[8] Fate Tore Us Apart

🚨INTENSE CHAPTER AHEAD🚨

Patri POV (499 years ago)

I heard a scream and saw my little sister in the arms of her fiancé.

"(Y/N)!" Ratri caught her. "Don't leave me, you hear me?!"

I was frozen still, unable to move.

I had made a promise to our mother that I would protect her, but I couldn't even do that.

And not even a moment later, another light blade struck through their heads and they were locked in one last kiss, their hands held.

"(Y/N)!!! RATRI!" I ran towards the pair and looked up to see humans dressed in fine clothing heading towards us.

They betrayed us!

THEY BETRAYED US.

I couldn't hold the rage in my soul anymore and let out a piercing screech.

I heard the last words my sister said to the one she loved.

If we meet again in another life, promise me you'll let me become your bride!

And I knew it just couldn't end there.

I placed a final kiss on my sister's forehead and placed my hand on Ratri's head.

I looked at the crimson sky and the blood all around the once-beautifully decorated place.

"I promise you, (y/n) and Ratri. You will meet again someday."

Langris POV [current day]

I put on some cologne and opened a portal to (y/n)'s room. I walked in and ended up hitting the wall.

"What?" I tried again and again. "(y/n)!!" I walked out to the balcony and her side of the balcony to her doors. "Open up!"

She was asleep. Of course. It was 5:45 am.

Why am I up this early, you ask? I wanted to experience the morning sun with her! I tried my magic again but no avail!

I smirked. "Oh...you did. Not." She did. She placed a spell that blocks off my magic. I sighed. "Guess I'll have to do it the old-fashioned way." I reared up and kicked down the door. "(y/n)! Wake up, sleeping beauty!"

Aishubado let out a startled screech and attacked me.

"Ouch! Aishubado! Aishubado! Off! Off!!!!"

The light flicked on and (y/n) was there, her grimoire all ready. "Langris!"

Both of us stared at each other.

"What the hell?!" she shouted. "GET OUT OF MY ROOM!!"

I ran over and clasped her mouth shut with my hands as I spun her around and brought her close to my chest. "Shush! You'll wake everyone up!"

She calmed down and lowered her voice. "What the hell are you doing?!"

"Come with me and don't ask any questions," I grabbed her hand and took us through a portal to the beach where the sun was just starting to show up.

"Why are we here this early?" She grumbled. "I didn't even to wash my face."

I held a finger up to my lips, using my other hand to point to the sun. "This beach is known to reflect the deepest waters during the sunrise and sunset. The Underwater Temple."

I moved closer to her, noticing she was shivering a bit and put my cloak around her. "Chilly, isn't it?"

(y/n) said nothing and we both watched with silence as the sun came up, touching our faces.

I felt something inside me screaming to come out and I knew his name.

It was some elf named Ratri and I had seen him in visions.

"Hey, (y/n)?" I placed my hand on her shoulder and leaned down, resting my head on her other shoulder. "What do you think of it? The sunrise I mean."

"It's beautiful," she said. "But why did you bring me here?"

I looked down and took two steps away. "I called it off."

(y/n) turned around. "Excuse me?"

"I called off the stupid engagement." I looked directly into her eyes, a frown on my face.

"Why would you break it off with Miss Finesse?" She looked down. "You're to be the next head of House Vaude."

I sighed. "Why would I want to marry someone I don't even like? I've seen the way she looks at Finral. They're a good match."

"How did you even do it? As far as I know, you're still to be married to her."

I looked up at the sky, closing my eyes briefly. "Miss Finesse and I agreed to not say anything until Finral proved himself worthy to be the next head. But she gives you her blessing."

(y/n) looked up at me with a startled glance. "But-"

Before she could finish her sentance, a portal appeared to reveal my mother and father.

"YOU!" Father screeched. "You slut. Get away from our son this instant!"

Reader POV

I looked at Lord Ledior and Lady Liliane Vaude.

They were both staring at me with disgust and hatred.

