[24] His Confession
Double update + implied NSFW
Reader POV
I opened my eyes and saw the familiar ceiling of the hospital wing, seeing Langris sitting on the floor and leaning against the wall, silently crying.
I sat up and fell to the floor, groaning in pain but determined to see what was wrong with him.
"Langris?"
He looked up, startled. "O-Oi! You should be resting in bed!"
He gently picked me up and brought a chair over, wiping his tears.
"Why are you crying?" I asked him softly, knowing he must've been ashamed to know I saw him crying.
"(y/n), you literally died in my arms," he said to me, gently stroking my cheek. "If it hadn't been for our unbreakable vow, you would still be dead."
I looked down and saw the string had faded once more but was still there. "Yeah..."
"Yeah? That's all you can say?" He looked pissed, but calmed himself down. "(y/n), because I love you, I'm no longer allowing you to fight at the fronts."
"WHAT?"
He rang a bell and officers came in with anti-magic cuss. "I'm sorry, but this is the only way to save you. I refuse to let you be hurt again!"
"Are you sure about this, Vaude?" An officer asked, knowing who I was and the strength I brought to our war efforts.
"No! Piss off!" I glared at them. "Langris, I refuse. If anything, I'm more fired up to fight! And to take down the Dark Triad!"
Langris looked pained, but nodded to the soldiers.
"Langris! If you do this, I'll never forgive you!" I said sternly, tears clouding my vision. "If you do this..." I was hesitant to say the next part. "If you do this, I'm no longer yours."
His eyes widened and the officers paused, indeed knowing how much we loved each other. "I..."
"Don't make this mistake," I said to him in a softer tone and cupped his face. "Don't do this. I understand you're scared, but I must do this for myself and for my people."
He took a deep breath and nodded to the guards who left the room. "Not a word about this out of any of you."
They nodded and bowed to me, closing the door behind them.
"I'm going to pretend that didn't happen," I said with a frown.
He suddenly pushed me down onto the bed, hugging me tightly.
"Fine. If you must fight, then fight. But I swear to gods, (y/n). If I get a single word that you were injured..."
"The same goes for you."
He nodded and his tears dripped down his face, plopping onto mine. "Very well. But (y/n), I meant what I said last night. I want to make you my bride and have children with you someday. I want us to be a family."
I reached up and stroked his cheek gently. "Me too. I want that more than anything."
He was about to speak again when the door was knocked on.
"Come in," I said, Langris moving off me and muttering his annoyances. "Oh, Yuno."
The flowers in his hand dropped and he ran up and hugged me tightly.
"I really thought you died!"
"We made an unbreakable vow. To save each other and our future," Langris snapped. "And the last thing she needs is your shit. Get lost!"
Yuno stood up taller, glaring at Langris. "I'd watch your mouth, Langris. I may have just found out my true heritage, but it doesn't dismiss the fact you've always treated me like crap."
I looked over and Langris. "Langris, I think you should leave."
"What?! I was here first!"
"Please. I really need to talk to Yuno."
Langris glared at Yuno before leaving the room, bumping his shoulder. "Remember she's mine, Yuno."
The door closed behind him.
"I'm sorry about him," I said.
Yuno shrugged and sat down. "It's fine. I'd act the same way if you were mine."
I could tell he really wished I was his, but he knew I wasn't.
I could see in his eyes the longing shielded by his normal emotionless stature.
The pain of knowing that the one he loves is already with someone who isn't himself.
"Believe me, I really wish he wouldn't do so. I'm not some porcelain doll."
Yuno leaned forward in his chair, a frown on his face. "You know, Langris said something to me that day you were talking to parliament."
"He did?"
"Mmhm. He really loves you. He doesn't want to see anyone he loves get hurt, you know. And who would? He truly wants the best for you. Though I might disagree on some of his actions, he wouldn't ever imagine putting you in danger. He said to me that if anything happened to you, he would turn into a monster."
"A monster?"
"Yeah. Kinda like how Patri activated that forbidden magic to reincarnated the elves. Langris made me swear to kill him if that day should ever come." Yuno patted my head. "So do me a favor and don't get yourself killed, eh?"
I leaned my body forward and wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly. "I won't. Thank you, Yuno. You're the world's finest wind mage."
"Eh? I thought I was the world's best tato maker. Or was it the master of telling corny jokes?"
"Yuno!" I whined. "Not now."
He only chuckled slightly and leaned back, lifting my chin. "You really have a heart of gold, (y/n). So don't you dare die on me. I want to torment Langris when you two have children. They'll call me Uncle Yuno as they should and we'll prank their father and drive him crazy."
