chapter forty eight

Third Person POV

"His parents were downstairs?"

The boy looks at the girl in disbelief, his mouth agape whilst she sat there, relatively still. "Yes."

"He has no shame," Haknyeon tuts, looking at Heiji with wide eyes as she laughs at his words. "You have no shame either, so I don't know why you're laughing, missy."

"It was one time," Heiji shrugs. "I was hesitant at first."

"And you still did it!" The boy playfully slaps her arm. "Well, won't you tell me how it was?"

"I'm not quite sure you want to hear it," the corners of her lips tug downwards as the boy hides his face behind her arm, letting out a squeal.

"Hit me with it," the boy says with his hands ready to cover his ears and his face grimaced as she opened her mouth again.

"It was amazing," she gushes over-dramatically to make the boy make an even most disgusted face, however, she wasn't lying. "You asked to hear it."

"It's disgusting," he shakes his head jokingly. "No seriously, though, was he good?"

"Hak!" Heiji slaps the boys arm. "If you must know, he was amazing. You're the only person I'll be telling how good my boyfriend is at sex."

"Now that you say it like that, I sound weird for asking," Haknyeon shrugs and laughs. "I'm glad, though. I told you it would be different from when you were with Hyunjae."

Even the mention of the boys name made Heiji's stomach turn, even more so since she would be seeing him today.

She had thought about the boy and the situation more often than she should have. Her heart felt heavy, a certain kind of sorrow that she had made the boy feel that way. Although, she couldn't do anything about it now.

He was her friend, above anything else. She however knew their relationship would never be the same after this, and that Sunwoo wouldn't be particularly happy if they had any form of relationship again.

She couldn't blame him for feeling that way. She knew he was friends or close to someone who was in love with him, she wouldn't approve of it.

"What do you think I should do today?" The girl blurts, looking for the support from her best friend.

"What do you mean?"

"About Hyunjae."

The boy let out a soft 'oh', glancing at the girl as her face tripped with worry and concerned eyes. The truth is, he thought about the situation too, and he too couldn't reach a conclusion.

"I'm probably just as conflicted as you are," he nods as the girls face looks even more distraught. "Hey, stop worrying about it, please."

"I can't help it," she mutters and sits down beside him. "I feel like it's my fault."

"I mean," the boy attempts to lighten the mood. "Not many girls can say they've had the same trouble that you've had with the boys. Three boys in love with you at the one time - it's pretty impressive above anything else."

"Not helping, Hak," the girl says jokingly. "He's my friend. We weren't always the closest but I had a bond with him, I ruined things the second I didn't deny him. If I stayed away, he wouldn't feel this way nor would he have had that outburst at Seoho."

"You weren't in the best state, Heiji," the boy reasons. "You had lost the person you loved, affection was offered to you and so you took it. It's only natural - anyone would have done the same."

"Except for you?" The girl half jokes as the boy laughs.

"Exactly," he says sassily. "I don't need to worry about this shit with myself, so I'll just worry with you, for you."

"Now he won't speak to you?" Heiji asks, looking at Lia quizzed.

"Nope," she tuts, looking to the back of the cafe. "I don't know what to do."

"You shouldn't have to do anything," Jinsoul says from behind the girl. "Let him come to you. None of this is your fault."

Heiji smiles pitifully at the girl who looked down at her plate with sadness in her eyes.

She wondered how Kevin was feeling, and what made him react like this. Although she looked at her life long friend looking this painfully sad, she couldn't help but feel that sense of resonation with the boys feelings.

Lia was considering moving back to Canada to continue her studies. It was convenient for her, some of her family still lived there and socially, she still had a lot of friends.

It would be sad to see her go, Heiji could feel the weight in her heart as she told her, although she knew that Lia would only be doing what was best for her.

But she couldn't help but think about how heartbroken Kevin must be.

When Sunwoo left, Heiji's world was turned upside down. Although the situations differed, there was no contact and he left suddenly, he still wasn't physically there - and it hurt her more than anything in the world that he was so out of reach.

"Is he coming today?" Heiji asks gently, offering the girl her hand.

"Yeah," she nods lazily. "I'm sorry for not telling you guys sooner."

"Don't be silly," Heiji reassures her as Haknyeon and Sungyoon nod in agreement. "It's a big step, Lia, you had more to think about than us."

"I don't want to leave," she says truthfully, holding back tears. "I'll miss so much."

"It's not forever," it was Haknyeons turn to reassure her. "Besides, I've always wanted to visit Canada. It'll work out just fine."

Lia nods, giving the boy a smile as the table is interrupted by a presence sitting at the table.

"Hey," Hyunjae announces awkwardly, everyone greeting him except Heiji who bowed her head lightly and avoided eye contact. "Where is Kevin?"

"Nice one Hyunjae," Haknyeon says sassily, rolling his eyes as everyone laughs. "Way to ruin the mood."

"I'm great at that apparently," he jokes, looking at Lia who gave him a sad smile, and he knew something was wrong - although he needn't question it. "So, what are we all drinking?"

The table tried everything in their power to take Lia's mind off things, but truthfully the longer she sat with them - the more upset she felt.