I sighed and looked back at Langris. "Don't try anymore, Vaude. I know it will never work."

I turned around and walked through the portal, glancing once back at his shattered expression.

We both know we can never be togther.

But I couldn't help but feel the tattered feeling in my chest that felt like someone was holding a knife to my neck.

I got dressed and noticed I was still wearing his cloak.

I popped into his room and placed it neatly on his bed.

I bumped into Yuno on the way to breakfast and decided to eat with him and his trio.

It's for the best that I avoid Langris.

I saw Langris had made it back with a red mark on his cheek.

His eyes met mine and I tore my gaze away from his, looking back at Klaus who had become nicer to Yuno and I after the battle of the dungeon.

"Oi, (y/n)? Are you alright?" Klaus looked at me with concern. "You seem upset."

I looked up at him and gave him a sad smile. "I just lost someone I care about, but fate tore us apart."

Klaus exchanged looks with Mimosa who shrugged.

Timeskip to the War Merits Ceremony!

"(y/n), I would like you to come to the ceremony," Vangeance said.

I placed my book down and nodded. "Yes, captain."

"Oh, and (y/n)?" Vangeance took a seat next to me, staring at me with quizzical eyes. "What happened between you and the vice captain? I notice how you two aren't going on missions together and you've been joining Yuno and the trio."

I shrugged. "I find it easier to work with them instead of Langris."

"Oh? But you two seemed so happy together," Vangeance frowned. "What happened?"

"Life happened and I'd rather not waste my time with false hopes. We're not even friends, captain. We're just colleauges."

I could tell that he was upset, but didn't continue on with the conversation.

"Very well. I can't stop you from making your own decisions, young one." He stood up. "We'll be leaving in fifteen minutes, so I suggest go make any necessary preparations to do what you must."

He left the area and I used a portal to get to my room, putting on a special diamond necklace that my mother gave me long ago.

Flashback, Reader is age 4

"(y/n) darling!" My mother beckoned me to her side in the courtyard of the Diamond castle.

"Yes, Mother?"

She held up a (color) diamond necklace. "Here you go."

I stared at it with amazement. "But Mother, this is yours!"

"I know," she hugged me tightly. "But I trust you will take care of it. You know that the first Diamond queen wore this necklace on the day she was crowned the queen. Keep it safe with you forever, dear."

She placed it around my neck. "It's a fine necklace."

"But Mother, it's so heavy!"

Father chuckled and leaned down, placing his large hand onto my head and ruffled my hair. "You'll grow into it, dear. And not only that..." he used his snow magic and brought out a box where he kept the crown of the Diamond kingdom and placed it on my head. "You're the next ruler. I expect you shall grow nicely into these two articles."

They moved so I could stare at myself in the mirror, the diamonds glittering in the morning light.

"You're the proud Crown Princess of th Diamond Kingdom." He placed his hands on my shoulder, his (e/c) eyes glittering with pride. "And our daughter. Princess (y/n) Korenthan."

But then there was a crash and we heard the sounds of people screaming.

"GET TO THE TOWER AND KILL THEM!" We heard my father's best friend scream.

My father's eyes turned into raging infernos. "It's them. They really did betray us." He placed a magic seal on the door and turned to my mother. "Anika. I need you to take (y/n) and leave."

"But-"

"You must," he said and hugged us one final time. "You must not die! Live!"

He opened up a secret hatch that lead to the outskirts of the kingdom in a small village called Ravenstone.

"Go. I love you, Anika and (y/n)."

My mother kissed him one final time and scooped me up, the crown falling off my head.

"Mommy! The crown!"

My mother stopped briefly before looking away and running down the hidden staircase, the door closing behind us.

"We cannot go back and get it," she said to me. "But you keep that necklace, darling. Keep it and never let it fall into the hands of your enemies."

I felt a cold rush of air and saw the howling winds and the falling snow.

We heard a piercing screech and my mother grabbed the sword she always carried at her side as she was born with no magic.

