[27] The Final Days

Double Update!

Reader POV

I didn't know what Langris or Yuno did right after, but things began to turn in our favor.

I lead another fleet over to drop supplies.

"This is DFX1 to Command! Do you come in, command!" Roman said over the intercom.

"This is Command to DFX1. What is your status?"

Roman adjusted some gears and opened the hatches. "We're ten seconds from dropping the packages. Do I have confirmation that Base 092 is ready?"

"Confirmed. Go, DFX1."

"Alright, bet. Dropping the Queen with them."

I gave Roman a thumbs-up, using my magic to make a space to breathe, checking the packages.

"Go, Your Highness!"

"Cya later, Ro." I jumped, a vortex of energy created behind me as I flew down, tucking in my ice wings as a trail of navy blue and silver streaking across the sky in my wake.

It was called a sonic boom of sorts and it was the symbol of hope.

I dropped the packages and flew safely down to the base, people cheering.

"Oi!"

I looked up and saw Solid Silva smiling.

"You think you can do that again?" He asked me, pointing to some children who were staring at me with amazement. "They really were impressed."

I placed my hand on his shoulder, handing him a direct order from the Diamond Capital to give to the genral of this base. "Maybe later. I see you're starting to become more friendly. Good for you, Solid."

"Whatever. Kirsch wants to speak to you."

"Of course." I nodded and took my helmet off, holding it in my hands. "Oh, and Solid?"

"Hm?"

"Keep this up," I said. "You're doing splendid work."

He blushed a bit. "W-whatever!"

I chuckled and watch him walk away, children following him like a duckling.

"Your Highness!" People bowed and I held my hand up.

"At ease, everyone. Right now we're focused on a war and not formal titles. You will address me as (y/n). Please."

People looked at me and nodded.

"(y/n)!!!" Kirsch Vermillion jumped out of the crowds, hugging me. "See?! I knew you'd be fine when you entered the castle to kick Zenon's ass. Where is he anyway?"

"He's a dead bitch," I said with a smirk. "And hopefully for his sake, he'll find happiness one day."

"Ah, kind as ever. How beautiful." He leaned down and kissed my hand.

"Kirsch," I said. "Remember I'm not yours."

"But you could be-"

"I'll pass. Where's Mimosa?"

He frowned. "How rude! Not even going to acknowledge my feelings?"

"Kirsch, I already rejected you fourteen times."

"I know, it's a joke. My sister's with the head doctor Sparrow. They should be in the medical tent."

"Thank you." I buttoned up the jacket I wore as it was cold, but it felt nice.

Sure enough, Mimosa and Sparrow were together.

The ravenette looked up. "Hello, (y/n)."

I nodded to the doctor. "Hello. What's the status?"

"Half are on the brink of death, but Mimosa here and the rest of the recovery mages are working hard."

I evaluated the people who were still working and those who were hurting. "Then allow me to assist. I know I gave you one of my amulets, but I can lend a helping hand."

"Oh, but you just used so much mana-"

"I don't care." I stood in the center, holding the hand of a small child who was unfortunately blinded by magic as their eyes were bloody. "Don't worry, little one. I'll fix you up."

I picked up the boy and extended my mana out to the entire campsite.

"Winter God Union Magic: Healing Frost of Cronus."

As Cronus was the god of time and healing frost healed anyone who I wished, a combination of the spells would reverse the damage while healing frost would heal any wounds that were otherwise irreversible.

"Wow...your magic is so beautiful," a man said. "You truly are blessed by the gods."

"And not to mention you're great with kids," a nurse said. "That should come in handy one day."

I sighed and placed the boy down, him hugging me and his green eyes all fixed up.

"Thank you, Your Highness!"

"No problem, child."

He ran off to his worried mother who gave me a look of gratitude.

"You really would be a good mother," Sparrow said to me, wiping his sweaty forehead with affection in his amber eyes.

"Yep. And Mimosa? For the record, I ship you and Sparrow."

The duo blushed heavily and I snickered, leaving them to their own.

