Chapter 1
-Emma Pov-
As I work, I hum to myself. It's an old lullaby that my mother used to sing to me when I was a child, and in turn a song her mother had sung to her. When I was growing up, my mother had told me that in time, I would sing this to my children. The song was soft, and gentle, the lyrics being about how the day had come and gone, and starting it again tomorrow. As always, singing it makes me feel closer to my mother, and then I look down from the stage to the room of children listening to me as I sing, and my smile grows even bigger.
I finish the song eventually, and then the room breaks into cheers and clapping, which warms my heart. Most of the people in this room are children, all of them faunas, and all of them from poor families and parts of town. For a lot of them, the time they spend in this room, in this building is the only time all of them are safe, and for many of them this is going to be the only time in a day that they get to eat. The fact that I manage to bring any joy and happiness to their life is enough to make me smile.
" Alright, everyone. We're going to hand out lunch right now," says Steph, and then I look over to see the woman who runs this bookstore. As always, she has a smile on her face, and then I notice some bags under her eyes, probably exhausted from how much it takes to keep this place afloat. " Everyone please be sure to thank Miss Waters for coming down to sing for all of you," she says, gesturing to me with a smile.
The children run one by one to thank me, and then I smile and promise them all one by one that I'm going to be here tomorrow to sing for them again, and then I watch each and everyone of the children say hello to me, and break into a happy smile. I know each of them by name, and so all of them consider me a friend, and some of them even refer to me as their older sister. It makes me so happy to hear, and know that each of them is thankful that I come here. I've been able to make a difference to each or them, and that makes me happy.
Once all of them go to eat, Steph makes her way over to me, and then gives a small smile. " Thank you for coming down today Emma," she says. " It means a lot to the kids, and to all of the staff here. We're sorry we don't have more to give you than a free meal." I smile kindly when I say this, and then look at here. She chuckles a little bit. The two of us have had this conversation before, and she knows exactly what I'm going to say by this point.
" The only payment I need from you is the chance to see the smiles on these kid's faces," I tell her, and then she nods, with a chuckle. I can tell that she had known exactly what was coming. She nods when I say this, and then says she's going to come back in a little bit with my lunch. As always, I try to tell her she doesn't need to do that for me, but just like she can't talk me into accepting payment, I can't talk her out of giving me a lunch.
A few moments later, Steph comes back over with a salad for me, and then smiles. She only had to be told on my first day here that I was a vegetarian, and then she had memorized, and made sure to always have a salad set out for me, or some other meal that I could eat. I know it isn't much, and it's easy to do, but it makes me happy to know Steph took even a little bit of time to memorize that detail about me, and in turn I treat her to her favorite meals at least once a week.
" Thanks for coming all this time," says Steph with a smile, but I can tell from the tone in her voice that something is wrong, and so I tilt my head and look at her in confusion, urging her to explain why she sounds so sad all of a sudden. " This is going to be the last meeting for the bookstore. We need to close it down," she says, and then my mouth widens in confusion, and shock. She sighs again, and then looks over at the children. " I don't want to have this conversation in front of the children," she says. " Come to my office with me."
I nod, and then follow her into her office, still dumbfounded and not knowing what to say. If this place is shutting down, then so many of these children are going to be out of options for their future. When the two of us make it into the office, Steph sits down, and then starts to look around for something, and then looks up at me. " The city told me to shut this down. The mayor is biased against faunas. All of the children who come here are faunas, and so he doesn't want people to think it's some sort of White Fang recruitment opportunity.
I sigh when she says this. All my life has been colored by some discrimination and prejudice against faunas like myself. Suddenly, my dove wings feel heavier than normal, the burden of being a faunas as well as their own weight. My mom always had used to tell me to make it as a faunas you had to work twice as hard, and be twice as good as normal people needed to be.
Even as my mind races, trying to think of some sort of way to keep this place open for the children, I know that anything I say could probably end up being used to further the mayor's argument about faunas, and the White Fang. And so, I sigh and then Steph nods as she sees the defeat set into my eyes.
