[31] The Next Heir
No One's POV
It was a warm August morning when the nurse walked out of the bedroom.
"Your Highness, you may go in."
The Prince Consort of the Diamond kingdom stood up, worry in his ocean-blue eyes. "Thank you."
His parents and brother Finral waited to follow, wanting to give the new family time to themselves.
Langris Vaude entered the bedroom he shared with his wife, seeing the maids cleaning up.
The gentle blow of the see-through curtains revealed his wife holding a baby.
The child had a few (h/c) hairs on their face, their tiny eyes closed.
"Congragulations Your Majesties," the head midwife said with a gentle but tired smile. "You've a healthy baby boy."
The nurses left, closing the door gently behind them.
The young Queen allowed her husband to pick their son up, a look of happiness and worrisome for the health of his wife.
"Are you okay?" He asked her. "Does it hurt?"
"Of course it does. But I'm fine. We both are."
"Good. I'm very happy to hear that." He leaned over and kissed her lips. "I'm so proud of you, you know."
"I know. I love you, Langris."
"I love you most, (y/n)." He sat down on the bed, placing his hands on his son's face. "He's so tiny."
"Right?" The Queen sat up, a tired expression on her face. "I suppose we should name him?"
"Fallon Korenthan-Vaude," Langris said. "It's the name you chose, right?"
(y/n) nodded, a smile on her face. "Fallon for a boy or girl. Meaning 'from a ruler'."
[Fallon: fawl-len]
"A fine name," Langris tickled the newborn prince.
Meanwhile, a servant ran down the castle halls, ignoring the groans of annoyances from the cleaners. "A prince! A healthy prince was born!"
He ran out the castle, using his magic to get to the different districts and territotires on top of a wind bird.
"A prince! A prince was born!"
The people of the kingdom all began to excitedly talk amongst themselves, some quickly sending messages to the other kingdoms.
In less than an hour, all four kingdoms knew of the birth of the next heir to the Diamond throne.
Vangeance who was having tea with Patri looked at his best friend, smiles on their faces.
"It seems we're just getting older and older," William said to the elf who nodded in agreement.
"It's August 1st," Patri thought about it, his eyes filling with tears. "The day my little sister and Ratri got engaged."
In another area, King Yuno Grinberryal was overjoyed to hear that his closest friend had given birth to a healthy son.
"How lovely," he said as he read the official report that the Diamond royal palace sent out to the monarchs.
Eren Grinberryal looked up at his father, a frown on his face. "Papa, how are babies made?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out when you're much older."
"Yeah, alright! But you'd better tell me!"
"I will. But when you're much older."
The people in the Diamond research facility also were overjoyed at the news.
"Man it feels like yesterday we were in that ghastly experiment building," Fana shivered. "To think she'd really become the queen, end the war, end the damn experiments, and become a mother?"
Mars shook his head. "That's (n/n) for you. That girl's always doing something to go beyond. Plus Ultra."
"Huh?" Sally looked at the silver-haired male with confusion. "What's Plus Ultra?"
"Something from an anime called 'My Hero Academia' or 'Boku no Hero Academia'."
Meanwhile in the Clover kingdom, the royal houses Vermillion and Silva celebrated with joy.
"To think she used to be a commoner. Now she's a queen and mother. Good for her," Fuegeleon said as he watched his younger brother spar with some teammates.
Reader POV
Langris's parents and Finral entered the room, all of them staring at Fallon who was asleep in his cradle, a pale silver blanket on it.
"How adorable," Lord Ledior whispered.
"I must say, your son truly looks adorable. He'll be a handsome prince," Lady Liliane said.
I glanced at her, watching them carefully.
Finral, on the other hand, attacked his brother with a hug. "I'm so proud of you, Langris! You've really done it!"
"Shh!" Langris hissed. "You'll wake my son. And get your grubby hands off me!"
"But Langris-"
"Did I stutter?!"
"Boys," I said sternly. "Don't fight. I don't want Fallon's first encounter with his family to be one where Finral and his father fight!"
"Gomen, gomen!" Finral got off his brother, peeking into the cradle. "Wow! He's so tiny,"
"You were also that tiny," Ledior said, a gentle smile on his face.
Finral quieted down, not used to hearing his father speak nicely to him.
"You both were tiny," Ledior nodded to Langris as well.
"Indeed," Liliane agreed. "Now, the first order of business. My dear daughter-in-law, who shall be the godmother of such a beautiful child?"