I saw some people preparing another round of food near the kitchen area.

"Here, let me help you with that," I said to an older woman, taking the pot of soup from her hand.

"Bless you," she said. "I never pictured the day where I would meet the Crown Princess (y/n) Korenthan. I heard you were leading the fronts and doing good things for the world. You truly are going to be a fine ruler."

I smiled at her, closing my eyes. "I'm just doing what's best. But thank you."

She nodded and went back to the kitchens.

I brought the pot of soup to the injured soldiers, healing their injuries and ladling soup into their bowls.

"Eat up, everyone! Miz Charmy enhanced this food to strengthen your mana!"

"Your Highness!"

I turned my head and saw Letoile. "Hey! What's up?"

"I was wondering where the medical supplies went-"

"Third crate marked with a red slash," I said. "I believe Solid took them to the medical tent."

"Thanks, (y/n)!"

I finished ladling soup and brought it back to the kitchens, eager to help more before I had to make another delivery at a base where we captured prisoners on the other side.

"Princess!"

A bunch of little kids beckoned me over.

"Yes?" I leaned down to their height.

"Why are you helping us?" One asked. "Don't princesses in books stay in their castle and let the men do the fighting and are kind and gentle? Don't you have a gleaming crown?"

"Well young one," I said. "I'm not your average princess. Wanna know why?"

"Yes!" They all looked eager.

"Because anything a guy can do, a girl can do. Besides, I'm protecting my kingdom from the bad guys. Don't good rules do that?"

"I suppose..."

"And as for crowns..." I smiled at them. "All of you come closer."

They did.

"Winter Creation Magic: Crowns of Rulers."

Ice formed on their heads that formed into beautiful crowns that would never melt but wouldn't be cold.

"Whoa!"

"Remember you can be your own ruler," I said. "A good ruler puts their people before them and protects everyone from the bad guys. Isn't that right?"

I left them to their own thought, transforming into my ice valkyrie armor, flying through the sky to the base where we kept prisoners for questioning.

I didn't know how long it was, but I was beginning to grow tired.

Around midnight, I dozed off, hearing someone enter the tent and remove their jacket.

Even in my hazy state, I knew who it was.

"You did well," I heard Langris say as he kissed my lips, wrapping his arms around me. "Just do me a favor and don't overexert yourself, alright?"

I didn't respond, too tired.

I opened my eyes and turned around as a thought hit my brain. "Ne, Langris?"

"Hm?"

I rolled over and placed my face in his chest. "I was thinking about this. So you know how we're married, right?"

"Mmhm."

"And how we're getting remarried?"

"Mmhm."

"So...I was thinking we should continue the bloodline," I said.

His face went red. "O-Oh?"

"I think you'll make a great father. We said we would start to think about possibly having kids once the war ended. I think we've got another week, if that."

He nodded. "Alright. Do you want to try for a child? Not right now since we're both tired as crap."

"I'd love that. You should've seen everyone," I closed my eyes, comforted by his scent. "Nacht himself asked me if I've got a bun in the oven or if I will."

"Pfft. We haven't had sex in a while," Langris said, causing me to blush heavily. "So I really doubt you're pregnant."

"Hmm? I dunno, maybe I did the nasty with Yuno?"

Langris frowned. "Not funny."

"Love you too." I kissed his jaw. "Don't worry, it's a joke."

"Oh, that reminds me. Why don't you just say the word? It's not like you're saying anything bad."

"Because it just seems weird?"

"What's weird about saying sex?"

"Lots of things!"

He rolled over, smirking down at me as my back was against the bed. "Like...?"

"Uh! I don't know! It just seems wrong."

"Right. Repeat after me. Sex."

"No!"

"Come on, you can say it!" He leaned down and booped my nose.

I shook my head, looking away from him with a red face. "No!"

"Sex. Just say it!"

"Ugh! Sex."

"Louder."

"No. Now get off me so I can sleep!"

He did, laughing and flicking my forehead. "It's nothing to be ashamed of, dear. That's how everyone is made. Through the sacred act of-"

"Ugh! Shut up!" I hit his chest playfully, glaring at him.

