[25] Flying Machines

Beyond this point, this story will not follow the manga at all! Thank you!

Reader POV (1 month later...)

I was looking at the map of all the kingdoms, trying to see the weak points to get back.

"We'll start right here," I said to the surviving soldiers, my eyes dull with anything but determination. "I believe we can claim back our kingdom. Who's with me?"

My people in the room raised their fists reinforced with my ice magic, cheering loudly.

"For the pride of our kingdom!"

"For the honor of our ancestors!"

I stood up and Yuno followed me, eager to talk his battle strategies out.

"Ne, (y/n)? I was thinking we should locate the sovereign's beacon. I heard from legends that it's magical power is untamed. If we can get ahold of that, then we would have the upper hand."

I thought for a moment and climbed onto the airship that was specifically designed by Commander Navin's crew to be able to travel long distance in a short amount of time and use magical concentration from the pilot, unless they had anti-magic like Asta.

"That sounds fine."

Yuno nodded and rushed off to go tell the Clover Citizens.

Ever since the war started, the Diamond kingdom found certain crystals in the mines that granted the power to boost one's power and use it to control large objects like the planes.

Under Commander Navin's instruction, I made it manditory for all Diamond citizens to learn basic flight mechanisms in addition to repairs.

Truly, we were going through an industrial revolution that profited our country's treasury as the other two kingdoms in the Tri-Alliance pact all wanted a piece of the action.

"Perfect." I harnessed myself in my Diamond Falcon X1, or simplified to DFX1.

As I was the leader of the country, I made sure I was in the front lines despite Langris's insistance that I wasn't.

"Ah, shit." I quickly put on the headphones to connect myself to the flight tower as I was going off to the Clover Kingdom, eager to fly on the new DFX1s instead of using my spacial magic.

This was especially amazing as not everyone had enough magic to get the vehicles off the ground, so we used a certain crystalite called Korthenium that powered the machines if a person didn't have the mana to make it fly, much less strike down fortresses.

"Commander Navin, I'm heading out!" I said over the intercom, adjusting the flight settings and turning down the runway.

"Alright. Go, DFX1."

I pulled the gear back, moving the break up to drive and engaging the log systems to display the weather.

I flew over to the Clover Castle and landed the plane on a field outside the castle, the others already outside as soon as they heard of a silver bird in the sky with the flag of my kingdom on its back wings, painted on by myself.

"Whoa! What the hell is that?!" Solid Silva said, his jaw dropping. "More importantly, who is that?"

People had their grimoires out, but I removed my helmet, a smile on my face. "Hi! It's me! I'd prefer it if you don't kill me."

"OI!"

I looked up in the sky and saw Nozel landing his silver eagle.

"What the hell is that, Korenthan?"

I smiled at him and patted the engine. "This, Nozel, is a DFX1! Anyone can use it, if they have magic or not."

"Wow...!" Asta's jaw dropped. "So does that mean I can use it?"

"Of course! I won't tell you how they're crafted, but the controls are amazing. Not to mention they have mana detectors and defense shields when we cross the Grand Mana Zone."

I took off my scarf and threw it into the compartment, closing it and clicking a button, the vehicle vanishing.

"Where did it go?!"

"That's the magic of my friend Dominate," I said. "She can make things invisible. Now, where's your king? I have to talk to him."

"The actual king or Lord Julius?" Solid asked me as I started walking towards the castle, using magic to change my outfit into something appropiate to be seen in while in front of the ruler of another country.

I looked at the younger Silva brother. "Who do you think, dear Solid?"

"Hey! I'm still older than you!"

"And I'm a ruler. Calm your braids."

Noelle snickered a bit and quieted down when Solid glared at her.

I saw the Clover king staring at me with a frown.

"Your Highness," I said.

"Bow lower, woman," he spat. "A lowly commoner like you should know your place!"

The people in the room all stared at their ruler like he was an idiot-which he is.

"Ano, Your Highness?" Baw-Ha said. "That's the current ruler of the Diamond Kingdom."

"HUH?!" He stood up and walked down towards me, reaching his grubby fingers out, but I backed away.

"Your Highness, I'd prefer not to be touched."

I saw Langris and his family in the corner of my eye and waved to him with a smile.

He still had an "o-o" expression on his face and he waved back.

As per both agreements, we decided not to tell the others that we were married.

