New Kid
It was the middle of my senior year of high school, and I was falling asleep in math class again. Math was my first class of the day, and I could never manage to stay awake while the teacher rambled on about complicated math formulas.
"Jessica! Jessica!!"
My eyelids fluttered open, and I saw the teacher standing in front of my desk with her hands on her hips.
Why did my desk have to be in the front of the room? My math teacher always caught me falling asleep in her class.
"I'm so sorry, Mrs. Green! I promise never to fall asleep in your class again," I said quickly before she could lecture me.
"You say that every time," Mrs. Green said while sighing. "Anyway...class, we have a new kid and I want you all to welcome him."
I was confused. Who would change schools in the middle of their senior year? Apparently, I wasn't the only one thinking this. I heard people whispering to each other, asking each other why a kid would transfer schools in the middle of their senior year.
"Class!," the teacher said, making everyone silent. "I said WELCOME him, not whisper about him behind his back!," Mrs. Green lectured.
Everyone in the class sighed and said said as Mrs. Green taught us to say in a monotone voice:
"Welcome to the class of 2017."
I started looking around, trying to search for a new face in this classroom.
"Well, Issac...why don't you stand up and introduce yourself? Tell us something interesting about yourself?," the teacher asked the new kid.
My eyes widened as I heard the new kid's name. It couldn't be the same Issac, could it?
The new kid stood up, and I smiled as I saw him: the same Issac that told me I was beautiful.
"Uh....hello, my name is Issac Thompson. Something interesting about me is...um....I really like photography," Issac said, nervously fiddling with his hands.
"That's awesome! If you like photography, you should join our school's photography club!," Mrs. Green said enthusiastically.
"Cool. I'll check it out," Issac said, sitting back down.
After class, everyone started walking out of the room. I was deciding if I should talk to him or not when I accidentally tripped somebody. It was Issac.
"Oh shit, Issac...I'm so sorry," I apologized.
"No, I'm sorry. I'm so freaking clumsy. I should have watched where I was going," he said, getting up from the ground.
When he got up, he smiled when he realized it was me.
He smiled from ear to ear, and his eyes twinkled with joy.
I couldn't help but smile with him. His smile was contagious.