" I want you to have this," she says, handing me a check. I take it, and then look at it, and then realize the check is what I would have earned if I had accepted payments for all the times I worked here with the store. I look at her, and then realize she's not going to let me refuse it this time, and so I pocket it, and then the two of us talk for a little bit. " Say hello to your mother for me," she says, and then she closes and locks the store behind her, taking one final look at it.
After I walk out of the store, I make my way down to the water to watch the ships come in and out, and then wonder if one of them is my father's boat. As I think this, I notice someone has made their way down to the water with me, and then I look up to see a man with white hair, black glasses and a green scarf. " Emma right," he asks, and then I look at him, wondering how he knows that.
" My name is Ozpin. I'm the Headmaster of one of the academies," he explains, and then I nod. He probably got my file from Signal Academy. " I wanted to say you have an exceptional service record, and are an outstanding young woman. I'm here to offer you a place at Beacon Academy." When he says this, he then hands me down a paper, which I would need to sign that confirms my entrance into Beacon, and then I look at it.
" If I come with you, who will take care of the children that relied on me for help," I ask, and I hand the papers back to him. Even though I want to become a huntress, I still need to take care of those children before I can even start to worry about anything else. However, Ozpin chuckles and then hands the papers back to me.
" Miss Waters, I'd do just about anything to have you at Beacon Academy. You would be an incredible student. You have my word that if you come with me, these children will be well taken care of and loved," he says. I nod when he says this, and then I reach out and offer my hand for a shake, which he accepts. " Welcome to Beacon Academy Emma."

I stand in the locker room, and then begin to do my stretches for the morning. As I do, I take the time to look myself in the mirror, and then I smile at my reflection, being happy with what I see. I've gained more bulk and muscle, and then the whitening the dentists recommended have made my teeth even whiter, and my smile even brighter. When I see this, I then stand up and then get dressed in my armor, turning back to the mirror to strike a few poses and then blow a few kisses. Once I finish getting dressed for the day, I go on and then grab my war-hammer and sling it over my arm, and begin to walk down the halls of the gym into the arena.
My team walks near me, giving me advice for the fight, and one of them keeps fixing my hair or armor, making sure everything is perfect for the cameras. I walk down with them, and then I make it outside, the light being warm and gentle, and then I smile when I see the crowd of people rise and begin to cheer my name. Due to the design of the arena, the sound echoes, and is like music to my eyes, in my mind being the best sound in the world. As I walk in and take my place, I blow kisses to the ground, which fangirls all take, and they shower me with gifts, chocolates, flowers and even their panties.
As I catch everything and have my manager set it aside for later, I look around the crowd, and then smile when I see my friends and family members in the premium seats I give them, and then I smirk when I see the hoard of fangirls I've managed to amass in my time as a world class fighter. Still, my eyes keep scanning the crowd as I keep looking for someone. In the end, a small sigh escapes me when I look at the reserved seats, and notice one of them is empty like always. I should be used to this: She never comes. This fight wouldn't have been any different.
Shaking those thoughts from my mind, I look over to see my opponent walk into the arena, some buff guy with a big sword. The announcer does his best to hype up the fight, but the mood in the crowd has changed. All of them know I'm going to win, and are doing their best to boo the opponent, and all of them are seemingly bored with any attempt to make this fight sound more interesting than it really is. Eventually, the announcer realizes he's not going to be able to hype up the crowd, and so he simply lets the fight start.
He rushes for me, and then as expected, I quickly manage to defeat him. The crowd cheers loudly when I do, and then I gesture for them to clear louder, as I strike poses for the camera, and blow kisses into the crowd. Once the noise dies down, an interviewer comes to me, and begins to ask the run of the mill questions that come with every fight, and then the two of us finish the interview, and I make my way back down to the locker room to change.
