~Epilogue~
I cautiously walk into the room, dressed in a dark blue tank top and shorts.
"Hello?" I call out, and Louisa jumps up from behind the couch.
"Happy D-Day, Bia!" She squeals, while I frown. "D-Day?" I question, and she nods fervently. Suddenly, it clicks in, and I widen my eyes.
"No, no, no, no, no!" I say. Louisa just smiles, a ghastly smile, and tilts her head. "Too late."
Just then, a waterfall of freezing cold water collapses upon me, and I vaguely hear Atticus and Louisa laugh their heads off. I shiver, and glare at them.
"Hardy har har, guys. Yeah, just throw water on the birthday girl, why don't you?" Atticus literally rolls on the floor, the bucket clanging against his legs.
"Your...your face, Bianca! Ahh, I just can't right now!" Atticus says, peals of laughter escaping from him. Louisa has fallen onto the sofa, and she's laughing too hard to get up. I hear someone enter from the back door, and turn to see Amelia's widened eyes at me, sopping wet.
Of course, even she begins to laugh.
I eye them, my eyebrows raised. But their laughter is infectious; soon, even I join in.
Louisa and Amelia get up and walk upstairs to fetch me a new pair of clothes. I turn around, and see Atticus smiling at me. He vaguely waves a hand at the small pile of gifts stacked up, and says, "Hope you like my gift." I smile warmly at him, the butterflies in my stomach flipping at his genuine smile.
"But just in case you don't," he says, moving in closer. "Here's another one."
When he leans in, I don't move back.
