles the bauble he had made on his fingers by the gold ribbon he had attached. The letters S.H & K.SW were painted on beautifully and carefully. The decoration included a combination of paid homages to the twos names. The snowflakes, ribbon and small details were in gold for Sunwoos surname, which meant gold. For Heiji, the man had drawn small daisies which lay around the base of the bauble, with gold flower heads in the middle. Daisies weren't very Christmassy, but somehow he had managed to make it look the part. The consideration in the work of this man was enough to blow the two of them away.

"Wow," Heiji gasps, inspecting it as Sunwoo shook the mans hand. "This is incredible, and so considerate - we can't thank you enough."

Heiji digs through her bag to find her purse, but Sunwoo had already handed the man double the amount he was charging over to him. The two bowed and thanked the man, as Heiji walked away with the bauble carefully in her hands still admiring it. Sunwoo almost stopped for a second too long, admiring how happy the girl looked as she looking at something else with such adoration in her eyes. It was a beautiful sight.

"Heiji's, they're special," Dong-suk called to Sunwoo, the boy turning to look at him. "They're very special women."

He lightly points to a photo frame sitting behind his desk, a photo of his younger self and assumedly his wife, with the words "Han Dong-suk & Han Heiji" engraved on the lower half of the frame. He smiles adoringly at the picture, as Sunwoo bows his head to the man, throwing him a smile. "I know."

He waves again to the man, before catching up with the girl who was still in awe of the decoration. "You see how he incorporated the both of us into it?"

"Yeah," Sunwoo nods, leaning his head on her shoulder with his arms loosely hanging around her waist. "What a talent."

"Will we take turns?" Heiji turns to face the boy.

"Turns of what?" He looks down at the girl, his hands tightening a bit around her waist. It was natural instinct to the boy, they were currently so close but he wanted them to be closer.

"Well it has both of our initials," the girl starts, "and we obviously don't live together. He made it for both of us - so we can take turns of putting it on our tree?"

"Sure, let's do that." He smiles, placing a small kiss on the girls forehead before moving a stray bit of hair out of her face. Just as he does so, he sees a small drip from the sky launch itself upon the girls nose.

"Is it raining?" The girl quickly wipes the wet off of her face, looking up to see Sunwoo's eyes widen, before he smiles and shakes his head excitedly - that's when Heiji realises. "You're kidding me!"

It was finally snowing. The first day of snowfall was today, in the most Christmassy atmosphere there could be. Heiji was ecstatic, she bounced up and down lightly on her feet whilst still in Sunwoo's grasp, as the boy smiled and looked up at the snow falling. He looked down to see the girls big eyes scanning the sky with the same expression that had been playing on her face all day, and he knew he would never grow tired of seeing the girl happy.

"This is amazing." Heiji's free hand comes out to catch the flakes in her hand, as more start to cover her face and hair.

"You know what would make it even more amazing?" Sunwoo's hands wrap around the girls waist, their faces so close that his nose touched lightly upon her forehead.

"Hmm?"

His left hand reaches and rests gently under the girls jawline, tucking itself around the back of her neck and pulling her forward, as she reaches up to secure their lips together. It wasn't a kiss like their first time, that was great - but this felt like there was more to it than a desperation to finally touch one another. Neither of the two cared that they were in public, despite being a bit secluded, it didn't matter. They were too immersed in the warmth of each other and the security that they felt from the simple touch of their lips.

"At least this was better than our first date," Sunwoo pulls away, admiring the girls beautiful features. He felt like he had to stop, or he would simply not get enough of her. "And hopefully there's many more like this."
