The atmosphere was comforting, the cheerful staff, the modern decor, the melt in your mouth pastries, heck! Even the kind guests added to the fact that this coffee shop felt like home.

I had just moved here in Los Angeles  from my home in Canada, things were defiantly different here, but I didn't mind that, it was a change that I was seeking, a change that would help me find who I really am.

Oh by the way my names Elizabeth Miller but my friends call me Ella, I'm 16 and in my second last year of high school.

My family owns a nice little restaurant called the Maple Way, it was a popular restaurant, but not so popular that people from all over the world would come and taste the food and enjoy what we had to offer, it was just one of those family friendly businesses that became popular within that city, and that was it. If I hadn't moved away I would have been forced into the family business, as much as I loved the place and my family, it just wasn't what I wanted to do my whole life, so I moved here in LA.

I grabbed my cup of winterberry tea, and was about to take a sip, before a friend of mine stood in front of my table, her hands holding up her body as she leaned on the White round table

"Hey Ella!"

I look over the top of my cup, staring into her big brown eyes

"Hey..."

She smiled a big smile, and at that moment I knew something was up

"What is it now Allison?"

Her smile turned into a playful pout as she pulled out a chair and sat beside me, her long blonde hair cascading down her shoulders

"Aw can't I have a little chat with my bestie?"

Her hazel eyes sparkling as she pouted even more. I placed my cup down on the table.

"Well every time you say 'Hey Ella!' It usually means you want something from me"

She places her elbows on the table and sets her head in her hands, a curious expression on her face

"No not all the time, I just wanted to ask you something"

I raised my cup closer to my mouth, taking a sip of the nice smelling tea, I wasn't interested in anything but relaxing at the moment

"Fine, ask away"

She smiled wide as the curiosity in her eyes grew

"Ok, well, I was wondering if you had a boyfriend"

I nearly choked on my drink, I never really thought about it

I looked to her shock evident on my face

"W-wha? Why would you ask that!?"

She shrugged her shoulders

"I don't know I guess I was just curious, you never really talk about your love life, so I was just wondering"

I guess that was true I never really talked about my love life or my personal life to her or anyone for that matter so I guess it was only natural for her to ask, but at the same time what would I say, I don't have a boyfriend! So that would be the answer to tell right?

Wrong!

Knowing her if I told her that I didn't have a boyfriend she most likely would set me up with one of the guys she knows and trust me, they aren't the type of guys you would go on a nice date with. So my only open option was to lie, I hated lying, especially to my friend, but if it was to make her happy and get her off my back, I would do it.

"So do you?"

She leaned forward a bit, trying to encourage me to tell her, I hesitated wondering if this was the right thing to do. I looked deep into her milk chocolate eyes, just a small sliver of hope was found, and I knew that I had to no matter what

"Yes, yes I do"

My breath hitched as I waited for her response, it was just silence-

"OH ELLA! I KNEW YOU WOULD CAPTURE THE HEART OF A BOY SOONER OR LATER!!!"

-until she stood from her seat and hugged me. I breathed a sigh of relief.
She sat back down in her seat

"Oh I can't wait to meet him! It is a him right?"

I stared at her, my mouth agape, my cheeks started to turn a slight shade of pink

"Of course it's a boy! Who do you think I am!?"

She giggled a little at my flustered face,

"I know I know, I'm just messing with you!"

She lightly pushed on my shoulder as she stood up

"Well I better be going now, I gotta make a call"

A mischievous grin on her face as she turned around and walked away from my table, her skirt flowing behind her.
The door soon closed as her figure couldn't be seen anymore

I sighed as I took another sip of my tea, but before I could go back into my relaxed state once more, my back pack started making sounds

That's most likely my computer

I unzipped the blue and white chevron back pack and took out my laptop, I opened it up and saw a Skype notification

"Oh it's from mom and dad, wonder what they want"

I answered the Skype call, and saw the faces of my beloved parents

"Hey mom, hey da-"

I was interrupted by a high pitched squeal

"EEEEEE MY LITTLE SISTER HAS A BOYFRIEND!!!"

My older sister came into the shot

"WHATS THIS ABOUT LIL SIS HAVING A BOYFRIEND?!"

And my older brother came into the shot soon after, I was confused as heck,  how would they know that I had a boyfriend, I didn't even have one! But then it clicked

Allison

I gave Allison my parents contact in case if something happened to me, she must have called them soon after she left.

"U-uh yeah, I have a boyfriend"

There were multiple reactions from this, my father and my brother both had looks that shows that they would kill a man, my sister was squealing and running around, and my mother nearly fainted, holding her hand close to her heart, I had a weird feeling arise with in me, and I wasn't to sure what it was, but I liked it.
I had a happy expression on my face.
Every one soon calmed down, well everyone except for my dad and my brother. I felt pretty good, I would be able to answer any questions that they threw at me, well all except one...

"So where's this boyfriend of yours?"

Yep that was the one, oh boy am I going to have fun with that!

"Uh...w-well he's not here at th-the moment..."

My mother moved a little closer to the screen, most likely to get a better look at me

"Are you sure dear? I think your hiding something..."

I started twiddling my thumbs underneath the table, I most likely would have gotten away with this if I could do one thing...

And that was actually lie

I may be doing good now but I will crumble, slowly, like a decaying brick wall...

"I-I'm not hiding a-anything!"

All of my family members looked at each other

Not good

"Oh don't be silly sis, he's probably with you, show him to us, it's fine"

My brother said, his face had a  reassuring smile but I knew deep down inside that manly mind and body of his that he most likely knew that I was telling a lie, he always knew, but I wasn't going to give in this time, but there wasn't anything I could say that would convince him that my 'boyfriend' wasn't here, so I racked my brain trying to think of something

"Well? Is he there or are you lying to us~?"

My brother had a demonic smirk on his face, he loved me, but he loved watching me panic even more, kinda sad really

"You better show him to us, or we'll know your lying"
