Chapter 41: Solitude

Monday

**Victor**

I never thought I'd be happy the weekend was over! On Friday I received the unfortunate news that I was needed back home to fulfill one of the commitments I'd made as a condition to my parents letting me move out before I turned 18. The agreement stated that I was to return home for any 3 engagements my parents wanted me to play at until I turned 21. I hated having to return to that life, but the freedom it provided was well work 3 gigs a year.

I hadn't gotten to see my Princess since last Thursday, and today I would finally be able to lay my eyes on her once again and hear that beautiful laugh of hers.

Walking into our Japanese class with a spring in my step, I looked over to our usual spot to find her with her head in a book. Her long hair piled high on her head in a messy bun. The Pink sweater hanging off one shoulder, showing the thin strip of a black tank top underneath. I couldn't see her legs, as they were hidden under the desk, but if I had to guess, I'd say she was wearing athletic pants of some type. We sure brought her enough of them. It brings a smile to my face to see her dressed in things that I bought for her.

"Take a seat please Mr. Morgan." Professor Bell's voice startles me out of my head.

Sang lifts her head to looks at the door, a blinding smile taking over her features as she looks at me. I send her my own shy smile as I walk over and take my seat next to her.

"Alright class, books away and desks cleared. It's time for your midterm. The first half will be 25 written questions. The first 15 will be multiple choice, the last 10 fill in the blank. The second half will be a short conversation with Dr. Green outside in the hallway. Once you are done with your test, you are free to leave. You may begin once you receive your paper."

So much for spending time with Princess.

********

The test was easy enough, I was used to the Doc spouting random things in Japanese when referring to his parents, or if he was really agitated. Suffice to say I was well versed in the language. Unfortunately, that meant that I finished before Sang. She was just handing in her written portion when I went back inside to grab my bookbag.

I whispered to her that I'd be waiting for her outside when she was done. She gave me that amazing smile again and nodded her head.

Turns out that I didn't have to wait long. Only another 10 minutes or so before I saw her bright happy face walking out of the language building. Kota had met up with me while I was waiting since his class usually ends before ours. His Bio professor just had them go over the material for the first part of their midterm on Wednesday.

Sang came walking over to, smile still firmly in place, and gave us both a kiss on the cheek when she stopped in front of us.

"So, what's the pla-"

"Sorenson!" A loud female voice calls across the quad, stopping Sang mid-sentence.

We look to where the voice is coming from, to see team leads Jackie Stewart and Samantha Brookes with their full teams, and a timid girl I don't recognize, standing off to the side. I look to Kota and raise my eyebrow in question, wondering if he knows why they're calling Sang. His gaze is just as curious as mine and it's darting between Sang and the group of girls.

"Sang?" Kota asks.

"I-"

"Let's go Sorenson!" Samantha interrupts her.

"Sorry guys." Sang says with a frown. "I gotta go."

Sang gives us a small smile and a half wave before hiking her bag further up her shoulder and jogging over to the group of girls. She settles in next to the one I don't recognize, before Jackie rolls her eyes at the two, leading the whole group away.

"What the hell was that all about?" I ask Kota.

"I don't know, but I'm going to find out."

**Marc**

Ugh! I fucking hate Raven! The big Russian idiot! He has no idea how hard it is to have to stay away from Kayli. They don't even have any classes together, which makes not seeing or talking to her a bit easier than the rest of us. Come to think of it, he really is the only one who doesn't have any classes with her. He doesn't even live in the dorms so he doesn't have to worry about bumping into her in the halls!

Ugh! Damn him! And damn Axel and Brandon too! What the hell made them think it was ok to let him make a bet with North that included all of us!? He should've known that anything could happen in a football game! Especially with the Giants on a big losing streak! They had something to prove! Of course, they were gonna give it their all. **Sidenote, again I have no football knowledge and have no idea if this is true, but it makes sense for me so I'm gonna roll with it. Carry on :)**

Fucking idiots! The whole lot of em! Because of them, me and Corey had to get to class right before it started so that we'd have a legitimate reason as to why we couldn't sit next to her. I supposed the midterm helped us out a bit. Kayli doesn't do good with tests so of course we finished before her, but we had to ignore all of her texts once she was done. Ugh! She's gonna think we're not into her anymore. This could not get any worse. Idiots!

