~Chapter Fourteen~
I stare at her, my brain a tornado of emotion; curiosity whirls around, tinged with a bit of fear. Finally, finally, I'll find out who this mystery girl is.
"Who are you?" I ask, inserting authority into my voice. The girl's breath is coming in short gasps, as if my words exhausted her.
Or maybe it's fear.
But why would she be scared of me? I have a perfectly understandable reason to be scared of her. It's not everyday you get a stalker that watches you in the hospital, or foils your escape plan.
"I'm A...Amelia." She finally says, her voice trembling. A light nudge on my shoulder distracts me from her, Amelia, and I turn to find Louisa, a mixture of confusion and worry on her face.
"Let her go, Bianca." The authority in her voice surpasses my own, and in my shock that such a fun loving person could have such a stern voice, my hand slips on Amelia's forearm. She slides away, and I don't follow.
"Care to tell me what that was about?" Louisa's voice is back to her old one, and I'm close to spilling the beans, but just then the bell rings.
"Lunch." I reply, and she nods. When I head off towards my biology class, Louisa doesn't follow. "Uhh...I have chemistry now, sorry." She says apologetically, although it's not her fault. It was stupid of me to think we'd be in all of the same classes.
I nod, smiling, and say, "See you at lunch."
The smile is fake.

The Bio classroom is fairly larger than the English one. The white slab at the front is blindingly clean, and I scan the room for suitable seats. A group of mingling girls and boys grab my attention, and I momentarily glance at them, when suddenly the teacher strides into the room. I hurried towards the seat closest to me; a boy is sitting on the other side, and he glares at me and, placing a protective hand the chair next to him, says, "Occupied."
I raise my eyebrows, but go to the seat immediately behind, where a girl s looking at the boy with an expression of utmost disgust on her face. When the teacher informs us that she had left her binder in the staff room and went to get it, the girl whispers to me, "He's a jerk. Don't worry about him." I smile at her, and reply, "I wasn't planning to." A slow grin paints itself across her face, and she holds out her hand.
"Mandy."
Accepting the hand, I said, "Bianca."
It seems I was better at making friends than I had initially thought.

I cross my knife and fork over the plate, licking my lips from the delicious meal of pasta. Caitlin smile at me, and I steel myself for the question I was about to ask.
After my failed escape plan, I had been looking for ways to prove that Caitlin was lying about the coma story; I still didn't believe her.
At all.
"May I ask you a question?" I say formally.
"Go ahead."
"If...if I was in a coma for three years, then why...why are my scars still fresh?" I try in vain not to give any hint of the doubt inside me; doubt at her story, doubt at her. Caitlin's smile falters, and then she launches into speech.
"While you were in your coma, you used to have sudden electric charges flow through you, and spasms. You would claw at yourself, jump up to make the wires cut into you. Like I said, it was sudden, with no preceding warning. It did, however, show us that all your systems worked, if only you would wake up. And...that's why we decided to try to wake you up."
Curiosity finds its way inside me, and I want to hear more.
More of the lie she's weaving so beautifully.
"How?"
She seems to understand, and says, "We gave you an highly charged electric shock, to kick start your brain. It was extremely dangerous; if we gave too much power, your brain would have been fried. But...we decided to take the chance."
I nod slowly, letting her believe that I believe her.
In reality, I'm pondering about why she continues to stitch the convincing lie.
So! Are your "three years coma, why scars?" question answered?!?!? And, I really appreciate all of you for putting enough thought to my book that you would ask such a query!! <3 Remember, it's Science FICTION so this does not have to be real!