As I do, I notice that a man with a black suit and gray hair is here. I know right away that this is Headmaster Ozpin of Beacon Academy. " Can I help you with something," I ask eventually, and then he just keeps looking at me, and then I roll my eyes. My friend Pyrrha had warned me that Ozpin could be unhelpful from time to time, and often refused to give a straight answer to her questions.
" I watched that fight. You beat your opponent in under a minute. I believe that's a new record for you," he mentions, and I wonder if he's here for something important, or just to make small talk, and yet I still smirk when he praises me. " Tell me, have you ever wanted something more than this?"
" No," I tell him with a confused, but still cocky smirk. " I have everything I need, trust me. I make more money in a day than your teachers do in a year I'd wager, and then I have everything I could ever need," I tell him, and then he nods.
" Do you ever feel like you could be using your gifts and potential to do more than these party tricks and theatrics," he asks, and then I look over at him in confusion, wondering what he's talking about. " It just seems like you have the potential to do so much more with your life than any of this. Tell me, are you truly happy like this? Or are you missing something, someone?"
I don't know what to say when he asks this, and my mind goes to Coco right away when he mentions missing someone, and then Ozpin chuckles a little. " I can't promise you anything. But if you were to come to Beacon Academy with me, then I think I could give you a chance to have your special someone," he offers, reaching out his hand. Thinking about it for a moment, I then shake his hand, as he welcomes me to Beacon Academy.

I smirk when I look down from my spot in the vents. Looking down at the party, I look around and see all the men and women in the room, all of them armed, all of them dangerous, and all of them criminals. Each and every one of them probably has a rap sheet longer than most arms were, and then I realize how many of them are in my bingo book. I think to myself how many of these names I could cross off with just one go. But then I remind myself I was only paid to take out one name in particular: Jacques Schnee.
As he walks into the room, I see him with his wife, Willow with a split lip and a black eye, though her injuries are hidden under layers of make-up and concealer. I'm probably the only one in the room other than Willow and Jacques who know about the abuse, and the injuries. As I watch Jacques walk around the room, I think to myself about what I'm going to do to kill him.
I think about that, and then manage a dry smile when I realize that there are people in the world who only hesitate to make a kill because they don't know how to kill someone, or want to avoid killing, or at the very least wanna do it in the most human way possible. Me? The only time I hesitate when it comes to making a kill is deciding which of the many ways I can kill someone that I want to use.
Adjusting my mask one final time, I look down at Jacques, and then there's a puff of smoke in the vent, as I appear behind him. People look at me in confusion, and then I hold onto Jacques, and then teleport off into another room where it's just the two of us. He looks at me, still in morning confusion and arrogance then fear. " Do you have any idea who I am," he asks with a smirk in his voice, and his finger hovers over a button which could presumably call down the entire security system of the mansion.
" I know exactly who you are," I tell him simply. His eyes widen with fear as I pull out my katana. I suppose this must be new for him. Most men and women in the world would do anything for him for a variety of reasons, his name being first and foremost. I must be one of, if not the first people in the world to know who he is, what his power is and just not care about it at all.
He begins to plead with me, and say he'd do anything to stay alive, but I still don't care, and then I'm about to bring my katana down and sever his throat. Before I can however, a shotgun blast knocks my sword out of my hand. I look over to see the source of the blast, and then I see a man with black hair, a sword with a shotgun feature, and red eyes. My eyes widen a little bit when I realize that this is Qrow Branwen, one of the names in the bingo book.
Before I can puff off in a cloud of smoke, he's on me, fighting with amazing skill and precision. It's all I can do to keep up, and even then I find myself on the losing end of the battle. Quickly, my sword is knocked away from me, and then Qrow pins me to the ground. "Do it then," I challenge him, and then he smirks and aims the shotgun for my head. He pulls the trigger, but it clicks, showing he's out of ammo.
" I'm not here to kill you," he says. " I came here to offer you a choice," he says, getting off me and then helping me up. " With your skills, Ozpin thinks you would be a good fit for Beacon Academy. I could guarantee you a place there. Or, you would also be a good fit for a prison."
