Oliver woke up that morning with the sneaking suspicion that him and his friends were going to end up doing something stupid. Though, to be completely fair, this was a regular feeling. Unfortunately for him, he had befriended a giant group of troublemakers who went out of their way to do things that might lead them to trouble with professors, or even put them in danger. Throw in the fact that all of them could use magic and you had the perfect recipe for disaster.
So Oliver climbed out of bed feeling ready to yet again try to be the voice of reason for his friends.
The first of his friends he met that morning was Logan. The two shared a house (Ravenclaw) and were in the same dormitory, so they typically saw each other first thing in the morning. Logan seemed to already be awake, as he usually was before Oliver, sitting on his bed and writing. It was a surprise Oliver wasn't awoken by the other Ravenclaw boy jumping onto him in his sleep.
"Morning," Oliver said sleepily, gaining Logan's attention.
"Look who's finally awake!" Logan said as he looked up from his writing with a grin, setting it aside to look at his friend. "Good morning Bon!"
Oliver shook his head, waving Logan off and rubbing at his eyes. "I'm awake earlier than normal, leave me be."
"Mhm, proud of you." Logan said, watching with an adorable giggle as Oliver flushed.
"Shush. Anyways, what are your plans for the day?" Oliver questioned, sitting down next to Logan on his bed.
"After breakfast I was going to meet up with Den!" Logan said excitedly, eyes lighting up at the mention of their Slytherin friend. "And probably our other friends too."
"Of course you're the most excited about Dev." Oliver pointed out, laughing at his friends excitement. "You're so in love. Just get together already!"
Logan just giggled a little nervously, ignoring his comment. "What are your plans?"
"Follow you around until you ditch me. Then follow one of our other friends around." Oliver said with a laugh.
"Sounds like a fun day," Logan remarked.
"I'll be with my friends, so it will be." Oliver grinned, nudging Logan with his shoulder. Logan grinned too.
"You sweetheart!"
"Shush."

Some time later that day Oliver was walking down the halls of the school by himself, waiting for lunchtime. He had ended up losing Logan a while after their friends had gotten together to hang out, and the rest of his friends had also quickly gotten busy so he wasn't able to follow them around. He didn't mind so much-sometimes a bit of alone time could be nice, walking through the halls with his just thoughts. Most of which couldn't help but linger on one particular girl in his friend group who he found absolutely adorable-and had since their first year when he met her on the train to hogwarts.
He couldn't help but adore Sammi. She had the prettiest red hair cut down to her shoulders, and bangs just short enough not to cover her eyes. Oh, her eyes were the prettiest blue Oliver had ever seen in his lifetime, and he wished so much he could gaze into them more. If only he had the courage to actually ask her out. Though, he was at least happy he had managed the find the courage to talk to her more often. Being her friend was already so amazing. She was the sweetest person he had ever met before, and she quickly became his best friend.
As he was walking and thinking about the amazing girl Oliver found himself about to pass by a closet to the side of the hallway when it suddenly opened. The movement startled him a little although he kept his composure, pausing in his walking to see who had opened it.
Out of the closet poked a head, noticing him and quickly hiding right back in the closet and closing the door. Oliver blinked, almost certain that it had been Logan who poked his head out and looked at him. But why would he be hiding in there?
Oliver hesitated for a moment, unsure how to handle this situation. What if it wasn't Logan? What if it was a creature, like a Boggart or something? He frowned, but steeled himself. His curiosity was going to get the better of him, as it always did. Slowly he made his way over to the door, raising his fist and letting it hover there for a moment. Then he slowly knocked, stepping away a moment later to see if the door would open again.
Nothing.
"I saw you in there," Oliver said, frowning. Although now he was a bit unsure of what he saw.
A moment later the door was slowly creaking open, revealing that it was indeed Logan behind it. His face was flushed a dark red, hair mussed, blue tie loosened and clothes ruffled. "Hey, Bon."
"What... I might regret asking, but what are you doing?" Oliver questioned his friend, taking in the disheveled appearance. The door was pushed open slightly further a moment later, Dev appearing beside of Logan and waving at Oliver.
"Hey, dad." Dev greeted with a nickname he had given Oliver, grinning at him.
Oliver blinked slowly, looking between the two with a gaping mouth. "I-you-oh."
The silence drew out a bit longer.
"Finally." Oliver huffed a laugh, shaking his head at the two. "I've only been waiting for forever for you two to realize!" A moment passed and Oliver's face softened into a more genuine smile. "But more seriously, you guys. I'm happy for the two of you."
