[14] Enigma
AHAHA DOUBLE UPDATE BECAUSE YES.
🚨INTENSE CHAPTER AHEAD🚨
Reader POV
Langris came out of the bathtub, drying off himself. "(y/n), I have an important question..." He looked around for me, only to see me were outside on the balcony in the small castle we had entered.
I had cast a protection spell around it using my magic reinforce with Dominante's invisibility magic.
He changed into PJs and came outside.
"Good evening, Langris." I greeted him with a kiss.
He stared at the night sky. "(y/n), do you see that over there? That's the constellation Chevron (she-vrooon). According to Spadina Mythology, Chevron was the firstborn of two powerful elements: Love and War."
As the spacial mage spoke, I felt him wrap his arms around me and rest his head on mine.
"He grew up to be a fearsome warrior for his country during the Seventy-Four Years War. Of course, no one understands how exactly this happened. Rumor has it that he became the first absolute ruler of the entire world- (y/n)?"
I had dozed off, tired from everything.
Langris held me close. "I promise you, (y/n)...I'll never let you down. I'll never let war get in the way of anything between us."
He kissed me on the lips and brought us both in for a good night's sleep.
No One's POV
Under the astronomy tower that had a magical dome to reflect the stars, Langris couldn't help but stare at them and hold his beloved close to him, reaching out to the stars.
They were so close, yet so far away.
Langris looked down at the sleeping face of the Diamond princess, sorrow in his eyes.
"I know there are secrets you won't tell me," he said in her ear, draping the blanket around them. "But I trust you. I know whatever happens, I'll stick by you."
The spacial mage knew that as tensions rose each hour, the time he had with her would be limited.
It was all designed by fate to see that these two fated lovers would meet.
But it was time that would tell if they could truly be together each of them so desired.
It was written in the stars above that they could only spend so much time together before they were torn apart yet again.
In their previous lives and the life they were living right now, it would end one way or another.
But maybe this time they could change the tide of fate with a bit of faith, hope, love, and luck.
As the war drew closer and closer to them, they knew it was almost time.
A crown princess destined by the stars to rule her people and to give up everything for her crown.
A noble destined by fate to lose everything he loves for the sake of living and to be noble for his lover.
How these two souls are tied together is truly an enigma.
Across the continent, the Princess of Hearts felt a sudden disturbance in the air and she rushed to tell the Wizard King as he was the direct link to (y/n).
Using the communication device, she warned the two monarchs about what was happening.
(y/n) was now awake and rushed to the outside, leaving the shielded castle to see the forest burning and the screaming of children and adults alike.
Reader POV
Everything was silent.
I could only focus on the man in the sky, a smirk on his face and a throne of bones surrounding him.
My grimoire opened to reveal a new spell.
"Winter God Magic: Aura of Kali."
The clouds let out a threatning storm of snow and lightning, paving the way for a huge sword in the sky, blue lightning surrounding the area.
But there was something wrong.
I took a look at my reflection through my ice shield that I placed on all of the villages near a 500 kilometer radius.
My eyes were completely black and it was almost as if I were possessed once more.
Kali is the god of death, time, and doomsday.
Yet she is a motherly figure and symbolizes motherly love.
The raging inferno in my heart and determination to protect my people overrode anything else.
"Well, well, well..." the person surrounded by bones said. "If it isn't the last Korenthan."
"You've wronged my people far too many times," I spat. "Let it be known that I am very much alive: and I am ready to kick your sorry ass out of my kingdom!"
I folded my hands and the spell was brought down on Zenon Zongratis, one of the Dark Triad.
"It is lovely to see you again," he said as he got ready to block my spell. "It would be a shame to not find out the truth behind your parents' deaths, eh, (y/n)?"
"It's Princess (y/n) Augustine Seline Korenthan to you," I spat with hatred in my voice.
He didn't give one shit, that much was obvious. "Whatever."
The huge sword in the sky came crashing down and it sliced Zenon in half, but he quickly used his last moments to reconstruct his form, laughing insanely.
"You know, for some bitch that had the audacity to steal my magic and kill me when I was a boy, you're not all that bad!"
My eyes widened and I threw up a shield around my body as he used his magic to hurt me with his bones.
"What?!"
"Don't you recognize me, (n/n)? It's me. That night you killed me, or tried to. It's me. Zeno."
Flashback
A boy a bit older than me held onto my hand tightly, refusing to let go.
"I won't let you idiots harm her!" He spat, his blue eyes ablaze with fire.
