[11] Their Final Goodbye

Four updates yay!

Reader POV

I flew to the shadow palace where the others had already made it.

"Patri," I looked at him with disappointment. "We were wrong. It wasn't the humans who caused this."

He nodded and held my hand as we made our way to the center where others were already encountering the enemy.

The devil named Zagred.

"How do you know, sister?"

I squeezed his hand and a storm of blades rushed in front of us since we were confronted by magic from another world. "Have I ever lied to you?"

He stared at me with affection. "I'm proud of you, you know. You and your past self."

"Thank you," both my human and elf counterpart responded to him.

"(y/n)...?"

I looked up after the storm of blades passed to see Lemiel with the real Licht.

"Hello, Lemiel," I smiled at him. "It's been a long time."

"YOU KNOW EACH OTHER?!" Yuno and Asta both said at the same time.

"Duh," I winked at the pair. "In fact, I think Lemiel had a thing for me back then."

Lemiel shook his head with amusement. "Ah, sharp as ever. It's good to see you, (y/n). Thank you for protecting the kingdom."

"Of course." I took my place beside the light duo, a smirk on my face. "Where's Yami and Charla?"

"In a chamber below us," Licht informed me. "I see you and Ratri already met in this timeline as your human counterparts. How adorable."

I ignored him. "We've got to get this idiot out of here. And put the elves to rest. We don't belong in this generation."

"No," Finral shuddered.

I cast out my senses and located all the elves in the chambers of the shadow palace and nodded to the light duo, in silent agreement that we would combine all of our magic.

"It's time to correct our mistakes," Licht said to me as he took my hand. "Patri, we need you to be ready at a moment's notice."

My brother who had turned into a dark elf nodded his agreement.

It was fate that brought this awaited day to be known to all living things.

To bring a new dawn to life.

"Demon-Dweller Sword: Protecting Light."

All three of us held our hands and focused our efforts on protecting every elf and human near them in the Shadow Palace.

I watched with pride as Yuno and Asta surpassed their limits once more and it was Yami who first sliced Zagred.

"Dark Cloaked Dimension Slash: Equinox." Yami's magic enforced with Charla's briar magic won us our first victory, but it was far from over.

Everything was a haze and I felt my magic drastically tank.

"Don't worry," Patri said to me as he caught me in his arms.

"Please, finish this," I placed a hand on his cheek.

He nodded and kissed my forehead. "Rest well, sister. We will finish this."

And I was out.

I didn't wake up until much later when I heard my elf counterpart speaking to me.

"Thank you," she was saying to me as she held hands with Ratri as the captain of the Golden Dawn infused his tree magic with Licht.

"Demon-Dweller Sword: Spirit Light Tree."

Langris was beside me on the ground, holding me tightly as we watched the elves allow themselves to be exorcised.

I looked down and saw the mark that was on my left hand had disappeared.

Don't worry, my elf counterpart whispered in my ear even though she and Ratri were far away now. You haven't lost all your magic. Consider it my last gift. Go find your place in the world, sister human.

I closed my eyes and wished a safe passage for my counterpart and all the other misguided elves to the afterlife.

"Did that really happen?" Langris's voice brought me back to the current time. "It's weird how our elf counterparts were also together. How...fascinating."

A huge burst of flames alerted me of his glourious arrival.

It was the captain of the Crimson Lion Kings.

"Indeed it is," Fuegeleon glanced down at us. "You did well, Korenthan."

I leaned closer into Langris's embrace, noticing how my right ankle was broken.

He must've noticed too and shook his head. "Don't use your magic, (y/n). You've used far too much. I can't bear to see you weak like this. Don't worry, someone will fix your ankle."

We could only watch the elves go back to where they belonged in the afterlife.

I was pleased to know my counterpart was reunited with her lover Ratri.

From the memories and visions I had, I could tell they were truly soulmates destined to be together.

It was funny how the very thing that tore them apart brought them back together once more.

As the sun rose, Patri came to fetch me.

"Lemiel wants to speak with you one last time along with Secre," he informed me.

Langris glared at him and was about to say something when I squeezed his hand and he calmed down. "Just don't try anything sketchy."

I leaned on my elf brother's side and he helped me to Lemiel.

"It's a shame I didn't get to speak to your counterpart before she left," he teased. "But I suppose you'll do." He placed his hand on my head. "You've done well for yourself."

"Thank you."

He turned to Secre. "I trust you two will continue to watch over the kingdoms. Not just the Clover Kingdom. But I mean everyone. I am pleased to see how the dreams I shared with Licht are still very much alive." He turned to Asta and Yuno. "Especially you two."

He then turned back to me and hugged me. "As you know, I was in love with your counterpart. I do hope I see her in the afterlife since it's my time. But you, (y/n) Korenthan, your task is not done. You've a great destiny before you. I only wish I would be able to walk with you."

As the sun rose higher, his body became dust and slipped from my hands, leaving behind a single ring that had the crest of the Silvamillion family.

