We are all Normal, right? (TKB Contest)
AN: This is my entry for the kissing booth contest. This story conveys two teens as they struggle through being accepted by others. A book that can be anyone...Homosexual, Heterosexual, Bisexual, or Pansexual.
A high school romance huh? What if it was based on the struggles of people who are just more than straight
Alone is all Dylan is in this life of the school.
Always being crowded to try to blend in a place where nobody understands him.
Everyone except, for his good friend, Carter. They were the best of friends since the day they met in freshman year. Both of them had our differences but nothing could pull them aside.
Except for Rowan, and the star ruler of the school. Within a blink of her eyes, you are dead. She had gotten the attention amongst boys and girls. Dylan would try, like others to play a move. But they would be rejected, but today was the day everything was going to change.
The word on the hall of the lockers was that Rowan had a crush on a low person in the hierarchy of the high school. Since especially today, the beautiful brunette looked at me before blushing in a pink tint. Carter was mad at me for some reason since Rowan was apparently in the angry student's words, "Checking you out!"
"Dylan, you could get into trouble with Rowan. Their reputation is known to be rebels and always bullying people like us!"
I rolled my eyes as I just squeezed Carter's hands. "I loved Rowan since I laid my eyes on Rowan. And if you don't like that- then we aren't friends!"
Dylan yelled at Carter, even adding curse words before storming off to his fourth class, Chemistry. Rowan's seat happened to be the only seat available, so he almost panicked as his heart soared with joy. Rowan gave a smile as they handed him a small note. It was a crinkled paper ball that could look like a snowball. He slowly unravels it as my fingers quiver at the note.
"Dylan, would you like to go out with me sometime. After all, you are just a cutie, XOXO, Rowan."
Dylan smiled at Rowan as he nodded to them as Rowan returned the grin. Then for the rest of the day, Dylan let the teacher's mindless lecture help him fall into a slumber.
Carter was the last to know about their relationship by the end of the week. The stares burned at Dylan's back as he couldn't stand his old friend not being his friend. Sure, Rowan was great, but she was no Carter. Maybe he has to make it up by doing the first thing that got them together as friends.
So the next day, Dylan ran to the cafeteria before Rowan could meet him or anyone could generally take a seat. His heart beat faster the more he thought about how Carter being so happy that he bought them a wonderful surprise. But then he felt like Carter, was Rowan to his mind. No, it was forbidden in popular code, he already was dating Rowan. No backups, just have to worry about the future.
But, then again...does Dylan truly love Rowan? Well, sure Rowan is nice. But was Rowan the one meant for Dylan or was it, Carter?".
