~Newcomers and Pyromaniacs~

Nico's P.O.V
The school week passed quickly and basically uneventful. Except for the time Thalia almost electrocuted Harry and Ron. Long story... actually it was a rather short story. They annoyed her and she was about to electrocute them, but Percy stopped her. Why not me? Because I was laughing too hard. Hermione too, surprisingly. And before we knew it, we were anticipating the arrival of Leo and Annabeth. More so Annabeth than Leo (Nobody tell him though). I knew that chaos would ensure the school once the pyromaniac arrived. Luckily since he had 'miraculously returned from the dead' (Notice my sarcasm. Notice it) with Calypso, he has stopped flirting with other girls, which is good. Because I doubt any girl in Hogwarts would want a scrawny Latino elf hitting on them.

Woah. Back to the point, Nico.

Thalia, Percy, Hermione and I sat at the Gryffindor table together, purposefully ignoring the glares sent at them from Harry and Ron. As per usual, Percy was almost drowning his flapjacks in syrup.

"Isn't that a bit too much syrup?" Hermione asked with a frown.

"Huh? No way. There's no such thing as too much syrup." Percy shook his head quickly.

"But that's so much sugar..." She protested weakly. "So many cavities..." With that, Percy dug into his drowning pancakes.

"Don't mind him. He's a pig when it comes to food." Thalia rolled her eyes.

"Takes one to know one." Percy sassed back between mouthfuls. I tried to hold back my laughter fruitlessly as Thalia's cheeks turned crimson. She turned to me with a glare.

"Oh shut up, Death Breath. Like you're any better." She growled. I bit my lip to keep from laughing more, holding my hands up in surrender.

"Okay, okay. Don't get all Artemis on me." Hermione glanced up from her food curiously.

"Artemis?" She asked.

"She's a friend of ours." Percy smoothly covered up my slip up. "She's a feminist and kinda takes after the actual Greek goddess Artemis." He chuckled easily and I smiled at my cousin in silent thanks.

"She sounds fun." Hermione smiled, closing the book on her lap as Dumbledor stood up. The entire hall went silent and everyone turned to him.

"Today I have the pleasure of announcing two more new arrivals from the American school of Wizardry." Next to me, I saw Percy stiffen in surprise and immediately shoot his eyes to the closed doors. I could almost feel the excitement and longing coming from him. "Please welcome Annabeth Chase and Leo Valdez." The doors burst open and a brunette elf raced in, his hands on fire.

"ALL DA LADIEZ LUV THE SUPERSIZED MCSHIZZLE!" He yelled, laughing his head off. This caused a ripple of amusement and laughter to wash over the students. Annabeth followed after, looking like a calm pond after the raging fire that was Leo. The corner of her mouth twitched upwards in amusement at the sight of Leo, but she looked calm and centered as she followed slowly behind. Next to me, I saw Percy grin, eyes gleaming with happiness. He never moved his gaze from the blonde girl. Her calculating grey eyes scanned over the students until they landed on a particular teenage boy. Her whole face seemed to light up as she saw Percy. She smiled brightly and I could tell that it took all of her self control to keep her from running over to him right there and then. Leo came to a stop again, standing next to Annabeth with a goofy grin on his face. Professor McGonagle walked forward, the sorting hat in her hands.

"VALDEZ, LEO!" It shrieked.

"Cool. Do you think it's a mechanism placed within the material?" I heard him mutter to himself as he walked forward. "Or maybe it's a mixture of-" He sat down and McGonagle put it on his head. It slipped over his eyes and nose, and another wave of amusement ran through the crowd. He grinned, pushing it up again.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The red and gold decked table burst into a round of polite applause. He stood up and started to walk towards the table, the hat still on his head, before a hand stopped him. He turned around and McGonagle took the hat from his head. He smiled sheepishly as laughter rose again amongst the students. Even the teachers were smiling and chuckling. He walked to our table, sitting in the empty seat next to me. He and I fist bumped, before we turned our attention to Annabeth.

