[22] She Grew Up

As of this chapter, the rewrite is longer than the original copy.

Reader POV

I looked up and saw Yuno flying around the simulation room.

It's been a solid five  months since he's been declared the vice captain.

"Come on, Yuno!" A holographic blue crown appeared near my head like his green spirit dive crown. "Attack me with your strongest spell."

Yuno nodded and was about to do so when Langris appeared.

"Sorry to interrupt, but the Diamond council requests-"

I glared at Langris and warped him out of the testing room, not wanting to deal with him as I was training with Yuno.

"He's gonna get pissed," Yuno snickered. "And you know that you'll pay for it later."

"Shut it, Yuno. Don't forget I'm the one in charge here."

He was gone in a flash and appeared right in front of me, the blade of his spirit dive the only thing between our faces.

"Yet I'm the one focusing."

"Piss off." I moved away from him. "Oi! Don't you dare laugh at me, Yuno!"

"Can't help it. Need I tell the whole squad I caught you and the former vice captain making out in the swimming pools?"

"No! Shut up!"

Fanzell on the control system snickered. "Oh? Do tell me the details~"

"Die!" I kicked Yuno away and he dodged, laughing like an idiot.

"Yuno, need I remind you that I am still technically your senpai?" Langris sounded pissed off, but neither Yuno or I cared right now.

I pointed my index finger at Yuno, a smirk on my face. "Are you ready to be pushed to your limit again, Yuno?"

He nodded. "Yep!"

"Good." My grimoire flipped multiple pages and I knew the spell I was about to cast was especially going to help him. "Winter God Magic: Wind of Boreas!"

Yuno smirked at me. "It seems you really are blessed by the gods. Very well. I was hoping to save this spell to surprise you on the battlefield, but I suppose now will do." He moved towards me quickly. "Wind Magic: Spirit of Boreas!"

"Ah, shit." I opened a huge portal. "Winter Creation Magic: Ice Depths of the Abyss!"

His magic slammed into the portal, but some cut right through the spell and ripped tears in my training uniform.

I raised my hand to call a draw.

"Good work!" I high-fived Yuno who was clearly looking into the window of the control room, smirking at Langris.

"Wipe that smirk off your face, Yuno." Langris said as we crossed into the control room where Fanzell was reviewing the data.

I stood in between them, not wanting to deal with their drama. "Both of you knock it off. We're here to train and not to deal with you two."

The two males glared at each other over my head but I ignored them, more interested to see the fight.

"Now, who's next?" I asked. "I'd like to spar at least three more times before the day ends, but I'm fine with where I'm at currently."

"Let's settle this bout once and for all," Langris spat at Yuno, heading into the simulation room.

"I couldn't agree more, Vaude."

Fanzell snickered and I sat down next to him as he adjusted the settings to display the cold climate of the Spade kingdom. "This is your fault, (y/n). You know what's going to happen."

"Well they better not kill each other or I'll kill Langris," I said.

"Hm...I'm still shocked he didn't go to train with the spirit guardian of wind in Princess Lolopechka's kingdom," Fanzell thought. "But I suppose he wants to be near you. For some reason."

"Pfft. How weird."

"I'm gonna say it now kid," Fanzell sent in the beeper system for them to begin their spar. "I'd be careful. You've got not one but three powerful mages after your hand. One of which is our enemy and the other the last heir."

"Please, all of them know who I want."

But still, I heeded his warning.

"Hey, I also had a question. From what Rosseau tells me, Zenon Zogratis asked for your hand in marriage to save your people. Why didn't you accept it?"

"Because for starters, my heart belongs to one person. Second, I don't trust a thing Zenon says. Something is possessing him, and I don't like it." I looked down at my left hand where the mark of the gods was fading as it usually does after I don't use their spells.

"Fair enough."

I watched Yuno and Langris fight it out, knowing that Yuno had to train against someone who uses soley spacial magic since Zenon had spacial magic.

"Well, I'd better go see what the Diamond council wants me to do. If you will excuse me," I said to Fanzell, nodding to him.

He nodded back. "I'll make sure these two don't kill each other."

"See that you do."

I left, the ice armor fading from my body to reveal my training uniform which was all black with a dark blue cape since I thought it looked cool.

I arrived at the parliment building and the officers there bowed in respect to me.

"At ease," I said. "I'm not the queen yet."

"Yet," General Winston said. "Come, we're ready to discuss the plans to push the Spades back to the miserable hole they came from."

I followed him into the room and took my seat where my advisors all nodded to me with the deepest respect.

"Your Highness," the head of the state treasury said. "How shall we begin?"

I pulled up a hologram that displayed all off the areas and territories of my kingdom. "First, we should send all necessary medical supplies and food to these areas in the north. I want you to bring the white flags with you while you do so," I said. "So that why the enemies know that you are coming in peace. The most important thing is to see what they're doing to these towns and if the people are being treated fine."

"Yes, Your Highness!"

"Now with the moving fortresses. Take down the leaders and save those people. Then when you're done with that, I want reports on what exactly was going on, don't leave a single detail out."

"Yes, Your Highness!"

I turned to the general. "And you, General Winston, I want you to use the remaining mages and troops to prepare for invasions. We'll be leaving soon, say a month and a half. Anyone above stage one will do."

"That's perfect. What should we do about the arcane mages?"

