Chapter Twenty-Four

Sonny is exhausted I can tell from the way he is sleeping. Yesterday was the biggest night of his life and so was it mine. Not only did Coverton win a big match, Sonny and I made love.

I can't quite wrap my head around it. It feels right and I can't think of another perfect moment.

I decide I want to make him something before he gets up. I've been living here for free after all. Lucky, I carried my check with me. The last check Kian gave me.

What better way to spend it than on Sonny. He has given my life a brand new meaning. I look at him once again- he is dead asleep his chain over his chest. I decide to slip out because I know he would never let me leave him like this.

I do take some time looking at myself in the bathroom mirror. Do I look different? I pull my hair back then free it. Can anyone tell that... I have become a woman? I take one last glance at a handsome Sonny lying on the bed and head out.

He lets me drive his range sometimes, I take the keys and leave a note. I don't know what the future holds but for now I am alive.

I have never been much of a cook but I pick up some basics like eggs, potatoes, my favorite sauces, cheese and grapefruit- he loves grapefruit. It's bitter but he finishes it. What a year I am now college bound, went through several tries with my crew but at least I got a great boyfriend. For today the world is a beautiful place.

On my way out of the store something feels off.

I have taken one to the stomach ... another one on the arm. My t-shirt is staining a dark red, I watch as I go down. I also said if I die, I would die fighting. The next shot dims all the lights. There is no light.

"Sonny..."

He is sitting on a park bench holding some books looking at me.

"Kelly, you're late again. How are we supposed to finish the lessons when you're not here?"

"Hey-" I smile at him in the bright sun.

"You know I finished all my lessons."
