[9] But By Chance, We Met Again

I realize that Patri and Ratri are cousins (as per the official fandom pages). Let's say they're NOT RELATED because incest is fucking disgusting.

Double Update!

Welcome to one of the longest-if not the longest chapter in the book :D

Elf Reader POV, 500 years ago

"Hurry up!!" Ratri held my hand as we ran across the fields. He was smiling.

"Wait for me!!" I struggled to keep up.

He stopped and conjured up a portal. "C'mon!" The portal took us to the top of the rocks.

"Wow!!" I gasped. The blue magnolia trees were starting to bloom. It only happened once every seven-hundred years. The constellation Medea shone upon the two of us.

He kissed my cheek. "I've waited and waited to show you this. Licht told me that the blue Magnolias would bloom tonight. I'm so glad we got to see it together..."

He picked one and placed it in my hair, staring at me with pride. "I love you so much, (y/n). I want to spend every moment with you. Waking up. Brushing our teeth. Eating meals. Everything."

He went down on one knee, holding out a ring he crafted himself with my birthstone. "Will you marry me?"

I nodded, hugging him tightly. "Of course I will!"

He smiled and slid the finger onto my left hand on the index finger, the sunset warming our faces.

It was a gentle summer's night and we held hands, redness on our faces.

Eclat was the first to notice when she tried to grab my hand.

"EH?! Ratri! You stole her away from me!"

Patri saw my left hand next and sighed. "Well, too bad, Eclat. Ratri loves her and she loves him. You can't stop the threads of fate."

Kivn snickered. "Yeah, Eclat."

Ratri patted my hand. "Well, you did give me permission to marry your sister, Patri. We shall be brothers-in-law soon enough."

"Yeah, well, whatever." Patri rolled his eyes. "But (y/n), what-"

I was ignoring htem all since the children wanted to see the wedding ring.

I overhead Rhya teasing Ratri about it.

"She'll make a good mother, Ratri. Better marry her soon, eh?"

Ratri's face became red and he punched Rhya. "Shut up!"

"Well that's what the wedding night is for anyway, unless you're Licht and Tetia," Drowa yawned.

I looked over at Charla who was holding her niece. "What's the wedding night?"

She nearly choked on her dinner and cleared her throat. "Dearest (y/n), you don't know what the wedding night is?"

"No...Patri never told me about it."

She placed her niece down on the grass and guided me to the waterfalls so she could tell me.

"(y/n), when a man and woman love each other very much, they can choose to show it through multiple acts. Hugging, kissing, holding hands." She had a serious expression. "But some may choose to take it a bit further and offer their bodies to their partners."

"Wait, what do you mean-"

"I mean they have sex," she said. "How do you not know this?"

My eyes grew wide and I covered my face, looking down at my feet and taking a seat on the rocks nearby. "Why must people do that on the wedding night?!"

"Uh that I'm not certain about. Something along the lines of connecting body and soul. I think it's a stupid reasoning, but who cares!"

"Wait, but what does that have to do with having children?"

"Oh gods. Child, you really are uneducated."

Charla and I made our way back after our discussion and I spotted Ratri holding a small boy who was tugging at his hair.

"Ouch! Tobio, stop it! Don't grab onto my hair."

He put down the small boy who stuck his tongue at him.

"Are you alright?" I asked Ratri, helping him neaten his hair back up since this was our engagement party.

"Yeah. That kid's so irritating, but he's alright otherwise." He looked back at the blueberry looking boy with a fond smile. "Hey, (y/n)?"

I nearly jumped out of my seat at his next question.

"Yes?"

"Do you think we'll become parents?"

I looked into his blue eyes, my worries vanishing and a feeling of calm overtaking me. "Maybe. If you want."

He laced his hands with mine and kissed my forehead. "I would very much like to have a kid or two with you. They'll be the perfect mix of us, eh?"

"Yeah..." I looked down back at my shoes then back up at him. "Hey, Ratri? You love me right?"

"Of course I do! I have ever since we were little."

I nodded. "Then make me a promise."

"Anything."

"Promise me that if anything happens, we'll find each other again."

His eyes softened and he hugged me tightly. "I promise it."