"CHASE, ANNABETH!" The hall fell silent again as she walked towards the older woman and the talking hat. She sat down and the hat was placed on her head. After a minute or two, the hat finally spat out,

"GRYFFINDOR!" Again everyone applauded, especially the Gryffindor table. She stood up, took the hat off, and handed it back to McGonagle.

"Now everyone can go back to their food. Oh, and one last ting. The rest of the classes for today are cancelled." Dumbledor said, a hint of amusement in his voice. The air filled with a chatter, cheering and applauding at that, before everyone went back to eating and conversing. Annabeth came to our table, sitting next to Percy. He immediately pecked her on the lips, before wrapping his arms around her and pulling her in for a hug. She hugged him back and I could hear them murmuring things to each other.

"So... you're the flirty, hyper, ADHD pyromaniac they have warned me about?" Hermione asked slowly.

"Yep." Leo answered proudly. "And don't forget; best mechanic you'll ever lay your eyes on."

"And you're Annabeth... Percy's girlfriend, right?" She asked again. Annabeth nodded, leaning against Percy now while his arm was wrapped around her shoulder. They both looked more at ease than I had seen in a while. "You know, he talks about you a lot." Hermione smiled warmly as Annabeth beamed up at her boyfriend.

"I know. Who wouldn't?" This brought a burst of laughter from their small group. Again I ignored the dirty looks Harry and Ron were throwing at us.

"So... Since we have the rest of the day off. How about we do something fun?" Percy suggested.

"Well we could go to the lake." Hermione suggested.

"Let's go to the lake." Percy agreed.

"Or the library." Hermione suggested again.

"The lake sounds good."

"Or maybe the forbidden forest again." The bushy haired girl shrugged.

"How about the lake?"

"Or perhaps we could go to the Owlery."

"You got me at 'lake'."

"Or maybe-"

"-the lake?" Percy interupted her. Hermione sighed as Annabeth chuckled.

"Okay, okay. Let's just go to the lake." He stood up and helped the blonde girl up, draping his arm around her shoulder.

"Maybe we should take our pets." I suggested.

"Sure. I haven't spent much time with Dawn anyway."

"The same with Nightmare." I agreed.

"What pets did you guys get?" Annabeth asked.

"An eagle."

"A cat skeleton thing." Percy, Annabeth, Leo and Hermione all gave me a questioning look. I sighed. "It'll be easier to just show you." They all walked towards the Gryffindor common room. Once they had said the password, and everyone had had a good laugh about the irony of it, we went into our separate rooms after telling Hermione that we'd be only a few minutes. She seemed happy to wait.

I found Nightmare curled up in a ball on my black bed. I almost couldn't see her, until her tail flicked slightly. I found myself smiling as I stroked her soft, silky fur. The cat opened a single green eye to see who it was, before opening the other and rolling on her back with a purr. I chuckled and picked her up, her immediately climbing onto my shoulder and trying to balance there. Luckily she was a rather small cat, and could manage not to fall off. He walked out of the room again, meeting Thalia in the hallway. Dawn was perched on her arm and made an odd crowing sound when it saw Nightmare. The black cat, who was now sitting, neatly balanced on my shoulder, took a playful swipe at the bird, who then flared its wings with a startled cry.

"Hey, keep your mangy cat to yourself!" Thalia backed away indignantly.

"Hey! She's not mangy!" I defended my pet. "And she was only playing!"

"What's going on?" Percy asked, coming out of his room with Midnight sitting on his arm. Annabeth followed.

"His cat swiped at Dawn!" Thalia yelled as I glared a her.

"She did not!" I protested.

"It doesn't matter. Let's just go." We all left our rooms to find Hermione arguing with Harry and Ron.

"Why won't you listen to me?!"

"Because you're being an idiot!"

"We are not!"

"Why don't you go-" I cleared my throat, causing all three of them to freeze and look at us.

"Should we uh... should we go?" I asked awkwardly. Hermione took a moment to gather her composure, the angry red tint to her cheeks fading away as she calmed down slightly.

"Yes. Yes we should." She walked away from the other two without a second glance. The walk to the lake was in silence, before Percy suddenly broke the mood.