He sees me think of it for a few moments, and then I reach out my hand, and then he accepts. " Welcome to Beacon Zion Helsing."

I get out of the water of the pool, and then wince a little bit when I feel the wound on my back start to open up again. I try to look back and see the wound, but I don't manage to see how much it has opened, all I see is the blood flowing down my back. " Damn it," I muttered to myself, and then I hear a soft chuckle, and then I look over to see Kitty.
" Let me help you with that," she offers, and then I roll my eyes with a small smile. She struts over to me, and then begins to clean the wound the best she can. " One day you're going to have to tell me how you get all these wounds," she says, concerned. I nod a little, and then she sighs, knowing that the one day isn't going to be today. " Your dad was calling when you were swimming."
Rolling my eyes at this, she hands me my scroll, and then I check it to see I have six missed calls from dad, and then one from Yang. " Want me to head back with you," offers Kitty. " You probably need to get back, or your dad is gonna come here to drag you back to the house. He likes me, so maybe if I go back with you he'll know that at least you were in good company."
Nodding, she stands up, and then offers me her hand, which I take. The two of us walk over my motorcycle, and then I hop on and she gets on with me. Going at exactly the speed limit, she wraps her arms around my waist, and then the two of us race down, and then arrive in front of the house. Hand in hand, she walks with me, and then we knock on the door.
" Where the hell have you been," he asks when the door flies open, and then Tai stands there, glaring at you. His eyes soften a little bit when he sees Kitty, but you can tell he's still angry. " Kitty. It's nice to see you again. But, right now I think you should go." Kitty lingers for a moment longer just to make sure I'm okay, but Tai has finally lost it. " Go!"
She scurries off, and then Tai grabs your collar and tries to drag me into the house. Instead of letting myself be dragged, I grab his hand, and then pry it off me " Don't yell at her," I tell him. " And don't put your hands on me." He scoffs, and then walks into the house.
I walk in after him, and then listen, or at least pretend to him yelling at me for something or other, and then he sighs. " I love you kid, but you have to know this isn't what your mother would want," he says at the end, and then I roll my eyes. I can feel myself getting angry and both of my eyes turning red.
" Which mother? Raven or Summer," I ask, and then I can see him tensing, also getting angry. For years, he's tried to insist to me and Yang that the only mother we ever had was Summer. Tai doesn't say anything, and then I watch as he storms off, and then he goes to his room, and I can hear the door slam slut. Smirking, I realize just how angry I am, and then I get on my motorcycle, and then drive off somewhere that I always go to blow off steam.
Walking into the club, the people and regulars smirk when they see me, and then smile when they realize what it means. Stepping into an elevator, I press the buttons for the lowest level, and then find myself in a room with a large crowd of people. All of them are watching a fight in a cage, and then I walk over, pushing and shoving my way to watch a big guy beat the stuffing out of someone else.
" The big guy is Creed," explains someone to you. " He's the best fighter we've ever seen."
" Like hell," you mutter, pushing past them and walking into the cage with Creed. He smirks when he sees you, and the two of you start to fight each other, nothing like the tournament fights the rest of the world has, but instead it's a brutal fight with no rules. Still, I find yourself easily winning. " What's your Semblance," I ask when I have him pinned to the metal of the cage.
Creed smirks, and then touches the metal of the cage. His skin is slowly covered in the same metal, and then he punches me, sending me flying. " What's yours," he asks, sounding so certain he's won. Rising to my feet, I touch the cage, and use my Semblance to copy his, coating myself in steel. " What the?! That's my Semblance."
" Figure it out when you wake up," I tell him, beating him to a pulp, and kicking in his ribs. As I walk out of the club, I see Ozpin, and then he smiles softly when he sees me. " What do you want," I ask.
" I came to talk to you about coming to Beacon," he says simply, offering a hand. I think about it for a long moment, and then nod and accept his offer for a handshake, smiling happily for once in a while.
( let me know what you thought, who's your favorite and what you wanna see. This is something I wanna try, just my oc's in the story)