"Thanks," Logan grinned, looking over at Dev happily.
"But Logan?" Oliver said, dropping his smile and looking more serious, making Logan a bit worried. "I have to tell you that as Dev's father, I am legally obligated to say that if you hurt her I will fight you."
Logan laughed loudly, drawing a smile from Oliver and Dev too. "I would never, Bon!"

"How are you today?" Oliver asked, glancing every now and then towards Sammi walking beside of him with wide eyes, voice wavering as he spoke. He cursed his nerves around her.
"I'm good," Sammi answered in the same routine they did every day. She looked over and caught Oliver's eyes with a smile that pulled the breath from his lungs. "You?"
"Glad you're good! I'm okay." Oliver said hastily, smiling back her way before facing forwards again. The two made small conversation back and forth, Oliver gradually calming the more they talked together. They went back to the Ravenclaw common room together, sitting fairly close on one of the couches in the room and talking for some time. Eventually, Oliver worked up the courage to ask a question he had been wanting to ask since their conversation began. "So, um..." He cleared his throat, trying to sound more teasing than nervous. "Well, I heard from our friends that you have a crush. That true?"
"O-oh, um, I-yeah. I do." Sammi answered, shifting in her seat and looking away. "Why are you bringing that up?"
"Just... curious, I suppose." Oliver shrugged, cheeks red as he scratched the back of his neck nervously. "Who is it?"
"It's... no one."
"No one? Surely it isn't 'no one.' They must be pretty nice if you like them." Oliver pressed, although he wasn't sure why. He was just going to hurt when Sammi said it wasn't him. Sammi seemed to think for a moment, frowning.
"It's just... this girl from potions class. She's really pretty." She said finally, still not even looking Oliver's way. "That's who I like. No one else."
"Oh." Oliver was right-it stung. Which was silly, of course. Why should Sammi like him back anyways? But he had been feeling like maybe there was something there. He supposed he was wrong, then.
Then again, you never could know for sure unless you outright asked for the answer.
"So. I guess that means there's not a small ounce of a chance that maybe, possibly, potentially... that crush was me?" Oliver asked, chuckling with tears stinging at the corners of his eyes. He could hide it, though. He would. It was okay if Sammi didn't like him back, even if it hurt a bit.
Sammi didn't respond right away. When Oliver looked over at her, her face was a deep red color, and she still wouldn't look at him. A few beats of silence passed by, Oliver's heart hammering loudly in his chest. "I... I don't want to lie. I do kind of like you. But I don't want it to ruin our friendship, I'm really sorry..."
"Sammi, nothing could ruin our friendship!" Oliver said quickly, turning to face the girl by pulling his legs up on the couch, sitting criss-crossed. "You're my best friend no matter what, nothing is changing that! And-and I... well, I uh, I really like you too, actually." He finished, smiling a little nervously.
Sammi finally turned to look at him, seeming surprised. "You-Wait, really? This isn't like... a big joke or something right now, is it?"
"Absolutely not! I'd never do that to you," Oliver assured quickly, shaking his head. "I've-well, to be honest I've liked you a very long time... I'm really, really happy to hear you feel the same."
They both sat in silence for a long while, taking in what had just happened.
"What... do we do now?" Sammi asked. "I've never been in this situation before..."
"Me either," Oliver snorted, looking down at the ground for a moment to think. "I-I guess, uh... do you... want to be my girlfriend, then?"
"I'd. I'd like that, yeah. I'd be honored to be, really. Basically, yes, I'd love to be your girlfriend. Sorry for phrasing it a million different formal ways," Sammi said, smile breaking out over her face.
"God, you're adorable," Oliver said without thinking, before a blush overtook his face. "Wait, sorry I-well, I guess... I can say those things out loud now, can't I? I... You're amazing, Sammi." Oliver covered his face with a hand, smiling so wide his eyes crinkled and his cheeks ached. "I can't stop smiling. And shaking. That was scary, but I'm so glad I did that."
"I'm glad too." Sammi said, her smile calming Oliver's extra nerves a small bit. He couldn't be more happy to have met her.
"I wasn't lying, by the way. Luna from potions is really pretty. I just like you more." Oliver couldn't help but let out a laugh at that, smiling at Sammi brightly.
"You're not wrong. You're the prettiest, though."