I smirked and displayed a huge ball of magic in my other hand, ice forming into gloves with sharp points. "They're going with me to the volcanoes. We'll be doing one final mission with Lady Mereleona Vermillion of the Clover Kingdom."

"Oh crap..."

"Now, I want eveyone to spend the next week sending in preparations and using these magic stones to protect your assigned districts." I made diamond amulets out of the ball of energy. "And don't worry about theft, they only work for each assigned person."

"Your Magesty! That is part of your magic! Surely-"

"With all due respect, General Winston, I've grown in the last few months. Because I trust everyone here, I am giving you this gift. However, once the war is over, I will be back to collect the magic stones. Think of it as a benefit that should be returned at a later time."

The people bowed, satisfied with the war stragety once the meeting was called to a draw half an hour later.

General Winston and Commander Navin Hayes were walking with me, discussing the use of Navin's technology.

"I believe my great-grandfather Silas Charon's technology will be able to assist us in this war," Navin was saying to me. "And I believe if we infuse it with some magic on the mechanism gears and use titanium-"

"Aluminium would be better," I said to him. "Use that since it's lighter and more resourceful than titanium."

Navin nodded and saluted. "Yes, Your Highness!" He left the general with me, calling his people to the front to speak to them.

"I must say, you're handling this far better than I could've in my youth," the general said. "You've really grown, Your Highness."

"Thank you, Winston," I said. "But I can't take all the credit. After the war, I would like to present you an award-"

"It is not necessary," he stopped me. "I am happy to serve my kingdom. Your mother and I are siblings, you know."

"Wait, what?!"

"Yep. You, my dear, are my niece." He patted my shoulder. "And I wish for you to rule just as your ancestors have. I believe that you truly will bring a world of peace."

He left me to my own thoughts, directing his own people to go get ready to deliver supplies to the occuplied zones.

I warped myself to the royal castle, staring at the painting of my parents on my father's coronation day.

He was wearing the silver and navy blue, the colors of our kingdom, a silver crown with five diamonds on the center piece to represent the five districts.

My mother was standing beside him, wearing the Queen Consort crown as she wasn't of royal blood from any kingdom, but a commoner from the district nearest to the water.

"Hm..."

I knew if I did marry Langris, he would be the Prince consort as he wasn't of royal blood, but he would still have a sphere of influence on the kingdom.

Ah, I'm getting ahead of myself.

That's only hypothetical.

But I did have some advisors know that Yuno was indeed the last heir to the Spade kingdom and have argued against me marrying Langris.

They thought if I married Yuno, it would establish a permanent alliance between the Spade and Diamond kingdoms in the recovery period.

However, even if that would be logical, I was pretty certain Yuno still wanted to become the Wizard King and didn't want to return to his homeland.

But things could change.

Besides, I only love one person and that's the nobleman Langris Vaude.

I decided to go back to the training grounds, informing my attendants they had the rest of the day off to prepare or the war and make sure their families were safe.

When I entered the control room, Fanzell was just sitting there with shock.

"What happened?" I asked him.

He shook his head. "Sorry, but I can't tell you. Sorry, Princess."

Langris and Yuno came back to the control room, sweating and their mana levels a bit lower.

"Don't tell me you spent the last 45 minutes sparring?" I frowned.

"They did,"

Langris tried to drape his arms around me in a lazy manner, but I shook my head.

"Go take a bath then you can hug me."

He frowned. "Only if you come with me."

"Eh? I don't think that's appropiate right now-"

"Don't care. Yuno, don't you dare forget our pact."

I stared at Yuno with confusion but he shook his head.

Langris brought us back to the royal bathhouse in the Diamond castle deep underground where hot springs were.

He started stripping and I turned around, my face red.

"What? You'll see it all eventually," I heard him move in the water, a smirk evident in his tone.

"Stay away from me!"

"Aw, are you shy, princess?"

I felt him approach and I lept away from him, refusing to turn my head. "Get into the water, you weirdo! Then I'll turn around. The steam will prevent me from seeing you."

"Oh, please. You've seen me changing. Not to mention we made out-"

"Shut your mouth before I leave!"

He only chuckled and slid into the water, sighing with content. "Don't be so shy, love."

I created a barrier out of stone using the control that was thin enough for us to speak to each other but weren't able to see each other.

I stripped and neatly folded my clothes and entered the water, sighing with content.

The water was warm and really felt good after a long and stressful day.

"Ne, (y/n)?"

"Yeah?"

"What do you think about getting married before the war?"

My jaw dropped and despite what I said previously, I stood up in such a way that my body was concealed by the wall but I could see over to his side.

He was submerged in the water except for his face, the soap hiding certain things.

"Well?"

I shrugged. "As much as I would love to, we can't let anyone be distracted by the wedding. Everyone should focus their efforts on preparing."

He nodded in agreement and opened his eyes. "Well, I suppose. But don't think for a moment that you won't see me dropping down to one knee as soon as the war is over. Now come over here and let me hug you now."

Despite my better judgement, I did as I was told and the stone wall came down.

I allowed him to hug me, moving my hair to the side and resting his head in the crook of my neck, his arms wrapping around my torso and I leaned into him.

"I really love you, so don't you dare leave me on the lurch. I expect you to survive this war or I'll personally get Rades to make you alive again."
