Getting the Girls back Together
Waking up at the ass crack of dawn and getting dragged out to some obstacle course, is not what I had on the agenda for this lovely Black Friday morning. Unfortunately, that's exactly what's happening. Instead of staying in bed all day, since I have no money to shop, I had to get out of bed, put on all black, and be picked up by some charter bus that has whisked us away to some God forsaken obstacle course. And to make matters just that much worse, on our way up here, old man Roberts, told us that this is a team building exercise. Meaning we have to partner up and be all buddy buddy.
The only person I'd even feel remotely comfortable trusting my life with, is Sang. And she's only talking to me when it's absolutely necessary. I don't understand why she won't just accept my apology already! I said I was sorry like 50 times! Why does she need to know what it was about? It was stupid, I get that, I'd rather not have to relive it!
"Alright, is everyone paired up?" Dr. Roberts asks as he stands in front of us at the start of the course.
I naturally gravitated towards Sang as soon as we stepped off the bus, glaring at anyone who tried to asked her to partner with them. I'd rather not lose, but if I'm going down, at least I'll have her with me.
"Ok, let me explain the course to you. There are 6 different obstacles that you will have to beat, in order to get to the end. First, both you and your partner have to make it through the rope maze; where you each will be holding onto one side of a piece of rope, guiding it through the wall maze, and bringing it out on the other side. The second, is the tire swing. You both have to traverse through a jungle of differently spaced tire swings without touching the ground.
For the third challenge, you must crawl under the rope net, leading you to the fourth obstacle, the rope climb. You and your partner, must help each other climb up the wall using the single rope provided, and go down the other side. You will then run to the fifth obstacle, where you will crawl through twin tubing, and out the other side. For the sixth and final obstacle, you and your partner, must walk along a balance beam and capture the flag on the other side.
To make things interesting, the team with the fastest time, will get to go home tonight. While the rest of you, will stay out here, with me, and talk about your feelings."
Oh God! He did not just say what I think he said. Stay out here!? With him? Feelings!? Oh no, we have to win. I look over at Sang, and she hasn't even batted an eyelash at his statement. Probably because I'm her partner. Although I doubt Sang would throw this just to get back at me. Or would she?
"Who's up first?" Dr. Roberts asks the group.
"We'll go." Sang volunteers.
No we won't!
"Oh no Sang, I want you two to go last." He tells her.
Well that was close. I wonder why he doesn't want us going?
"Sang." I hiss. "Why would you volunteer for us to go first?"
"To get it done. Doesn't really matter to me if we stay out here."
"Um, I do."
She just shrugs and crosses her arms, looking at the girl and guy who were chosen to go first. We've got to win, there's no way I'm staying out here tonight. What can I do to get her to see that we need to be the fastest? Maybe tell her what she wants to know. My conscious supplies for me.
"Sang, do you hate me?" I ask her with a pout.
"Stop being so melodramatic Kayli." She says with an eye roll.
"You really wanna know what happened, don't you?"
"I have the right to know why you attacked me and my friends, don't I?"
"Jade and her skank squad caught me kissing Axel outside of our dorm. She tried to get all uppity on me and called me a slut. And then seeing you laying with Sean looking all happy when I know you're close to some of his other friends, and had a date with Victor and Owen. I don't know, it got me mad. I just exploded, and that wasn't fair to you. You have to know that I don't really think that about you. I'm so so sorry Sang."
She looks thoughtful for a moment before giving me a side glance, still watching the others go through the course. It looks pretty difficult, I'm glad Sang has been paying attention.
"You have to apologize to the boys. They didn't deserve you anger."
"Of course." I say feeling hopeful. "As soon as we get back to campus."
"Then get your words ready, because we're getting back there tonight." She says with a grin. "I have a date with Owen that I don't plan on missing."
"So you forgive me?" I ask her with wide eyes.
"Yes Kaylibell." She says with a smile.
"Oh yay!" I say while hugging her. "I get my Sangirella back!"
"And just in time too. Because ladies, you're up!" Dr. Roberts announces.
"Ready to kick butt?" Sang asks me.
"Born ready." I tell her with a wink.
We walk up to the starting line and once Dr. Roberts says go, we're off. We pick up the rope and Sang easily guides us through the maze, without any hiccups. We're off to the tire swing and I see what he meant by "differently spaced". Some of these swings are like 4 feet apart! Of course this doesn't stop Sang. She easily picks the tire swings and uses the distance to her advantage; she uses the swing as an actual swing and jumps from one to another. She's like a spider monkey! I easily copy her movements, with a little slip, but manage to keep up for the most part.
We zoom under the rope net and go straight to the rope climb. I start this one, to help Sang to the top, since she doesn't have as much upper body strength. When I get to the top, Sang is half way up, and as soon as she's close enough, I grab her hand and pull her up the rest of the way. The back half of the wall is sloped, so we slide down and run over to the tubes. Sang tells me to follow behind her in the tube; when we get out I see why. The other tube is closed! That trickster. On the last obstacle, our balance and agility come in handy. We steadily cross the beam and grab the flag, jumping for joy. Finally, Sang and Kayli are back together and rocking it.
