[33] Tensions Rising

Reader POV

I followed Fallon's mana trail, already knowing my son had so much magic even at three months old.

"Where could you be..." I knew he was somewhere in the Spade kingdom, but this wasn't my kingdom and therefore, I had to ask Yuno for permission to search.

"You can't be here!" A guard said to me, bowing respectfully to me at the gate of the castle.

I shook my head. "Just go ask Yuno."

"(y/n)." Said wind mage was with his son, on a tornado throne. "What are you doing in my kingdom? And more importantly, what the hell is that?" He pointed to the Diamond kingdom where the ice shield was.

"May I speak to you in private?" I asked him.

"I'm rather busy-"

"Yuno, my son is gone. As a father yourself, I'm sure you can understand my urge to find Fallon."

He clenched his teeth and told Eren to go finish training.

Eren blew me a kiss but I ignored his antics. "Yuno, I need you to tell me where you were last night."

"Right. I was asleep. And I'm sure you were as well."

"Not the time for you shit," I spat. "My son went missing last night. And the mark of your kingdom was in his bed. Along with a pool of blood."

Yuno's aura got dark. "Are you accusing me of stealing your son?"

"I don't know what to believe. So I am politely asking you for permission to search your kingdom."

"Korenthan, you know I'd never steal your child. I may have my disagreements with your kingdom and your husband, but to accuse me of something so low?" He shook his head with frustration. "You're really pissing me off."

I glared at him, a sword made of the sharpest ice appearing in  my hands. "Grinberryall, I've had it with your sass. For the past three months, you've been quite the thorn in my side. I don't care what it takes, Grinberryall. I will find my son. And if I must fight you for the right as a mother to find her son, then so be it."

"Are you suggesting a spar?" He asked me.

"It's up to you," I said. "But I refuse to let my son go. But should you feel the need to fight me for this right, then you not only revoke our friendship but our alliance. This is something that can't be ignored, Grinberryall."

He sighed and lowered his guard, sending a signal to the guards surrounding me in case I attacked their king. "Fine. I'll allow you to search my kingdom for your son. Under the agreement that you will not harm anyone."

"Are you serious?!" I threw my hands up, recalling my magic except the ice armor. "Who do you take me as? I'd never harm your people."

"Yet the border disputes beg to differ."

What the fuck crawled up his ass? Why is he being so salty? Normally he's sweet.

"Dearest Yuno," I said. "You'd be wise not to let the prospect of being a king get to your head."

"I'd say the same to you, Queen Korenthan."

I searched his amber eyes for a hint of teasing, but there was only coldness.

This wasn't the Yuno I was used to seeing on a daily basis, much less the one who I went to whenever I needed a shoulder to cry on.

"Fine. If you must go with me, then let's go. I want no delay in finding Fallon. Something I'm sure you'd understand should Eren go missing."

"Are you suggesting Eren will go missing?" Yuno was about to grab my shoulder but I ducked, glaring at him.

"No, you idiot. Jeez, you're a real prick right now." I shook my head. "What happened to the cute not-so-little Yuno who would beg to follow me around?"

Yuno stood up to his full height, annoyance in his eyes. "Well, you shouldn't have gotten used to that. Grow up, Korenthan."

"You're telling me to grow up?!" Disbelief was in my eyes. "You know what? Let's just go find Fallon. We can settle this disagreement some other time. My son is more important."

"Yep! And there she goes!" Yuno followed me into the sky. "The same selfish girl I've always known."

I ignored his rants, wondering what the fuck caused him to become so nasty.

"Winter God Magic: Blood Map of Hermes-Khorne." I pricked my finger and a huge map appeared as soon as I let the drop of blood onto the map.

This union spell allowed me to find anyone related to me by blood, living or dead.

The flames that appeared were black and white. The black being the dead and the white being the living.

The single living light appeared in the village of Ravenstone in the Spade kingdom.

"There." I left a streak of silver in the sky, heading right to Ravenstone.

Yuno followed me, anger in his aura.

But I could deal with him later.

I had more important things to worry about.

I heard Fallon's cries and dove right towards the sound, freezing everyone around him.

"Fallon!"

However, he was in the arms of someone with anti-magic that easily avoided my spell.

"So the queen herself arrives!" He threw Fallon into the air, not caring.

I caught him and transported him right to Finral who knew of the plan.

I also knew Fallon would be safe in the arms of his uncle in the clover kingdom.