His laughter died down and he stroked my cheek, staring at me with deep affection. "You know, someone told me long ago that I would find my soulmate. I didn't believe them at first, then the day I saw you down in the arena."

I thought back to that day.

I wouldn't ever forget it.

Flashback

I fought against Shino, annoyance clear in my gaze.

The starlight mage glared at me.

I stared up at the captains who were watching me carefully.

The air became freezing cold and I heard someone scream and I looked up, my eyes widened.

I had frozen time and I looked down to see a string on my pinky.

The red string appears when you've found your soulmate.

The sun's rays captivated a figure an inch or two taller than me.

I flew up, keeping everyone trapped in time.

It was a guy with blue-green ocean eyes, strawberry blonde hair, and standing beside the captain of the nation's most elite squad.

The Golden Dawn.

"Langris Vaude..." I read the small writing on the ring he wore that was obviously a family thing as I saw Finral had a similar ring.

Langris was frowning, frozen in time.

I knew if I allowed, he would be unfrozen and share the frozen world with me.

But I couldn't show my powers just yet.

"So you are the one I'm destined to be with..." I whispered, staring into his frozen eyes with amazement. "Huh. I thought soulmates were a falsity parents told their children about to make them feel wanted."

I placed my hand on his and the strings glowed brighter, a smile forming on my face.

"Then I should get to know you, soulmate."

I unfrozen time after going back to the arena where I was previously battling Shino Adamina.

I looked up briefly at the vice captain of the Golden Dawn who was eying me up, interest in his eyes.

When I was called to the platform to select a squad, all nine captains wanted me, which was amazing.

"If you would allow me to join the Golden Dawn,"
I said.

The captain was pleased and nodded.

I was guided to the upper region and given a uniform to wear, choosing to stand beside my new vice captain.

The nobleman of the Clover kingdom glanced at me from the corner of his eyes as I twiddled my thumbs, unsure of what to do.

This is where our story starts.

End of Flashback

"Funny," I said. "I didn't believe in soulmates either. But when I went to the witches forest, the Queen there told me something. Soulmates exist for a reason. Some people are just meant to be together. She said that we were the same in our previous lives when you and I were elves."

"Sheesh, it's so weird to think that the witch queen is over 500 years old and she would know the elves."

I hit his side playfully. "Shh! She'll have your head if she hears you calling her old!"

"Well you'd never let that happen, right? Besides, I can protect myself."

"Mmhm. Sure."

"Hey!"

I turned off the light. "We should probably sleep. This war isn't over."

"Right..." he allowed me to snuggle up to me. "So, do you want a girl or boy?"

"Anything is fine, and they can chose what they want to be."

"Fair point."

Dawn came and I was up early as I had another delivery to make.

I left the tent after kissing Langris goodbye, putting on my jacket.

I opened a portal back to the Diamond base and got onto the plane with Roman once again.

"Hey, (y/n)?"

"Hm?"

"You know, I'm the last heir to House Song. I'd very much like to go take care of my people in my town after the war," she said.

"Of course. As long as you return to the capital. I believe I have a position for you as one of my head advisors waiting for you."

Her jaw dropped and she almost dropped her helmet. "What?!"

"You heard me. Your noble work won't go unrewarded, dear Roman. You're from the village of Mero in the Melody district near the Siren falls, right?"

"That's the one."

"Alright. Take as much time as you need."

"Thank you!"

"Now, let's go. This war isn't done."

True to my prediction, Yuno took hold of the capital and I was summoned to sign a victory document, ending the war.

Dressed in my finest outfit with the crown of rulers on my head and my war medals on my imperial sash, I walked into the war room in the Clover Kingdom where Queen Lolopechka, King Augustus Kira Clover, Lord Julius, Yuno, and the new head of the Dark Triad who was our double agent were waiting.

"I'm so glad this dreaded war is finally done," I said. "Splendid work, everyone."

"Truly a beautiful job that I helped the most with!" The Clover king boasted.

