Chapter 6

-Jason Pov-

I walk out of the elevator, and down to the ballroom to stay for the night, a feeling of anger bubbling up inside of me. I had no idea why Ozpin had me meet those three people, but for some reason they all ticked me off for some reason. Hercules had been a pervert and a showboat, and I really wanted to beat him senseless. Emma had struck me as one of those people who were just too kind and positive, and then Zion. I didn't hate her, in fact she seemed somewhat familiar to me. Her I was neutral on, but meeting Emma and Hercules had put me in a bit of a bad mood.

Sighing, I then made it to the ballroom, and was waved over by Yang and Ruby, and then I smiled slightly when I saw them and made my way over. " We didn't see you when Ozpin was giving his speech in the auditorium," says Ruby, and then I explained to her how Ozpin had me meet some people, and I try to keep calm, not wanting to take my anger out on her. She nods, and then she goes back to explaining to Yang and me how her day went.

" And then Weiss started yelling at me, and I just wanted it to stop," says Ruby, looking down sadly. Yang sighs and rubs her hair, and then Ruby looks up again. " And then Jason starting fighting Weiss, and I wanted to tell them that this wasn't helping, and I wanted us all to just be friends." I chuckle when she says this, and then Yang talks with her for a few moments, confirming that it had been an actual fight instead of a verbal argument. Yang sighs when Ruby confirms this, and then Yang looks over at me.

" I can't stand her," I tell her, and then Yang sighs. It was something about her that just got under my skin, and makes me want to send her flying. Ruby then goes back to writing a letter to her friends back at Signal, saying she didn't get to bring all of her friends with her, and I sigh a little in sympathy, thinking of how Kitty had to wait another year before she got to come to Beacon. " I'm sorry you had to leave your friends Ruby," I say sympathetically, and then Ruby nods and smiles softly.

" Well, Kitty is a bit more than a friend to you," says Yang, and then I roll my eyes when she mentions this, and then Ruby sighs, and goes back to talking about how with Weiss and Jaune, she made a friend and a negative friend, and how that essentially puts her back to having zero friends. " There's no such thing as a negative friend," says Yang, and then we hear footsteps, and look over to see a girl walking over to us, waving as she does, and then Ruby looks up at her.

The girl has right orange or red hair, and wears goggles in her hair, and then she smiles when she makes her way over to us. " I overheard the three of you talking a little bit," she says, mainly looking at Ruby. " If you want, you can count me as a positive friend!" Ruby and Yang smile and then she sits down next to Ruby. " Oh, my name is Karen Atarka." Ruby smiles, and then one by one we introduce ourselves to her, but Karen mostly stays focused on Ruby as the two of them talk.

Yang and I watch them talk for a little bit, and then tune out for a little as they talk happily about video games, one that neither Yang or I play, and then we look back up. Still, a small smile is on my face when I realize Ruby has made a friend, and then Yang leans into whisper in my ear. " I ship it," she says, with a chuckle in her voice, and then I roll my eyes and then look down to see Karen and Ruby playing Mario Kart on Karen's Nintendo Switch, and laughing happily.

"Of course you do," I point out. " You ship me and Ruby with practically anyone who talks to us for more than a second," I tell her, watching Ruby and Karen hug after a good race, and then even trading food with each other, which makes me think since Ruby hardly ever shares her cookies with anyone. " And besides, love is a weakness."

Yang rolls her eyes when I say this, and then looks out the window. " Whatever hot topic," she says, and then it's my turn to roll my eyes. I have no idea when she came up with that nickname for me, and it ticks me off whenever she says that. Ruby and Karen begin to giggle happily at the results of one of their races, and then I hear another set of footsteps, and then I look up to see Weiss walking towards us with an angry glare on her face. " She's in a bad mood," observes Yang.

" Yeah, well good so am I," I tell her, smirking when I see Weiss. Karen and Ruby pause their game, and then look up to see Weiss, and then Ruby hides behind Karen, who smiles and gives Ruby a small hug before standing up and looking at Weiss with curiosity in her eyes, and then we all stand up to look at Weiss.

" Do you have any idea what time it is," Weiss asks angrily. " People are trying to sleep." Ruby keeps hiding behind Karen, who seems to be irritated now, and then I just start to walk to Weiss while Yang steps between us, trying to keep us apart.

