[4] His Secret

HAHA 4 UPDATES WTF

Reader POV

I was awakened by screaming. I rushed out to the balcony where I heard Langris screaming.

He was being slapped by a woman.

"YOU INSOLENT BOY! YOU CANNOT LOVE A PEASANT!! YOU HAVE A FIANCÉ!! A NOBLE FIANCÉ!" The lady shouted.

I ran up to them, not caring I wasn't dressed properly. "Hey! What's the big idea!"

"(y/n)-"

The man turned to me with anger in his eyes. "So you're the witch who tampered with my son's heart?!"

My eyes turned wide. "No, I-"

He then summoned his grimoire and started to place a spacial magic attack but I easily blocked it. "You insolent peasant! How did you make it into the Golden Dawn!!"

"Mother! Father! Stop! This isn't (y/n)'s fault!" Langris pleaded.

My eyes widened further. These people...were his parents!!

"You're just as bad as your failure brother!!" Lady Vaude shouted. "You still have another lesson to learn, boy!! You should not be near a peasant! Brushing her hair! Going to town with her! Even sharing a meal together! No!"

"You're wrong,"

All of us turned around to see Captain Vangeance and the rest of the squad on the balcony with us.

"Lord and Lady Vaude, I believe you are wrong." Captain Vegance said. His voice was smooth but carried authority. "If you do not like the way that your son has shown kindness, then I believe that you should exit the premises."

"But Vangeance-"

"Do you dare defy the captain of the Golden Dawn?" Vangeance said quietly. "I believe it is in your best interests to leave now."

Lord and Lady Vaude gave Langris a final slap. "We will continue this discussion later, son." Then they were gone.

I looked up at Langris. He was shaking and tears streamed down his face.

"Whoa...I've never seen him cry..." Rosseau gasped.

"Me either...and his parents...!" Torris added.

I went over to him. "Langris?"

He looked at me, malice in his eyes. "This is all your fault!!" He summoned his portal and zoomed out, leaving me in a state of shock along with the rest.

"Should I go fetch him?" Alicia asked. No one answered the earth-mage.

...

I was in my room, too sad to come out. My first 'kinda-sorta' friend just lashed out at me! It wasn't my fault...

"You cannot love a peasant!"

Lady Vaude's voice echoed in my ears.

Did Langris...love me?? I shook my head. It wasn't possible, right?

"You have a fiancé! A Noble Fiancé!"

I ran fingers through my (h/c) hair. No wonder. He was just toying with me. Another reason why I should have just avoided towns altogether.

There was a knocking at my door. "(y/n)? It's Captain Vangeance,"

I wiped my tears away. "Come in,"

The door opened and the captain walked into the room and sat on the chair by the desk. I was sitting on the bed. Aishubado was curled up on his ice nest that I had specially made for him.

"You know, you've changed sour old Langris," Vangeance said gently. "He's still rough around the edges, but inside, I think we both know that he's just insecure."

"But that's not a reason to lash out at me!"

He nodded. "I agree. He had no right to do so." He tapped his chin. "I believe punishment is at hand. I think that the windows need to be washed, eh?"

"Huh?"

He smirked slightly. "If anyone misbehaves in my squad, they beautify the place. Last time, Loraine had to scrub all the hardwood floors since she got so drunk and was flirting with Wizard King Julius." Vangeance sighed. "You can imagine how embarrassing that must have been for me,"

I nodded. "Okay."

Vangeance got up to leave but before he did, he said; "Oh, and (y/n)? You're a very talented mage. Do not let anyone discourage you from your full potential." Then he left the room, closing the door after me. Just as he did, I saw a portal appear on the balcony.

I looked at the clock. It was 8:23 PM. Around the time I would stargaze. But I didn't feel like it today.

Langris appeared from the portal and it dissapeared behind him. He looked around, obviously for me. When he didn't see me, he came to my side of the door and knocked.

I didn't want to talk to him so I used my magic to shut all the blinds.

Langris POV

I stepped out of the portal. I had just comforted my parents. I forced them to change their minds since they were so stuck up about tradition.

I looked around for (y/n) since this is the time she always was on the balcony stargazing with me.

Except this night was different. She wasn't here. I walked over to her double-doors that led to her chambers and knocked.

The shades were drawn using magic.

I sighed and sat outside her door. "I know you can hear me, (y/n). I'm sorry I said that." No response. "Fine, I'll just stay here until you talk to me."

An hour passed and eventually, I fell asleep.

"Come inside, you'll catch a cold, you idiot."

My eyes flashed open and (y/n) was standing in front of me. The door was open behind us.

I followed her in. She tossed me a blanket and I wrapped myself around it.

"You're so stupid, Langris. You're not used to this cold. Of course you're going to shiver and shake as you did." (y/n) said.

I dragged myself onto her carpet and in front of the fireplace. "Thanks," I grumbled.

"No problem, but after you're done, I want you out of my room."

"But what if I'll never be done?"

She sighed. "Fine." She warned me not to disturb Aishubado and teleported to another area. The lights outside flicked which meant she was in my room since the other chambers were either occupied or strictly enforced to stay out of.

