Chapter 9
Third point of view
It was a normal day when it happened. The rays of the sun were shining on her face as she was on an island in the Caribbean enjoying the warm sun and cool breeze on the beach side when her entire life changed. One minute she was sipping on a "sex on the beach" and the next she was feeling something she never felt before. She knew something was happening but she couldn't figure out what.
She gripped her glass tighter as she felt a weird sensation in her chest. It was odd, it felt painful at first but after a while it felt better. The odd sensation started traveling towards her hands, to her feet and eventually to her entire body. She felt overwhelmed by this mysterious feeling. As it consumed every inch of her body until her body no longer felt like hers. She fainted shortly after.
Beep, beep, beep is what she heard as she awoke. She slowly raised up from the bed and realized that she was in her room, in the house she owned near the beach. She looked around trying to recall what had previously happened.
"Amanda?!", she called out, she felt confused as to where the bubbly girl went. She was surprised she wasn't by her side already.
" Yes, your majesty?", she answered. Slowly coming into the room.
"What happened to me, why did I pass out?". She questioned.
"Umm-I-I don't know, your majesty". Amanda answered timidly.
"Amanda spit it out". She replied feeling impatient. To change the topic Amanda quickly drifted to say, "The council is here".
"What, why?". Another set of confusion arose in her mind.
"They called an emergency meeting, they are right outside and they will come in soon but I overheard them saying something about the activation of the gene."
"What?", She said quickly.
She didn't get a response as a group of men and women barged in the door.
"We are sorry for bargaining in your Majesty but this is urgent. As you know, you are our queen and we are connected to your direct lifeline so anything drastic that happens to you we will feel. We felt something change this morning. It was a weird sensation, different from anything we felt before and so we think our broken genes were altered somehow."
"Yes, It was a weird sensation and it caused me to black out, do you know what's causing this?
"No, which is why we are keeping an emergency meeting immediately, to get to the bottom of this. We will give you privacy, so please your majesty, get ready in ten minutes."
She hurriedly got out of bed and immediately threw on some proper clothes and went to the dining area where the meeting was currently being held. Seated at a long table were 20 persons, ranging from young to old, sipping on wine, water and talking on their gadgets. When they saw the queen they immediately got up to bow and said "Welcome, your majesty". She signaled for them to sit down and then she joined them. They sat down for hours trying to decipher what was happening to them.
It was abnormal to her that the council thought that something could be wrong with the broken gene because she knew that she didn't have any powers and as a result the people of her lifeline didn't receive the gift unlike her twin sister, and her people . Who had received the gift of all elements and more and as of such her lifeline was cherished. She and her sister had their own worlds that they governed and while her's was boring, filled with the silence of life ,her sister's world was filled with life source, power and adventure. Growing up she was always jealous of her other half however the older she got, the more she grew to accept her fate.
The broken gene was what the healers told her when she was old enough to know what was going on. When she was growing up, she often wondered why her sister had all these cool powers and she didn't have any, as a child she didn't really mind. But by the time she was a teenager she had turned into a rebel, going against anything and everything anyone said especially her twin sister but everyone knew it was just a coping mechanism. The healers told her that she wasn't going to live very long and even if she did it she wouldn't have any powers. It was quite unfair yes but as she said before she learned to accept it.
Which is why she was quite nervous now, she knew that something was happening and if she were getting powers, even though she doubted it, she didn't think it was going to be any good. She told herself that she would stay in her world and she wanted nothing to do with powers or her sister but it seems fate had other plans. It was obvious that this meeting was getting nowhere. She sighed because she knew what she had to do. She had to contact her sister.
Talk about the worst day of her life, she hasn't spoken to her sister in over 20 millennia and she didn't even know if she was going to answer her call but she would still try. She felt the necklace that has been around her neck that she never takes off since her sister gave it to her many years ago. She pressed it for 10 seconds then let go then pressed it 10 seconds again. If she is still listening she will receive the signal immediately. She had to use this method to call her sister if she ever really needed her because well, she couldn't magically summon her. She was only yet again reminded of how normal she was. She sighed for the second time today. It is going to be a long day, she thought.
It wasn't long before her sister appeared out of nowhere, she could feel her presence any time she was near so she knew she was behind her without having to turn around.
"Well, well, well, look who it is, beautiful as always sister,". She said as she turned around.
"Thank you Eudoxia it is good to see you, I see you don't look a day older"
"As you do Fae, I'm glad you're enjoying your life, beaches are nice I guess, we can try it out sometime, you know. I have something like a beach in my world in the water kingdom Meropian." her sister boasted.