Reader POV, Present Day

"Nooo!!!" Romel and Rosseau cried, clutching my arms. "You can't leave us! You're like a little sister to us!"

"A rarity!" Torris added. "You're like a blue magnolia! Only a few mages have such special magic as you do!"

I cringed and tugged them off me. "Guys, stop it! The Wizard King will be here anytime soon and I don't want my senpais on me!"

"Yet you let Langris hug you all the time," Yuno said with a deadpan once more.

This got Langris's attention.

"Oi, all of you stop it. Pull yourselves together. This is a war merits ceremony, not some peasant gathering." He stared down at me. "And especially you, newbie. Quit it. Do not shame the Golden Dawn or-"

"Langris," Vangeance said. "It's alright."

Mimosa looked at me as we stood in a line next to each other, offering me silent sympathy.

"Are you alright?" Yuno whispered to me. "He's been acting so mean lately."

I shrugged. "It's nothing new. He's nasty to anyone on a good day."

"Except you."

I didn't respond to the wind mage's comment.

The doors opened to see the wizard king.

The people were presented with medals and I was shocked to see I was called up.

"(y/n) of the Golden Dawn," he opened a box to reveal a medal, staring at me with happiness in his eyes. "I award you the highest award today. You showed your cunning skills in battle but also compassion. Since you joined the Magic Knights, you have displayed that you are ready to take your place in this nation as one of our strongest."

"For your bravery at the dungeon while confronting your past, for your mercy on the Eye of the Midnight Sun, for your swords of justice, and for your overall admirable traits, I present to you the award only gifted to one person in history. The very first wizard king."

"Ladies, Gentlemen, and Non-Binary folk, I proudly present (y/n) of the Golden Dawn the Lemiel Cross for all of her achievements." He draped it around my neck. "Rise, (y/n)."

I was barely able to comprehend the situation.

"I understand that the War Merits Ceremony takes place once a year, but this couldn't be held off any longer," he said. "You should be proud of yourself, Miss (y/n)."

I looked up at the Wizard King, knowing it was time.

"Lord Julius, please, may I speak?"

"Please," he allowed.

I faced the magic knights and the few nobles in the room including House Vaude who were all looking at me with shock.

"I am not who you think I am," I said. "I am not (y/n) of the Clover Kingdom nor the Golden Dawn."

"What's she saying?" Sol Marron asked Mimosa who only shrugged.

"Just listen," Yuno said with a smile on his face since I told him first.

I stared at Langris before addressing everyone in the room. "I am not from this kingdom, but I am from the Diamond Kingdom. My name is (y/n) Korenthan."

This caused everyone to start speaking urgently.

"Wait, but House Korenthan was all wiped out ten years ago!"

I looked at Damnatio Kira with a soft expression. "It is true that my mother was killed and my father a puppet, but I am very much alive."

"She was a royal this whole time?!" Lord Ledior was in denial. "Sir Julius, you cannot trust her! She is the leader of our enemies!"

I looked at him with a frown and started walking right towards him, Yuno trying to stop me when I pushed him away.

"Lord Ledior, do you really question my intentions in this country? In this landmass? I assure you, I only came to this kingdom to get stronger and fight for my rights to the throne of the Diamond Kingdom."

I glanced at the rest of the people in the room, my gaze on Langris especially.

"I woud never betray people I call my friends and family."

It was silent for a bit when the golden trio took a step forward.

"We will fight with you, Your Highness!" Yuno, Mimosa, and Klaus exclaimed and bowed, dropping to one knee and looking down at the floor.

More cheers and statements of people pledging to help me joined the crowd.

"I too shall help you with my beautiful magic!" Kirsch exclaimed, bowing his head once as he was of equal status as a royal.

"This cannot be!" Lady Liliane shouted. "She is a peasant! A PEASANT! SHE MUST BE LYING!"

"She isn't lying," Julius said as he was the second person I told beforehand. "I knew Queen Anika Korenthan personally. She is definietly her daughter."

Following the ceremony, I was bombarded with people with hundreds if not thousands of questions.

"So its true that you knew Mars, Fana, and Ladros when you were younger!"

