~The Goblet of Fire~
Percy's P.O.V
Over the next few weeks, Hazel, Frank, Piper and Jason had arrived at Hogwarts. Hermione had continued to be friends with us, while Ron and Harry... uh... let's just say didn't befriend us. But I don't mind what they think of me, as long as they're not rude to my friends. Far too quickly a rather... well, eventful day arrived.
"Bro, stop." I sent an annoyed, although slightly amused look at Jason, who had his tench inch, Stone pine wand out and was discreetly aiming it at me. Well actually more at my food. His wand had lightning bolts decorating the wood, and a core of a Thunderbird feather. As I reached for my goblet of blue coke, a blast of wind hit it, sending it sliding out of my hand's reach. I sighed and gave Jason a, 'Seriously, bro' look. The others let out muffled laughter and I rolled my eyes in mock anger. As I reached for my plate instead, the same thing happened and it slid out of reach. "Oh come on." I groaned. I leaned over the table further in order to reach it, but a gust of wind flew out of the blonde's wand and pushed it further away. Snickering erupted all around me as I slumped down in defeat.
"All right, all right. That's enough." Piper interfered between her laughter. Jason pouted as she brought out her own wand, which was made of Jacaranda wood, was nine inches, and had the core of a white dove's feather. She waved it and both my plate and goblet came back to me.
"Thanks, Piper!" I grinned at her, finally digging into my food. I was only vaguely listening to the others conversation, too involved in eating. Something about... an essay? Pfft I have no idea what they're on about. When everyone had finished, Dumbledore stood up, smiling at the sea of students turning to look at him.
"Bring in the casket please, Mr Filch." The entire hall went deathly silent at this, every single student watching intently. Filch, who had been skulking in the shadows, strode towards him, an ancient but jewel encrusted chest in his arms. Filch placed it on the table in front of him, before retreating again. An excited chatter started up, and I looked around in confusion.
What's going on?
"There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways... their magical prowess-their daring-their powers of deductions-and, of course, their ability to cope with danger." I looked at the others, feeling excitement rise within me. The others looked as if they felt the same.
"Since we only have two schools competing this year, the tasks will-unfortunately-be the same as the previous Triwizard Tournament, with a few twists of course." The hall was dead silent.
"As you know, normally there will be three champions from different schools, but again, this year will be different. There will be three champions, but two will be from Hogwarts, and one from Hecate's school of Magic. They will be marked on how well they perform each of the Tournament tasks and the champion with the highest total after task three will win the Triwizard Cup. The champions will be chosen my an impartial selector... the Goblet of Fire." Dumbledore took out his wand and tapped the casket three times. The lid slowly opened with a creak and Dumbledore produced from it a plain, ordinary wooden goblet. Oh, except for the blue-white fire filling it to the brim. Dumbledore closed the casket and lifted the goblet high for all to see.
"Anybody wishing to submit themselves as champion must write their name and school clearly upon a slip of parchment, and drop it into the Goblet. Aspiring champions have twenty four hours in which to put their names forward. Tomorrow night, Halloween, the Goblet will return the names of the three it has judged most worthy to represent their schools. The Goblet will be placed in the Entrance Hall tonight, where it will be freely accessible to all those wishing to compete. To ensure that no underage student yields to temptation, I will be drawing an Age Line around the Goblet of Fire once it has been placed in the Entrance Hall. Nobody under the age of seventeen will be able to cross the line." He paused. "Except the students from Hecate's school of Magic. All of them will be able to enter." I could almost feel Harry's glare burning a hole in my back.
"Finally, I wish to impress upon any of you wishing to compete that this Tournament is not to be entered into lightly. Once a champion has been selected by the Goblet of Fire, he or she is obligated to see the Tournament through to the end. The placing of your name in the Goblet constitutes a binding, magical contract. There can be no change of heart once you drop your name into the Goblet. Now, I think it is time for bed. Goodnight, everyone." As soon as he finished, the hall filled with loud talk of the Tournament.
"Who's going to enter?" Frank asked us.
"I will." I shrugged.
