Chapter Four
Keith's Pov

I had to figure out why Harmony hated me so much. It really bothered me that she was not giving me a second chance. I kind of wanted one with her. I had to make an effort.

Without Laurie knowing about it of course. Maybe she could enlighten me on why I had been ignored by Harmony. She could tell me what I had done to make Harmony not like me. I had this thing where I could not stand it if someone did not like me.

It was a pet peeve of mine. Most people loved me. Mainly my fan girls but still. So many people out there were dying to get to know me.

Be a part of my life. But here was this woman who wanted nothing to do with me. She used to want to. She followed me around everywhere. I had to have done something awful to make her act this way.

Laurie comes in the house getting more things to bring over to her apartment.

"Need help?" I offer.

"Is this a trick?" she laughs.

"No do you need help?" I offer.

"What is the catch?" she demands to know.

"I did want to come over to talk to Harmony" I admit. "you got me"

"Harmony why?" she asks me.

"I know. I know I did something to upset her! I want a chance to make things right with her, but I do not know what the hell I did?" I exclaim.

"Keith you really need to talk to her on your own. You can't use me to do it" she warns me. "I will not be in the middle of it all"

"I do not expect you to. Let me come over please" I beg her.

"You really mean it?" she asks me. She frowns.

"Yes, I mean it" I say to her.

"Fine" she sighs. "grab a box and come with me" she tells me. "but if she wants you to leave then you leave it is her place"

"I will listen. Let me be of help" I say.

I follow her upstairs. We gather more boxes she had packed up. Then we put it in the van outside. I drive her over to her place. I see Harmony's car was there when we arrive. She was off work.

I help my sister get her boxes out of the van. Then follow her up to the apartment. My heart races happily. I was going to be able to talk to Harmony. With no crowds getting in our way this time. Time to make amends with her. And be friends. Maybe more.

If she wanted that still.

"Hey there Laurie" greets Harmony. "Keith?"

She looks surprised I am there helping Laurie with the boxes.

"Hi stranger" I joke. I wink at her. Then bring Laurie's boxes to her bedroom.

"I will be back. Keith behave" warns Laurie as she heads back to go to the van to make sure we got it all.

"What is going on Keith?" asks Harmony.

"Can we talk? Alone?" I request.

We sit on the couch.

"What about?" she asks me.

"About the past" I say. "I really want to know what I had done to upset you. And make things right. After all my sister will be here. We will run into each other more"

"Right but that does not mean I need to see you any more than we do now" she jokes. I wince.

"Harmony, I must have hurt you badly. Please let me make up for things" I beg her.

"Keith?!...."

"All I ask for is a chance. To be friends. That is all" I swear to her.

"It is all in the past. So is our friendship" she states.

I was getting no where fast.

"Harmony, I want to know what I did" I softly say.

She looks pained. I see tears in her eyes as she brushes them aside.

"I do not want to ever bring it up again" she warns me softly.

She gets up then heads to her room. Slamming the door behind her.

This was worse than I had thought.

"What did you do?" warns Laurie when she sees that Harmony left the living room.

"I do not want to talk about it. I did nothing" I snap. "I am taking the van back home. Have a good day" I say as I head out on my way. Harmony was shutting me out. I hated it. I wanted to be apart of her world. "Keith?" someone speaks up behind me before I head to the van in the parking lot.

"Hey" I say.

"I have been a big fan since high school. I can't believe you are here in my building." gushes a girl my age. Fan girls. I shake her hand.

"My sister moved here. I do not live here" I tell her.

"Laurie is here? Wow!" gushes the girl. "can I ask you something?"

"Sure" I say. She takes my hand then writes her phone number on the palm of my hand with a pen.

"I would love a date with you. Call me any time" she giggles. She winks before wandering off.

I sigh. I look up to see Harmony watching me from the window of her living room. Frowning at me. I could not win with this woman. I was getting frustrated. I see her step away from the window. Then I head to my van. I speed on my way.

Heading home.

When I get home I get a beer. I needed it. I lift the lid off the beer then sit at the kitchen table. Danny comes in the kitchen. He looks confused to why I am in such a bad mood.

"Why the long face? You look like you lost your best friend" he asks me.

"Kind of have" I mutter.

"Who is that?" he asks as he gets a Pepsi from the fridge and sits beside me.

"That Harmony. She hates me now. It bothers me and I do not understand why l let her get under my skin" I tell him a long-winded explanation.

"Simple bro because she wants nothing to do with you so you want her even more" he reminds me. "all in the mind" he tells me as he points to his brain.

"How do I get over her?" I mutter. I tap my fingers on the beer can.

"Get under her" jokes Danny.

"Shut up" I groan.

"You used to hate her guts. She was annoying you. Following you around all over the place. Remember that? You want her following you again like that?" he warns me.

"Do you remember things we talked about about her? Maybe she overheard us!" I gasp.

I sit up out of my chair. I bet that was it! She had to have overheard Danny and I joking about her. Hurting her. That was why she wanted nothing to do with me.

I storm upstairs to my room. I go through old journals of mine. Hoping I complained somewhere about Harmony. But there was nothing in them about her. I got sleepy from the beer and rested my eyes a bit laying on my bed there.

"Keith, I wish Harmony would go home. I want to play hoops at the park but if we go she will invite herself" Danny complains as we sit in the living room at home.

"Be nice Danny. She has a crush is all. She can't help it" I joke. "I mean look at me" I brag.

"Keith I am serious. She needs to get a life" mutters Danny.

"She is a sad lonely loser. She latches on to poor Laurie because she is nice. I let her tag along because I felt sorry for her. She needs to see I do not like her that way. I won't ever like her that way" I joke. "she is a scary looking girl" I smirk.

"She is devoted to you" teases Danny.

"I know. Even scarier" I laugh. We burst into laughter.

I wake up. Having a flash back. How could I be so cruel? I mean sure Harmony was a little on the annoying side. Following me about all over the place. But I knew she was lonely and she did not have many friends. Had she heard me say that about her? Could she have.

"Danny!" I call out to him. He comes in my room.

"What!" he asks me.

I tell him about the flash back.

"Yeah, that happened. You said worse things somedays when you were annoyed" warns Danny.

I did not deserve her friendship after all that. I was not a good friend. She knew that. Harmony should not ever forgive me.

I was not good to her. I wince. I did not know how to go about making this right with her. It had to be done. Even if she stepped away from me forever. At least I would do the right thing by trying to make up for what I had done to her.
