vingt-deux
Snow flurried around the small clearing, the destruction of the couple visible by the large circle that showed nothing but debris and ice. Branches and leaves from the fallen trees were scattered around them, stumps stood cracked and splintered dangerously frozen over. Around them was ice, so much of it in dangerous points showing away from the pair that rested in the middle of the chaos on a bed of snow.
Fire and ice rested together as their skin touched carefully, clothes torn away and long forgotten in their haste. She lay beneath him, his arms pinning her to the ground gently- his face pressed close to her chest counting each and every time she exhaled.
He panted, tan skin kissed a beautiful golden colour caressing the plains of her snow-white body. His breath was visible in little puffs before him, the snow did nothing to bother him- the heat of his own skin melting it away.
Erica lay quietly, fingers brushing his dark hair- tugging occasionally earning a soft grunt and a growl from the boy. He tightened his arms around her and she hissed at the force that he used.
He was lucky that he healed incredibly fast for she had gripped onto his skin roughly earlier before, skin breaking beneath her finger tips and blood staining her deft fingers. She had bruised him, bloodied him in the heat of the moment.
Even now she could see the marks faintly on his skin, slowly fading away and she smiled at it, crimson eyes drinking in the damage that she had inflicted. A sly smile puled at her lips, breathing him in- the smell of him and his blood in the air was driving her mad.
He was sinful, the feel of him better than any other she could imagine- his body that of the darkest temptation. His warmth suffocated her, drowning her in everything that is him. The hum of his vein was a serenade made specifically for her.
"What happens now?" he mumbled, lips grazing her collar bone.
Glancing down to him, she arched an eyebrow before rolling her head to the side. She focused on he things in the distance, at the snow that was pilling high around them and the sparse sunlight that broke through the trees a few miles away from them.
"I guess I go back to playing the bad guy, and that you go back to playing secret hero of the tribe," Erica told him, not bothering to react when his growl vibrated against her skin.
"Why? Why can't you just let this go?" he hissed. Paul pushed himself away from her hastily, as if she was a disease that he didn't want to contract.
"Let this go? You think this is easy for me? They murdered my brother, they stole from me the one person that has been at my side since as long as I can remember," the blonde stood to her feet, hands clenching at her side and the snow around them picked up- whipping around them and sticking to her cold skin.
"You were just like this before he died so don't go blaming all of this on his dying," Paul rounded on her- a scoff passing from Erica's lips at the sight of the fury in his eyes.
"You don't understand this, do you? I am a monster, a demon with no soul. I grew up in a time where if you strayed from the path of god then you would be forced to live an eternity of damnation. I didn't have a choice like those Cullen's did about being the good little creatures of your dreams. James and I had no idea what we were until we became stronger than the monsters," Erica crept closer, lithe body meddling in the snow as- disappearing from sight, her voice echoing around them. "I didn't want to fear the demons of the world, so I became one. Humanity means nothing to a person that has no beating heart."
Paul spun around wildly, eyes searching for his imprint that he could no longer see through the heavy snow. "It's your fault for choosing to become a bloodsucker."
Time froze, snow stilling in the air before seemingly melting from sight. Erica stood before him, white flecks covering her body and forming a sheen layer blocking her bare skin from his view. He eyes blazed blue, dark circles heavy under the red riming of her lash-lines.
"You think I chose this? You have no idea what it feels like," she yelled at him. Her steps were unsteady as she moved away slower than a human would have- chest heaving with unneeded air. "I didn't want to live this life, I was happy when I was alive!"
Erica fell to the floor, world spinning and she clawed at the skin of her arms. There were times, it seems, that she could not calculate the reactions and calculations of her life to a fault. Her mind was fatally flawed- memories a vice that held her down to the scraps of a human life she could hardly remember.
She knew that at a time she had her own hopes and dreams but never had she thought of those while with James. No, it was the shifter that stood before her that made her second guess every decision she had ever made.
Evil was not something that one genetically inherited, though it was unlucky that both her and her brother seemed to possess the trait. They were ruthless and bloodthirsty- they had done so many horrible things but even so she couldn't bring herself to regret them.
"Dying hurts, turning was excruciating," Erica tells him, eyes finding his as frost spread over her. "I had drowned. I was out searching for my brother and got caught in a blizzard. I knew my way around the forest pretty well but not enough to stop prevent my own death."
Paul came closer, feeling drawn to her the longer she spoke. He could not recognize her voice without the smug tone of the malice that normally characterized it.
