Chapter 4: Date Night
**Kayli**
When I get back to my room I find Sang laying on her bed with this cute little girl on her face. I guess her talk with prince charming went well.
"Hey Sang, what's the smile about?" I ask her.
"Victor asked me out...well kinda...I think..." her grin morphed into a small pout at her confusion.
"Sang, you're confusing me. What exactly did Victor say?"
"Well he asked what I was doing tonight, and when I told him I was staying in he asked me to go out with him tonight. When I asked if it was a date he said that if I wasn't comfortable with that then we could just consider it two friends hanging out. And then when I asked what to wear, he told me to dressed comfortably and not to feel any pressure because it wasn't a date." She rambles.
I go and sit on my chair by my desk.
"Sounds like he wanted it to be a date but he wasn't sure if YOU wanted it to be a date." I tell her.
She ponders this for a moment before responding, "Why would he think I wouldn't want it to be a date?"
"I don't know." I say shrugging. "Did you explain to him about why you ran last night?"
"Yea, I told him how I didn't have any friends growing up because of my mom."
"Well then he probably just connected the dots from you not having any friends to never having gone on a date either. He probably just didn't wanna pressure you into anything. Would you feel comfortable going out with Victor alone even though it's not technically a date?"
"I'm not sure..." she says hesitantly.
"How about this." I start telling her, "Marc wants to hang out tonight, how about you and Victor tag along. That way you're not alone with him and you're more comfortable; and if at any time you decide that you do want to be alone with him all you have to do is tell me and I'll make it happen."
"Really?" she asks me, "You'd seriously give up a date with Marc just to make me comfortable?"
"I'm not giving it up." I scoff, "I'm just offering up the opportunity to grill potential suitors. Truthfully you'd be doing me a favor by making sure his intentions are pure." I say giving her smile that tells her this offer is more for her benefit than mine. She jumps off her bed to tackle me on my chair in a hug.
"Thank you Kayli! You are the best roommate a girl could ask for."
"Hey!" I say mocking offense, "I better be more than that if I'm giving up a date for you." I laugh.
"So much more!" she says giggling. "You're the sister I wish I had!"
"Don't you have a sister?" I feign confusion, of course I know she has a sister. It's that fact that she prefers me to her actual sister that has my heart growing.
"That's my point!" she says still giggling. By now she's detached herself from my limbs and is sitting on her beloved window seat.
"What room is Victor in?" I ask her, "I'll go tell him and Marc the change of plans while you go find us breakfast."
"Ok, he's in 315." she says while walking to the door after grabbing money from her drawer. "Thanks again for this Kayli, I mean it."
"Yea, yea." I say getting up to follow her out, "You can thank me by feeding me." I say while closing the door behind us and walking down the hall.
"One of everything coming up!" she calls out to me while walking the opposite way laughing.
That girl knows me too well. I may be slim but I can pack down just as much as any guy.
Once I get to their door I knock quickly and wait. A boy with blue eyes and reddish brown hair answers the door; this must be the guy that Sang was telling me about after her run.
"Hi, um Nathan right?" I question.
He looks confused for a second but opens the door a little wider to lean on the door frame.
"Yeah, that's me. Who are you?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm Kayli, Sang's roommate, -"
"Kayli? What are you doing here? Is Sang ok?" Victor asks while walking into view followed shortly by Kota, both wearing worried expressions.
"Yea, guys Sang's fine. Victor, I actually came to talk to you about your date tonight." I tell him.
"Dude what?" Nathan turns around and asks Victor.
"You asked out Sang?" Asks Kota.
Well that's new, I think to myself, If I didn't know any better I'd say these two are jealous. Ya snooze ya loose boys.
"It's not a date." Victor tells them adamantly, sure it's not, I think, "This time." He finished. Thought so.
"Anywho," I say before they can start squabbling; they can argue like kids in a sandbox after I leave, "There's been a change of plans." I hold my hand up in a stopping motion once I see him try to interrupt me. "No she's not cancelling." That seems to bring relief to his face, hmm he must really like her; and if the death glares these other two are giving him are any indication they like her too. But didn't this Nathan guy just meet her this morning? "You guys are going to be joining Marc and I on our date. In case you didn't already figure it out Sang's never been on a date before so I want her to be comfortable. Not saying that she's uncomfortable around you, but I think she'd be more relaxed this way, it being her first date and all."
"Not a date." Nathan says.
Yea, sure dude. Keep telling yourself that.
"Anyway, keep it casual and be at our room at six." I say while turning to go back to our room.
"Wait." Victor says while coming out in the hallway, "Why didn't Sang tell me herself?"
