[28] A Queen

Reader POV

I was signing the divorce papers in Julius's office as we agreed that I would get married to the younger Vaude on the day of my coronation.

"I understand that I will be getting married to you in two days," I said to Langris who nodded.

"Yep. And now burn those files because you're never signing a divorce paper ever again."

Julius laughed a bit and put the files away. "And you know I won't be attending in person given I'm a kid, right? Or at least physically?"

"Yep, but I expect you'll be watching it though the holgram," I teased the wizard king.

"I wouldn't miss it," he said. "We hadn't had the crowning or a royal wedding in over 20 years. I remember watching your parents get married when I was a kid. Now that was something I'll never forget. Not to mention a transition of power."

"I still can't believe I'm actually going to become a queen," I said. "I've known I would someday take back my kingdom, but it just feels unreal that in two day's time, I will no longer be just a crown princess. And married!"

"We're already married-well technically divorced now. But you know what I mean," Langris said as we exited Julius's office.

"Yes..."

"And as such, shall I propose again?"

I though about it and shook my head. "No need, we're both busy preparing. Which reminds me: the chefs wanted us to try some foods out to serve at the wedding party."

"Alright." Langris glanced back at the wizard king. "Sorry for the trouble, Lord Julius."

"It's no problem."

Marx beside him coughed and I sent him an apologetic stare, knowing he was probably tried of the crap the wizard king put him through.

I opened a portal back to the Diamond kingdom, saying goodbye to Langris as he had important things to do before he offically moved to my kingdom.

When I arrived in my kingdom, my advisors all looked shocked when they saw me appear in the capitol building.

"Your Highness!" They bowed to me, telling the newer recruits to do the same.

I noticed one had his helmet lopsided so I fixed it for them, patting his shoulder. "At ease, ladies and gentlemen and the non-binary folk."

"You're back early," Winston said as he walked beside me, sending orders through hand signals to his subordinates.

"Of course," I said. "It didn't take long."

"Ah. Lord Yuno has requested your prescence."

I sighed. "Where is he?"

"He's in the drawing room of the castle. Shall I escort you there?"

I accepted his arm. "Please. Uncle, how did my mother feel in the days leading up to her marriage and coronation as Queen consort?"

"Oh?" My uncle thought about it. "Well, my younger sister was really nervous, but I could tell when she looked into your father's eyes that she was going to be okay. Anika really loved your father. I miss him, you know. Maxillion really was a fine gentlemen."

I could tell my uncle truly did. "So, what things did they do when they were younger? Before they had me?"

"Well, they would sneak out. Maxillion actually met your mother by accident. He was lost and she didn't find out he was the crown prince of the Diamond kingdom until she attended the ball as a servant. Now that was hilarious. Your mother served a noblewoman named Anastasia Song. You met her daughter Roman."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. She and your mother were quite friendly with each other to the point where Anastasia removed your mother as a servent and reinstated her as her sister in a way when the late Lady Diana Song died. In other words, you're technically cousins with Roman through law and not by blood. It's interesting, is it not?"

We arrived at the drawing room and I used magic to change into the coronation robes since I would be painted today.

My picture would join my ancestors in the Hall of Monarchs in the eastern wing of the castle.

Winston opened the door for me, waving to Yuno and leaving after powing.

"Rill!" I eyed the captain of the Aqua Deer with a smile. "I didn't know you would be coming to paint the coronation pictures!"

"Of course!! I saw the job was open so I said 'hey! Why not'. Besides, I've been eager to do some painting."

"Alright."

He pointed his paintbrush to the seat. "Sit there. And Yuno's here."

I waved to Yuno. "Hey, Yuno."

"Hey. So, you're an unmarried woman. Mind if I steal you?" He teased me.

I stuck my tongue at him. "Haha, very funny. Now, why are you here?"

"I just wanted to see if I can do anything to help with the wedding since preparations back at the Spade castle are underway."

I frowned. "Yuno as much as I appreciate the thought, you're really not needed right here."

"I know, but I thought I should help. You know, since we're close."

"Yes, but this is my kingdom. Don't you have your own kingdom to worry about?" At his silence, I sighed. "What I'm saying is that the alliance is gone. Our kingdoms will not be united anymore."

He frowned, looking somewhat offeneded. "I see. I shall see myself out."

"Alright. But just so you know, I really do appreciate the thought."

"No, you're right." He looked away. "You're right. Sorry, I was just..."

He mumbled something inaudiable, but I ignored him.

He left, leaving Rill and I alone aside from the ice fox sleeping on the couch.

Rill looked up at me. "Ne, (y/n)?"

"Hm?"

"You could've been kinder, you know."

"Yes, but I need to make it clear to him that he should stay in his own kingdom for affairs such as this. I know he really misses me, but this isn't his business; it's mine."

"I suppose."

When Rill was done, I looked at the two paintings he did with satisfaction.