It was at lunch that the pair announced what had happened between them to their friends at the Ravenclaw table. Logan and Zi were there, as well as Dev who sat where she wanted despite the rule to sit with your house. Samantha, another girl from Ravenclaw, also sat with them. She was one of Zi's friends who had been invited over to sit with them by Logan. They all knew of Zi's crush on the girl, and they had tried for ages to get them together. It was unbearable to see them dance around each other; Oliver guessed that might be what the others felt about him and Sammi, now that he thought about it.
"So... I asked Sammi out earlier." Oliver announced, chewing nervously on his lip and waiting for a reaction, and boy did he get one.
Logan spat out the drink he had all over the table, getting some on Oliver who sat across from him. Zi excitedly congratulated the two, a warm smile on her face. Dev made a comment about it being "about time they sorted that out."
"Wait, I thought you were dating Logan though? You... like girls?" Samantha questioned, tilting her head. Oliver's face reddened as Logan burst into laughter, although he couldn't help smiling a little too. "What? The whole school thinks you two are together! We-we heard you two in the Ravenclaw dorms!"
"Oh, god," Oliver turned an even brighter shade of red, covering his face with his hands as Logan struggled to breathe through his laughing. Oliver had forgotten all about the time that Logan had played moaning sounds throughout their dorm room when the two were alone in there(phones and other technology weren't supposed to work around magic, but Oliver, Logan, Zi, and a bunch of other ravenclaws had been quick to find a way around that. No way were they going without technology all year. Plus it was much more fun to come up with a solution to that than to do History of Magic homework).
"No, me and Logan aren't dating!" Oliver insisted, shaking his head. "And nothing happened in the dorms either! We're just... touch starved friends, okay! There's nothing wrong with cuddling your friends." Oliver crossed his arms over his chest, huffing. Logan was still losing it over this entire situation.
"I can't believe-" Logan wheezed, cutting himself off momentarily. "Can't believe people believed we fucked in the dorms! Oh god, they're going to be so shocked when they find out you're a het!"
"How dare you," Oliver pouted, looking Logan's way. "I am not and never will be a hetero!"
"I'm surprised you two didn't screw each other in the dorms though." Sammi said, calmly sipping her drink as she watched all of this play out. Oliver spluttered, even his girlfriend was against him right now.
"Right?" Zi commented, laughing along with Logan. "Horny bastards."
"What's most surprising is that you got into a relationship before you got the chance to fuck The Grey Lady." Logan mentioned, making Oliver rapidly look around for any sign of the Ravenclaw house ghost.
"Logan! I do not want to fuck our house ghost!"
"Oh sorry, who was it then? Nearly Headless Nick? Peeves? Moaning Myrtle?" Logan listed off some more of the ghosts in the school. "It has to be one of them, we all know you're a ghost-fucker."
"Stop naming them! One of them is going to hear you one day!" Oliver insisted. "I'd never live that shit down!"
"Well it's true!" Logan snickered, laughter slowly dying down. "In seriousness though, I'm happy for you two! I've been waiting since day one. Glad you're finally together."
"Thanks." Oliver smiled at his friend, looking over at Sammi who also smiled. "I'm really, really happy."

It wasn't until after dinner that all of their friend group got together once again. They were all gathered outside together, talking in desperate little groups. Oliver was next to Sammi, Dev, Logan, and Esha(a Hufflepuff they had befriended in year two) were sitting together, Jay and Porto(a Hufflepuff and Gryffindor boy respectively that Oliver had also met first year) were together, and finally Zi, Trystan(a Slytherin from first year, and Esther(a Hufflepuff from first year) were sat together.
"Oh, hey gays!" Logan said, drawing the attention of all of their friends. "Oliver and Sammi have news!"
"What, have they finally started dating?" Esha joked.
"Actually..." Oliver started off, smiling sheepishly.
"No way!"
"Are you serious?"
"Congrats you two!"
"Thanks," Oliver and Sammi both said, glancing at each other and smiling. Oliver looked back towards the group, specifically at two of their friends. "Guess it's just Jay and Porto left who need to sort out their romantic tension."
"Hah, imagine being single." Jay commented at that, glancing at Porto.
"Yeah, we wouldn't know what that's like." Porto laughed.
"Wha-no way!" Oliver said, staring between the two. "Are you joking? If this is a prank I will literally cry, don't test me-"
"Guys! You're together? Please tell me it's true, you're not pranking us! I need my ship to be a thing." Dev said as well, everyone getting excited at the idea of two couple finally realizing their feelings today.
"Good god, February 14th was an entire month ago! Why are all three of the main groups obvious crushes getting together today?" Oliver said in exasperation, although he was very happy for everyone too.
