Love, Sex, and Zombies - 2
Sora slowly awoke to the soft light of dawn filtering through the dusty windows. He sat up with a start, his heart racing when he found the spot beside him empty. Panic set in, his mind racing with images of Ren being taken by the zombies. But before he could let the fear consume him, he heard the sound of shuffling from the doorway. Relief washed over him as Ren entered, his muscular form silhouetted by the early morning light. He looked tired but unharmed, his eyes searching the room before settling on Sora.
"Ren," Sora breathed, his voice filled with relief. "You're okay." He couldn't help but notice the absence of his usual morning wood, but the sight of Ren safe and sound was all that mattered. "Where were you?" Sora's voice was tinged with a hint of annoyance, but the love in his eyes was unmistakable. "You scared me." He reached out, his hand trembling slightly, to touch Ren's arm. The warmth of his skin was reassuring, a comforting reminder that they were both alive. "I thought..." his voice trailed off, unable to voice the dark thoughts that had plagued him.
"I'm sorry," Ren murmured, climbing back into bed and pulling Sora into his arms. "I just went to check the perimeter, make sure we weren't surrounded." He kissed Sora's forehead gently. "Everything's clear. We're safe for now."
"Thank you," Sora whispered. "I don't know what I'd do without you." Ren wrapped his arms around Sora, holding him close. He knew the fear that gripped Sora every time he was out of sight, the memories of the horrors they had faced together.
He kissed the top of his head, feeling the warmth of his love and gratitude. "You don't have to think about that," he assured him, his voice a gentle rumble. "We're in this together. I'll always come back to you." He pulled the tapestry over them again, the fabric a comforting barrier between them and the harsh reality outside. "Now, let's get some breakfast before we start the day. We need to keep our strength up."
With a yawn, Sora nodded and climbed out of bed, his body still feeling the lingering effects of their passionate night. They moved in unison, collecting their clothes from the floor and getting dressed. The room looked untouched by their earlier activities, the only evidence of their love was the faint scent that lingered in the air.
"What's on the menu?" Sora asked, trying to keep the mood light as he followed Ren out of the bedroom.
"Whatever we can find," Ren said with a wink. "But I promise, it'll be better than zombie brain." They shared a laugh, the sound a beacon of hope in the desolate corridor.
As they sat down to eat their makeshift breakfast of canned goods and stale crackers, the sudden sound of gunfire pierced the morning calm. The pop-pop of bullets echoed through the deserted streets, jolting them both to attention. They exchanged worried glances, the moment of levity forgotten. "We have to check it out," Ren said, his voice tight. "It might be survivors." They quickly finished their meal and grabbed their weapons.
Ren peeked through the curtains, his eyes narrowing as he took in the chaotic scene. A group of humans, armed and desperate, were sprinting down the street, pursued by a horde of the undead. The survivors were gaining ground, their bullets flying wildly. "Come on," he whispered, pulling Sora towards the door. "We might be able to help." They crept out of the apartment, staying low and moving swiftly to the window.
From their vantage point, they could see the survivors turn the corner, the zombies hot on their heels. "We need to distract them," Ren said, his mind racing. He looked around the room, spotting a metal trash can. "Grab that and make some noise," he instructed, already formulating a plan. "I'll try to take some of them out."
"Okay," Sora nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. They had encountered survivors before, but never ones in such dire straits. Ren's hand squeezed Sora's reassuringly before letting go, and they both knew the stakes had just been raised.
With a deep breath, Sora picked up the trash can and tossed it out the window, the clattering metal echoing through the street. The zombies' heads swiveled in their direction, drawn by the sudden noise. Ren took aim, his muscles coiled and ready. As the first few shuffled closer, he fired, his shots precise and deadly. The creatures fell, but more took their place, the horde relentless.
Sora's eyes grew wide as he watched the chaos unfold, his grip on the window ledge tightening. "Ren, I'm scared," he admitted in a shaky voice. "I don't want to lose you."
"You won't," he said firmly. "We're a team, remember? Now, let's go help those people." With a nod, Sora stepped back and readied his own weapon.
They moved as one, descending the stairs and bursting out into the street. The smell of death and decay filled the air, but the sound of human screams spurred them on. They fought side by side, a fierce duo against the never-ending tide of the undead.
"This way!" Ren shouted, pointing to an alley where the survivors had taken refuge. Sora followed, his eyes locked on the terrified faces of the humans. They were so close, yet the zombies were gaining ground. The adrenaline pumped through their veins as they sprinted towards the alley, their love for each other and their shared humanity fueling their every step.
As they approached the alley, the survivors came into view: a woman with a fiery determination in her eyes, a teenage boy, and a man. But the man had a grim expression, his hand clamped over a blood-soaked bite on his arm. Ren's gaze flickered to the wound, his heart sinking. "Sora, stay with them," he instructed, his voice tense. "I'll hold them off." Without waiting for a response, he charged into the horde, his weapon blazing.