It looks something like this :D

"Very splendid job," I said to him.

"Thank you! I shall take my leave now."

I opened a portal for him after sneaking a bag of coins in his bag. "Very well. See you in two days."

"Bye!"

The portal closed behind him.

I changed into a formal dress that was fitting for a queen to wear just around the palace.

"I still can't believe I'm getting married and becoming queen..." I thought to myself.

But I knew this was what I was meant to do.

Sure I had fun before and had my share of heartache, but that was just the beginning of my legacy.

I nodded to the guards who were whispering while standing at attention, smiles on their faces.

Langris arrived later in the day, looking quite tired. "I wouldn't begin to tell you the crap Father put me through. He gave me a certain talk about the wedding night."

My face went red. "Well..."

"Ha! He thinks we've never done it. But-"

"Langris, please be quiet," I said to him. "I don't need the details."

"Oh?" He smirked at me. "Are you shy~?"

"Yes!"

He laughed and slung his arm around my shoulder. "Don't be. Now, what food are we going to eat? I hear that the cake in the Diamond kingdom is known through the kingdoms to be the best. Let's see if that's true, eh?"

"Mmhm. And I can make you a cherry tart," I said.

"Nope. This is our wedding. You don't need to do anything-"

"Oh, but I've already made up my mind."

He groaned with annoyance. "But (y/n), you're already working so hard."

"I don't care, the devil works harder. Now, are we going or not?"

Langris sighed and lead me to the huge banquet hall.

"Oh, Yuno came by earlier. You know how he's supposed to be with his own kingdom?"

"Mmhm."

"I had to tell him to quit it. I might've offended him, but this really is my kingdom and not his. The alliance is over. We may be close friends, but unlike him sometimes, I put my people before myself."

"That's harsh on the poor guy," Langris said. "Did he even tell you?"

I stopped. "Tell me what?"

"(y/n), he's in love with you." Langris looked away. "And...honestly, he's a nicer guy than I will ever be. I think you should talk with him."

"I should also apologize..." I frowned.

Langris looked pained. "And just so you know, I really do love you. But I suppose it's up to you. If you should chose to be with him, I support your decision."

"Huh?!" I looked at him like the idiot he was. "What the hell are you saying? Langris Vaude, I chose you. And I intend to stick by that choice."

"But-"

"Remember that I'm yours just as much you are mine. But you're right. I should at least speak with him."

"Alright." He hugged me tightly before I left. "What about the food?"

"You can chose what you want, I already know the common dishes they will serve and I like them all."

"Okay."

I opened a portal, looking at my lover one last time before stepping to the Spade kingdom.

I was guided to the throne room where Yuno was speaking to one of his advisors.

"Lord Yuno, Princess (y/n) is here," the guard who escorted me said.

Yuno nodded and the rest of the people left.

He didn't speak until the door was sealed. "I thought we were supposed to stay in our own kingdoms."

"Shut it, Yuno." I walked over to him and hugged him. "You idiot. I love you too."

His eyes looked so hopeful and it truly pained me to what I was to say next.

"But I love you as a close friend." I looked down and let him go. "I'm to be married in two days. In honor of our friendship...will you walk me down the aisle? Only if you're comfortable-!"

He nodded, hugging me with a smile. "Of course I will. It hurts to be rejected, but I guess it's my fault for loving you even though you belonged to someone else. Don't worry, I'll get over myself sometime."

"Don't push yourself," I said, knowing how that went last time. "Please, take as much time as you need."

He stood up straighter. "I'm a king, well going to be. A lot-a-little heartache won't kill me."

"Alright then." I leaned up and kissed his cheek. "I'll see you at the wedding. I'll send a letter for you, so don't you dare be late."

"Hmph!" His wind spirit glared at me. "See Yuno? I told you she'd reject you! Now let's go on a date."

"Urasai, Bell."

"Gomen, Yuno."

____________________________

It was a cold October morning when I was woken up by the staff.

"Your Highness," my lady in waiting said. "Wake up."

I did so, my eyes already open as I couldn't hold the nervous jitters and exitement.

Today was the day I was to be crowned the queen and married to my dear Langris.

The royal palace was abuzz with the staff moving about, whispers in the air.

I was clothed in a beautiful white wedding gown, someone applying a bit of makeup to my face.

"You really don't need it," the makeup artist said.

"Then why are you putting it on?" I asked her.

"I actually don't know. Guess it will just highlight your best features."

"Fair point."

The entire palace was decorated in white, silver, navy blue, and gold.

Flags of our country were draped from the ceilings as gifts arrived from many noble houses across the countries.

Especially House Vaude.

But their gifts were mostly baby clothes which made me blush.

Yuno was dressed in his finest as was my uncle.

"You're so beautiful," he was sobbing. "You're the spitting image of your mother."

We arrived at the Hall of Kings in the first district called Reina.