"Me too. It sounds... interesting to say the least." Annabeth agreed, resting her head on my shoulder. My arm was around her waist.
"Count me in." Piper smiled.
"Me too." Jason nodded too.
"Danger? Magic? Death?" Leo laughed. "Count me in."
"I guess I'm in too." Frank piped in.
"Well... I guess it could be fun." Hazel smiled shyly.
"I'm in." Nico shrugged, before turning to Thalia with a wicked grin when she didn't speak. "Are you going to, cousin? You're not... scared? Are you?" Thalia bristled and glared at him.
"Of course I'm not." She hissed. "I'm in." I looked to Hermione with a smile.
"What about you, 'Mione?" I asked. She tilted her head, contemplating it.
"All right, if you're all doing it too." She finally conceded.
"Great!" I grinned. She smiled back, before glancing behind her at Harry's loud voice. I looked as well, to see Harry bragging to Ron and Neville.
"Obviously I'm going to be picked again." He boasted. "I mean, I am the chosen one, after all." Hermione rolled her eyes and turned back to us.
"Are you okay?" I mouthed to her. She gave me a warm smile and nod in return. We both tuned back into the others conversation, which was about the Triwizard Tournament. We all walked out of the hall and towards the common room.
"When will we put our names in the cup?" Hermione asked. "Most people do it after everyone has gone to bed or the next morning."
"Let's do it tomorrow. I need my beauty sleep." Nico sighed dramatically, before stopping and smirking. "Actually I don't. I'm not Thalia." I snickered, others stifling their laughter at Thalia's angry expression.
"Burn!" Leo cackled.
"Why you little-" Thalia lunged at Nico, but I caught her wrist and held her back.
"Hey, hey, hey. Calm down you guys. No need for fighting." I said, trying to be serious but failing miserably. Thalia growled something beneath her breath, before stalking off. Jason chuckled.
"I'll go after her." He said, following her after saying goodnight to Piper. After our goodnights, we all parted ways and left for our separate rooms. Midnight was on his perch, and hooted at me when I stepped through the door.
"What?" I asked him. He hooted again and I noticed a piece of parchment tied to his leg. I approached him and petted him, reading the letter.
Dear Perseus
Camp has been... eventful to say the least, since you have last been here. The monster attacks have been more often and consistent than before, often having surprisingly larger numbers of monsters within each attack. We have now had to set a border patrol every morning, lunch and evening. Camp Jupiter is faring no better. Monsters have been attacking too. So far they have managed to repel each attack, but before long they will get stronger. I know it. There have also been reported sightings of Giants. I do not know whether or not these are in fact true, but if they are, we have to be prepared for the worse. We are currently building up our defenses in case.
I hope you are having better luck in your quest than we are and that your studies are going well. I also hope that you are not getting into too much trouble. Remember the importance of making allies and keeping our secrets hidden. With that said, please send my regards to the others.
Yours sincerely, Chiron
I smiled at that, stroking Midnight's head. He cooed expectantly and I raised an eyebrow at him.
"What?" He hooted again. I tilted my head questioningly before realising what he wanted. "Oh right. Ugh fine." I turned away, digging through my stuff. "Aha!" I brought out my last chocolate frog, tossing it to Midnight who greedily grabbed it and devoured it viciously. "It's bad enough I have a donut loving pegasus. Now a chocolate frog loving owl? Ugh." I groaned, shaking my head. I changed into my pyjamas and brushed my teeth. Once I had one everything I needed to, I got into bed and switched the light off. "Goodnight, Midnight." I said, closing my eyes. I heard a soft hoot in reply. It took no time at all for me to fall asleep.
. . .
When I walked into the common room the next morning, I found Annabeth writing on a scroll of parchment.
"Hey Wise girl." I greeted her as I approached her. She smiled and turned to look at me, before her smile dropped.
"Are you okay?" She asked worriedly. I knew she was talking about the bags under my eyes, but I just let out a strained laugh.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I assured her. She frowned, standing up.
"Are you sure? You know I don't like secrets between us." I smiled at her.
