Chapter 8

I was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans, a light grey sweater and black shoes. It was a little chilly outside in the spring so I couldn't wear any of my pretty dresses. Maybe I could pull it off if I wore tights with them but I didn't want to risk getting sick and not being able to see Frank. Who should be here to pick me up any minute as I waited in the kitchen.

"You need to bring him around for dinner sometime," my grandma said.

"Oh, that sounds like a great idea!" My mom chirped in agreement. "Is there anything we should know about him?"

"Not really, nothing special," I lied.

I couldn't tell them he was engaged because I knew they wouldn't like it. The morals of tearing a family apart were just too much. It would all just be making me out to be a homewrecker. The doorbell rang and I jumped up, hurrying to the door. Frank had clearly just gotten done with work. He had ditched his blazer and tie but kept on his white button up that was tucked into his black skinny jeans.

"Hi," I said shyly.

Frank smiled, holding out his hand. I took it and shut the door behind me as we went out to his car.

"You look beautiful," Frank said.

I blushed. "Thank you."

We got into his car and started driving, but I again didn't know where we were going.

"What are we gonna do on our date?" I asked.

"Well, I thought we could go on a little walk through the words to this one clearing I know and have a picnic there," he said.

I smiled, nodding my head quickly. It seemed like the perfect date but something Frank had said on the phone yesterday still burned in the back of my mind. I tried to ignore it as best as I could but Frank could tell something was making me uncomfortable.

"What's wrong, doll?" Frank asked.

I blushed at the pet name. "Well, it's just that on the phone last night you called Jamia your wife but you two aren't even married yet."

"I did? Oh, I didn't mean to, I'm sorry," Frank apologized.

"But why did you call her that?" I asked.

"I just...I guess I've been wanting to marry her for so long that it just came out naturally that she's my wife," he admitted.

"So you want to be with her instead of me?" I asked.

"No," he denied quickly. "I mean, yes? No, I don't know. I don't know what I want."

"Okay," I muttered, looking out the window sadly.

"Hey, let's not let this ruin our date, okay?" Frank asked, and I nodded sadly. "Please, Gee, I've been wanting to be with you for days. I want this to be a happy date."

"Okay, let's make this a happy date then," I stated a bit sourly.

"C'mon, baby, don't be like this," he said. "You can't expect to drop my fiancée that quickly, I've known her and dated her since high school. This is all just so sudden, Gee, I'm not entirely sure who I want to be with yet."

I could feel my eyes tearing up as I looked away. I ruined everything for him, ruined the perfect life he was gonna have with Jamia. I took a deep breath, trying my hardest not to cry.

"Baby, don't cry," Frank said softly as he parked the car and I saw we were in a little parking lot.

His hand was on my cheek gently, turning my head to look at him. Frank gave me a soft kiss, running a hand through my hair.

"If you want to be with her then that's okay, I understand," I whispered. "I could just walk home and I won't bother you two ever again."

"No, I don't want that," Frank denied. "When I'm not with you everything seems so much worse. A life without you is just dull and grey. You make my world so much better."

I gave a small smile. "You make my world better too."

"Now how about we go out there and we have the best date ever, huh?" He suggested, kissing the tip of my nose.

I giggled and nodded my head. As I was getting out of the car, I saw him take off his wedding band and put it in the little pocket in front of the gear stick. He got out, giving me a smile and not realizing I saw him.

"What was that for?" I asked.

"What?" Frank asked innocently.

"You took off your wedding ring," I stated.

"Oh, I don't know, I just felt a little uncomfortable wearing it around you," he said.

I wasn't sure if I should take this as a good thing or a bad thing as I nodded my head.

"Hey, let's just try to have a peaceful evening together," he said quietly, kissing my forehead.

"Okay, Frankie," I replied in a soft voice.

He smiled at me, wrapping his arms around me in a hug.

"C'mon, sweetheart, let's go," Frank said.