"Wait, three?" Esther asked, looking around between the group.
"Yeah, I caught Dev and Logan in a storage closet earlier!" Oliver said, surprising the friends who weren't in Ravenclaw and didn't hear the news earlier that day. "We're all living out a damn fanfiction."
Everyone agreed with Oliver's statement, the conversation devolving into laughter and some congratulations being shared between the friends. It settled into a normal friend hangout for a while, the group of them talking about random things, joking and teasing with each other and having a good time hanging out together.
"You guys ever wonder what it's like out in the Forbidden Forest?" Oliver was the one to ask, staring out past Hagrid's Hut towards the tall, dark tree line that led to the mysterious forest the students were forbidden from entering, as the name suggested. "It's kind of... intriguing."
"Let's go check it out." Dev suggested.
"Ah yes, let's just go to the forest we know we're not allowed to be in filled with dangerous things. Surely we'll be okay and won't end up expelled." Oliver remarked sarcastically, frowning at his friends.
"I would go," Trystan spoke up, siding with Dev. "Can't be too bad, right?"
"We should do it." Porto agreed.
Soon enough most of their group were convinced to go, other than Logan and Oliver.
"Guys! What if we get in trouble!" Oliver argued, frowning. "I swear, why do I always have to be the voice of reason?"
"Who cares about getting in trouble with teachers, what if we find something out there?" Logan asked, looking nervous.
"You know I'd protect you, babe." Dev said immediately, comforting Logan. "Please go with us? For me?" Logan was quick to give in when Dev gave him puppy dog eyes, unable to resist doing whatever they asked.
"Logan, don't give in! This is still a bad idea, guys!"
"It was your idea in the first place, darling." Sammi reminded him, smiling at him as his face flushed.
"S-still, I didn't mean to actually do it!" Oliver said, crossing his arms and frowning.
"But aren't you curious?" Dev pressed, making Oliver pause. "Don't you want to know what could be out there? Could be anything!"
"How dare you use my own curiosity against me?" Oliver frowned, but thinking of it more he was really curious. "Do you think... there's actually unicorns out there?"
"We'll never know unless we go find out." Porto said, and Oliver sighed.
"Sometimes I really don't know why I'm friends with all of you." Oliver said - although they all knew he didn't mean it - slowly uncrossing his arms. "I guess someone has to make sure you guys don't get into too much trouble."

A lot of excitement and planning later the group found themselves back in their dorm rooms, waiting for nightfall to sneak out. Because of course, they couldn't go out at daytime when they would be a little bit safer. No, they had to leave when it would be dark and spooky, and they were likely to trip and injure themselves or get lost out in the forest. Oliver couldn't complain much, though. It was really the only time they could sneak into the forest without getting caught and expelled, and he had given in and agreed to go.
So, when most of the Ravenclaw dorm had settled down to sleep, Logan approached Oliver in his bed and shook him roughly. "We have to go now! Dev and everyone else is waiting!"
"I know, I know," Oliver jumped out of his bed, avoiding being shaken anymore. "I wasn't asleep, you could have just said!"
"Well what fun would that be?" Logan laughed, Oliver shaking his head with a small smile.
"Aren't you nervous about this?" Oliver asked Logan as the two of them got ready to leave their dorms, changing out of their pajamas and into proper clothes for exploring the forest.
"Terrified. But everyone else is going. And Dev said he'd protect me," Logan said, basically swooning as Oliver rolled his eyes. "Now hurry! Let's go!"
The two Ravenclaw boys met Sammi and Zi in the commons room, Oliver smiling over at Sammi as he approached her. "Hey! How are you feeling?"
"Excited. Nervous, but excited." She said, the two of them following behind Logan and Zi as they left the commons room. "You?"
"Very nervous." Oliver answered before the two fell quiet, not wanting to be caught by a professor for being out of their dorms at night. The four of them walked quietly and carefully down the halls of the school, hoping not to attract any unwanted attention.
They made it successfully out of the school and onto the grounds where the tree line awaited, looming dark and foreboding above them. Dev and Trystan had already made it there and were waiting for them, able to sneak out of the Slytherin dorms very easily. The next to make it was the groups only Gryffindor Porto, quickly followed by the Hufflepuff crew of Esther, Jay, and Esha.
"I think that's all of us," Oliver said, counting over all of their friends. "So... I guess that means we head in."
"Right, lets get going!" Dev said, turning to face the trees. They were the first to walk in, followed by Logan who stuck to her side like glue.