"Is it true that your spacial magic was the product of an experiment?"

"How should we help you take back the throne?"

Nozel Silva of the Silver Eagles pulled Solid Silva away from me. "Solid, stop harassing her with questions. Your Highness, I deeply apologize for the actions we made towards you. But had we known you were royalty of our status but higher as you are a crown princess, we-"

I held up a hand. "Nozel, that's exactly why I didn't reveal my identity until now. I truly believe that we can make a bridge that separates the people across the kingdoms. No matter what race, status, or magical power, we are the same."

His eyes softened and he nodded. "I suppose so. I don't know why, but you remind me of someone I knew a very long time ago."

"Don't be so cryptic brother," Nebra said. "He's referring to our mother Acier Silva."

"Acier?" The name sounded familiar. "I believe she and my mother knew each other very well."

"They did," Julius confirmed. "I would travel with Lady Acier to the Diamond Kingdom long ago before I was made the Wizard King."

When the ceremony was over, I decided to pack my things up when there was a knock at my door.

I opened it to reveal Langris.

"Can we talk?" He didn't look me in the eyes. "It's important."

I nodded and closed the door after him. "What is it, vice captain Vaude?"

He looked pained and took his usual spot on my bed, looking up at me. "I'm sorry."

"Pardon?"

"I'm sorry for being so mean to you," he said. "There's no excuse. But (y/n), I want to ask you something about your homeland."

I took a seat next to him, Aishubado getting up and perching himself on my shoulders. "Go ahead."

"If you are a royal and I am a noble from another country, what does that mean?"

"I don't think I understand what you are saying," I said to him.

He took a deep breath. "The red string of fate. I saw it once and I'm sure you saw it as well."

"Oh..." I looked down and touched the necklace that belonged to my mother. "Well, it means that you would be welcomed. And there would be a closer tie between our kingdoms."

"Okay." He moved closer to me, placing his hand on mine and not caring that I was trying to retract my hand. "I have something to confess, (y/n) Korenthan."

He stared me deep in the eyes. "I have been in love with you for over thirteen months. I know it is love. When I'm with you, I feel like I can do anything. I feel like I can be anything. But I don't want to be anything..." he brought my hand to touch his cheek, closing his eyes and reopening them slowly.

"I don't want to be anything or do anything without you by my side."

He kissed my hand and placed it down.

"I understand you might not feel the same about me, but I swear by the blood in my veins and as a magic knight that I will do whatever it takes to try to win your heart." He stood up and stared at me with glimmering eyes full of affection. "So please, before you leave the kingdom, allow me to try."

He bowed before me and looked down, determination in his eyes.

I looked down at him and knelt down to his height, cupping his face and looking into his shocked eyes. "Langris Vaude, as much as you annoy me to no end and make me question why I join this squad, I can't imagine it without you. I accept your confession. But I am not going anywhere just yet."

I broke into a smile and hugged him tightly. "I promise you, I'm not going anywhere. Not until I am ready to return to my home with the forces of the Clover Kingdom. I cannot reclaim my throne unless I have the support of both my people and my allies."

"Then I shall stand beside you through it all," he swore.

"Good. I'm expecting you to do so."

But before he could say anything more, there was a huge surge of magic energy and I saw my body was glowing, as was his.

Tattoos in the shape of vines or varios lines appeared on his face and one appeared on my jawline.

"What the hell..." I whispered.

And just like that, all the memories from my previous life as an elf appeared in my mind again and a huge blast of mana erupted from everyone in the Golden Dawn with the exception of Mimosa Vermillion.

Reader Elf POV

I looked up and saw a face, my eyes watering as I reached out to him.

"Ratri..."

He engulfed me in a hug and kissed me passionately. "(y/n)! So I see we really did meet in another life."

"You kept your promise," I whispered to him. "And it seems our hosts are also soulmates just as we are."

"Funny how you and your host have the same name," he said. "Almost as if it were planned by the threads of fate or something."

He stood up and helped me up then we both took off running down the grand staircase of the Golden Dawn, smiling when we saw familiar faces.

But something was wrong.

The girl I shared a body with was speaking to me, but I ignored her.