"She's getting us breakfast." I tell him.
"She could've texted me." Because she has your number, geeze these boys are giving me a headache.
"She doesn't have a phone."
"She couldn't use yours?" Seriously dude!?
"I don't have one either. Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go tell my date we'll be hosting two more."
He doesn't say anything else, just gives me a nod and goes back into his room. Man these dudes are weird, Sang sure does have her work cut out for her with them.
**Kota**
As soon as Victor closes the door behind him after talking to Kayli, I stop my pacing and glare at him.
"So you asked out Sang?" I ask him.
"Yes, what concern is it of yours?" He asks back.
"You know I like her!"
"Didn't seem that way to me." He says back to me, "If you did you would've asked her out."
"I asked her to the party."
"No Marc asked Kayli to the party and brought Sang. You just happened to bump into her in the hall and found out she was going."
"You knew I was planning to ask her after class." I tell him.
"Yeah you and me both." He tells me, "I've been trying to ask her out all month. She always runs out of class."
"She has another class across campus, she likes to get a good seat." I tell him. I vaguely recognize Nathan leaving the room out of the corner of my eye but I'm too upset to really register it.
"Of course she does." He says to me with a small smile, "I wouldn't expect anything less from my Princess."
"Your Princess!? Since when do you call her Princess?!"
"Since I spoke to her earlier." He says while walking past me, "I thought she was pretty before when I first saw her in class but I was wrong. Fresh out the shower and effortlessly beautiful."
"You saw her in a towel!?" I know that I really have no right to judge since that's exactly how I bumped into her yesterday; but still, I saw her in the hallway, he was in her room!
"Saw who in a towel?" asks Nathan as he comes back into our room with a grin I can only describe as smug.
"Doesn't matter." Victor tells him while taking a seat at his desk.
"Where did you go?" I ask Nathan.
"To talk to Sang." he says smugly.
"About what?" Victor asks as he turns towards us in the chair.
"Not much," he says while shrugging and walking over to sit down on his bed, "just wanted to know if she likes to swim."
"And...." I wait for him to continue.
"We're going swimming tomorrow." He says while giving me that grin again.
Shit!
**Nathan**
While those two idiots were busy arguing I decided to take matters into my own hands and see if Sang wanted to hang out tomorrow. I remember her roommate saying that she hasn't been on a date before so I didn't want her to feel nervous or anything so I asked her if she liked to swim. It wasn't really anything new since I already offered to be her running partner. She said that she loved to swim but didn't really have much of an opportunity to check out the pool yet since she was trying to keep her studies in order. Anyway, I asked if she wanted me to show her the pool, that way she can go whenever she wanted. She told me that she'd love to see the pool, and wouldn't mind if I joined her for a swim. She said we could be swimming partners too, then she did this cute little giggle. A completely different person from the sad girl I found in the woods. Her laugh was so cute, and that smile, damn.
Kota breaks me out of my daydream about Sang by saying, "Ok look, we've been friends for years." Then he goes to sit on Victor's bed. "We're brothers guys, we can't let a girl come between us."
"She isn't, you are." I tell him. "You were just screaming at Vic because you couldn't balls up and ask her out."
"Nathan, Kota's right." Victor tells me, "Well partly. We are brothers and a girl shouldn't come between us, but who says Sang even likes any of us? Since she's never been on a date I'm gonna go ahead and assume she's never had a boyfriend either. Why don't we just take it slow, be her friend first before jumping down each other's throats about taking her on a date."
"That's easy for you to say, you've already got a date with her." Kota says to him.
"Then man up and ask her out." Victor replies, "I'm not saying we don't go out with her, I'm just saying we don't put labels on it. Don't try and force her into something she's not comfortable with. I'm pretty sure if we spend some time with her we can see who she'd prefer to date exclusively."
"And what happens if she picks one of us?" I ask Victor.
"Or none of us." Asks Kota.
"Then we respect her decision and back off. We can still be her friend without trying to be her boyfriend. She hasn't had a lot of friends in her life and I refuse to alienate her, and make her think that the only reason I'm around her is to be her boyfriend and get in her pants." says Victor.
"Victor's right." Kota agrees, "We should start out by being her friend. Even if it never goes further than that, I don't think I could just walk away completely. Something is better than nothing."
"So we're agreed?" Asks Victor.
"Agreed." Says Kota. "Nathan?"
"Yea, sure. Agreed." I say somewhat reluctantly.
At least this way I can still be around her, even if it's only as a friend...for now. Victor starts typing on his phone then gets up to go to the door.
"Where you going?" I ask him.
