Chapter 3: The Guard's Life
The moment Darcy disappeared? Luz came flying inside of her house, with her brother and sister. Hunter and Vee.
"Ami! King! I'm home!" Luz called before looking around. "Huh...where are they?"
Hunter hummed. "Hey...why was the door left open?"
"Maybe it was too hot?" Vee asked with a shrug, scratching her head before peeking outside. Her eyes widened. "UMMM, GUYS?"
Hunter and Luz peeked out as well before they gasped at what looked like the destroyed forest. All of them quickly flew over before Luz saw a sight that horrified her. A sight she would only see in the worst of her nightmares. A sight she'd hope she'd never ever see.
"AMITY!!! KING!!!!" Luz screamed, rushing down and crashing against the leaves and twigs. She ran over, cradling King and Amity. They looked badly injured. She quickly checked their pulse. Alive. "C-C'mon, baby! Wake up!" She called to King, tears forming in her eyes as she cradled him.
"O-Oh no..." Vee said with a light whimper, covering her mouth as she watched in horror.
Hunter knelt down to Amity, looking her over. He tried to open one of her eyes, and saw something only he noticed...her eyes, instead of gold. Were orange. 'What the...?'
Luz cradled Amity next, tears already streaming down her face when she saw King wasn't waking up. "A-Amity...! P-Please...! W-Wake up!"
Hunter stepped forward. "Luz-"
Luz spun around her finger, trying to use any kind of healing spell or ANY kind of spell to wake them up. But nothing worked. She felt terror burn bright like flames, licking at her skin. She trembled, holding both of them.
"Boiling Isles." Luz suddenly said. "Healers Coven. NOW!!!!"
Quickly scooping Amity and King up, the three siblings flew over to the portal that led to The Boiling Isles AKA The Demon Realm...while two figures watched.
One gigantic and the other mechanical. Both their eyes glowed a bright orange as they disappeared into the shadows.
They went through the portal, Luz practically at super speed as she went into the temple of the Healers Coven. "WE NEED HELP!!!" She cried out.
Healers, well, noticed the passed out human and SON of their king in their hero's arms and quickly got to work. Hunter handled the payment and registering and everything like that. Vee just stayed by Luz's side, doing whatever she could.
"This will only take a moment." One of the healers said. "We promise you, Mrs. Clawthorne, they'll be okay."
Luz wanted to believe them. She badly wanted too...but this fear. The doubt. It harmed her more than Belos or Kikimora EVER could. She meekly nodded as the healer left with the love of her life and her boy.
She sat down in the waiting room, trying to slow her breathing down. "...w-what happened...? W-What could have...? W-Who could have...? O-Oh, god..." Her voice began to shake. "W-What if...w-what if...!"
"H-Hey, hey! It's going to be okay!" Vee reassured, holding her sister's hand. "Amity and King are going to be just fine! I know it!"
Luz looked at Vee, her eyes watering with even more tears. But behind those was FEAR. Pure FEAR. "Y-You can't know t-that for certain! I-I can't lose them...! T-They can't die...no, no, no, they can't die!"
"Luz...Luz, deep breaths." Vee whispered, trying to be as gentle as possible. She hugged Luz, rubbing her back in circles. Luz had calmed her down many times, so it was time she returned the favor. "Deep breaths...in and out. Like you taught me."
Luz trembled in fear, but started with her shaky breaths. In and out. In and out. In and out. In and out. That's what she kept whispering to herself, with her voice getting quieter and quieter until she was telling that to herself in her head.
Her deep breaths started out shaky and trembling. She sounded so scared. She had faced monsters, demons, and even their definition of a GOD. But this...this...this terrified her. Losing her mother broke her even now, because the pain of loss never really went away. It just got easier to deal with.
Losing the woman she loved with all her heart? Losing the only child she had who she had raised and cared for ever since he was little? All in the exact same day? She'd break.
She could already hear it in her head. The flat-line. The healers coming out with bad news. Luz's world shattered at the mere thought.
Luz began to cry softly, hugging Vee tighter and clutching her back. Vee just hugged back, wanting to be there for her.
