The Witch of the Mountain
You tell your children to watch out,
you tell your children to stay in line,
you tell your children to be careful
lest they want to fall as victim
of the Witch of the Mountain.
Your stories are all the same,
your stories tell of you as victims,
your stories tell of the horror that happens
when the good and the innocent
cross paths with the Witch of the Mountain.
In your stories I am a beast,
in your stories I am cruel and wicked,
in your stories I do not differentiate
the righteous from the bad
for I am the Witch of the Mountain.
All things bad are caused by me,
all things unjust are a result of my actions,
all things that need a villain
and you do not want to shoulder any guilt for
is blamed on the Witch of the Mountain.
I ought to be angry,
I ought to want to settle the account,
I ought to want revenge
but I do not
for I am the Witch of the Mountain
and I know right from wrong.
A child lost in the woods,
killed in the woods
and instead of looking within
you pour the blame on me.
I listen to your accusations,
the horror you use to describe me,
and I smile to myself,
feel pleased with myself,
for as long as I'm a monster,
no child will walk alone where they ought not to go.
So blame it all on me,
so tell your children to beware,
so stay away from the dark,
and stay away from the unknown,
whilest the Witch of the Mountain is at work.
I'll hunt down the danger,
I'll punish all that do wrong,
I'll eliminate the threat,
and make sure your children are safe,
for I am the Witch of the Mountain
and I protect the innocent.