" And yet you're the loudest of all of us Weiss," I tell her, and she glares angrily at me, the type of glare that would kill people if looks could do that sort of thing.

" How'd you even make it into Beacon," she asks me angrily. " You're rude, stupid, angry all the time and a danger to everyone around you. You don't belong here."

" And you're spoiled, stuck-up, pretentious, a little brat, and a girl who's still here with Daddy's credit card," I tell her, and then Yang and Karen both snicker at my joke, while Ruby finally steps out from behind Karen and looks at all of us. She clears her throat in a small voice, and we all look over to her.

" W-Weiss is right. People are trying to sleep," says Ruby. Weiss rolls her eyes at this, and asks her something. " I've always been on your side," Ruby says. All of us stand around for a little bit, and then Weiss sighs in more irritation, and then somehow all of us end up in an argument, threatening to break out into a fight. Yang's eyes turn red, and then Karen bursts into flames using her Semblance, and then Weiss summons a series of glyphs behind her.

" Wanna go ice queen," asks Karen angrily as the flames get hotter and hotter. To her credit, Weiss doesn't back down, and then Yang and I all step up, ready to fight someone and then the candle is blown out by someone, and the only source of light in the room is Karen. We use it to find our way back to our spots, and then Karen calms down, and looks over at Ruby. " R-ruby? I forgot my teddy bear back at home and I can't sleep without it," says Karen. " Do you mind staying close to me for the night?" Ruby smiles, and shakes her head, saying it's okay as long as she gets to have her teddy bear.

Karen nods, and then Ruby fishes around and pulls out an Elmo stuffed animal and holds it up happily, and then Yang smiles and pulls out her own Elmo. Karen smiles at this when she sees the Elmo's, and then Ruby sighs a little sadly. " It was the last thing that our mom gave to us. She went on her mission, and gave these to us," explains Ruby. " Yang and I keep ours close to us at all times because of that."

As Ruby and Yang smile at their Elmo, a cold feeling goes through my chest. The only thing I can think is about what Summer had told me before she left for her mission. " Be good when I'm gone, and I'll bring you one when I come back," she had said, before leaving.

My breathing speeds up a little bit when I remember Summer saying that before leaving. For some reason, I keep thinking about how much I wanted an Elmo when I was young. Growling a little, I walk off and then Yang, Ruby and Karen look over at me, wondering where I'm going. Ruby shrugs innocently as she goes back to holding Elmo, and then Yang sighs, knowing why I'm leaving.

I make it outside, and then sit down in the fountain. A few moments later, Yang sits down next to me. " I couldn't get to sleep, and then Ruby and Karen are asleep and I didn't wanna wake them up," says Yang, and then I nod. She sighs. " You know Summer still loved me and you right," she asks, and then I shake my head.

" She loved you and Ruby," I tell her. Yang sighs when I say this, since she doesn't think that's true. " And she never saw me as her son, I was just her responsibility. Like when you find a stray dog and bring it home with you. That's what I was to her."

" She never said that," says Yang, a little irritated.

" She never had to," I remind her, and then I stood up. " I mean, Ruby was her favorite, and she was always going to be since Ruby was her daughter. And then you, since you didn't remind her too much of Raven, and then there was me. I was too much like a mother I had never met for her taste."

" Jason, that's not true. She did her best to love us each and every day. She was like super mom." I roll my eyes when she says this, and turn to her.

" The last thing she told me was to be good when she was gone. Like, fucking shit. The last mission she goes on before dying, and she gives you and Ruby an Elmo, and tells me if I'm good I can have one." Yang sighs when I say this, and then looks around.

We sit in silence, and then a bullhead lands, and I look over at it confused. " I know I'm not going to be able to change your mind about it, I tried for years. So, I thought I might call someone who might be able to change your mind, or at the very least make you feel a little better. Come on." I nod, and then follow her to the bullhead. A few moments later, the door opens and then Kitty steps out and my eyes widen when I see her. She waves and smiles and then I see she has a visitor's pass.

I turn to thank Yang, and then I notice she already left, and I turn back to see Kitty. She walks over, and hugs me. She's a little taller than me, so she lets her chin sit on my head comfortably, and holds me close. I wrap my arms around her, and then she smiles. The two of us stay holding each other tightly. " It's gonna be okay Jason," she says, and then I feel myself getting choked up and I hold her tight, and then she smiles and holds back just as tight. " It's gonna be okay," she says.