Tuesday

**Lucian**

"Hey Cupcake," I whisper to Sang, "Think we can hang out after the midterm?"

Yes, I'm talking during a test, sue me! You would too if you haven't had any alone time with your girlfriend in days. That's what she is right? My girlfriend? Maybe I should ask her if that's what we are? Her nine boyfriends...sounds like the title to an adult anime haha.

"Cupcake?" I try again.

"Shhh." Kota whispers over to me.

Ugh, leave it to Kota to be the party pooper. At least he has multiple classes he can see Sang in. I only have this one, and I'll be damned if I'm not going to use it to my advantage. Midterm or no midterm.

"Cupcake." I sing-song.

Ha! My efforts are not in vain, there's a smile!

"10 just answer him." Kota whispers to her.

Ha, he's finally on my side.

"Can't I'm busy after." She replies in a low voice.

"Aww come on."

"Luke, she said she's busy. Now get back to your test before you get us all throw out before we finish." Kota hisses under his breath.

"Fine." I pout.

This won't be the last you hear from Lucian Taylor! Hey, Cupcake, where you going? Sang just got up out of her seat. Oh, I guess she's done. She sends me a sheepish smile after she hands in her test and walks out the door. I wonder what's got her so busy? Victor says she ran off after her midterm yesterday too.

"Hey Kota," I whisper, "Do you know where Sang's going?"

"No," He whispers back. "Now finish your test."

He gets up shortly after that and walks to the front of the room, handing in his test. I finish working out the problems to the last couple questions and hand in my test as well. I wonder if I can get Victor to hack her phone so we can know where she is...

**Brandon**

I wonder how much my grade would go down if I skipped today's midterm. This is the only thing on my mind as I'm walking out of my Geometry class. We just had a midterm in there too, but the midterm itself isn't the problem. The people inside the class however, are. Or should I say person, as in singular, as in female, as in Kayli. Ever since Raven made that stupid bet with North we've been forced to ignore her. And she doesn't even know why.

I know by now she's figured out that something's up. Her 15 messages from last night that have been left unanswered told me that she suspects something. If the rest of the guys are ignoring her messages like I am, I can only wonder what she thinks is going on.

I grab a bite to eat before meeting up with Marc. I know him and Corey had a test with Kayli yesterday, I wonder how that turned out.

"Hey man." I greet as I walk into his room.

"Hey. You ready for this?"

"Is it gonna be that bad?"

"I had to block her number just so I wouldn't have to get all of the messages she's undoubtedly sending after me and Corey basically shunned her yesterday." He says as he shakes his head.

"How'd you manage?"

"We came in right before the start of class, managed to finish our tests before her. Booked it out of there."

"Damn, alright. So, what do we do? Go in early and let the seats fill up around us, or go in right before the start?"

"She'll probably expecting the latter after yesterday. I think early might be the best way to go, you know how she likes to sleep in as late as she can."

"Alright, then let's get going."

We grab our stuff and head off to the science building. We're about 15 minutes early so we're the first ones there. We walk up to the middle of the steps in the lecture hall and slide all the way into the middle of the row. A major difference from where we usually are, in the back row on the edges with Kayli.

The time goes by fast enough, and the lecture hall starts to fill up. The seats around us get taken, a couple minutes before class starts Kayli walks in. We see her walk in, anger clearly written on her face. She looks up towards where we usually sit, and confusion covers her face. She quickly scans the rest of the seats and sees us smack dab in the middle, surrounded on all sides. That confusion then turns to anger before she stomps over to the stairs, and surprises the hell out of me by taking a seat in the front row.

This is going to be a long week.

Wednesday

**Owen**

As I look over the classroom, I see that Sang is just about done with her test. I've had quite a few of the boys come up to me this week about Sang's odd behavior, and it's only Wednesday. Thinking I could use this time to catch her alone, I slip out of the room before she hands in her test.