"You've got some nerve," I spat. "Fucking prick."

He removed his hood, malice in his red eyes. "You think I fuckin' care? No, ma'am. You know, I've got some unfinished business with your family."

"And what is it?" I asked.

"Yes, what is it that you have Korenthan blocking off trade routes as well as incasing her kingdom in a thick dome of ice in addition to accusing me of stealing her son?" Yuno looked equally pissed. "And who the hell are you?"

"Does it matter?"

"Alright, enough of this shit." I smirked. "I've always wanted to try this spell since it appeared in my grimoire. See you in hell, fucker."

"HAHA! So you truly are blessed by the gods!"

"Winter God Magic: Gate of Gahenna Maxima!"

The devil allowed himself to go, smirking at me. "Know this, Korenthane brat. The war isn't over just yet. Humanity may have won the first three, but there's a lot more where we came from."

I kicked him through the gate, recalling the magic and bowing to Yuno, still hovoring in midair. "Thank you, Yuno."

"Get out of my kingdom. We may have been friends in the past, but that is the past."

"Okaaaay. So you're still pissed. Well, whatever. When you're ready to speak formally, you know where to find me." I opened a portal and exited after unfreezing the bandits, giving my ex-best friend a final look of disappointment.

I landed right on top of the dome of ice, tapping on it twice.

"Come on," I said. "Let go."

And the ice melted, me harnessing it into a huge ball of water that I threw into the ocean as rain.

I went to the clover kingdom where Finral was staring at Fallon.

"His eye..." Finral gently cleaned the blood from my son's face to reveal an empty eye socket.

I covered my mouth, taking a step back. "Oh my god...they took out his eye."

Finral handed Fallon to me, leaving through a portal to get to his brother.

Langris appeared in a portal moments later, Finral following.

"Let me see him," Langris said softly.

I shook my head, covering Fallon's eye.

Fallon didn't move at all, but he was alive.

"There's a way I can fix him," I said calmly. "Of course, I need a drop of your blood to do it."

"Of course." Langris pricked his finger as everyone in the Black Bulls got quiet, confusion as to why the Diamond royal family was in the middle of their base.

Yami especially was confused, but didn't comment.

"Hold it over his empty socket," I said.

Langris held his pinky up, a small dagger in his other hand.

"Now."

He pricked his finger and the single drop fell and I froze it.

"Winter God Magic: Aura of Asclepius."

An eye formed slowly in the empty socket, turning a beautiful aqua blue color.

Fallon began to move once the magic was done, starting to cry.

I held him close to me, whispering my thanks to the gods.

"You saved him," Langris whispered, leaning his head on his son's. "And he's okay."

"Yes, but I fear I have also made an enemy with Yuno." I shook my head. "Once tensions decrease, I will invite him over."

"Now, can anyone tell me why the hell we have the Korenthan-Vaude family here?" Yami asked, Gray and Gauche nodding in agreement.

I explained the situation to the gruff captain who shrugged.

"Well, next time keep an eye on that kid. Jeez, kids these days." He left the area, grumbling how his golden time was interrupted.

Langris and I returned to our castle, me not speaking a word to him despite him wanting to offer me comfort.

"Are you okay?" He asked me once Fallon was in his bed, snuggling with his favorite blanket.

"No. If we had found out too late, Fallon might be dead." I shook my head, a cold look on my face. "And I'm suspicious of Yuno now. Why did he not know he had a very devil in his kingdom? Surely he felt his aura? Something isn't right, Langris. And I'm going to find out."

He only hugged me, coaxing me into bed to get some rest as we didn't sleep. "I know you will. Come on, let's sleep now."

"How can I sleep?! Fallon-"

"Fallon is going to be okay," He said soothingly. "Nothing good will happen if our queen isn't on her A-game."

"I suppose-"

"Now shut up and sleep. Or do I have to make you?" He said in a teasing manner.

"Haha, very funny. No seriously. I'm fine-"

"(y/n), I know you too well. You need sleep. I will be right here, okay?"

"But-"

He pressed his lips to mine, leaning over and moving the blankets. "No buts. Sleep."

I sighed as he rested his body next to mine, wrapping his arms around me. "What did I do to deserve you?"

"You put up with my sarcasm. And love me. So there you go. You can't get rid of me."

"I know. I love you, Langris. Thank you."

"No, thank you. Now! Because I love you, I want you to go to sleep. Seriously."