The Hall of Kings had many people surrounding the place, eager to catch a glimpse at all the beautiful and handsome people who were attending as well as myself.

People shouted cheers of joy as I waved to them, hiding my face behind the veil as the guards went to their posts in case something bad would happen.

The wedding itself was a blur, sealed by a kiss and the wedding vows recited.

"Is your Majesty willing to take the Oath?" The arch bishop had the bible at the ready once we were finished with the vows.

"I am willing," I said.

"Will you solemnly promise and swear to govern the Peoples of the Diamond Kingdom, the Witches' Forest and of your Possessions and the other Territories to any of them belonging or pertaining, according to their respective laws and customs?" (This was said at Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953, so please go with it. I know very well that not all these places were under rule of the British Crown in the 19th century, just go with it)

"I solemnly promise to do so."

"Will you to your power cause Law and Justice, in Mercy, to be executed in all your judgements?"

"I will."

"Will you to the utmost of your power maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel? Will you to the utmost of your power maintain in the Diamond Kingdom the  Reformed Religion established by law? Will you maintain and preserve inviolably the settlement of the Church of Diamond, and the doctrine, worship, discipline, and government thereof, as by law established in Diamond? And will you preserve unto the Bishops and Clergy of Diamond, and to the Churches there committed to their charge, all such rights and privileges, as by law do or shall appertain to them or any of them?"

"All of these I promise."

I stood and with the Sword of the State being carried before me, I knelt down and laid my right hand on the book of rulers, the scepter and globe placed back on the cushion.

"The things which I have here before promised, I will perform and keep. So help me God."

The arch bishop placed the coronation crown of the Diamond Kingdom on my head, all five points representing the five districts, saying something in the ancient ruinic language spoken by the first Diamond king.

I kissed and signed the book, my name joining many others who ruled before me.

A page took the book to give to the Dean of Hall of Kings, the place where all coronations took place under the eyes of God and the people.

""By birthright, I hereby pronounce Princess (y/n) Augustine Seline Korenthan Vaude the Queen of Diamond and all her territories. Arise, Queen (y/n) Augustine Seline Korenthan Vaude. The Diamond Queen. " He turned to Langris and placed the crown on his head as he bowed.

"By marriage, I pronounce Lord Langris Vaude Prince Consort of Diamond and all her territories. Arise, Prince Langris, the Prince Consort."

We did and people began to clap, his parents in tears.

Finral himself was holding a hanky close, crying loudly.

I couldn't help but smile as I took Langris's gloved hand and we walked down the steps, the statues in the Hall of Kings staring at me.

Yuno was cheering loudly next to Finral, Klaus, and the other groomsmen Langris chose.

My bridesmaids were also cheering.

"We did it," Langris smiled at me as he picked me up, walking to the doors that lead to the foyer where more people were waiting to see us.

I saw someone had replaced the pillar holding the chapel up with a statue of myself, holding a sword face-down with a stoic expression and the Lemiel Cross on my sash as well as the First Order medal of Freedom.

"We did."

Our wedding rings shone in the beautiful sunlight.

Later that night, I changed into an outfit more suitible for dancing.

It was the gown I wore at the Diamond ball during the war.

I heard a gentle sound of music playing the background.

"Presenting Her Royal Highness Queen (y/n) Augustine Seline Korenthan Vaude of the Diamond Kingdom, escorted by His Royal Highness Prince Consort Langris Vaude of the Clover Kingdom!"

I felt all eyes on me the entire time as we walked down the arched stairway.

"Isn't that the dress her mother wore to her first ball as queen?" I heard someone ask.

We walked down to the floor, smiling as the guests there were whispering and cheering.

I took Langris's hand, ready to begin the festivites.

"May I have this dance?" He said to me, bowing a bit.

"You may."

I stared into his eyes, happiness in the air.

Once the dance was over, people clapped and I allowed Langris to escort me to my throne as he was only the prince consort and didn't need a throne.

I spoke with the lords and ladies of the Diamond kingdom and other kingdoms who wished us a long and happy marriage.

Kirsch looked upset, but he got over it as happiness was contagious.

Yuno teased Langris and I, saying to get to work. "I expect to hear good news that I'll be an uncle soon enough,"

"It all depends on him," I pointed to Langris who was scoffing and looking away. "But whatever, Yuno."

"Mmhm."

Once everyone had retired to their quaters in the palace if they were spending the night or heading home, Langris escorted me to our bedroom, smirking as he gripped my hand.

"Are you ready, love?"

He closed the door behind him, pushing me down on the bed.

"Don't be so hasty bro,"

"Bro?"

"Yeah..."

He shook his head and kissed my neck. "Just so you know, you're not getting away from me tonight. I'll call for a wheelchair tomorrow."

My face went shades darker as he stripped our clothes.

Truly, this would be a night and day I wouldn't ever forget.