"Do you guys know that there's a giant squid living in the lake?" I let out a soft chuckle and saw Hermione smile.

"There is?" She asked.

"Yeah. His name is James." Hermione glanced at him in confusion, but didn't say anything else.

"Well I guess we're here." Thalia said.

"Thanks for stating the obvious." I rolled my eyes.

"Shut it, Death Breath."

"Make me, Pinecone Face."

"Oh c'mon guys. Let's stop fighting and have fun for once in a while." Leo groaned.

"All right, all right."

"Fine." We both agreed. I sat down and Nightmare jumped from my shoulder and instead chose to lie in my lap.

"That's a cute cat." Hermione said, sitting down next to me with a book, that I hadn't realised she had been carrying before, in her hands. "Nightmare, right?" I nodded.

"Yeah."

"So you said it was a skeleton cat?" Annabeth asked.

"Yeah. In the shop where I got her, one moment she was normal, the next she was like a skeleton. It was weird." Annabeth looked puzzled, before shaking her head.

"That is weird." She answered vaguely, although I noticed the glance she and Percy shared. I didn't push them though, instead I stroked my cat, who purred loudly, sending vibrations down my legs. Percy in the mean time, was already wading into the water.

"Isn't it too cold?" Hermione asked with a frown. "And you're wearing your clothes still."

"Not really. And I don't mind if my clothes get wet." He dove underwater and I knew that we may not see him again for a good ten minutes. I looked at Annabeth, who was sitting next to Hermione and talking about... okay I lost track of their discussion almost immediately. Something about... architecture? Or books? I don't know anymore. Leo was annoying Thalia, who was watching as Dawn flew through the sky. He finally got bored of pestering her and instead sat next to me, reaching out a hand to pat Nightmare. She opened an eye and growled lowly, but after I murmured to her,

"It's all right, girl." She stopped and allowed him to stroke her.

"Cute demon cat thing." The son of Hephaestus chuckled.

"She's just a cat." I answered irritably. "Don't call her a demon. Or a thing."

"Jeez, I was only kidding. Take a chill pill, Death boy." He laughed.

"Don't call me that." I mumbled. Only Will can call me that.

"Okay okay. Anyway, what type of wand did you get?" He asked, taking out his own. It was a lighter colour, with flames engraved around it. "I got Wood from an Ash tree, core of a phoenix feather, 9 inches. And you?" I took out mine and showed it to him.

"Wood from Weeping Willow, core of a Thestral hair, 11 inches." I answered absentmindedly.

"Cool. And by thestral, you mean...?" He asked, confused.

"It's a breed of winged horses with a skeletal body and face, reptilian features, and wide leathery wings that resembles bat's. They're very rare." I answered again.

"Cool." He repeated. I sighed and lay back, Nightmare crawling up onto my chest. I closed by eyes, letting the grass tickle the back of my neck. "So how long do we have to be here for? Can I get my own pet? What classes do we have?" I sighed.

This is going to be a long year.

Me: Erm... hi there? It's me? The author who hasn't updated in forever? So sorry about that... um... hopefully you won't kill me?

Lols jk. Anwho, what do you think of Nightmare? Personally I already love that cat.

What about Percy and Annabeth's relationship? Unlike most Percy Jackson/Harry Potter fanfic's I've read, I didn't think that Percy would run up to her and kiss her in front of the every single student and teacher. I kinda went for a more realistic, relatable scene. I hope it worked out the way I hoped it would. And-

Leo: I CAME IN LIKE A WREEEEEEECKING BAAAAAAAALL!!!!

Me: oh no...

Leo: I NEVER HIT SO HAAAAARD IN LOOOOOOVE!!!!

Me: Who let him listen to Miley Cyrus?

Leo: Pft. Not Jason. Nope nope.

Me: JAAAAAAAASOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!

*Somewhere in the distance a girly scream is heard as Jason runs away*

Me: Okay, where's my train of thought?

Leo: You lost it when I came in like a wrecking ball.

Me: Right, right. Thank you-Gosh darn it all! Leo!

*Followed by another girly shriek*
