[38] The Greatest Legacy

Fallon POV (age 21, 1 year after your death)

I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my collar.

Today was my coronation day.

"Are you excited?" Coldbane asked me.

"Yeah," I said. "Just a bit nervous."

He chuckled and helped me put on my war merits. "You know, your mother was also very nervous the day she became queen."

"Really? My mother?" I found it hard to believe since I only knew her to be the strong woman that everyone looked up to.

"Indeed. My niece was so nervous that King Yuno himself had to help her out of the castle." Winston sighed, letting out a cold puff of air. "He loved your mother for the longest time. I'm sure he still loves her. They were very close and served in the defense for the Clover kingdom with your father."

"Oh yeah. I remember Dad saying how they served in the Golden Dawn before Mom went to take her throne after the war with the Dark Triad and Yuno to reclaim his throne."

"Yes. Both Yuno and your mother shared similar stories, but Fate designed your mother and father to be together." My mother's uncle looked bittersweet as he remembered the memories that happened a year before I was born.

He placed his hands on my shoulder, staring at me with pride and determination. "And now you're going to take her place in the world today."

"I don't know if I'm ready," I confessed. "I'm nowhere near as strong as she is-"

"Shut your mouth, boy. You're far more powerful than you think. Strength isn't measured by your mana nor by your physical strength. It's measured by your emotions that you possess for your people."

"That's right,"

We both looked to see my father holding a box that had my name written on it. "Hi, Fall."

"Hey Dad."

He sat down on my bed and motioned me to do the same. "Your mother and I were going to give this to you the day you became king. Her and I talked about her stepping down when you 25, but I suppose you'll be fine as king at 21."

"Oh?" I took hold of the box and traced my fingers around it.

"Go ahead, open it."

I did as my father said, tearing up when

I did so and there was a letter on top of wrapping paper.

I opened it and saw my mother's familar handwriting along with a heart.

To my dear firstborn Fallon Astro Korenthan Vaude.

You're finally going to be crowned king! Isn't that exciting??

I know you probably feel nervous.

Heck, I was also nervous when I became queen.

You ask yourself these questions: are you good enough? Will you serve your people? Are you strong enough?

Well guess what, darling? You are.

You're my son and I've seen you grow up since day one.

I carried you for nine months and even then, I knew you were going to be the future of the kingdom.

I'm so proud of you, Fallon, I really am.

I've seen you interact with our people as well as your siblings who all adore you.

But I need you to protect them when I'm gone, okay? Take care of your father as well since we both know he's a worrywart.

Oh, and do me a favor and find someone to love, eh?

Don't make your poor mother worry if her son will never know love with another.

Good luck, my son.

Queen (y/n) Augustine Seline Vaude Korenthan

I held the paper close to my heart, handing it to my father to read.

I removed the tissue wrap and saw a beautiful book with the symbol of House Korenthan.

I opened the book and saw the old ruinic writing of the Diamond Monarchs used until the fifth Diamond Queen.

But on the first page was letters written in the old ruinic writing by the very first Diamond king hundreds of years ago.

I translated it and it said 'Greetings, new monarch. The time has come for you to follow in the footsteps of our ancestors and take your place in the world. Have no fear and just go right into it. You know what to do'.

All of them wrote how excited they were to become kings and queens, each writing down their feelings.

All the pages had their inner thoughts as well as their faces drawn out.

I flipped ahead to the thirty-first page where a portrait of my mother was painted as well as her thoughts written down.

I turned the page and saw a picture of myself and wrote down some things.

When I was done with that, I put the book back and picked up my mother's amulet that was passed down through the family.

I put it on with the help of my father who was crying but also smiling.

"You're ready," he said.

We arrived at the Hall of Kings at the Reina district.

Along the way, I couldn't help but think of my mother's funeral.

Flashback

It was a very cold day when my mother was laid to rest.

Alexi held Yuki's hand while my father and I knelt before my mother's grave, each of us cryig.

"Farewell, my love." The husband and soulmate of the late Queen said, throwing her favorite flower onto her grave and the mages buried her.

"Goodbye, Mother." I said, stepping back to my three youngest siblings who are much too young to understand that their mother was gone.

Especially Alexi.

He was crying the loudest and sought comfort in Gray.

