Thirteen minutes.
Thirteen minutes before the most awaited football game began. Different crowds of people piled into the stadium with bags of salty popcorn, bottles of fizzy drinks and camera's to make this memory last forever.
All the fans of one country sat together and despite their differences looked one, in their homemade banners; face paints and t shirts that showed nothing but patriotism.
The sweet smell of cotton candy and the salty butter taste of popcorn were so thick in the atmosphere which made players sick to the stomach through nervousness.
Chanting down a countdown from 10 to 1,
and munching down greasy food was the audience; the players arranged themselves on the pitch as the game began.
The game was intense.
More and more people entered the stadium into the cold and hard seats to watch the most awaited event of the year. People brushed against each other as they filled, inside underneath the harsh sun.
The crowd was focused now, booing and cheering according to their countries team. Men were leaning forward with their elbows on their knees and their palms on their chins, their eyes zoned into the ball. Women were focused on the match as well, but were also taking care of their children, feeding them.
There were only 5 minutes till half break, and the ball was super close to the goal. The ground went absolutely silent now; even a pin dropping could be heard. People hushed and frowned when someone sneezed and hushed those who were busy chattering. The stadium was like a picture, everyone hushed and frozen, attentive/attention on the ball.
The player missed the goal by a couple of inches, and the opposite team supporters cheered with happiness.
The scores were nil, nobody having scored. Half time occurred and the audience chattered away, taking pictures.
The tension was thick in the air as half time finished, and the referee blew the whistle to start the game. The one and only thought that was ringing inside the spectators minds was; who was going to win?
Time passed, the clock ticked away but no one scored.
Beads of sweat littered over each and every human watching and playing this match, in and out of the stadium. The ball was like a blur, moving back and forth between the players.
Three minutes.
Three minutes left before the game ended – and if no team scored, extra time would be given. Children were tired now and wanted to go home, women lost interest and were too busy chattering with others. Men sighed in frustration, internally willing someone to score.
But the most unexpected thing happened.
GOAL!
The whole ground erupted with cheers, and shook with screams. The players hugged each other in happiness that they had scored and the referee blew the whistle for game over. The crowd stood on their feet, making waves with their hands and cheering songs of their country.
In and out of the stadium, everyone enjoyed the match.