"Shut it, boy!" They used their magic and sealed him in a torture-like state.
He let out screams and I could only watch, stood frozen and unable to move.
"ZENO!" I screamed. "LET HIM GO! LET HIM GO!"
The leader of the experiments only snickered. "You two really are brats. But he should be killed right now, Princess! Trust me, you'll see him later in life and wish you killed him then!"
"I could never!" I screamed. "I love him!"
The adults in the torture chamber only laughed louder.
"You hear that?! She loves him! Well guess what, girlie?! He's not yours."
They tied me down to the table and began stripping Zeno of his power.
"Take it from us, girl." They tore Zeno's grimoire up and someone with sealing magic transferred his power to my grimoire. "You'll wish he were dead in the future."
They forced me to bury his dead body, but I was so angry.
And in that anger, a new page flipped in my grimoire despite being put in anti-magic weapons.
"Winter God Magic: Clock of Cronus!"
A huge dial appeared in the sky and they were frozen in time and then burst to smitherines.
I had stolen five minutes from time and was able to save Zeno.
I heard shouts and knew I had no time to save him completely.
"You're strong enough," I whispered to his barely functioning body. "Live, Zeno! I'll return and you better be here!"
But since I used Clock of Cronus, I was able to give him 80% of his magic back to him, also repairing his grimoire.
"I'm sorry," I hugged his body one final time and felt his hands move to hug me back, but I pushed him away into the water, protecting him in a layer of ice in hopes that he'd escape.
And I left, using his magic to get myself out.
I knew I couldn't bring him with me, but I regretted not doing so.
I regretted it every single day.
However, I was recaptured.
End of Flashback
"Zeno..."
"You say you loved me, right?!" He spat and pointed to Langris who had joined me in the sky, using a type of magic that allowed him to defy gravity. "Yet here you are! With another!"
This made Langris angry. "What the hell are you saying, asshole! Piss off!"
Zenon chuckled darkly, easily deflecting my spell. "There's something you should know about me, dear (n/n). I was taken by the king- your father- to become your betrothed when you were of age. However the night we were supposed to meet was the night there was an uprising on the capital. The same night your parents died."
His eyes glowed with rage. "I was promised to marry you, and you love me! So-"
"I don't love you!" I spat. "Not anymore. What you have done is beyond forgiveable."
"I'm done with the past," I said. "Now leave my kingdom."
Zenon only glared at me with anger and he glared at Langris with hatred. "You are a fool to let me walk free, (n/n). You will regret it."
"Get out of my sight," I spat. "But the next time I see you, I will not hesitate to kill you. Zeno, I shall be the one to kill you with my sharpest sword."
He passed through a portal, staring at me with malicious eyes one last time.
"Then I'm looking forward to it, (n/n)."
And it was all over.
I knew better than to chase him right now, so I unfroze the villages.
People were gathered near the castle, whispering.
"Who are you?!" One shouted to me.
I stood on the town square, staring at all of them with glowing (e/c) eyes that were back to normal.
"My name is Crown Princess (y/n) Augustine Seline Korenthan," I said. "And I am here to unite us! Together we will defeat the enemy known as the Spade Kingdom!"
People looked uncertain, but I spotted Mariella and my close friends nearby.
They were looking at me and nodded their encouragement.
"You are my people," I said. "And I will not hesitate to protect each of you."
"If you're really our princess, then where were you?! Why are you only showing up now?!"
I opened a portal and the Wizard King appeared with Finral and others.
Finral opened a portal to reveal the Heart Princess.
"I have been gathering allies to defeat the Spade Kingdom!" I explained. "I am here now, and I am here to stay!"
"WE WILL NOT ALLOW THIS!" A government offical screamed, summoning up his fire magic.
I glared at him and trapped him in a thick sheet of ice. "Anyone who dares to deny me my birthright to the thrown of the Diamond Kingdom shall be considered a traitor. Let it be known that I am willing to forgive anyone who has wronged the kingdom, so long as they prove themselves loyal."
Yuno stood beside me, raising his voice to join my support with my other friends.
"You should trust her!" Yuno said. "She is worthy of the kingdom. You'd be foolish to oppose her."
I glanced over at Langris, but he wasn't looking at me.
Not once.
His eyes were fixed on the distant Spade Kingdom beyond the mountains where it was always snowing.
In the morning, I made my way back to the Wizard King's war meeting room with the other monarchs.
"Ladies, Gentlemen, and non-binary folk," I smiled.
"Let's begin a plan for war."
