Just don't die.
"Ah, Elizabeth. It's so good to see you. You've grown up I see"
I smiled politely as I heard the same thing I did every year. 'You've grown up' 'Have you gotten taller?' 'It's so good to see you' blah blah blah. It gets really boring really fast, trust me.
"And who is this dashing young man?"
I wouldn't call him dashing...
"This is Cameron"
Cameron reached out his hand to my aunt.
"I'm Ella's boyfriend."
My aunt smiled widely.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. Elizabeth's chosen a very handsome young man."
I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes. Cameron smiled as he thanked her. I grabbed his arm pulling him away from her before she could endorse us in a very long and boring conversation about paper clips, yes it's happened once before.
We ran into my parents as we weaved through. I let out a quiet sigh of frustration. I was trying to keep him away from people that could ramble on about me in the most embarrassing ways possible.
"Elizabeth dear, I'm so glad you could come!"
My mother gently grabbed my shoulders and pulled me into a hug. I smiled slightly has I looked behind my mom. Standing there was my siblings.
"We have so much to talk about! Come, sit down."
She guided me to a table that could seat seven. She sat down in the seat across from me as Cameron sat beside me. My siblings sat down beside my mother on both sides, my dad stood behind my brother.
"So~ How did you two meet?"
"Uh..."
I glanced towards Cameron, he just smiled towards my mother in a kind and gentle way, completely different from when we're alone that's for sure.
"We met at a cafe. She would come in every day to order her usual"
He glanced towards me in a way to almost mock me, I had no idea way though.
"And one day she came in and spilled her tea on me. At that moment I could have sworn that she did it on purpose."
A smirk was directed towards me, I forced myself not to snarl back at him.
"He's just saying that because it's his way of hiding the fact that the urge to talk to me was too strong"
My mother glanced between the two of us, confusion clearly written on her face.
"Anyways, Cameron can I talk to you in private please?"
My brother, William (Will for short), gestures for Cameron to follow him. I leaned over towards Cameron.
"Just don't die"
He gave me a confused look. When they vanished from sight my sister, Claire, leaned forward with a giddy smile on her face.
"So, is he a good kisser?"
"What?"
"Oh come on don't tell me you guys haven't kissed yet?"
I shook my head trying so desperately to keep my face from twisting into disgust.
"You better not be lip virgin"
I looked away trying not to make eye contact.
"Elli!"
"What? I don't throw my self at boys and beg them to take my first kiss. I'm-"
"Saving it for the right man I get it I get it, but you and Cameron seem to get alone really well plus you two look so cute together"
"Yeah we get along-"
Lies
"-but I'm waiting for him to make the move."
Claire just kind of stared at me and a deadpanned look crossed her face.
"Sometime you're going to have to stop waiting, make the move. Surprise him. One day just out of the blue kiss him passionately, it'll be a real turn on"
"Claire!"
"Sorry sorry. But I'm being honest here Elli, sometime you're going to have to make the moves and not him."
"I guess so"
"Why not tonight?"
"Huh?"
"At dinner. Mom and dad plan to go get drinks a little later, you can make your move then."
"Uh I don't think that's-"
"Stop being a wimp, just do it."
"Claire-"
"Please?"
She clasped her hands together and gave me the puppy dog eyes.
I sighed knowing that there was no way out of this.
"I guess"
"Yay!"
She practically jumped over the table and wrapped her arms around my neck. Will and Cameron were walking back to the table. I signalled towards Claire, hoping one of them will take the hint and help her off of me. But Will stood there and laughed while Cameron gave me a look that says, karma, for what I do not know.
Dinner started shortly after that. We had talked about how the family was doing and business. My family started to really like Cameron, not that it's that big of a surprise, he's a lying jerk after all. My parents disappeared to the drink bar and left Claire and Will with Cameron and I. I awkwardly direct my attention to other things in an attempt at avoiding my sisters pleading looks. Eventually she became impatient and walked around the table and leaned down towards my ear.
"I'll drag Will to the dessert bar. It'll give you a chance to make the move without Will strangling him afterwards."
She winked as she pulled Will by the sleeve to a table piled with sweets like cake and truffles and so many more delicious looking things, I kinda wish I could be there right now. I looked over to Cameron who watched me intently.
"You can follow them. I won't judge if you get fat your highness"
I could feel the mockery seeping through his teeth as he spoke. I glared in his direction. Trying to be as discreet with my unhappy looks that were directed towards him because I could feel my sister anxiously watching us.
"Don't take this the wrong way."
I grabbed his cheeks with my hands and brought his face closer to mine. He cocked an eyebrow, questioning my sudden actions. I inched closer and closer with every waking second I regretted what I was going to do. Just as our lips were about to brush against one another's, I turned his head so that it was facing the dessert bar and leaving my sister with something that looked like a kiss. I stared into Cameron's eyes searching for something I didn't know. The air from his nose made my skin tingle as it grazed the surface of my face. With our close proximity the heat radiating from both of us made the rest of my body sweat. I let go slowly as I moved away. My cheeks feeling exceptionally warm, someone must've closed a window or something. A high pitched squeal echoed through the dinning hall, directing everyone's attention to my sister who stood there with a wide grin on her face. My brother wasn't as pleased.