Oliver sighed, not wanting to be stuck at the end of the group at stepping up behind the pair, uttering under his breath. "Lumos." His wand lit up at the end, allowing them to see the path ahead of them as they treaded carefully inside.
The inside of the forest was much more terrifying than the outside.
They didn't have to walk very far before they were surrounded by trees, the only light coming from Oliver's wand before a few of the others cast the spell to light up their own. Despite the light from their wands it was a very thin shield of light that protected them from the unpredictable darkness that surrounded the forest. Still, the group pressed on. It was far too late to turn back now anyways.
""We're getting pretty far," Esther said quietly, looking behind them. They were far enough that she couldn't see the clearing they had entered through anymore.
"We still haven't seen anything yet." Jay added, in the same quiet voice. It seemed dangerous to be any louder out here.
"I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing." Oliver muttered, shivering at the idea of seeing something out in the forest. What might they find out here?
After Oliver said that there was a rustling that came from somewhere nearby. Logan immediately cling onto Dev for dear life, Jay doing the same to Porto. Oliver stepped up to be between his friends and where the noise came from, wand raised in alarm.
"What the hell was that?" Trystan hissed, standing behind Oliver.
"Could be anything out here. This wasn't our best idea," Sammi said, but still stepped up beside of Oliver with her wand raised as well. Oliver held out a hand to touch her shoulder, intending to guard her by stepping ahead of her. However Sammi flinched at the touch, reflexively reaching out to swing her balled fist straight into Oliver, hitting him in the stomach and knocking the wind out of him.
"Fuck," Oliver wheezed, doubling over and clutching his stomach. Sammi immediately started to apologize, feeling bad for hitting him but Oliver waved her off. "No no, my fault, didn't mean to startle you." He coughed, freezing and holding his breath when the rustling was heard again, closer this time. He quickly raised back up, wand held out once again.
A few moments later something shiny poked out from behind a tree, sharp and dangerous looking. It was golden in color, and followed by an equally golden head peering out at them past the trees. Oliver gasped loudly, recognizing the creature immediately.
"It's a unicorn," he breathed, lowering his wand immediately. The others followed once they realized that were in no danger-unicorns were not hostile unless provoked, and they certainly had no intentions of provoking the beautiful creature.
Said creature continued to slowly reveal itself from behind the tree, stepping closer to the group of young witches and wizards. Oliver examined the creature with wide eyes, in awe at the beauty of the animal just as everyone else was.
"It's still a baby," Oliver said, remembering when they learned about them in their Care of Magical Creatures class; it was his favorite, after all. "He's still gold. He's not even two years old yet."
A few of the other students approached the unicorn, standing the same distance away as Oliver was, being sure not to crowd it and scare it at all. The unicorn looked around at each of the students, slowly approaching the student at the end of the line, Esther. The unicorn got up close to the girl, seeming to examine her and letting her reach out to pet it's beautiful mane. It moved over to Zi next, letting her pet it as well. It made its way down the line of students, passing Esha, Porto, Jay, Trystan, Sammi, before it stopped next to Dev, Logan, and Oliver. The three of them pet the unicorn as well, the wonderful creature leaning into their pets it seemed.
"I used to ride horses, but... this? Petting an actual unicorn?" Dev muttered, stroking down its mane.
"This is incredible," Oliver breathed, petting the unicorns long nose carefully. He couldn't help but stare wondrously at the magnificent horn that sat on its head, shining brilliantly just from the light of their wands.
The unicorn stuck around for a few minutes, allowing the students to admire and pet it and seeming happy to stick around them. It must have gotten bored though, because after a while it shied away from their touches. The students backed off respectfully, watching the creature give them one last look before it raced off into the forest, moving faster than any other creature they had witnessed before.
"That... was so worth it," Oliver said, still completely in awe. "I'm so glad I let you guys convince me to do this."
"We should probably go back before we happen to meet a less friendly creature, though." Sammi said, and luckily everyone else seemed to agree with her.
It wasn't long before all of the students made it back out of the forest, all breathing a collective sigh of relief as they did. None of them could believe the awesome night that they had just had, and all because of Oliver's dumb curious comment.
Despite being unsure of it at first Oliver was glad he went along with his friends on this dangerous trip. Even if they often did dangerous things that would lead them into trouble, Oliver absolutely adored his friends. He had been right to think that they would get up to something stupid that day, but he would be lying if he said it wasn't one of the best days he had ever had.
