Chapter XVI

"Someone stop her before she mutilates every tree here."

"That won't be possible," Mira grunted, her eyes lazy following the red-haired woman, who had sworn to take her revenge on trees.

I sighed, trying to stop my mind from replaying the events of last night; Erza had come, storming back from her 'mission', witnessed her mother's death, and went insane.

   I don't blame her.

"Thank Natsu, Erza would've been killed if he hadn't transported us away, into one of the hideouts," Lucy muttered.

Erza then spared Lucy a glance of hatred, before returning to chop down another sapling. I felt sorry for her, it wasn't easy losing the only family you had.

   Especially when they loved you...

"We should put enchantments around this area." Mira frowned, "Now that Ac- Acno,"

"Shhhhhh~,"  Natsu went up to Mira, and comforted her by softly wiping away her tears, "We're all family now," he went around the radius of the camp we'd set up, "Always."

Appearing out of nowhere, Erza sat down heavily next to me. I was close enough to her to be able to see the tear lines, staining her cheeks. Her chocolate-brown eyes seemed to have lost their shine, and she was in simple clothes.

   "Erza-,"

Gray put his hand on Lucy's mouth, and shook his head, "Leave her be," he whispered, a sad glow in his irises, "She needs alone time, Lucy."

Lucy looked at him in defiance, but then got up, and walked away. Proceeding to 'help' Natsu with the enchantments. I smiled; something was going on with those two.

   Whoosh!

"Ow!" I yelped, getting up and staring hard at Mira. A twig lay down at my feet, as the she-devil grinned.

"Shut up, softie," she taunted, "If you don't want to freeze to death, help me set up a fire. Oh, and Gray," she added sweetly, "Set up tents."

   "I don't want to-"

"Four tents better be set up before we return, or else-!"

   "Yes, Ma'am!"

I beamed, and followed Mira, as we went past the concealment enchantments that Natsu set up. "Will they work?"

    "Huh- what?"

I grinned nervously, asking again, "Natsu's enchantments."

Mira snorted, smirking lightly, while Natsu continued to mutter in Japanese. "Erza's enchantments would be better, but Natsu's firewalls are pretty dope."

I sweatdropped and continued walking, leaves crunching under my boots. Mira and I ended up dragging back a tower of wood so that we could have enough fire for the rest of the week.

"I've finished," Natsu muttered half-heartedly and grabbed some wood from the pile, arranging them around the fire that was now sizzling in the middle of the tents Gray had set up. The raven-haired man was missing, so I guessed he had retreated to a tent already.

"Thanks, Natsu," Mira grinned sweetly, and went to the tent north-east of the fire, "Oi, Stripper. Unless you want your life kicked out of that skeezy body, you better come out."

Immediately, Gray ran out of the tent, his eyes wide with fear. I giggled and moved up on my log, so he could sit next to me.

"Erza?" I flinched as Lucy got up from her log, and padded up to the red-head that was staring ruefully at a tree, "We- uh- I- Mira wants you to join us. I mean, if you want to - If you'd like, we could um- Jellal'll give you food in your tent, you can rest there!"

    "Wait- what- Lucy!"

"That would be lovely," Erza unfroze from her stance, and smiled drily, "I'll be in this tent," she headed towards the tent that was North-West of the fire. Sighing, she entered it; a plop from inside the tent told me that she probably had sat down inside.

"Lucy," I turned, as Mira grinned evilly, "You are my worthy apprentice,"

The two girls high-fived, making Gray snort, while my heart continued to race. Erza was already in a bad mood, and if I messed anything up, it could make it worse.

"Right," Mira squeaked, sitting on a log, "I have marshmallows?"

"Huh?!" Gray said, furrowing his eyebrows, "How do you just casually have Marshmallows?!"

"It's a Vampire thing," Natsu growled, lunging towards the bag that was next to Mira's legs, "Oh, you don't mind blood-coated ones, do you?"

"YOU THINK WE WOULD 'NOT MIND' EATING BLOODY MARSHMALLOWS?!" Gray sneered, and rolled his eyes, "You're a bloody psycho, you are."

    "I am not-!"

Lucy got up, and sat down next to Natsu, shooting Gray a warning glance. The raven-haired man snorted, and got up, heading back to his tent which was across Erza's. Lucy just raised her eyebrows, and returned her attention to Natsu, "-You're not, Natsu. You're just... very interesting."

I rolled my eyes, puffing, and saw that even Natsu wasn't impressed, but he simply smiled, getting over Gray's insult.

"Um," Mira began awkwardly, "So yes to blood marshmallows?"

    "No!"

"Ok, ok," Natsu hissed, "Don't get your Boxers in a twist, or um, underwear," he glanced as Lucy, who flushed and seemed to regret her decision to sit next to him, "I'll go look for food around here."