In a sense, it was bittersweet. She enjoyed their company so much that she knew when the day came where this would no longer be a part of her routine, she would be devastated.

She looked at everyone individually, admiring everyone's smiles and laughter as her heart clenched in her chest. The alcohol wasn't helping.

"Hi," the table hears a voice behind them, everyone's eyes meeting Kevin's. "Sorry I'm late."

The boy awkwardly sat beside Lia, who everyone noticed was looking at him with hopeful eyes. As he avoided her gaze, her eyes diverted to the table.

"Heiji," Kevin says almost too bluntly. "Sunwoo's here."

The boy points to the red haired boy who was approaching the cafe doors, his eyes searching for the girl in the crowd of people sitting.

The girl grins, waving him over as he strolls over to the table. "Hi, what are you doing here?"

"I just thought I'd pop by," he smiles, looking around the table. "I knew where to find you."

"Of course you did, lover boy," Haknyeon smiles as he pats the seat next to him. "Come have a drink, we've got so much to talk about."

"You better shut up," Heiji warns the boy with a small smile on her face.

"Should I be worried?" Sunwoo asks, taking off his coat before sitting down beside the boy who wrapped his arm around the boys shoulders.

"What do you drink?" Haknyeon asks.

Heiji's eyes wander around the table, watching as everyone looked between her and Sunwoo, smiling approvingly. All except for Hyunjae.

The boy shifted awkwardly in his seat, staring off in to the corner of the cafe as the two chatted beside him. Sunwoo was glad of Haknyeons company, the boy was keeping his mind off of Hyunjae sitting so close to him.

He had so much to say to the boy, but for Heiji's sake and the fact that he was actually sitting with her group of friends - he kept his mouth shut.

"Heiji," Haknyeon says as the girl turns her head to see her drunken best friend and boyfriend. "A soccer player, really?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" Sunwoo hits the boys arm playfully as Haknyeon pulled a disgusted face.

Heiji giggles looking at the two boys getting on so well, playing along with his joke. "I guess you can't help who you love."

"Disgusting," Haknyeon says his usual joke before turning to Sunwoo. "And you want to play professionally?"

"No," he shakes his head, taking another sip from his drink as he throws a smile at his girlfriend. "It's just a hobby. I wouldn't make it here anyway."

"I guess," the boy shrugs, following suit and taking a sip of his own drink. "You rarely hear of it, unless you move abroad."

Haknyeon didn't intend for his words to be heard so loudly around the table, nor for them to trigger any emotions.

But as a sudden silence fell upon everyone and their eyes turned to him, his own eyes widened before looking towards the couple. "I'm sorry, guys. I didn't mea-"

"It's fine," Kevin insists as Lia looked down at the table with the same expression she had been wearing all night, and Kevin's heart broke. "I have something to say, to everyone."

Hyunjaes gaze averted from Sungyoon to Kevin, as did everyone else's as he took a deep breath. His hand reached under the table as he turned to face Lia with his eyes squeezed closed.

"I love you," he says slowly, as Lia didn't know where to look. "And I'm sorry for being such an idiot."

"That wasn't to everyone though," Haknyeon points out as Heiji stifles a laugh before slapping his arm, nodding at Kevin to continue.

"The thought of not being with you is hurting me so much that I couldn't express my feelings the right way," he admits. "I've barely had enough time with you, and it'll be taken from me so soon."

"Kevin, I-" Lia tries to speak, although she is quickly cut off.

"But you're young, right?" He laughs softly, squeezing her hands. "I'll never be the one to stop you from living how you want to."

Lia nods slowly, a wave of relief rushed over her as she felt reassured by the boys words.

"But I'm young too," he announces, his words truthfully shocking everyone as they didn't know what to anticipate next. "And part of being young is exploring the world or wherever you get the opportunity to, and it's better with someone by your side, right?"

Lias eyes light up as everyone around the table stifles their gasps. Heiji's heart melted at the sight before her.

"I have family in Canada too," he speaks slowly, as Lia almost jumps out of her seat with the widest grin on her pretty face. "And I'm sure Jinsoul and Heiji can survive a year without me at uni, as can everyone else."

"You don't have t-"

"But I want to," he reassures the girl, the two staring at each other as though they were the only ones in the room. "And don't argue with me. I already have a place for us to stay."

The table smiled at the sight before them, and Heiji hadn't realised Sunwoo's hand had reached under the table to grab hers as he smiled at the pair before him.

"What do you say?" Kevin tilts his head, watching as Lia's face scrunched up and tears fell down her cheeks.

"I'd love nothing more," she says between sniffles as everyone at the table begins to clap, not caring about the scene they were causing in the restaurant.

"You almost made me cry," Haknyeon announces as the two pull each other in for a hug, everyone laughing at him.

"I'll miss you both," Heiji nods, wiping the tear that had rolled down her right cheek as Sunwoo reached to wipe the tear that fell down her left.

Sunwoo squeezes her hand, looking at her with love in his eyes. He was touched by what he saw, he was truthfully a sucker for romance.

Heiji threw the boy a smile before taking a minute to take in a deep breath and look at her surroundings. It was probably the last time she would see everyone here together, like this.

As for everything was now changing.