I don't have to wait for her long. About a minute after I leave, she's walking out with her bag on her shoulder and a frown on her face. I immediately tense, hating to see her upset, and take a few deep breaths to calm myself. She's so lost in her own thought that she almost walks right by me, and I almost let her.

"Was the midterm not to your liking Miss Sorenson?" I ask, startling her.

Her bright green eyes jump up to mine and the sadness on her face is replaced by confusion.

"I'm sorry?"

"The test? I couldn't help but realize you weren't smiling when you walked out of the room. Do you feel like you didn't pass?"

"Oh," The confusion clears up, but I still don't get the joy I was hoping for. "That's not it, I-"

She cuts herself off when another student walks out of the classroom, the frown returning to her face.

"Why don't we step over here and talk." I suggest, motioning down the hall a bit.

She says nothing, just follows behind me silently. I've never seen her this upset, no, she's not upset, she seems more...worn down. I wonder what's been keeping her so occupied.

"Miss Sorenson is everything ok?"

"Everything's fine Mr. Blackbourne." She replies, not meeting my eyes.

"Sang?" This catches her attention. Her eyes drift up to mine before shifting to the side. "What's going on?"

"I'm just a little tired Owen, that's all."

"Have you not been getting enough sleep?"

"No, I sleep fine." She says with a small shake of her head.

"Then what is it? Some of the boys have addressed their concern for you, and after seeing you right now I'm inclined to agree with them. You aren't your normal self."

"I'm fine Owen really, just a little" she pauses and rolls her head back to the sky. "Overwhelmed." She finishes on a sigh.

Her hand goes into the pocket of her track pants and pulls out her cell phone. Whatever is on the screen is clearly related to why she's been so tired.

"I'm sorry Owen, I have to go. Please tell the guys not to worry about me, I'm fine."

She goes en-pointe and places a light kiss on my cheek before turning and walking down the hallway, and out of the building. Something is definitely going on with her, but I'll wait for her to tell me what it is. I'd hate to seem like an overbearing boyfriend. Hmm, boyfriend...that has a nice ring to it.

**Axel**

I finished my test a few minutes before Sang did, but wanted to give Owen sometime with her. I know that he doesn't get to see her as often as some of the other might. Not to mention she didn't seem to be her usual happy self. She wasn't as bad as when she had that fight with Kayli, but she wasn't happy either.

After about 5 minutes, I get up and hand in my test before walking out of the door. Owen is standing on the opposite side of the hallway, watching Sang as she walks out of the doors. His face is as unreadable as ever, but I know he must be worried about her.

"Owen? Is everything alright?"

"Everything's fine Axel." He says as he turns to me. "Besides, shouldn't I be asking you that? It was your team that lost the bet."

"True," I say with a grimace, "But Sang doesn't seem as happy as she normally is. If I can't talk to my girlfriend, the least I can do is worry about yours."

"She tells me she's fine..."

"And you don't believe her?"

"She said she's just tired. I'll give it a few more days, it could just be the stress of midterms."

"But you don't believe that?"

He narrows his eyes in my direction, "Is there a reason you're out here instead of moving on to your next class Mr. Toma?"

"Alright, alright." I laugh, "I get it. No need to go all old man on me. I'm avoiding having to sit next to Kayli in our next class. I figure if I can't talk to her, the best thing for me would be to be as far away as possible."

"Isn't that a little cowardly?"

"Absolutely, but you've never been on the receiving end of a Kayli rage fit."

"Ah yes, after seeing what it can do to her best friend, I'd hate to see the outcome of one towards her boyfriend."

"Tell me about it." I huff, "Wish me luck."

I check my watch and see that I have about 10 minutes to make it to my next class, so I hurry across the quad and make it there with a few minutes to spare. When I walk into the lecture hall, I see Kali sitting in the last row at the back in the aisle seat, with her bag in the chair next to her. Since she normally sits between me and Marc, I'm going to assume that seat isn't saved for one of us. Marc is sitting on the opposite side of the hall gazing at Kayli forlornly, I know exactly how he feels. We gotta find a way to get out of this bet.