"You fell in," his statement was more of a question.
"Fell," she scoffed, eyes rolling at the insinuation. "The lake was frozen over a few days prior the blizzard, perfectly fine for me to walk across when I was last there with my brother. The ice had cracked beneath me and there were not scenarios that I could think of that allowed me to survive when I fell in."
He moved forward, hesitantly wrapping his arms around her and placing his chin upon her shoulder. He didn't move, his heat melting the snow from her skin as her eyes flickered back to a ruby colour.
"What does it feel like?"
"Dying? Well it leaves you feeling very panicked, the water was freezing and it shocks you into attention. They claim that you get filled with this energy to move but you get so cold that you freeze up. Water will flood your lungs, burning your chest until you feel numb," Erica explained, she felt nothing when she spoke of her own death- feeling like it was nothing in the slightest. "Turning was different. It's a fire made of ice that takes over your entire being, stealing your soul from you and leaving an uncontrollable thirst in it's wake."
A kiss was planted to her neck over where her pulse should have been. He was gentle, and Erica always had to remind herself that he was gentler than she was.
"What do you remember of when you were human?" Paul whispered, lips brushing her ear.
"Dying."
Snapping, she was pressed against his chest in a flash- lips attacking his hungrily. The pair tugged at the other, Erica's fingers gripping his hair and tugging him down so that she was on top of him. She straddled him easily, Paul letting her hold down his arms and he gazed at her with eyes blown wide in wonderment.
Placing kisses across his jaw, Erica worked her way down his chest- dragging her nails into his skin until his groans filled her ears.
Smirking, she continued her way lower- his body going tense beneath her as small shivers made their way through him. Her tongue flicked out, tasting his skin as she grew dangerously low.
"God, Erica."
Seattle was much different from the woods of Forks. It was louder, blaring in her ears causing her good humour to drop significantly.
The various scents that bombarded her had the fire in her throat burning painfully but she refused to feed no matter how many souls tempted her. Erica could still taste him on her tongue- all sunshine and warmth, a bitter sweetness that left her feeling incredibly fulfilled.
Her feet crunched on pieces of glass that lingered around where the newborns had hidden themselves. Hiding herself in the shadows, Erica watched as Riley struggled to keep them in check. Most of the new recruits acted violent, others hid in corners away from the chaos.
Shaking her head, she spun on her feet and went on a search for Victoria. It had been two nights ago that she had last seen the girl and she had little to no idea where the girl hid.
Erica was never good at tracking down the girl with a gift of survival, she instead thrived on trying to out think her moves based on what she knew of her. It left her with little to go on other than the idea that Victoria would try to remain close to her pawns for revenge.
Wandering around the shadows on the rooftops in only a large shirt, the blonde sped through the night- eyes sharp and nose held high in the air to catch a scent of her sister. She was a blur, landing herself on the outskirts of Seattle- the smell of blood overwhelming around her.
Following the scent, Erica led herself into a wooded area, a small cottage tucked away from sight of the naked eye. Approaching without fear, Victoria tensed and froze as she entered. The redhead hissed in her direction, nose crinkling at the smell of wolf on her skin- stopping once she realized that it was only Erica.
The redhead immediately slipped into a casual stance, a smug smile clear on her lips, mocking in the way she regarded the blonde. Nose still scrunched, Victoria made sure to keep her distance.
"Looks like you had fun," Victoria teased, moving to get further away. "But you really need to shower. You smell disgusting and you look like a mess.'
A bar of laughter sounded harsh in the quiet surroundings but easily lifted the mood even more. "Find me some clothes to wear and I'll shower."
Sauntering further into the cottage, Erica made sure to brush against the other girl earning a shove. She laughed loudly, eyes glittering with mischief.
"Oh, Vic! You need to deal with Riley. The brats keep making messes and drawing attention," Erica called behind her, closing the door firmly. "We also need to talk about your plan. I don't want your little mistakes getting close to the tribe."
Victoria calculated her, analysing her moves. "Why?"
In the times that she had spent with her brother, Erica knew that she had lost sight of the girl she once was to a new girl- one that was stronger and meaner than anything she had ever believed possible. It was easy in her mind, she did not regret the choices she made and would not mind being the villain.
She would be the bad guy if it meant that she got what she wanted. Erica had always gotten what she wanted and that was not about to end.
"Because if it comes to it, they're mine."
