Chapter 36
"Luhan, please come home. We talked it out and my dad wants to apologize to you." He says as soon as I answer.
"I-I don't know-"
"Please, Luhan? I really want you guys to get along and I told you that I want you here for Christmas."
"I, I don't have any clean clothes-" I say, trying to find any excuse not to go.
"That doesn't matter, you can change when you get here."
"I, I have blood on them." I say softly.
"Are you okay? Baby, there was a lot of blood on my shirt, I wanted to come after you but I couldn't find you-"
"I'm fine, it doesn't matter, I just need clothes-"
"But it does matter, how bad is it?" He asks with worry laced in his words.
"It's fine, I just burned it-"
"On what?"
"On the stove, I accidentally set my hand on it but I'm fine." I say.
"When you where cooking? Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"No, after, it doesn't matter, I'm fine now."
"Was it my dad? Did he make you burn yourself?"
"It doesn't matter, I'm fine, I'll see if Ren has some clothes I can barrow, I'll text you when I'm coming." I say quickly and hang up before anything else starts up.
It was an accident, it was my fault if anyone was to blame. I backed up to it and set my own hand on it, it wasn't his father's fault...
"Of course I have clothes you can use! Come, you can shower and get ready and I'll make some breakfast. Baekho left for work already so you can use our shower if you want, it's bigger." He says as I follow him to his room.
"Thank you, Ren." I say as he hands me some clothes.
"It's no problem, I know you'd do the same for me." He smiles before showing me to his bathroom.
I thank him again before he leaves so I can shower. When I get out I put the dark skinny jeans he gave me on before pulling the white shirt on.
I'm glad me and Ren are the same size.
I brush my hair out before trying to clean the large burn on my hand and become worried if it will cause more problems.
I don't know how I'm going to hide it, it goes from my purlicue to the other side of my hand! I'll admit that it was hurting all last night and the warm water didn't make it feel any better.
But of course, Ren being Ren, had a first aid kit and all the supply's to help it.
When I get downstairs he makes me sit while he looks at my hand once more before putting a antibiotic on it and bandages it up for me.
"Thanks for breakfast." I say as I help wash my dish and clean up.
"Stop thanking me." He chuckles.
"Sorry for being polite." I say sarcastically making him roll his eyes.
"Are you ready?" He asks as I put the last dish in the dishwasher and slowly turn to look at him.
"I don't know, maybe I should wait a little longer-"
"No, you're not stalling any longer! We are leaving right now!" He says as he drags me out to his car.
"It's cold-"
"I'll turn the warm air on on the car."
"Can we drive by the mall-"
"For what?"
"To get a jacket?" I ask softly.
"No! You're going to go work this out, no more stalling, I watched how you slowly ate and took a long ass shower." He points out as I sigh in defeat
"Fine." I say as he backs out and begins driving to my house.
-I'm here-
I slowly text and send to Sehun as Ren drives up next to the curb.
Seconds later he comes running out to greet me as nervous butterflies fill my stomach.
"Thanks.. Bye." I say as I get out just before Sehun wraps his arms around me.
"Are you okay? I missed you so much, let me see your hand." He says as he pulls it out of my pocket.
"Sehun, I'm fine." I say as I pull it out of his hand before he can see. "Its just a little burn." I say as I put it back in my pocket.
"I'm sorry it happened at all." He says as I look over and see some of them watching us like hawks.
He moves to kiss me but I quickly stop him, unsure how they'll react.
"Luhan?" He questions, seeing it's probably the first time I've ever rejected a kiss from him.
"They're watching us." I mumble as I look down in embarrassment.
"Who cares? If I want to kiss you I'll kiss you." He announces as I roll my eyes to myself.
"I care, they don't like me enough as is, I don't want to rock the boat." I say as I stare at my feet.
He pulls my chin up and I look into his eyes before he kisses me but I quickly turn away. "I love you but please, just while they're here, don't be so lovey dovey with me. You know I love when you're like that and I'm not saying to stop forever, just when they're around."
"If that's what you want then okay." He says as he tightens his arms around me.
...
"So, what are you majoring in?" His mother asks me as I awkwardly sit next to him on the couch.
"I finished college when I was twenty three, I took classes here because I thought it would teach me something new." I say softly as his father's judging eyes watch my every move.
"But I was majoring in engineering physics. I have two masters degrees and a bachelors degree."
"And you graduated when you where twenty three?" She questions, obviously shocked.
"That's impossible-" Someone else begins.
"He graduated high school when he was fifteen." Sehun says for me, even though it was fourteen, but I'll give him credit for knowing it was around that age since I don't remember ever telling him that.
"So you're extremely smart?"
"Yeah, he is, he created the hover board that was on the news, he made all that."
"Are you serious, that was you?"
"Yes." I answer softly.
"How did you do that?"
"Why aren't you selling them?"
"Why did you show everyone if you weren't going to sell it?"
Questions are thrown at me left and right as his father sits and glares at me making me more nervous.
"I'm not selling it yet because there are still problems with it that are life threatening. Unless I wanted a lot of lawsuits then I would have began making more." I chuckle awkwardly as they continue questioning me.
"Everyone leave, I want to have a word with Luhan.. Alone." He father says making everyone stop talking.
"Dad-"
"Go, show them the backyard or something." He tells Sehun who hesitates before getting up.
An awkward silence fills the room as everyone clears out leaving the two of us alone. His father continues to stare at me, not saying a word, making me feel that much more uncomfortable as I look at my lap and glance up at him every so often.
He opens his mouth at least three times to say something but then just closes it and continues inspecting me.
"Why?" He says as he moves to rest his elbow on the right arm of the chair.
"Why?" I question, unsure what he's asking exactly.
"Why my son?"
"I-I never intended any of this, it just happened. I wasn't trying to hurt your family, that's the last thing I wanted to do."
"Is that why you're so nervous? You think you're ruining our family?"
"Y-yes." I mumble as I look down.
"Why?"
"Um, you told me I was." I say even softer as I become more uncomfortable than I already am.
"I'm sorry about what happened last night, I was out of line, and I hurt you. I saw you burn your hand, but you didn't say anything to Sehun about it, why didn't you?"
"I, it was an accident, it was my fault-" I begin but he cuts me off.
"Why are you blaming yourself?" He asks as I accidentally make eye contact and quickly look away.
"It was my fault, I put my hand there-"
"I'll admit it was my fault you burned your hand, it amazes me how we both know that but you're still trying to make it seem like your fault. Why do you care what happens to this family?"
"I never had my own family like this. Sehun's lucky to have you, and I couldn't bare to know I was the reason it fell apart."
"You have family problems?"
"Yeah, and family's important to me, I mean.. I can't explain it." I say as my cheek heat up.
"You're a good person, I'm sorry I was so quick to judge you and hurt you. I'll pay for any medical bill-"
"That's extremely unnecessary, sir. My friend works with the body and he already handled it." I assure him.
"You really like my son don't you?" He asks making my cheeks burn even more.
"Yes, I do." I say before giving me a slightly approved look that also tells me to leave to go to Sehun.
I thank him before hurrying out to the backyard.
I stop once I see all of them together, talking and laughing. He looks so happy, everyone does and I can't help but envy him.
I have a family, Baekhyun's mom and Jiyong's dad, but they aren't my real family, I don't feel like they love me the same. When I was a child Jiyong actually told me I was adopted and that their parents didn't want me. It hurt, and of course he apologized and we're still close, but I'll never forget that. I'll never forget how much of an outsider I felt like and how I still feel like one..