Reader POV

I teleported into his room. It was actually very pleasant. I thought it would be gloomy and dark, but it wasn't.

It was basically the same setup as mine, but his sheets were a dark navy. I then cursed.

"Fuck. I forgot to get a change of clothes." Sighing, I teleported back to my room. I smiled a bit when I saw that Langris was asleep on the carpet, the blanket still around him.

He looked so freaking adorable!

I tip-toed to the wardrobe, but it made a horrible creaking sound when I tried to open it. I tried to use magic to muffle it, but it didn't work.

"Well, screw it." I went back to his room. "I'm sure he won't mind if I borrow one of his shirts." I made haste changing into a large white shirt and got into the bed.

It smelled sweet. Just like him. Of course, I've spent lots of time with the cold-hearted mage that with my surprisingly strong sense of smell, I would know his scent. It was weird, but whatever.

...

"(y/n)!!!"

I was awakened. "AHHH!"

"AHH!!!"

Langris and I stared at eachother.

"What are you doing in my bed?!" He then touched the shirt's sleeve. "Why are you wearing my clothes?!

"Langris, I swear it's not what it looks like-"

"Care to explain then?" Rosseau and Romel asked. "We've been waiting for you two to wake up, but now I know where you've been~"

"Oh god..."

Both of us went red. The situation must have looked very bad. Langris on the bed (it looked like he was pinning me down), my clothes discarded by the fireplace, both our hair messy, and I was wearing his shirt.

Not to mention I was a newbie member and he was the vice captain!

"No!! I swear, we didn't do anything!!" Both of us said at the exact same time.

"I was too-"

Romel held up a hand. "I don't want to know. What you do on your own time is your business. Now, the Captain wants to speak with you, Langris."

________

"So, what happened last night?" Romel and Rosseau teased as we headed out to fetch some cheese for our dinner party tonight.

"Nothing!"

"Oh??"

I explained to them what happened and was thankfully not interrupted.

"Oh, so nothing spicy?" Romel asked, disappointed.

I shook my head. "Good grief, I'm only sixteen!"

"I guess..." Rosseau brightened. "I still ship it soo hard!!"

"Same!!!!!"

I slapped my forehead. "You're so far into the dark that no amount of light can save you, idiots."

Little did I know was that Langris heard every single word that was passed.

The captain called us to his office after dinner since we would be leaving tomorrow morning.

"You two will be expected to stick close together," he said. "And I do not care what your relationship is right now, the mission comes first."

He was saying this more to him since he was glaring at me.

"Yes, sir." Langris moved away from me, standing in his normal place.

The captain eyed me. "Do you understand, (y/n)?"

"I do."

He nodded. "Then you are dismissed."

I followed Langris out and tapped his shoulder in the moonlit courtyard, the fountain's water hitting the surface. "Langris?"

He turned around and stared at me with an uninterested stare. "What do you want, peasant filth?"

I frowned. "Don't be so rude, Langris."

"What? I'm just saying. Need I remind you that I am your senior and above rank?"

I gripped my wrist and ice formed. "What are you saying?"

"Whatever the fuck you thought we were before, you're wrong. We are nothing."

I felt my heart hurt a bit. "Oh?" I took a step back, the air growing cold and the fountain stopped moving, turning into ice.

"I expect you to not get in my way tomorrow. I don't know why Julius wants you to come with me and the other vice-captain." He shook his head, a glare meeting my gaze. "You're nothing."

And he turned around to go to his bedroom, not looking back once.

I closed my eyes and took deep breaths, not letting my emotions get out of control again.

He's right.

We're just comrades.

Not even friends.

I made my way to my bedroom and ran into Yuno on the way.

"(y/n)," he nodded respectfully to me. "How are you?"

"I'm fine."

"You're lying to me," he said with a bored expression. "Come on, I want to show you something. Don't take it as me being friendly, I'm just making sure you're on your A-Game."

I followed him to the garden tower. "What's this all about?"

He pointed to a rose in the shape of a Diamond. "You're from the Diamond Kingdom, aren't you?"

I shook my head. "No...?"

"Don't lie to me," he said. "I know you must be the very last. I found it suspicious when you looked just like the previous queen, but with different eyes." He held up a book about the royalty of the four nations.

"But I find it strange that there are no records of the Spade royal family," he said. "The pages were torn out."

I closed my eyes. "Well, I don't know what to say to that."

Yuno closed the book and gave it to me. "Something about you seems tragic. You know I am here to talk if you want, you know that?"

"Thank you, Yuno." I sat down and started looking at the pages, noticing how he was sitting closer to me.

"Hey, (y/n)?"

"Hm?"

"You and the vice captain. Are you a team? I notice you two are getting closer."

I shrugged. "Probably not. He likes to go solo and no issue with that."

"Right. Well, Klaus and Mimosa have extended an invitation to you to join our trio."

"Really?"

He nodded. "Yep. Don't give me your answer right now, think about it." He stood up, a faint glow in his amber eyes. "Something about you is comforting. I would very much like to know you more. Only if you'll allow me."

"I will, but Yuno..."

"I know, I won't speak a word about what we discussed..." he bowed slightly. "Your Highness."