"Don't worry about it, Annie. Just dreams again." I reassured her. She tilted her head at me.
"Dreams, nightmares or flashbacks?" She asked softly. I didn't answer and my silence gave her an answer. "They're happening a lot now..." She sighed worriedly. I grinned lopsidedly at her.
"Hey, it'll be all right. Don't worry about me, I can take care of myself." She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly, burying her head in my chest. I hugged her back, resting my chin on her head.
"But I do worry about you." Her words were muffled by my shirt. I opened my mouth to respond, but a new voice interupted me.
"Hey, there you two are." Nico said, "We're going to put our names in the Goblet of Fire now. You coming?" He asked. I grinned at him.
"You bet." I borrowed (more like stole...) a piece of parchment from Annabeth and wrote my details on it, Annabeth doing the same. We walked towards the hall and found the others easily, who were standing and watching other people. Harry was striding around inside the age line, waving his piece of parchment around like the king of the world. He was boasting to the others, building up excitement every time he walked near the Goblet. I rolled my eyes and stepped over the line, approaching the Goblet. I dropped the parchment into it and it burst into flames before disappearing. I suddenly became aware of the cheering around us following my actions. I felt my face flush as the students cheered for me. Harry whirled around, and when he saw me, his eyes narrowed and he glared at me as if I had stolen his food. I looked around and saw Annabeth copying my actions, followed by the others as well. I gave Hermione a comforting grin as she nervously put her name in the Goblet. She walked towards us again with a bright smile. Hazel and Piper gave her a hug and I knew it had taken quite a bit of courage to put her name in there. She smiled happily at us, her eyes shining. I was only barely aware of Ron and Harry glaring at her like she had betrayed them. I walked out of the age circle and into the hall, smiling some what awkwardly as people patted me on the back.
"Why were we cheered for?" I whispered to Annabeth.
"You're such a Seaweed Brain." She laughed. "If you haven't noticed, you're quite liked around here." I frowned in confusion.
"I am? But I haven't really done anything." I tilted my head and we all took a seat around the giant table. Annabeth laughed again.
"And besides, I'm sure Harry was taught at least a little lesson when you just brushed past him like that."
"Was that rude of me?" I asked, frowning worriedly. Annabeth rolled her eyes playfully.
"Sometimes you're too nice, Percy."
"I am?"
"You are." Piper piped in. (Get it? :D ...no? Okay ): Stupid ADHD...)
"I wonder when they're going to announce who's going to be participating." Nico mused.
"Probably later today. Maybe at dinner." Hermione answered.
"I wonder who's going to be chosen..."
Me: Hello-
Leo: It's me!
Me: Hey-
Percy: I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet!
Me: Hey, wait-
Jason: To go over-
Me: ENOUGH!
*Cricket sounds*
Me: Good. Now-
Nico: ...everything.
Me: Grrrrr. Anywho...
*Glares at them*
Me: I decided to make a time skip to bring in all of the others now, because if I had done it at the speed I was going, it would have taken forever. So... yeah. Also, another thing. I have decided to make the Champions Percy and Harry, but who should be the other Hogwarts champion be? I'll leave it to you to vote. It can be anyone, really. Hermione, Ron, Draco/Drake, etc. Okay, so I think that's all I have to report... Oh, just a random thing. I've made Percy a nice guy, and he doesn't realise how much people like him, because he's... well, a Seaweed Brain. I know Percy is actually really smart and people don't realise it, but he can be pretty dense when it comes to things like that. Aaaaaaaaaaand that's all I have to say. So bye for now-
Leo: HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE!
Percy: I MUST HAVE CALLED A THOUSAND TIIIIIIIIIIIIIMES!
Jason: TO TELL YOU I'M SORRY!
Nico: FOR EVERYTHING THAT I'VE DONE!
Draco: BUT WHEN I CALL YOU NEVER!
Frank: *sweats nervously* Erm... um... seem to be home...?
Me: Oh for Hades sake...
Hades: You called?
Me: Uhhhhhhh.... no?