Hunter slowly walked over, his heart crumbling at the sight before hearing a meow. He turned and saw Amity's palisman. Ghost.
Ghost went over, crawling into Luz's lap, and cuddled in it.
Luz held Ghost close, sniffling as tears came down. "I-I'm so s-scared, Ghost...V-Vee, I can't l-lose them...!"
"You won't." Hunter said. "I swear on my life, you are not going to lose ANYONE ever again."
Then? The healer from earlier came out. "Mrs. Clawthorne?"
Luz shot up, gently setting Ghost down. "Y-Yes? A-Are they okay? Are they-"
"They are stable." The healer said. "And we are doing ALL we can. But, do you know what happened to them?"
Luz sniffled, wiping her eyes. "N-No...we found them like this. They wouldn't wake up."
"I see, I see...well, I can tell you one thing. They aren't dead, nor are they going to die, and their injuries are treatable." The healer said.
Vee's eyes widened. "I-Injuries?!"
"Well, I'm only making an assumption about how said injuries got there. They looked like slashes, but like FIRE attacked them...I'm going to assume they were attacked." The healer said.
Luz's eyes widened and she went still, frozen and nearly as cold as ice.
Hunter stepped forward. "...I...I did notice something. Their eyes are orange. That's not normal."
The healer nodded. "Yes. My best way of putting this? If they were attacked, then their attacker put them both into a coma with dark magic."
"A c-coma?" Vee asked. "C-Can you-"
"We are doing everything we can, ma'am. We just have to find out what happened to them as well, but our spells are already healing their injuries." The healer said.
Luz was still frozen for a while before she moved, looking at the healer. "T-Thank you..."
The healer nodded. "We'll call you the moment we have progress."
Luz nodded slowly again before the three slowly left the temple, with Luz clutching her fist when they went outside. She then used something she wasn't very good with.
An Oracle Spell. One that would allow her to look into the past.
Hunter's eyes widened. "Luz...?"
"Whoever harmed the love of my life and my son is going to PAY." Luz growled, sounding legitimately intimidating. And Luz was NEVER like that since Belos died.
Vee stepped forward a bit, taking out her own staff. A few days ago, Luz had given her one with her own Snake Palisman. His name was Skales. "M-Maybe I can help...? I-I was always decent with Oracle Magic..."
Luz didn't hear her at first, with her spell failing. She then stepped back and let Vee take her place. Vee set the bottom of her staff against the ground and focused.
Then? A orb/screen formed in front of them. Vee focused more and more before? The screen showed something.
A portal in the sky right above their home, and SOMEONE crashing right through and into the forest. Vee couldn't hold the spell for long, since she was no master at Oracle Magic, and grunted. "T-That's as far as I can go..."
"Wait. Go back." Hunter said.
Vee focused again and went back to the mysterious someone going through the portal.
"Pause it. Try and zoom in." Hunter said, as if he was telling Vee to zoom in on an image on a computer.
Vee nodded and slowly zoomed in on the image, and since it was magic? It was perfectly clear. It showed a woman in dark armor, wearing a cape and a strange helmet. The helmet itself had MULTIPLE orange eyes, with only two of them being blue and green.
"What the hell is that...?" Hunter breathed.
Luz stepped forward. "I...I don't know...she looks like a human?"
"Kinda...?" Vee asked. "Wait...Hunter, you said their eyes were orange! Look at this thing!"
"Orange eyes." Hunter said. "For some reason...this can't be a coincidence. Looks like they were attacked after all."
Luz clenched her fist. "Then let's find her."
They all went back to the portal, going through and back to their home. They flew around, now looking for clues. A trail or ANYTHING that could lead them to this mysterious and demonic looking human.
But the moment they arrived, Vee's ears twitched and her staff slithered. "Skales says something's wrong..."
"Why? Everything looks normal-" Hunter said before he was suddenly whipped across the air and down the hill their house lived on. He quickly flew back up, using his staff.
Then? A GIANT monster stepped out of the shadows. He wore armor, a crown with an orange eye at its center. He had long white hair and beard, with blue flesh...if they could call it flesh. He was a...newt?
