~Chapter Twelve~
The dark green shirt is loose on me, but there's no other option. In the mirror that's reflecting the light of the moon, I can barely be seen, and only as a shadow.
Although I was extremely disappointed to find that I had virtually no black garments, the dark green shirt will provide me with ample cover. I tip toe over to the window, scared that Caitlin will hear my footsteps, even though I know that it's a stupid fear. Caitlin's sleeping; even if she's awake, she won't hear my muffled footsteps.
I unlatch the window, and pause for a moment, enjoying the cool breeze tickling my cheeks. I allow myself one last cursory glance around the room, before swinging a leg over the ledge, agile. The fall is barely two metres, yet I review it with apprehension.
The fall would have been larger, had I been in my room. But I had sneaked down to the first floor, in the dead of the night. Initially, I had been planning to go out from the front door, until I realized that Caitlin would most certainly lock the door; and, frankly, I wasn't bothered to search for the key and risk discovery.
I finally heave a breath, and leap. The impact cuts like a knife through my leg, although I'm pretty certain it doesn't break. However, the aftereffects of the shock leaving me grasping my leg and wincing.
And suddenly, she blooms in my peripheral vision.
I twist my head swiftly towards her, and my breath catches in my throat.
It's her.
The same girl.
From the hospital, school.
Who is she?
I don't dare make a move, instead choosing to continue grasping my leg and staring in her direction. She visibly freezes; obviously she didn't expect to encounter me. With one last glance at me, she melts into the darkness, the shadows folding over her and concealing her.
But just before she left, I saw her clearly shake her head.

I stroll into the school, my keen eyes roving over every person, determined to find the mystery girl. My hands are grasping my backpack, and I hear quite a few people grumble as I bump into them, but I pay no heed to them. My brain barely registers it when I collide into him, stumbling. I'm confused for a moment as to who he is, but his sparkling eyes give him away.
It's Atticus.
