Somewhere in Ughelli, Delta State.

The night sky wasn't the usual meekness it had. The thunder clapped loudly and the lightening was fierce. The rain poured heavily while the trees danced clearly enjoying the weather. A hunter in his forties clung a baby to his chest, shielding it from the harsh downpour as he ran home with his gun hung on his left shoulder.

"Onome!!" He shouted as soon as his small bungalow was in sight. Soon Onome, his wife opened the door to let him in.

"*Doh* This kin weather"

Once in, the baby woke up from it's sleep and started crying. Mudiaga Brume was amazed at how a baby could sleep soundly through all the chaos.

"Mudiaga, is that a baby with you?" She looked at the little bundle in her husband's arm. "Where did you see this child?"

"Calm down, I found the baby while hunting and I couldn't leave her out there in the storm" Onome calmed down a little "Shey we will return it back?"

"Of course, if we see her parents" As he said that, his sons ran out to hug him "I'm wet o!!"

"Daddy, miguo" They both greeted in unison

"Vrendo my boys...how are you?"

"We are scared" Kelly, the eldest one answered
"Is that a baby?" Stanley asked curious

"Yes she is a girl and she needs you to protect her. So don't be scared, you are men. Alright?"

"Yes Sir" They both said in unison imitating soldiers.

Mudiagah sighed and turned to his wife "Please take care of her and keep her warm, I'm going to change" with that said, he left the baby in her arms then his kids started playing with her.

Somewhere in Garden City, Rivers State.

"I have to go John, please. We had a deal, I don't abort the child then you let me go pursue my dreams. What changed?"

"Chiamaka, I thought you would change your mind once you see the baby" He gave her a look of disappointment and regret "You are blinded by your ambition and you don't know what's important again"

Chiamaka looked at the baby wrapped in blankets as John held her then looked away "You caused this whole thing. I told you they won't take a pregnant model but you insisted. You can't blame me for wanting to pursue my dreams. All this was a mistake right from the start"

"No, the only mistake was me falling in love with you. If you leave just know that you would be dead to me and trust me you won't ever see her again cause clearly all you think about is yourself" He looked at his daughter and cradled her as he hummed softly

"Fine" Chiamaka spoke minutes later "Goodbye John, Goodbye baby." With that, she walked out of the hospital room where she had just delivered the baby. She couldn't stay here any longer before someone from the Agency found out she put to bed. She walked out of their lives without looking back.

Chiamaka walked into the busy road asking herself if she made the right choice. Of course she did and she could always come back to them but John said she won't be part of their lives. She was so deep in thought that she didn't notice the scene in front of her until she saw fire.

It was a car accident and soon the police came with ambulance to the scene. Three bodies were confirmed dead and the only survivors were a 10-year-old and a toddler.

The driver had lost control of the brakes and hit an electric pole which immediately caught fire.

For those who are not Nigerian or Uhrobos, here's the meaning of some words used in the chapter:

Doh: It could mean well-done, thanks or sorry but in this case it means sorry.
Shey: It means right e.g "we will return the baby, right?"
Miguo: This is how the younger ones great the elder ones in my language.
Vrendo: And this how the elderly answers the greeting.