Vee and Luz quickly took out their staffs, with Luz's eyes still wide. "Who the heck are you?!"
The newt chuckled. "Witches! Haven't seen any of those in a while!" He then took out a sword handle, which suddenly ignited in orange energy. He then swung his sword, sending an orange energy burst at Vee and Luz, who just barely managed to dodge.
Hunter then flew over, spinning around his staff and sending out a giant burst of red fire. The newt king growled and swung his sword, slicing the burst in half before punched across the face by Hunter, who had taken form as a red blur almost.
The newt tumbled down, barely managing to roll back onto his feet. He then smirked, igniting his sword again. "You're very tough for a little guy...or perhaps that's because I'm not even TRYING!" He cried, slashing Hunter with his sword.
Hunter tumbled down into a tree, with Luz and Vee sending golden and blue energy blasts towards the newt king.
The newt king created a shield, barely able to protect himself from the blasts. Luz then rose her hand, tying up the newt's arms and legs with rows upon rows of vines. Vee then slammed her staff down against the ground, causing a pillar made from the very earth they walked on to uppercut him.
He ROARED before breaking free of the vines and swinging his sword multiple times, sending out energy burst after energy burst. His sword was definitely a handy weapon, and not so easy to fight due to its size. Which made sense considering the enormous height of the newt.
The burst hit Luz, but Vee just barely dodged again before realizing the sword had magic. And being a Basilisk, she was a bit of an expert.
She used her staff to fly over and then shapeshifting into her true form, landing on a tree branch nearby.
The newt king's eyes widened. "What the?!"
Vee opened her mouth, quickly absorbing all of the magic in Andrias' sword, causing it to become more of a flamethrower than a sword, flames shooting out everywhere until it was now just a useless handle.
The newt chuckled. "Impressive." He smirked before slamming his fist into the tree branch, causing Vee to fall.
Vee quickly shapeshifting into her 'human' form and flew back up into the air, blasting at the newt again.
The newt merely just raised his arm, blocking the blast. He then grabbed his shield and rose his arm, bashing it into Vee.
Vee cried out, falling onto the ground. She struggled to get up before Luz got in front of her and sent out a devastating blast of light.
The newt cried out in pain, backing up as he crossed his arms to send a defense. But then, someone else crawled from the shadows, charging towards the group.
Hunter got up, zooming over to Luz and holding up his staff to block a sudden attack from the newcomer.
The newcomer itself seemed to be some kind of blueish green frog like robot of some kind, with construction parts keeping him intact. He had a saw blade for a foot, some kind of nail gun on his shoulder, and a yellow claw on his second arm. His eyes glowed a bright orange before he pulled his claw back and blasted Hunter with his nail gun.
Hunter slammed his staff down, quickly creating a forcefield around him and Luz.
The robot cackled, walking over next to the newt. He then bowed. "My lord Andrias..."
Andrias smirked, still having his shield in arm. "Cloaker! I like the new upgrades."
Cloaker chuckled. "Why thank you...where are we?"
"We seem to be in the future... In a different place...it appears our lord has lost." Andrias said.
Cloaker narrowed his eyes. "I see...well, why don't we change that?"
"Straight into it without any motivation! This is why I like you!" Andrias laughed, stomping forward and smashing at the forcefield while Cloaker blasted at it.
Hunter grunted in pain and exhaustion. "I-I CAN'T KEEP THIS UP FOREVER...!"
Luz quickly tried to think of a plan before seeing Vee sneak up on both Cloaker and Andrias. She smirked and turned to Hunter. "Just keep it up for a little longer!"
Andrias then decided he was done with it and grabbed the forcefield like a ball and THREW it, sending Luz and Hunter flying.
Vee blinked. "U-Uh oh..." She gulped, flying after them with her staff.
Andrias chuckled. "Guess I've still got a bit of a throw in-" His eyes then glowed orange. "...our lord is here too. Looks like we're already fulfilling her orders."
Cloaker nodded with a cackle, speeding off with Andrias behind him. This was going to be fun.
