How are baby's born?
It had been a couple days since I became vulnerable in front of Cameron, surprisingly he hasn't said anything about it and went back to his usual self, not seeming dazed by anything. Me on the other hand, well that's a different story. Every time he looks at me my cheeks go pink and my heart starts beating. Weird thoughts about him started accumulating in my brain, I wish my head was like a computer and I could just shove all of those thoughts into the trash.
Ashley was dropped off at our apartment and boy was she happy to see us. We (more like I) didn't tell her about the passing of my aunt mainly because it wasn't of any importance to her at this age. She had shoved a piece of paper in my face along with a black crayon and demanded that I draw something, so I decided to draw a rainbow and a field. I personally think my drawing is bad but Ashley won't stop talking about it. She said that she was going to draw her, Cameron, and I in her picture. It warmed my heart to think that she thought of me as her friend or possibly part of her family.
She started colouring herself with a pink crayon. I decided to start on my boat.
"How are baby's born?"
I stared at the little girl, thinking how I should put it. Cameron sat on one of the chairs in the kitchen and I could see him snickering.
"Well a baby is in a mommy's tummy for 42 weeks before they are born."
She nodded and picked up a green crayon and started colouring the sun. I chose a blue colour for the sky.
"How does the baby get out?"
A snort came from Cameron's direction and I glared at him. I stopped colouring and thought of the best way to tell her, how do you tell a child something that 'advanced' without traumatising the poor thing.
"It there a big hole?"
Cameron broke out in full laughter and my heart started beating, he had a nice laugh. I stopped myself at that thought and didn't want to continue, but to be honest with you, I had to hold back my laughter.
"Yes. There's a magical hole that doesn't appear until the baby is ready to be born."
She stopped colouring and looked down. She pointed down towards the ground and looked back up to me.
"Will I get that hole?"
Cameron covered his mouth in an attempt at muffling his laughter, let's just say is failing miserably.
"Uh..."
I placed down my crayon and turned towards her.
"Y-yes."
She nodded and went back to scribbling in the sky. I could see the gears turning in her head and I was glad she didn't ask anymore questions, I didn't need anymore embarrassment.
Not long after our little colouring session, I decided to make dinner. She enjoyed it with a smile. Putting her to bed was probably the easiest it's ever been. When I exited from my room Cameron stood beside the door with a smirk.
"A magical hole huh?"
I shook my head and turned on the television.
"What? Would you rather I say the whole truth? I'm sorry, I'm not telling her the stork story because it'll give her nightmares"
"Why would it give her nightmares?"
"Because, I was told about the stork and it gave me nightmares and I was afraid that the stork would come back and take me from my parents and my family"
Cameron chuckled and stood up to go to his room. I was going to throw a snarky remark at him when my bedroom door opened and out walked Ashley in her little purple nightgown.
"Ashley what's the matter?"
I asked in a soft voice.
"Does it hurt when the baby come out of the magical hole?"
Cameron laughed as he entered his room, I mentally thought about strangling him.
"Yes it does."
She nodded at turned around and walked back into my room. I fell sideways and landed on my side on the couch. I took a deep breath, I was so glad she didn't ask how they were made, that would've been an interesting conversation.