Eren Grinberryall was standing with his father, both of they paying their repsects to my mother.

Other royals and high nobles were at the funeral, as well as my mother and father's old comrades from the Clover kingdom.

"I promise I will always look out for our family," I heard Father swear to my mother.

Knowing he truly was broken, I guided my siblings away, bringing them into the warmth.

Inside the castle's ballroom, I took a look outside and saw in the distance King Yuno Grinberryall and my father standing side by side together.

They'll be okay.

We'll be okay.

End of Flashback

The coronation ceremony took place at the very place all my ancestors were crowned.

"Is your Majesty willing to take the Oath?" The arch bishop had the bible at the ready once we were finished with the other ceremonious things.

"I am willing," I said as I bowed my head, the hall going silent except for the symphony orchestra who were all vocalizing.

"Will you solemnly promise and swear to govern the Peoples of the Diamond Kingdom, the Witches' Forest and of your Possessions and the other Territories to any of them belonging or pertaining, according to their respective laws and customs?" (This was said at Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953, so please go with it. I know very well that not all these places were under rule of the British Crown in the 19th century, just go with it)

"I solemnly promise to do so."

"Will you to your power cause Law and Justice, in Mercy, to be executed in all your judgements?"

"I will."

"Will you to the utmost of your power maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel? Will you to the utmost of your power maintain in the Diamond Kingdom the Reformed Religion established by law? Will you maintain and preserve inviolably the settlement of the Church of Diamond, and the doctrine, worship, discipline, and government thereof, as by law established in Diamond? And will you preserve unto the Bishops and Clergy of Diamond, and to the Churches there committed to their charge, all such rights and privileges, as by law do or shall appertain to them or any of them?"

"All of these I promise."

I stood and with the Sword of the State being carried before me, I knelt down and laid my right hand on the book of rulers, the scepter and globe placed back on the cushion.

"The things which I have here before promised, I will perform and keep. So help me God."

The arch bishop placed the coronation crown of the Diamond Kingdom on my head, all five points representing the five districts, saying something in the ancient ruinic language spoken by the first Diamond king.

I kissed and signed the book, my name joining many others who ruled before me, as well as my mother.

A page took the book to give to the Dean of Hall of Kings, the place where all coronations took place under the eyes of God and the people.

""By birthright, I hereby pronounce Crown Prince Fallon Astro Korenthan Vaude the King of Diamond and all her territories. Arise, King Fallon Astro Korenthan Vaude. The Diamond King."

My siblings were all cheering loudly, as was the rest of the family.

My cousins Dawn and Kalem were with their parents Finral and Finesse Calmreich Vaude, waving to me enthusiastically.

Eren nodded to me respectfully since he would be crowned soon as well.

The entire audience hall clapped as I stood to my full height and walked down the aisle.

A carriage was waiting to bring me around the kingdom.

I waved through the windows as mages protected me from any attacks.

Later at night, I was called to the throne with my eldest sister Yuki and my father escorting me.

I took my seat on my mother's throne, getting flashbacks of me very little.

Flashback

"Fall, come here!" My mother held her arms out to me, wearing her crown and other important things.

I crawled towards her on the carpet, my father right behind me in case anything happened.

I managed to stand up and collapse in her arms as she picked me up and placed me on her lap.

"Someday, Fall. Someday you'll sit on this throne," she said as she lovingly booped my nose. "And when that day comes, you'll be very calm."

End of Flashback

I had so many fond memories in this castle, especially looking at all the portraits of my ancestors in the eastern wing as well as looking at the six amulets my mother made at the time for the war against the Dark Triad.

I hope you're watching me right now, Mom.

I took a deep breath and addressed the people in the room who were looking at me expectantly.

"Greetings, citizens of the Diamond kingdom. Today marks the new age of another monarch to guide our people to a brighter and brighter future ahead. Today, I assumed the throne as my birthright. But today, I also realized something: I am just like each and every single one of you. With hopes. Dreams." I gestured to everyone.

"Visions! Of the future. One where we can coexist peacefully. I may not be my mother, but as her son, I promise you this: I will never leave anyone behind. Rich, poor, young, old, human, elf, or witch. No one. I swear it by the blood in my veins that I will someday become a fine ruler, worthy of the title as king."