"I love you," he said one last time before he dissappeared completely.

Secre picked up the ring and handed it to me, bowing. "Here, (y/n). It belongs to you."

I shook my head. "Secre, it doesn't belong to me. He would've wanted you to have it."

"But-"

"Keep it," I said. "After all, you and I are going to be watching over the kingdom, eh? I don't need the ring since I've already got all the memories. It's yours."

She slipped the ring on, smiling at me. "Thank you, (y/n). You'll make a fine ruler one day."

"Yeah..." I leaned into Patri's side as he hugged me tightly. "I can only hope that nothing will destroy everything."

But as everyone knows, where there is good, there must be evil.

In the hours that followed, I was brought back to the Golden Dawn to rest.

I felt someone else join me in the hospital bed, holding me dear to them.

"Langris, get off her!" The nurse pleaded.

I opened my eyes and saw Langris shoot her a deadly look.

"No. She's mine."

I moved and leaned closer into him, inhaling his comforting scent of saige. "Langris, don't be rude to her."

"(y/n)! You're awake!"

I placed a finger on his lips. "Still tired. Just don't fight the lady, okay?"

The nurse only sighed and shook her head. "Ah, young love. I suppose I'll leave you two alone. But absolutely no funny buisness! Your bodies are still recovering!"

I fell right back asleep, too tired from the night before.

Everything felt right in the world.

A while later, I awoke again and saw it was 1:29 pm.

Langris wasn't on the bed anymore, but he was talking to Yuno outside the curtains that shielded my bed from the others in the hospital wing.

"You can't talk to her," Langris was saying. "She's still recovering, and frankly, why aren't you?"

Yuno's answer was too soft for me to hear, but it ticked Langris off.

"What the hell do you mean your body is stronger! Get lost, peasant!"

I moved in my bed and the curtain moved open as Langris was still glaring at a departing Yuno, flipping him off.

"Ahem," I raised an unamused eyebrow at him. "Langris."

He sweatdropped. "What?"

"You know what I just saw. Go apologize to him later."

Langris only scoffed. "Yeah, yeah." He sat down on the bed, still wearing his pajamas and placing a hand on my forehead. "Well at least your fever went down. Baka, you shouldn't overexert yourself."

I allowed him to climb onto the bed with me, resting his face on my chest. "Yeah, well we just saved the damn world last night. And I am the crown princess of the Diamond kingdom. I'll be fine."

"Lies," he said and pushed me back down onto the bed after I tried to get up. "You need to rest. Don't make me use my position as the vice captain to make sure you rest because you know damn well I will."

I smiled and poked his cheek. "I know you will. I won't take any missions and allow my body to heal. You should do the same."

He sighed. "I suppose you're right."

Neither of us knew, but some of the Golden Dawn members were outside the door to the hospital wing and could hear everything that was said.

Vangeance POV

I was on my way to the hospital wing when I spotted the trio listening in.

"They're so cute together," Mimosa giggled. "It makes me jealous!"

"Well then go find someone for you!" Klaus said to her.

"Don't be stupid," Yuno said. "You don't want to be like them. They're too clingy. How she can put up with them is beyond me."

Klaus sighed. "It's true love, dearest Yuno."

"Ahem," I got their attention.

Alecdora moved away, trying to make himself not in the blame. "Captain! It is not what-"

"Peace, Alecdora," I said to him and removed my mask to everyone's shock. "I wish to speak with them in private. Respect my wishes."

I closed the door behind me and spotted the duo about to fall asleep.

"Pardon me," I said.

Langris groaned and rolled off her, glaring at me. "What is it, Captain? Can't you see-"

"I know, but this is important." I brought a chair over to the bed and held up (y/n)'s grimoire that was now changed. "Your grimoire was blessed by the gods last night."

"What does that mean?" Langris spat, feeling more protective of his new lover than ever before.

"Calm down, Langris. Nothing bad. Or at least, that's what we believe." I pointed to her left hand. "The mark of the gods also appeared on your left hand last night. Julius, Yami, Dorthy, Charla, and I believe that means that you've leveled up."

(y/n) moved Langris off her, patting his hand. "So what does that mean for me?"

"It means you're one of our main fighters." I looked into her eyes and spotted how they were sparkling with anticipation. "Lord Julius wants to meet with you today."

"Oh, okay."

"I've gotten someone to heal you up, but we'll still be careful as you really did exert lots of mana last night," I looked to Langris. "I'll need you to watch her for me."

"Of course," he scoffed. "What kind of man would I be if I didn't protect the one I love?"

He was saying the last part to her, his voice getting soft.

I watched with amusement as they stared at each other, well aware they hadn't confirmed their relationship. "Good. I'm trusting you as my vice captain and as her lover. I'll see you at in an hour. Oh, and (y/n)? Patri has been spared for his crimes so long as he helps to rebuild the kingdom. I trust you'll want to speak to him?"

She nodded, not really listening but busy staring into her lover's eyes.

"Nevermind," I chuckled and walked away.

Ah, young love.