"I was thinking of Fana" I said. "She's been with me since I was young. And if Rosseau were still alive..."
"A fine decision." She gently lifted the blanket, seeing her first grandchild. "He is a beautiful son. You are lucky."
Despite me not liking Langris's mother that much, I still respected her since she was of noble birth and the mother of the one I loved the most.
"So..." Finral started, but everyone grew quiet when Fallon started to move, reaching his tiny hands out to his uncle.
"There's something else I want to tell you," Langris said to Finral. "But I suppose that can wait until it's just us. Regarding that."
"Ah, I see!"
I looked at the brothers with confusion, but didn't comment.
"So, shall we go?" Ledior turned to his wife and Finral. "We should let them have their own time together."
The three Vaudes left the room, leaving us to our own selves.
"He's so tiny," Langris had a worried aspect in his voice. "Are you sure he'll be fine?"
"Of course, he's your son." I snuggled into bed, feeling quite tired. "But dear, I just gave birth an hour ago. I believe I shall be heading to rest."
Langris climbed into bed with me, a new gentleness in his eyes. "Alright. I'll be here when you wake up."
I closed my eyes, feeling a sense of peace.
I now had my own family, one I would treasure above anything else and protect with every single drop of my blood.
When I woke up next, it was around 2 pm and Langris was rocking Fallon in his cradle.
He was humming, his eyes closed and his hair slightly messy.
I got out of bed quite slowly, using my magic to heal myself. "I see you two are bonding."
He opened his eyes slowly. "We are. It seems Fallon has your beautiful (e/c) eyes. The spitting image of you."
"Oh? Lovely." I sat down on the rocking chair next to the crib, sleep still in my eyes.
"May I?" Langris walked over to me, retrieving a cooling blanket from our bed. "It's rather hot out. I know you're a winter mage, but-"
I nodded. "You may. Thank you."
He wrapped me in the cooling blanket, ringing a bell.
Moments later, a servant came in with a cart of food.
I gently picked Fallon up, taking note of his weight. "My my, you're going to be one strong guy when you get older."
"So, when shall we get him christened?"
I looked down at my son who was opening his eyes slowly. "Maybe in two weeks or so. He's so tiny! It's adorable."
"Yeah..." I could tell Langris was nervous to hold him so I shook my head with amusement.
"Would you like to hold him?"
"Can I?"
"Of course. He's your son as well."
Langris accepted me passing our son to him, his eyes watering with tears. "You know, I never pictured you'd actually like me, much less marry and start a family with."
"Why not?" I asked.
"You know why."
"True...but beyond that annoying and somewhat arrogant exterior, I see something beautiful."
The male simply nodded, our attention being brought to our son who was opening his eyes.
As the afternoon fell into nighttime, I placed a protective spell around Fallon who was very quiet.
"He's so quiet," Langris frowned. "Are you sure he's fine?"
"Why wouldn't he be? Not all babies are crybabies, dear."
"Huh. How would you know that?"
"Because I've worked as a midwife during the war when I wasn't kicking ass. Now, I bet you were a crybaby~"
"I was not!" He frowned, rolling over.
I smirked up at him. "Wanna bet?"
"Oh hell yeah! I can ask your uncle if you were a crybaby!"
I chuckled at his defensive behaviour. "Oh Langris, I'm sure I was. On some level. But at least I can admit it~"
"That's it, you're being irritating." He started pressing kisses to my neck, smirking.
I stuck my tongue at him. "Haha, very funny. But not tonight. I just gave birth, damn it! At least wait a week."
He groaned with annoyance. "Fine. But you won't get away from me. I can still make you go wild-even without putting it in."
I pushed my husband off me. "No! We are not having sex with our son nearby!"
"Yet you didn't care when I fucked you in the throne room or the library. Everyone nearby heard us~"
I hit his side. "Shut up!"
"Never."
Langris POV
Hours passed and I was restless.
I looked over at the figure of my wife who was sleeping soundly.
I sat up and walked over to Fallon, noting how (y/n)'s magic allowed me to pass through the strong barrier. "Hello, Fall [Fawl]."
The child was sleeping, his chubby cheeks pressed against the softness of the cradle.
"Damn...I really am a dad." I sat down next to the cradle, just gazing down at my sleeping son.
Thank you, Fate.
I remembered (y/n)'s words: Fate tore us apart, but brought us back together.
I can only hope Fate is merciful for the remainder of our lives.
Just me, (y/n), and Fallon.
And perhaps if Fallon has siblings, then them as well.