We could save that announcement for another day.

In fact, only us and Julius knew.

"What are you doing here?! And what the hell is was thing on my lawn!?"

I smiled at him. "That, King Clover, is a DFX1. As per the Tri-Alliance, I would  like you to recruit as many people as you'd see fit to be trained to pilot them."

"Why should I?! You're the ruler of the Diamond kingdom! Surely you can-"

"I don't think you understand, Your Highness. Without your righteous hand of justice, I can't do anything to command your people despite being the only one being honored with the Lemiel Cross."

He glared at me. "Why should I!"

"Don't do it for your own selfish needs," I said. "But do it for your people. I find that when you give the people what they want, you can gain their support."

The king looked deep in thought. "I suppose-"

"Great! I need 24 pilots."

"I want to do it!" Klaus said.

I eyed him up and nodded. "Klaus! Nice to see you're recovering well!"

"And you as well."

Langris was about to volunteer when his voice was drowned out by others.

"Pick me, Your Highness!"

"I would love to help with the war efforts!"

Even Nozel looked somewhat interested!

"I will be accepting applications tomorrow," Commander Navin said over the intercom which I displayed for everyone to see. "See to it that you drop it off at the Wizard King's office."

We had already planned this with Julius and Julius himself was really interested.

I ended the connection, putting the device back on my belt where I also kept a keychain with miniature weapons that would grow to their proper size by two taps.

"Thank you, King Clover," I said to him formally.

He scoffed but wanted to make himself look good in front of the nobles and royals in his throne room.

I walked past my new relatives through marriage that they didn't even know I was now their daughter-in-law. "Hello, Langris."

He got down on one knee, kissing my gloved hand and staring up at me. "Hello, Princess."

I looked away from him, retracting my hand as he stood up, linking his arm with mine.

"So, how's the war going on the eastern front?" He asked me as we walked out of the throne room, him sending a look to the guards who prevented people from following us.

I walked with him out to the courtyard, sitting by the fountain.

"It's fine. We managed to get back our territories on the Northeastern front. Now we just have to get one more district and we're in the clear. I believe with the technology created, we can gain the upper hand at last."

"How wonderful. How's Yuno? I hear he went over to your kingdom for a while."

"Yes, he is still there."

Langris nodded. "And when do you think I can come over?" His hands squeezed my thigh, a smirk on his face. "Last time I checked, we never did get to fully appreciate that moment that night."

My face turned various shades of red as I remember what happened and what we did.

"Shut up!"

"Aw, is my wife so flustered?" He hugged me tightly, his breath touching my neck. "Don't be. We're married."

I pushed him off me, frowning. "Keep the whore knee down, Langris. I actually came to talk to you about something."

"Okay." He sat normally, thinking for a bit and anxiousness on his face. "Please don't tell me you're divorcing me for that Yuno."

"What?! No!" I glared at him. "No. It's actually about us. And our future."

"Oh?" He blinked. "Go on."

"So I was thinking after the war, we could get married. Officially. General Winston already informed me that you could become the king-but only if you show your bravery in the war. I have no doubt you can, and-"

He held his hand up, a gentle smile on his face. "(y/n) my love, I'm fine with just being your husband. I don't care what my title, it won't change that you're mine."

"Aww! You really do have a heart!" I hugged him tightly.

He was looking around with a pout on his face along with a blush. "Shut it!"

"I love you!" I smiled up at him, pecking his cheek. "Now! Tell me all about the reparations of this kingdom since Yuno refuses to."

Langris shook his head. "Sorry, but I can't tell you."

"Ugh! So irritating! But fine, I'll respect whatever it is. Yuno and Mimosa tell me that there's a surprise."

"Yep! But you'll find out someday."

I shrugged. "Alright. Well, I came here to personally invite you to the Diamond Ball."

He nodded. "Very well. Shall I wear my uniform?"

"No. Please wear something that reflects your personality or whatever feels right to wear to a royal ball."

"Sure. What time shall I be there?"

"Let's go now," I said, using my magic to get back into my normalfor flight. "You're coming with me on the flight. I think you'll love it."

I ran towards the DFX1 with our hands interlocked, giggling like idiots.

A gentle snow was falling when I lifted the aircraft off the ground, using the magic to move quicker through the air, moving around in loops.

I tilted the plan to make the left wing graze the water, Langris staring with shock.