"We already made a bridge to connect each other, but now let's go forward and fortifiy this bridge even more. I believe that as a country, we can do it. We are the proud Diamond citizens! With our new age of technology and everyone able to make use of themselves, we can achieve our dreams! I beseech you all right now: let us pause for a moment to reflect on our actions in the past so we may all move forward. Together."

It was silent for a bit when I spoke again, glancing at my father who was wiping his eyes from the tears.

"Today, I took the oath of Diamond. I will live by these rules and promise a better today, tomorrow, and forever. For everyone."

I ended the speech by standing up and bowing to my people who all began to clap.

I sat back down as the music started and people started to dance.

"Well said," Dad said to me as he leaned closer to me. "I believe I've never heard a finer speech."

"Thank you, Father."

"I have high expectations for you," Yuki teased me as our younger siblings ran around the ballroom, eagerly seeing their noble and commoner friends.

I rolled my eyes at my younger sister. "Yeah, yeah."

"No, seriously! I'd better become an aunt soon."

"HUH???"

She winked at me and the doors opened to reveal my childhood best friend Dawn Silva, daughter of Nozel Silva.

I stood up and ran towards her, scooping her up. "Dawn!"

"Fall!" She hugged me tightly, both of us laughing as I spun us around. "It's been so long!"

Langris POV

I watched my children together, standing beside Winston Coldbane who was getting on in his years and my old rival Yuno Grinberryall.

"It seems we're just getting older and older," Yuno said to me with a fond smile as he watched his son interact with Gray. "I expect we'll be grandparents soon enough."

"Shut the hell up," I rolled my eyes. "We're not that old."

"Says you. You're almost 45."

"And? You're 40."

"Yeah, we're old now." Yuno shook his head with amusement. "And we're not getting any younger."

Coldbane placed his armored gloves on our shoulders. "You two did well for yourselves. You've raised fine families. I've no worries for the future of our kingdoms."

Yuno and I went silent as we listened to the wise elder.

"You should be proud of yourselves. Not everyone can say they've got good kids and don't have to worry about the futures of their kingdoms or bloodline." He started walking away. "I believe I can retire soon enough. I'm not getting any younger."

Yuno and I watched him go, shaking our heads with amusement at the old man.

"Damn. To believe he's almost 80 and still hasn't kicked the bucket. Good for him."

"Indeed."

As I danced with my eldest daughter, I couldn't help but want to cry.

I never imagined sharing this life with (y/n), much less having a family.

No one's POV

A bond formed by soulmates is inbreakable.

It's written by Fate itself to move the world forward to a brighter horizon.

The former Prince Consort of the Diamond Kingdom born into Cloverian nobility went on to teach at Diamond and Clover schools of magic.

He spent the rest of his days beside his family, especially pleased when his son got married to Lady Dawn Silva.

His grandchildren and great grandchildren all went on to become very powerful mages and defended their kingdom.

Gray ended up marrying Eren Grinberryall, the couple adopting a son and daughter.

Princess Yuki Eira married into House Vermillion, marrying Kirsch Vermillion's son.

Prince Keiji became a schoolteacher and his twin sister Princess Keiko replaced Genral Winston Coldbane as the head of the Diamond military, marrying Asta's son.

Coldbane himself died at the old age of 92, happy to spend his last days with his family.

Prince Alexi worked alongside his eldest brother Fallon for the good of their kingdom, becoming a dipolmat. He wore the Diamond necklace in a smaller form, eventually passing it onto his daughter.

King Fallon ruled with the wisest ideas and could be seen with his three children and beloved wife.

His firstborn named Princess (y/n) Augustine II was crowned the Queen and lived up to her grandmother's legacy, taking pride in her family lineage.

The greatest legacy was passed down through the generations as well as the god magic that both Fallon, (y/n), and (y/n) the Second all inherited and would continue to be so for centuries to come.

As for the former Prince Consort, he died at the age of 94.

His last words were to his wife.

(y/n). I'm here.

He was buried next to his wife and rumors said that the two star-crossed lovers were seen dancing together in the palace. But before anyone was sure, they disappeared.

Indeed, Langris Vaude was no longer Cold-Hearted.