I again blushed at the little pet name, feeling my heart flutter. He opened the trunk, grabbing out a backpack and slinging it over his shoulder. He took my hand as we walked through a trail in the woods. I looked at everything in the beauty that there was. Green leafs and brown dirt. My grandma has been teaching me things and I know a lot more colors now. Not all of them, I've been keeping my eye out for an eggplant because my grandma said those are purple. That's how she teaches me, she tells me an object and tells me what color it is. So when I'm with Frank I can see what they look like.

"You see those leafs, Frankie?" I asked and he nodded. "That's the color green."

Frank looked at the trees in awe.

"And this dirt is brown," I told him then pointed to a Robin sitting on a branch. "That bird is the color red."

"I know red, Gee, it's the same color as your hair," Frank said, looking at my hair. I blushed and Frank laughed. "Now it's the same color as your cheeks too! I didn't know people could change colors like that too!"

I laughed along with him as the two of us leaned against a tree.

"Oh my god, you're so beautiful," Frank whispered.

He leaned in, capturing my lips in a deep kiss. I felt his hands on my hips as they pulled me closer to him, pressing my body against his while my arms went around his neck. Our lips moved together, my heart beating so fast I'm pretty sure he could hear it, if not then he could definitely feel it with how close we are. My hand ran through his black hair, softly tugging at the long strands. Frank pulled away, pressing his forehead against mine.

"You might not wanna do that unless you wanna be fucked up against this tree," he whispered.

I gulped, feeling my cheeks heat up once again. "Does hair pulling turn you on?"

He nodded and I tried my hardest not to smirk. Well, I guess I'll keep that little fact for later.

"Okay, let's go then," I said.

He held my hand as we continued on our way through the trail. The beautiful scene was behind us as we walked into something even more mesmerizing. I have never seen water before and i never knew what I had been missing out on. There was a pond in front of us with a small field of grass and the rest was surrounded by trees. The water reflected every color and shape in a slightly distorted version. It shimmered, colors dancing around as the little waves rippled around.

"I don't think I'm ever going to stop touching you," I said.

Frank laughed, leaning over and kissing my cheek. He set the backpack down, pulling out a blanket and setting it out. Luckily it was just us two here so we wouldn't have to worry about anyone else. He pulled out two nutella sandwiches, handing me one.

"You cut the crusts off," I remarked as I took it out of the container.

"Oh, yeah, sorry, I just did it out of habit," he said.

"No, it's okay, I like it with the crust off," I said.

I took a bite as I suddenly realized he was in habit of doing it because he did it for Jamia. Maybe this was one of her favorite foods so he's giving it to me too. These thoughts made me a little sad that he was just giving me what Jamia likes because he doesn't really know what I like.

"How is it, Gee?" Frank asked.

"It's good," I replied.

"I also have pretzels and juice," he said.

He pulled out a juice box for me and a water bottle for himself. I looked up at him and smiled happily. I didn't know why I was so worried, I think he's just trying to care for me and this is just how he naturally does it. We finished eating quietly, a comfortable silence between us as we listened to the lapping of the water against the edge of the pond.

"What's my treat?" I asked.

Frank looked at me in confusion. "Treat for what, darling?"

"Last night you said you'd give me a treat if I finished all my studying," I reminded him.

"Oh right, and were you a good boy and did as da--I said?" Frank asked.

I stared his him for a moment, seeing the way his grey cheeks turned a different shade of grey as he blushed. We weren't touching so I couldn't see any colors. I could tell he was about to say daddy.

"I did it all," I said.

"Then how does cuddles sound?" He asked, opening his arms.

I smiled happily, falling into his arms as he laid back down on the blanket. The sun began to set and I saw something even more beautiful than the pond. The sky filled with all sorts of colors, the only one I recognized was red. There were other similar colors swirled together in this magnificent artwork that was the sunset. The sight above me made me want to cry. I looked at Frank, who had a similar expression on his face while he looked up. I leaned up and kissed his cheek, watching him look down at me with all the colors reflecting in his hazel eyes.

"Thanks for taking me on this date, daddy," I whispered, holding my breath to see what his response would be.

He smiled, wrapping his arms tighter around me and kissing my forehead. "Anytime, baby boy."