"You really shouldn't," Lucy shot up, "I'll go with Jellal. It's almost sundown, and you're- you might get urges, right? You are a Vampire, Natsu!"

"And you think I can't control them?" he retorted drily, "Plus, which stupid human would be mad enough to be in a forest, at night?!"

"You'd be surprised how mad Humans - and Vampires - can be," Mira broke in, diplomatically, and Natsu relaxed, satisfied. "I guess you two can have these instead," she cheekily tossed us a bag full of candy.

I shook my head, "You couldn't say so before, could you Strauss?"

"What was the fun in that, Fernandes?" she grinned, "Now, toast some marshmallows first. You're Erza's dinner- Sorry, sorry! You are bringing Erza's dinner."

Heat flushed through me at her words, I was glad that it was steadily getting darker, so Mira probably couldn't see. Maybe I wanted to find out; find out how it felt to be Erza's dinner.

What in the world are you thinking, Fernandes? Calm your hormones.

"Hehe," Lucy chuckled inwardly and chewed on a lemon sweet.

Grabbing a stick from Mira, I cringed as I squeezed a blood-red marshmallow onto the end, and began toasting it on the end. Lucy and Mira left soon after I finished toasting ten marshmallows. I didn't think that Erza would eat all of them, and thought to give Natsu four of them. He grinned, and took them gladly, burping lightly and headed for the last empty tent.

Mira and Lucy had decided to sleep together in the tent South-East of the Fire, and Natsu had claimed the tent opposite theirs.

I gulped, suddenly aware how quiet the forest was, and hoped Natsu's enchantments were enough to keep... dangerous things out.

Rushing, I headed towards Erza's tent, and stupidy tried to knock. Of course, that ended up with the entire tent collapsing - due to Gray's 'tent-putting-uping expertise'.

Flip, flip. Flippity, fricking, flipping flip-flops. I'm Dead.

"WHO WAS THAT?!" a voice hissed from inside. A bulge lifted the material of the collapsed tent, making it out outside.

"I WILL KILL- Oh. It's you." Erza's cheeks were colored once again, and her eyes had regained their sparkle. She stared blankly up at me, and I sheepishly felt thrilled that I was taller than her, even if by a bit.

"I- uh- I come baring Marshmallows?" I bared my teeth in an awkward smile, and she raised her eyebrows.

"Thanks, Jellal," she bit into one marshmallow, taking a stick from me, chewing thoughtfully, "That should stop me from jumping you."

    "H-huh?"

She chuckled softly, and ushered me to help her put up the tent once again, "Just leave the marshmallows there," she motioned towards a cup, and I put the marshmallows inside, tossing the wooden sticks into the fire.

"Next time," she muttered, "I'll teach Gray to properly put tents up," she lifted half the tent, pinning it in piece properly, so it stuck to the mossy ground. I copied her, hoping she'd approve. A nod from her filled me with accomplishment.

"Now," she lifted the cup and went inside, "get your butt here, peasant."

I scowled, and followed her, not thinking and zipping the tent up behind me. I kneeled on the tent floor and faced her. She just seemed amused and didn't say anything about it.

    "What did you mean?"

    "Mmm?"

    "About you... 'Jumping me',

"Oh," Erza swallowed her fifth marshmallow, and set the cup down, "Well, as you know, Vampires have blood-urges and whatever, blah, blah blah."

I nodded, and she continued, "Well um, that isn't very true."

I suddenly began to pant, nervous, as another flush of heat when through my body. I placed my hands on my lap, sheepishly.

She just rolled her eyes, "Boy problems, eh?"

God, if you're out there. Please kill me.

"Right. Um. It's more... weird," she began, hesitantly, "The urges are more, uh- I think the right word would be 'inappropriate'."

"So- So it's like a physical urge?"

"Not quite," she grinned, noticing how uncomfortable I was, "It's that, but also a blood urge. If- If I drink your blood," she quickly covered up the fact that she was just talking about me in general, "Or, y' know, Gray's- or- or Lucy's, then it bonds you to me."

    I nodded slowly, "Ah."

    "Yeah." she sighed.

"Well," I began cockily, wincing at the huskiness of my voice, "If you ever need my blood, hun'," I turned to unzip the tent, and turned to look at her once more, "Just ask."

Quickly, I ran out of the tent, trying to appear confident while my soul was melting on the inside. Erza's voice replied, in equal cockiness, "Thanks for the offer, Jellal. We'll see just how worth it'll be - training tomorrow at six!"

Entering Gray's tent, I fell next to him.

"Crap. Why. wHY DiD YoU hAVe to sAY thAT, YoU mORon."

Well, you see, I think I overdid the last part, riiiiiight after Jellal enters Erza's tent. Should I tone down the um, fluff? Plus the inappropriateness?

Whatever, it's all Galaxy_ChanPai's fault that my mind is filthy.