"How's the ride, Langris?" I asked him over the intercom as I brought the plane high in the clouds.

"What the hell did you do, (y/n)!? This is amazing! I want to do this all day! It's even better than flying!"

I open the overhead shields, sunlight reflecting in as the sun set in the horizon, making a beautiful sunset in the clouds.

I could see the tip of the Diamond castle peaking out, a smile on my face.

"Are you ready for the grand finale?" I asked him, boosting the engine.

"There's more?!"

I could see through the rearview mirrors how he was smiling like an excited child at the prosepct of candy.

I nodded even though he couldn't see me as the aircraft had two cabins. "Yep! Make sure you're buckled, Langris!"

"This is absolutely amazing! I never imagined we'd be doing this!"

I spun the aircraft quickly, then pulled down the controller, flying right against the castle with a good distance, him staring right into the castle and the people who were on the many balconies, pointing at us.

Pretend there's water surrounding the palace with a single path for carriages in the front to allow people to the gates.

I brought the controller up, gliding right against the water before sending a message to the air tower to tell the commander that we were here.

I landed us and hit the breaks slowly, making sure that I had an area that was perfect.

"Wow!" Langris couldn't stop smiling as he exited the steps, feeling a bit dizy as he took off his helmet. "That was beautiful! But not nearly as beautiful as you."

I allowed him to cling onto me, smiles on our faces. "So, you want to learn to do that?"

"Hell yeah, (y/n)!"

"Then you'll have to wait," I said.

"I-" He frowned. "How rude to lead me on!"

We entered the gate, going through the security systems as people rushed to go check on the engines and the other typical maintenance things.

I ruffled his hair as he stood up to his full height, doing the same to me.

"You're so rude!" He pouted. "You should reward me with a kiss-or something else."

I pushed him off me. "Enough, lover-boy. Now go get ready for the ball tonight."

"Huh?! But I don't even have an outfit-"

"You'll be fine." I waved to him as the royal seamstress started bombarding him with questions, snickering and leaving him to that.

Yuno was still in the air tower, studying the wind logistics of the crafts. "I see you showed him a bit of fun with the crafts,"

"Of course. Say Yuno, want to go for a ride later?" I offered.

He shook his head. "No thank you. I'd prefer to get to the Spade kingdom without the use of metal. My wind magic is perfectly fine."

"Suit yourself." I patted his shoulder. "And don't forget you're invited to the ball tonight. You'd better find yourself a plus-one."

"Can it be Asta? He's been bothering me all week to see this kingdom."

"Sure, but make it quick."

Yuno left after looking at me one last time, a sigh leaving him.

Mars took his place beside me and looked at my grimoire. "Say, do you think Yuno likes you?"

"I don't know. I think he's just happy to-"

"Oh gods, you really are dense." Mars karate chopped my head, rolling his eyes with frustration. "You have to tell him, (y/n). Don't give him false hope."

"Pfft. Yuno knows I'm not his and that I love someone else."

"But still, you should tell him directly otherwise you'll be guilty of leading him on." Mars waved his hand and left the room. "Don't do that."

I went to my room in the castle, staring up at the ceiling that was high and arched.

Does Yuno actually like me?

I had suspicions, but didn't confront the situation since I thought it was just myself being too egotistical to think I had not one but two mages that fancied me.

Technically three if I counted that asshole Zenon.

"Well, now I'm in a pickle," I sighed as I looked at the gown my mother wore to her first Diamond ball that celebrated the founding of the country as the queen.

If you don't like it, I don't care. Keep it for story purposes.

As per the advice of Langris and Yuno, I placed the Lemiel Cross on the sash right above the pin of the first Queen of the Diamond kingdom, my ancestor Queen Victoria Silverstone Korenthan.

Around my neck was the necklace of all my descendants who ruled before me.

The doors opened and in came Langris escorted by my two personal guards.

"Wow..." he closed the door behind him, a blush on his face. "You look absolutely beautiful."

"Thank you! You don't look so bad yourself!"

He sighed. "I never figured that dark blue would be my color with silver, but I guess I don't look so bad."

"Good for you! Now, remember not to tell anyone about that," I said, reminding him that no one knew that we were already married.

"Fine, but I will if someone is sticking to you more than they should."

I linked arms with him, rolling up my long white satin gloves.

"Now, shall we go have a ball?"