"Aw!" My hands flew to my heart. "So the stoic Yuno does have a heart!"
"Shut it, Korenthan."
"Make me, Grinberryal." My smile then turned serious. "How did you even find out?"
"A man named Ralph. He showed me everything. Including the time before the Dark Triad even posed as a threat."
"I see."
"Mmhm. And I suppose you knew?"
I nodded. "I knew since the day I met you. You look just like your mother. Books about the royal families show each child when they are born if the scribe writes it. But if they don't, then people have to take a guess on what the new child looks like."
"So that explains lots of things. I must say, you were an adorable baby."
"Hush!"
Yuno let go of my chin, smirking at me. "So, when do you think you'll start to prepare to have kids? We're not getting any younger and I'd love to be an uncle to them, as you know."
"As soon as the war is over. I really can't afford to be pregnant on the battlefield. And if Langris should die, I don't want my children to grow up without a father."
"I see. But say you do get pregnant during the war. If he does die, will you allow me to help you raise your children? That's only hypothetically."
I nodded. "Of course. But don't tell me you're thinking-"
"No, it was just a question. I'd rather spend my time making him pissed off and having you calm him down so I can do it again. And not spending time in prison for killing him without him turning into a monster."
"Fair point." I thought for a moment. "Yuno, after the war is over, are you going to take your rightful place as the king of the Spade kingdom?"
He sighed. "I don't know. I want to become the wizard king so badly; it's been my dream since I was a child."
"Oh? Tell me about your childhood."
He nodded and made me scoot over on the bed, bringing my head to rest on his chest as per normal since we were close.
"Well, I grew up in Hage village in the Boonies. That's one of the poorest regions in this kingdom. I was left outside a church with Asta. The father and sister there raised us as their own."
As Yuno spoke of his childhood, I caught him smiling fondly as he told me the antics he and Asta would get into and the father would give them an earful.
He especially talked how the other children would be so impressed when he showed them his magic.
From his account, he already had so much potential even before getting his grimoire.
"You must really admire Asta," I said, my eyes getting droopy.
"I do. He's my rival."
I felt Yuno's gentle hands running through my hair as I drifted off to sleep, knowing I could trust him fully.
"Sleep good, (y/n). We've got a long war ahead of us and I especially need you alive and healthy."
Hours later, I woke up and it was night time.
Moonlight seeped through the room and I saw Yuno had left, Langris taking his place.
Langris was staring down at me, a soft smile on his face. "Good evening."
"To you as well," I slowly sat up. "Where's Yuno? He was just here."
"Dear, it's 7:45 PM. He went back to help the others repair our base."
"Shame. I had a question for him."
"Ah, I see. Shall I bring you to him?"
I noticed the change in his attitude when it came to me speaking about Yuno.
Before he would act suspicious and would demand to come with me if I wanted to talk to Yuno.
"Huh? Who are you and where is my Langris?"
Langris scoffed. "Shush! I trust you. And...I apologized to him for my mistreatment. But I swear to gods, (y/n). Do not follow up on his request to name one of our kids after him!"
"Huh?! He asked you that?"
"Yeah!" Langris looked pissed off. "I refuse to name our son or daughter after him."
I sighed. "I think he was joking, love."
"Humph!"
I heard my stomach growl. "You think we can get a bite to eat?"
"Sure. I actually made food. I just have to reheat it."
"Oh, lovely."
We dined on (favorite food) and for dessert, he made us his favorite cherry pie that he almost never shared- even with me.
"So...our wedding got interrupted..." Langris said. "When do you think we can-"
"Right now. Let's do it right now. No ceremony, no nothing. Just an officiator."
And we got married in the garden outside the wizard king's castle, Lord Julius sealing the pact.
Langris and I held hands when he brought us to the unoccupied House Vaude as his parents fled Tota and Finral was doing his own thing.
He brought me to his bedroom, kissing me gently.
"I'm so glad you're my wife now-" he kissed me again but on my neck. "Mrs. (y/n) Korenthan Vaude."
We stripped ourselves of our clothes and got onto his bed, doing otherwise sinful activities.
The air was hot as he held me close, moving his body and our moans filling the air.
Truly, it was a beautiful night.

Istfg I'm just gonna write Yuno's path for this book as a bonus chapter when I'm done. I honestly have no idea how long this book will be, but I managed to write 24 long chapters in a period of 6 days. Yay me!
