Chapter Six
Keith's POV

I had no clue if I got through to Harmony or not. But I had to keep trying. The more I thought about her the more I knew I wanted to be with her. To get to know her.

And it ate me alive to know that I could have been this whole time and I blew it. I could have been decent. I could have been nice to her. And been her friend. Now we would have been dating. I knew it in my heart.

But my actions back then really blew it. Lesson learned there. I was working on a new song for her. I wanted to sing it to her if she showed up for practice.

I was not counting on her showing up for practice. But I could only hold onto hope that she would be there. That kiss we shared in the park was something. A start. She still had feelings for me. I felt it when we shared that kiss.

She was holding back being able to forgive me. I think deep down she was trying to. She was a very kind person. She always had been. I was rummaging in my room.

And I found old photos with Harmony and all of us. And I found old notes she left stuffed in my locker. I saved everything girls gave to me. I liked ready back on things from fan girls. It boosted my ego when I was feeling rather low.

I unfold the old note carefully.

It read:

Keith! Hey!

I will be going to practice today. As always. Laurie told me you guys had been working on new songs. I know they are going to be wonderful. I love all your songs. You just have the most wonderful voice. I know a ton of girls say that.

But I mean that. I get lonely a lot. And I have no siblings. You are like an older brother to me. And Laurie is like my sister. I love you both so much. I am glad to have you in my life. Have a great school day my friend.

I smile. She had been so sweet. But trying so hard to impress me. I never wrote her back. Well Laurie made me once or twice. I only put thank you Keith or keep on smiling Keith. Something dumb and not meaningful to lead her on back then. I open another letter from her.

It read:

Hello my brother!  My friend. My Amigo!

Sorry I had spanish today. And Mrs. Hollstand is a pain in my neck. She almost caught me writing this to you. She would have made me write it all in spanish. But then you would not have been able to read this at all.

My mother says I need to learn at least one other language. Like I will need it one day but oh well. I am so serioudly bored. I loved your song Echo Valley.

It had a storyline to it. You will be a bigger hit then the Beatles were. I know it! Never give up on yourself Keith. I know you can be hard on yourself. But you are wonderful. Have a great day my friend.

She did all this and she used to make me brownies. I wished she did this now. That was it! I could write her a little note. Tell her I saved these. Maybe it would make her feel good?

I could hope that it would show that meant something to me! Maybe Laurie could help me bake her something or mom. I grab my notebook and begin to scribble away.

I wrote her:

Hey Harmony,

Remember when we used to write each other notes in school? I found all the ones you wrote me. I saved them. Funny huh? They did mean a lot to me. They made my day brighter. You were like a little sister at the time to me. I am sorry I did not write back more like I should have.

But I can see now you really had put time into those little letters for me. I treasure them more now than the old me had.

I keep thinking about the park. And our first kiss. It was something. You have been on my mind since then. I meant what I said. And I hope you come to practice. Like old times. I vaule you Harmony. I mean it.

I fold it up like the old days.

Then I head downstairs. The girls were not there yet. Mom was in the kitchen. She was enjoying some lemoaid with Danny. I begin to ding in the cubbords for a box of brownie or cookie mix. Mom looked confused to see me in there.

"Keith what are you doing?" she laughs.

"Mom do we have an easy brownie mix I could whip up?" I ask her.

"No but I have bana bread we could make why?" she asks me.

"I want to make something nice for Harmony if she comes with Laurie. Like she always used to make for me" I mention.

"That is nice of you Keith" says mom. "I can help"

"No let me make it. I want to do it on my own" I tell her.

"You might burn down the kitchen" laughs Danny.

"Stuff  it" I warn him sternly.

Mom helps me prep and get the items I need ready. Soon it was baking in the oven. I was a mess. The kitchen was a mess to. I had to clean it.

"You go clean up then I will clean this up" mom laughs.

"Will you get the bread out of the oven for me when it is done?" I ask.

"Sure" she offers with a smile.

I head upstairs. I have a quick shower. Change my clothing. I had her note on my dresser ready to go.

When I come in my room in my towl around my middle on Danny was reading my note and laughing. I snag it from him.

"Mind, your own business will you?" I warn him sternly.

"You have a crush on Harmony? You kissed her?" he asks making a face.

"We did" I say. "Shut up!! She is beautiful. I do not deserve her" I sigh.

"No that is for sure" laughs Danny as he runs out of the room.

I fold the note back up. 

"Keith?! We are here for practice. They told me you are up here" says Harmony suddenly. My bedroom door was open. She blushes looking stunned to see me there in a towel. "oh, I am so sorry" she stammers shyly.

"No problem. I was baking down there and I made a mess. I will be right down" I explain to her.

"You bake?" she giggles.

"Yes, I am learning new things" I say.

"See you downstairs" she shyly says. She looks at me once more then smiles. I smile back. I shut the bedroom door then get dressed. I rush down there and everyone is eating the bana nut bread I made.

"Keith you really made this?" wonders Laurie.

"Yes" I say.

"It is fanastic" brags a happy Harmony.

"I made it for you. Because you always brought me goodies like this to practice. I wanted to thank you" I pipe up.

Everyone is quiet. Now Harmony is blushing again. She drinks her milk because she is coughing a little bit. "Thank you" she says. "It is very good"

"You are welcome." I say.

"We better practice" says Laurie.

I notice that Harmony leaves her little sweater she wears on a chair there in the kitchen.

Everyone is heading into the garage to sing. And play music. I sneak her little note into her pocket.

"I forgot my sweater" Harmony says coming back for it. I hand it to her.

"Here..." I say to her. Our eyes meet.

"Thanks" she answers. My eyes fall to her lips once more. I wanted to kiss her again so badly.

"We better get back in there" she says.

We head in. I was getting no where fast.....