The bitten man looked up at them, his eyes filled with a mix of pain and acceptance. "Take care of her," he said through gritted teeth, nodding at the woman. "My name is Marcus."
The teenager looked at them with hope and fear, his eyes wide and pleading. "Please, don't leave us."
Sora nodded, his own fear replaced with a fierce resolve to protect these newfound allies. "We won't," he promised, moving to stand between them and the approaching zombies. Marcus's grip tightened on the woman's hand, his face pale with pain.
"We're in this together now," Sora said, his voice firm. "Let's get out of here." The woman, whose name they would learn later was Lena, managed a small, grateful smile. The teenager, revealed to be her brother, Alex, nodded solemnly.
As the zombies drew closer, Ren's bullets continued to fly, buying them precious seconds. "Come on," Sora urged, leading them towards the safety of the apartment. They moved quickly, their hearts pounding in their chests. Behind them, the sound of combat grew more intense, a symphony of life and death. "Keep going," Ren yelled, his voice strained. "I'll be right behind you." The unspoken fear was that he might not make it, but they didn't dare voice it.
The survivors stumbled into the apartment, breathless and grateful. Sora locked the door behind them, his eyes never leaving the window where he could see Ren, fighting with everything he had. "We're safe," he assured them, his voice shaking slightly. "For now."
Lena and Alex collapsed onto the couch, their faces etched with fatigue and fear. Marcus leaned against the wall, his legs giving out beneath him. His breathing was shallow, and his skin had begun to cool.
"Thank you," Lena said, her eyes glistening with tears. "You have no idea what that means to us." Sora nodded, his eyes never leaving the window. He was torn between staying and helping Ren and caring for the newcomers.
"We need to get you patched up," Sora said, moving towards Marcus. "We might not be doctors, but we know a thing or two about first aid." He took the first-aid kit from their bag and knelt beside the injured man. "This might hurt," he warned, his voice gentle as he began to treat the wound. "But it's necessary." Outside, the fight raged on, the gunfire a constant reminder of the danger they were all in.
"Sora, keep the door locked!" Ren called, his breathing heavy. "I'll be there soon." The zombies were falling, but there were so many.
Sora's heart hammered in his chest, willing Ren to come back to him. The moments stretched into an eternity, each second feeling like a year. "Just stay safe," he murmured, his voice barely audible. "Please come back to me." The clatter of the trash can grew distant, and finally, the sounds of the fight began to die down. With trembling hands, Sora finished tending to Marcus's wound. The silence outside was deafening.
"They're coming," Alex whispered, his eyes wide. "We can't stay here."
Sora nodded, his mind racing. "Ren will be here soon," he assured them, though his voice lacked conviction. "We'll find somewhere else to go." Their future was uncertain, but with Ren fighting for them, Sora knew they had a chance. "We just have to hold out a little longer," he whispered, more to himself than anyone else. "We'll be okay."
Suddenly, Ren's powerful form burst through the apartment door, sweat dripping from his brow and blood staining his clothes. "We have to move," he panted, his eyes scanning the room. "A massive horde is coming. We need to leave through the backdoor, now!" The urgency in his voice was palpable. Lena and Alex exchanged horrified glances, but they knew better than to argue.
"Follow me," Sora said calmly, taking charge. "We've got this."
They moved quickly, collecting their things and checking their weapons. Marcus, now bandaged and slightly more stable, managed to stand with their help. "Thank you," he said, his voice strained. "For everything."
Ren nodded, his eyes filled with a fierce love for Sora. "Let's go," he said, taking point as they made their way through the apartment, their hearts racing. The zombies' moans grew louder, the sound of their shuffling footsteps a grim crescendo. The back door was their only escape, and it was a small one at that.
"Ready?" Ren asked, his hand on the doorknob.
"We're with you," Lena said, gripping her weapon tightly. "Let's do this."
With a nod, Ren flung open the door and they spilled into the narrow alley, the stench of decay washing over them. "Stick together," Ren barked, his eyes scanning the alleyway as he reached out to grab Sora's hand. "And keep moving." They sprinted down the alley, the shadows playing tricks on their eyes. The world outside was a blur of fear and adrenaline. But as they emerged onto a quieter street, the sound of the horde grew fainter. For now, they were safe.
"Where to now?" Alex asked, panting.
"Away from here," Ren replied, his hand never leaving Sora's. "We'll find somewhere safe to regroup." They moved through the desolate city, their hearts beating in sync.
As the group hurried down the quieter street, Sora's sharp ears picked up the sound of a faint conversation between Marcus and Lena. His heart sank as he heard Marcus's words.
"I know I'm going to turn," Marcus said, his voice strained with pain. "It's better if we just end it now."
Lena's voice was a mix of anger and despair. "We can't just leave you here," she protested. "We can find a cure, I know it."
Marcus's grip on her hand tightened. "You know there's no cure, Lena. I don't want to become one of them."
Sora's eyes filled with tears, but he kept them hidden. "What do we do?" he asked Ren in a low voice, his heart breaking for their new companions.