"Run, (y/n)!" She told me. "Run and don't you dare look back!"

I heard the sound of shadow wolves commonly used by the royal court to track down fugitives and they were controlled by my father's best friend, Morris.

I was frozen when I saw my mother shot down in the head by an arrow enforced with cursed magic.

I felt someone grab my shoulders and try to rip off the necklace, but it never happened.

"Tcht. The princess of the Diamond castle, the very last Korenthan," Morris spat on the ground. "You're nothing now, girl."

And I was forced into an experiment the government wanted to force everyone to get stronger.

I made friends with a pair named Mars and Fana.

I grew close with them and they knew me, just not who I was.

They had cursed my father who I found out was being controlled as a puppet.

The last time I saw him, he was literally under the control of Morris and condemed us all to die in a final experiment where there would be only survivor.

But that was the day I escaped.

"Come with me," I said as I held my hand out to the pair.

"We can't go!" Mars whispered urgently. "But you must! You're the most important! Go! Get help and claim back the throne!"

I squeezed their hands. "I'll come back for you, I promise!"

And I fled.

But I was recaptured before I could even step foot outside of the gates of the building we were kept in.

"You, girlie, are someone special." A mage with entraptment magic said as he tied me to a bed. "You're going to be the future of our nation."

He took a mage who I knew and killed him, transferring their spacial magic to my grimoire.

It was the longest nights I ever lived.

I heard his screams in my ears long after he buried underneath a shallow pile of dirt that I was forced to dig with my bare hands.

But as soon as the men turned around, I summoned up magic and attacked them, or at least tried to.

I was knocked out instantly and when I woke up again, there were diamonds on my forehead.

"Congragulations, Princess," a man said as he fixed his glasses. "You have been accepted as the leader of the Nine Shining Generals."

Months later, I was allowed to leave the building and commanded the shining generals, none who questioned my orders.

But I tried so hard to make them revolt against the government as we were the nation's top magic users.

"We can't keep doing this!" I slammed my hands on the table, glaring at them.

Ladros scoffed. "Then go. We don't want you here. You're a girl."

Mars glared at him. "She may be a girl, but she's stronger than all of us. If you have an issue, then fight her and I."

I put my hand up. "If any of you wish to fight me, do it. But I'm done." I placed my hand over the diamonds on my forehead and shattered them, stepping over them with my black boots. "I'm done with this."

"What?! Where the hell are you going?!" Ladros spat. "You can't abandon your people!"

I turned back and stared at him with a blank stare. "I'm not abandoning my people. But I'm not strong enough to take back my rights as the ruler."

"You are our future queen!" He screamed. "You cannot go!"

I glared at him with sorrow. "I am no queen, nor princess. I am just a normal human being like you. Without my people supporting me, I am nothing. Mars, I leave it up to you."

He nodded. "Understood."

I gazed at the once innocent people in the room tarnished by tragedy. "I will return one day. And I will be stronger. I promise."

And I exited through a portal, running as I fast as I could, never looking back.

Not once.

Three weeks later, I found myself at the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom, protecting children from being abducted for the experiments I was forced to take part of.

I swore right then and there I would return no matter what and bring with me the forces of the Clover Kingdom and anyone else willing to help.

Or I would die trying.

End of Flashback

Langris stared at me with an annoyed expression as we rode on Klaus' steel chariot to the war merits ceremony.

"What happened between you two?" Miimosa whispered to me.

I glanced at her and sighed. "Fate tore us apart."

She seemed to accept that answer and Yuno patted my shoulder in a comforting manner.

It was time to move on.

We weren't anything but colleagues tied together by the strings of fate.

I could stretch it as long as I wanted to, but it would never snap.

And if it meant giving up my happiness to ensure he wouldn't regret anything, then so be it.

This is the end, Langris Vaude.

From here on out, we are nothing.

Just comrades.

I kept repeating the same things in my head while knowing fully well that I was hurting.

But I could manage to hurt a bit more.