The rest of us didn't comment.

General Winston provided the four copies of the official end-of-war documents, one for each kingdom.

The documents stated the end of the Tri-Alliance and everyone would respectively go back to their kingdoms and trade would begin once more, trade routes mapped out as we discussed plans for rebuilding the crumbled cities and those who lacked the proper supplies.

"With this treaty signed, we officially have ended this war," Queen Lolopechka said with a smile.

"Ah, finally."

I motioned for my guards to go ahead as I wanted to speak with Yuno before heading back.

"So it's official?" I asked him. "You're going to rule the Spade kingdom?"

"Mmhm. I thought I wanted to be the Wizard King, but I can't abandon my people." He suddenly hugged me tightly. "Thank you, Princess. If it weren't for your actions with the people, I wouldn't even consider to take my rightful place as ruler. You're an inspiration to many."

I hugged him back. "So this is it, I suppose."

"Nope. We've got a surprise for you back at the Golden Dawn. Remember when we would refuse to tell you what was going on?"

"Huh?"

He grabbed my hand, running through the halls and not caring we were both wearing formal clothing.

I nearly dropped my crown, having to run with a hand on my crown so it wouldn't fall.

We arrived at the newly rebuilt base and he brought me to the courtyard where I saw a statue.

It was a statue of me holding my grimoire and touching my heart with my left hand, a look of mystery and determination on my face.

The base of the statue had something written on it.

I leaned down and looked closer, my eyes watering.

Queen (y/n) Augustine Seline Korenthan, First Class Senior Magic Knight, awarded the Lemiel Cross. May her guiding light bridge us together to a brighter future. Let the stars guide us as we progress forward. Let it be known that Her Royal Highness is someone of a guiding light.

I covered my face, tears running down my cheeks.

"You guys!" I hugged Yuno, Mimosa, Klaus, and the captain. "You didn't have to!"

"We did," the captain said. "You've truly made a brighter future for not only us, but this entire continent. I understand you will be going back to the Diamond kingdom soon and we wanted to show you this before you get busy."

I let go of the rest and hugged my captain. "We may not be related in this timeline, but you're a brother to me. Don't you dare be strangers, any of you."

"We wouldn't dream of it," Alecdora patted my back once I let go of the captain. "Oh, and there's one last surprise waiting for you in your room."

"Aw!!! You guys!!!"

I went upstairs, eager to see what it was.

And I wasn't disappointed.

Langris was standing there with a box in his hands, a sad smile on his face. "Hey, (n/n)."

"What's this?" I stared at the room, seeing stars everywhere.

"We met and fell in love because of stars. So before you go, I had this made. Everyone in the squad pitched in."

He opened the box and it was made of iridescent glass, writing on the back that had the symbol of the Golden Dawn.

There were photos underneath it, made into frames.

I stared at each, smiling gently.

I saw pictures of me sleeping on Langris's shoulders, cooking in the kitchens with Rossaeu and Alicia, teasing Yuno, doing paperwork with the captain.

There were more, but I was crying.

"Damn it! I'm going to miss everyone!"

"I know, but we aren't going anywhere. If anything, we'll be bothering you." Langris placed his hand on my head, smiling at me. "After all, once a member of the Golden Dawn, always a member of the Golden Dawn."

A couple hours later, there were fireworks lighting in the skies as everyone celebrated the end of the war.

I watched from the balcony of the Golden Dawn, my things already gone.

I faced my squad and other close friends from other squads a final time, holding hands with Langris and crying.

"Goodbye, everyone. I wish you all the best!"

"Goodbye, princess!"

"We'll see you at your coronation!"

"Good luck with your kingdom!"

"We'll miss you so much!"

Yuno even hugged me. "I'll see you at your coronation then you'll see me at my coronation."

"Mmhm!"

"Good luck, princess." He kissed my hand and I nodded, grabbing hold of Langris's hand again.

"You ready?" He asked me as he opened a portal that  lead to the castle of the Diamond kingdom.

My kingdom.

"Mmhm." I leaned into him.

"Let's go home."