"We stick together," Ren said firmly. "We're a team now."
Finally, they found a small, fortifiable building, the doors already barricaded. "In here," Ren said, pushing the door open. "We can hold out here until we figure out our next move." The group moved inside, their footsteps echoing in the emptiness.
"Marcus," Sora said softly, approaching the injured man. "We're going to help you through this, okay?"
Marcus looked up, his eyes filled with a mix of sorrow and gratitude. "Thank you," he murmured. "But I know what I am. I don't want to hurt you." The tension in the room was thick, the reality of their situation pressing down on them like a weight.
"We'll talk about it later," Ren said, his voice gentle but firm. "Right now, we need to focus on staying alive." The group set to work, fortifying the building and securing their temporary shelter.
"We'll figure it out," Sora murmured, his hand on Marcus's shoulder. "We're not leaving anyone behind." The promise in his voice was unshakeable, a testament to the love and loyalty that had carried them through so much already.
"We're in this together," Ren said, his gaze meeting Sora's. "To the end." With renewed determination, they worked tirelessly, turning the abandoned building into a fortress.
The hours ticked by as they worked to secure their shelter. The sun had reached its peak, casting stark shadows through the dusty windows. Marcus's condition had deteriorated significantly, his breathing ragged and his skin cold to the touch. "It's time," Marcus whispered to Lena, his eyes pleading. "You know I'm right."
Lena's hand trembled as she held the gun, her heart breaking. "I'm so sorry," she choked out. "I can't do it."
Marcus looked at her, his own eyes filled with love. "You can," he said, his voice weak. "You're stronger than you think."
Sora and Ren looked on, their hearts heavy with the weight of the moment. "We're here," Sora offered. "We won't let you go through this alone."
Marcus took a deep, shaky breath. "Thank you," he murmured. "For everything." With one final look at Lena, he nodded.
Lena took a step back, her eyes squeezed shut. "I love you," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"And I love you," Marcus responded. "Goodbye."
The gunshot rang out, a single note of finality in the quiet room. "Marcus," Lena screamed, collapsing to her knees beside him. "No, no, no!" The sound of her sobs echoed through the room as the weight of their loss settled over them. They had come together as strangers, united by a common enemy and a desperate hope for survival.
"We have to keep going," Ren said, his voice gentle but firm. "For Marcus. For all of us."
Sora nodded, wiping away his own tears. "We'll find a cure," he said, his voice filled with determination. "We won't let this be the end of us." The group gathered around Lena, offering what comfort they could. Their bond had been forged in tragedy, but it was a bond that would not be easily broken.
"We're with you," Ren said, his hand resting on her shoulder. "Always." And with that, they continued their fight, their hearts heavy but their resolve unshaken.
As evening fell, the group sat in the makeshift living room of their new shelter. The candles flickered, casting a warm glow over the stark reality of their situation. Marcus's body was bundled in sheets and placed outside, a silent sentinel guarding their sanctum. Lena's cries had turned into silent sobs, her grief palpable in the air.
Sora sat beside her, his arm around her shoulders, offering what little comfort he could. "We'll get through this," he murmured, his voice soothing. "We're all here for you."
Ren, ever the protector, stood at the door, his eyes scanning the darkness outside. "We need to keep moving," he said after a long moment. "We can't stay here forever."
Lena nodded, wiping her eyes. "I know," she said, her voice cracking. "But I just... need a moment."
Ren's gaze softened. "We all do," he conceded. "But we can't let our guard down."
Sora nodded, his eyes meeting Ren's over Lena's bowed head. "We'll keep watch tonight," he offered. "You two get some rest." The weight of their loss was heavy on all of them, but they knew that life - and the apocalypse - waited for no one.
"Thank you," Lena whispered, her eyes closing as she leaned into Sora's embrace. "Thank you for everything." And so, they settled into an uneasy peace, the candlelight flickering over their weary faces. The night was long, and the zombies were never far, but in their shared grief and determination, they found a semblance of comfort
As the candles burned low and the night grew quiet, Lena and Alex finally succumbed to exhaustion, curling up on the floor to find some rest. Sora remained at his post beside Ren, his eyes never leaving the barricaded door. "Ren," he said softly, noticing the tension in his partner's body. "Are you okay?"
Ren's gaze didn't waver from the darkness outside. "Just... thinking," he said, his jaw clenched. "We've lost so much."
Sora nodded, his hand reaching out to rest on Ren's thigh. "But we still have each other," he whispered. "We're not alone."
Ren's hand found Sora's, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Thank you," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "For everything."
Sora leaned his head on Ren's broad shoulder, his eyes drifting closed. "We'll make it through," he murmured, his voice filled with quiet conviction. "We always do." And so, they sat together in the quiet of the night, their hearts beating in time with the soft moans of the undead outside, their love a beacon in the darkness.
"I know," Ren said, his voice a low rumble. "We're a team. We'll find a way." Their bond, forged in fire, was unbreakable, and together, they would face whatever the apocalypse threw at them.