So this (y/n) of this timeline is the princess of a disrupted kingdom?

I frowned at the thought that she was the very thing that caused us to die.

But at the same time, I couldn't help but feel that Lemiel wouldn't do that.

His intentions were pure, that much I did know.

"(y/n)!" Ratri pointed to a vase of flowers. "Look, it's the flowers..."

I saw they were blue magnolias, the same flower that he placed in my hair the night he proposed.

"So I see the humans still keep the beauty of nature in their everyday lives."

He picked one up and placed it in my hair, smiling. "And you still look beautiful no matter what."

Kivn snickered. "Good to see you two are still together. And it seems your human counterparts are also together."

"Oh please," I said. "They literally just confessed their feelings before we all came back. Say, where's my brother?"

"He's with the others."

I touched the diamond on the necklace that my human counterpart got from her mother as a child. "I have a feeling they'll need this final stone. Though I am confused as to how a magic stone made it to the Diamond kingdom."

"Who knows. Also Licht's son has a blue magic stone," Kivn said. "I believe his host is Yuno Grinberryall."

"Ah, that's hillarous as our human counterparts don't even know how much alike they are! Both (y/n) and Yuno are both royalty that were forced out of their home, though Yuno was a baby when it happened," the elf Alexia who shared a body with Alicia who was an earth mage said.

I jumped out the window with Ratri following me.

"(y/n), don't overexert yourself on these humans," he warned me. "We've just woken up after five centuries. I refuse to see you harmed!"

"You worry too much," I said as I created wings out of ice shaped like an eagle, tearing through the sky like a rocket.

"STOP RIGHT THERE, (Y/N) KORENTHAN!" A royal named Nozel Silva who my human counterpart knew as the 'lame-braid' dude.

I glared at him and sent a blizzard of ice right to him. "Piss off, disgusting human."

Ratri opened a portal and we moved to the Clover Castle where the king and the heads of House Vaude were pleading.

Ratri blast the doors open and I froze the entire area, my hands covering themselves with a thich sheet of sharp ice, a crown of ice forming on my head and armor much like Acier Silva's but made entirely of ice forming around my body.

"Ah, it's been so long," I said as I stared down at my hands. "I've missed this power. Of course I was murdered right before I was able to discover my true potential."

I stared down at my grimoire with disgust that someone dared to touch it and add another power. "Disgusting humans are too greedy for power. Winter Magic: Frozen Script."

And in a quick flash, the gimoire no longer had winter and spacial magic, just winter magic.

"How vile," Ratri shook his head. "To think they would do that to their own kind."

"Langris! What are you doing?!" Lady Liliane pleaded. "Stop it!"

Ratri glared down at the mother of his human counterpart. "What the fuck did you just call me? I'm not Langris Vaude. No. My name is Ratri."

"Ratri...?"

I spotted a guy who my host called 'Finral the Flirt' who was Langris's older brother. "Finral, was it?" I moved quickly and touched his cheek. "I'm sorry to tell you, but we're not who you think we are."

I was cut off by my host regaining control again, pushing me back into the body.

"Help me," she said to Finral before I regained control.

"Don't worry, (y/n)," Finral said as he summoned up his magic. "I'll get you free."

I moved away from Finral, glad I touched his cheek to unleash the next spell.

"Winter Magic: Ice Puppet."

He froze up and an iced shell overtook his body and I left him like that, turning back to Ratri.

"Oh? Is that a new spell, darling?" He asked me with a smirk. "Nice."

I rolled my eyes at my lover. "Not the time for sweet talk, loverboy. We've got a kingdom to take back."

He shook his head in amusement but then he frowned and moved me out of the way as the blade of Jack the Ripper sliced right through my ice.

"Ah crap..." I looked down with annoyance. "It seems that he's able to break my ice. No matter, Finral's blood is still cold."

Ratri laced his hands with mine and placed his head on my shoulder. "My love, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

I nodded and allowed him to wrap his arms around me so we could form a union spell.

I raised my left hand and he placed his left hand over mine, both of us aiming our spell at the humans, our hearts beating like one.

"Winter Spacial Magic: Redemption of Archangel Souls!"