"I gotta pick something up." Is his only reply.
Oh shit, if I know Victor than I know exactly what he's about to go do. Kayli told him that they don't have phones, and with his seemingly unending wealth I can tell he's about to change that. Damn, I'm gonna have to step my game up if I want Sang to pick me. I don't think she'd use Victor for his money or anything but he doesn't really care about it. Whenever any of us need something he gets it, no matter the cost; and I have a feeling Sang just got added to that list.
**Marc**
After Corey and I finished breakfast there's a knock on the door. I get up to go open it and am surprised when I see Kayli on the other side, she was just here after all.
"Bambi, twice in one day! Couldn't stay away huh?" I say while leaning against the door frame, giving her a wink.
"In your dreams coffee boy," she says while rolling her eyes, "there's actually been a slight change in plans for tonight."
"Not cancelling on me are you beautiful?" I know, I'm laying it on thick, but now that I've got my date I'm not letting her back out of it.
"Why do guys always think that when we bring up something scheduled it's to cancel?"
"'Cuz it usually is."
"Then you're dating the wrong people." She tells me.
"You can say that again." I hear Corey mumble behind me.
"So what's up?" I ask her.
"Long story short Sang and Victor are going to be coming with us. He asked her out, I don't want her to feel uncomfortable on her first date. Yada yada yada, you're cool with that right?"
Not entirely, "Sure, not a problem." I tell her.
"Great, see you at six." then she turns and goes back to the stairs as I close my door.
"So sharing your date with Victor, that's gotta be a new kind of awkward." Corey says to me while I go to lay on my bed.
"Not really," I tell him, "May as well get used to it since our birds are best friends. It's not like we're enemies or anything."
Just as I finish my sentence I get an incoming text, from Victor of all people.
Victor: You busy?
Way to be vague Victor.
Marc: Nope, just in the room with Corey.
Victor: OMW.
"Victor's coming." I tell Corey.
"What for?" He asks me.
"Didn't say, guess we'll find out soon enough."
"You think Kayli likes nerds?" he asks me.
Before I can even think about why he asked that, let alone respond to it, there's a knock on the door. I stand up slightly to reach and twist the handle and in walks Victor closing the door behind himself, then leans on it with his hands in his pockets.
"Did you know that Kayli and Sang don't have phones?" He asks me.
"I knew Kayli didn't, didn't know about Sang though." I tell him.
"We're planning on being around them more right?" Corey asks us, "We should have a way to get in contact with them. They aren't always guaranteed to be in their room."
"Yea but how would they feel about us buying phones for them?" I ask.
"We could ask them." Corey says.
"Dude she was just up here; I'd feel like a stalker." I tell him.
"We could ask them tonight." Victor suggests, "See if they'd be ok with it. I'd pay for them; you guys know I don't mind."
"Yea but they don't know that." I tell him. "From what I know of Kayli, she isn't exactly use to people just getting things for her. I'm pretty sure Sang is the same way. Those two seem like they were separated at birth of something."
"They do share similar histories." Corey tells me.
"How would you know?" Victor asks him.
"Me and Brandon have Chem with Kayli, we talk through the lectures." he shrugs, "I see Sang in the library a lot, I think she works there. Any way, we talk sometimes, she's told me a little about her past. I tell her about life with Brandon." he chuckles.
"That's gotta be something, you two are polar opposites. Like North and Luke." Victor remarks.
"Yea, and you two actually share the same DNA." I include.
"Forget DNA, they shared a womb for 9 months, and still ended up on opposite sides of the spectrum."
"Only way you can tell the Henshaw twins apart," Corey starts.
"Ask one to take a bike apart." Victor and I finish in unison. Then we all start laughing.
Brandon's been into bikes his whole life, we came up with that joke for the twins when we met them as kids. After we all calm down a bit, Victor gets back to the reason he's here.
"So where are we taking them?" he asks me.
"I was thinking the normal dinner and a movie. You good with that." I tell him.
"Yea, good with me." he says, "What's out right now?"
"I figured we'd just see what's close to the time we get there." I tell him.
"Sounds good, let them pick from the options available. That was it won't seem like we're trying anything." Victor says.
"Or being bias." I include.
"Cool, so I'll see you at their room at six."
"Cool."
With that he leans off the door, opens it and leaves. I can't believe after a month of bugging Kayli in class I finally get to take her out. I can only hope it'll still be a good date with Victor and Sang there.