"Yes, that sounds nice," Fae answered.
"So, how have you been in the past, " Eudoxia thought for a minute. "Ahh yes, 20 thousand years?"
"I have been well thank you, but as you know, I only call for emergencies and I wouldn't call if I had any other choice. "
Eudoxia made a face but then proceeded to ask her sister what the problem was. She however suspected that it had something to do with those human boys that entered her world. Ever since they showed up, it has been a complete chaos in her kingdom. The council informed her that a boy named Kyle passed the Mushroom test, annoying, but it wouldn't be a problem. They could've just buried him in work and made him forget about the other world but he came with a friend, a friend that refuses to leave, a friend that supposedly heard a voice telling him to come here. When she heard, she was a bit scared for a second because she suspected that he was the chosen one.
The bridge between two worlds, but that was impossible, she ensured that she watched over the man with the gene, all of his offspring's life source genes were dormant, she knew because she checked herself. It was impossible, she just needed to calm down and hear what her sister had to say, maybe she wasn't even going to tell her about that. She was just being paranoid. She thought. She finally gave her full attention to her sister that was about to speak.
Fae proceeded to explain about how she was on the beach the day before doing absolutely nothing but enjoying her time when she felt something move in her, it was painful at first but it eventually felt better, almost like a power was coursing through her veins. But that was impossible. Her council members felt it too and got here as quickly as they could. However, she was the only one that passed out. Which is why she had to call her sister to see if she knew what was going on.
Eudoxia was hoping she wouldn't say what she just did but her greatest fear was coming through. Her gene was activated and it was not good.
Faeryn watched her sister try to control her breathing, she didn't seem shocked, more like sad. There were moments where her sister was easy to read but at this moment her face was showing a mixture of emotions. She couldn't read her at all.
"Fae, I have to tell you something, you remember when we were being created and our creator gave us our life source well some of it went into someone somehow. I know, it sounds off but let me explain.
You know that there was just one world, but we fought over the fact that some people had powers and some didn't so our creator decided to split our world or create another replica of Astralda and we, inturn, got to rule our own world.
" Why are you telling me this? I was there, I remember."
"Will you let me finish? Anyway, as I was saying when this was happening a nosy human was nearby and I felt his presence and so I lost focus for a second and sent some of the power to him. I didn't tell anyone, I just scanned him for power and I realized he had a mixture of both our genes but it was somehow dormant. He just had your lifeline in him. So I didn't say anything about it. I just watched his kids and their kids and so on and none of them activated the gene until now I guess. "
When Eudoxia finished speaking she looked her sister in the eye to see her reaction but she had an impassive look on her face. That was something she always envied about her sister, her ability to not show the emotions that she was feeling on her face.
"What does this mean, am I going to get powers, how did the gene even activate?"
"Yes I think you are going to get powers and as for how it activated. I suspect someone from my world helped your human boy to do it, but Fae, you know that it might hurt you."
"Wow, you're not even happy that I'm getting the powers I deserved for years now. You kept this information from me, knowing how much it would've meant to me. Just because you're selfish. You just have to get everything right?"
"You don't understand, it's going to hurt you, you can die Faeryn."
Despite the constant warnings of her sister. Fae still refused to listen. She felt betrayed by her sister and so she got angrier the more they spoke.
Fae was shouting at her sister so she didn't notice that she created a storm.
"Fae stop, your powers are getting out of control", her sister shouted.
Her sister however still wouldn't listen. The angrier she got, the more the thunder rolled and the lightning flashed. Soon it started raining blood and that was Eudoxia knew that her sister was going to be more powerful than her but she was still shocked somehow. She opened a portal to her world and dragged her sister there with her.
There Eudoxia tried calming down her sister, telling her words of encouragement to stop the chaos she created. It was her fault she knew it and so she would do everything in her power to ensure that her sister was safe even if it meant taking away her powers. So when her sister wasn't looking, she tried seeking up on her and injected her with a syringe with a strange liquid inside to dampen her powers. However, due to Fae's new powers she could sense what her sister was doing and she blasted her sister in the air before Eudoxia got a chance to inject her. She opened a portal out of thin air and jumped through.
Eudoxia had fallen to the ground by now and was amazed by her sister's ability to manipulate her powers so easily and so quickly and not to mention she could open a portal out of thin air unlike her, who had to use some sort of device. That was when she truly realized how powerful her sister was.
" Shit", she thought.