**Sang**
When Kayli got back to the room, she told me that both boys were ok with the change and that they would pick us up here at 6pm. It is now 5:50 and Kayli and I are giving ourselves one last look over to make sure we look presentable. I'm wearing a pink baby doll tee with light blue skinny jeans and my low top converse. Kayli is wearing a blue t-shirt with dark blue jeans and Nike sneakers. We both have our hair down with no makeup on, aside from a little lip gloss.
At exactly 6pm, as Kayli and I are picking up our bags, there's a knock on the door. As I open it to reveal Kayli and myself, I see Marc and Victor standing on the other side. Victor is the first to say something.
"Hey Sang, you look great."
"You too Kayli." Says Marc.
I take a moment to look over their outfits, Victor is wearing a white, short sleeve button down shirt, with black pants and black sneakers. How he can make something so simple look elegant is beyond me. Marc is looking rather dashing as well with a long sleeve, blue button down, with the buttons undone revealing a white ribbed tank shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers.
"Thanks," I say while looking at Victor, his fire eyes on a low simmer, "you do too."
"Yea," Kayli says from besides me as we start to walk out the door, "so where are we going?"
"Movies then dinner." Replies Marc from his place beside Kayli.
Once we get outside, I see a silver BMW parked in front of our dorm. Victor pulls a set of car keys out of his pocket and points the key fob at the car. *CLICK*
"This is your car?" I ask him in awe, aren't BMW's pretty expensive? I think to myself.
"Yea, it gets the job done." He replies while shrugging.
He opens the front passenger door for me, while Marc opens the back door for Kayli and we get it. Both boys then round the car to get in on their side; me and Kayli being of one mind beat them to it and reach across the seats to open their doors from the inside. The inside of Victor's car smells just like him, moss and berries.
"Thanks." They say in unison as they climb in.
"Buckle up Princess." Victor says while looking at me. I blush and smile at the nickname while going to buckle my seat belt.
"You too Bambi." Marc tells Kayli, while turning around to buckle himself in.
I giggle as I recall Kayli coming back from class telling me about her first run-in with Marc.
"Bambi?" Victor questions, which only makes me giggle harder and Kayli sigh in exasperation.
"Long story." Is Kayli's reply.
"We've got time." Victor tells her. I laugh again as Kayli starts telling the tale of Bambi.
By the time we arrive at the theater we're all laughing at Kayli's expense, even Kayli herself. That situation was just way too funny. We ended up seeing Captain America Civil War. We then went to dinner at Olive Garden. While waiting for our food to get to us, Victor asked what I thought of the movie. I told him I liked it but admitting to not seeing the previous ones; to which Marc started choking on his water and told me not to let Corey know that or he'd be forced to give me a "movication" whatever that is. Once our dinner arrived we fell into a comfortable silence, everyone enjoying their meal. I had the shrimp alfredo, Kayli had the lobster ravioli, Marc had the tour of Italy, and Victor had the chicken piccata.
Dinner was absolutely amazing and when the bill came Victor took care of it. I felt a little bad knowing how much my food had cost, and thought that I should at least pay my portion, but Victor shushed me and said it's just what friends do. On the drive back to campus Victor said that they had something they wanted to ask us.
"What's up?" Was Kayli's answer.
"How would you girls feel about us getting you a phone? Just to make it easier to stay in contact. We don't expect you guys to always be in your room and the campus is pretty big." says Marc.
"You wouldn't have to worry about a bill or anything either, it'd be taken care of. Think of it as a gift, one friend to another."
"I don't know many people who give phones as gifts Victor, but Sang's birthday was last week so I wouldn't object to you getting her a phone." Kayli says to Victor.
"I don't need a phone, but if I get one then so do you Kay. I'd feel less bad about it then." I tell her.
"So it's settled then," says Victor, "We'll get them to you by tomorrow."
"Victor there's no rush, really." I tell him.
"Don't worry about it Princess. This just gives me an excuse to see you again tomorrow." he tells me, sending a wink my way. I blush and turn to look out the window.
The rest of the ride back to campus is silent, Kayli and I on our way into a food coma. Once we get back to the dorms, the boys open our doors for us and walk us to our room.
"I had a really great time tonight Princess." Victor tells me.
"Victor I'm no princess, but I did too. Thank you."
"To me you are, I'm glad you had a good time Princess. Goodnight." He says, then leans in to give me a kiss on the cheek. I'm left blushing as he walks backwards with a smile on his face back to his room.
"Goodnight Prince Victor." I whisper, by the full smile I get in return I'm sure he heard it.
I turn around and walk back in the room with Kayli.
"So what'd you think of your first date?" she asks me as we get ready for bed.
"Amazing." Is my only reply as we fall asleep to the sound of our giggles.
