Alternate Ending

(in which Erica does not defend Paul)

*picks up chapter 26*

Around her, ice shot up with a stomp of her foot, pushing Alice away as she made to attack from the back. Snow blew from her mouth in a harsh breath that knocked jasper back further than before, the blond flipping through the air and landing in a low crouch.

Blocking a high kick from Alice, Erica grabbed the girls leg and swung her around, tossing her into a tree - not waiting to see if she caught herself, she faced Jasper with a series of quick jabs and punches.

Leaning back as he swiped for her head, she turned her head and caught stone skin between teeth - him pulling away before she could sink any further into his wrist.

Through the snow she could feel Alice coming closer and with a split second of concentration, blue ice shot from her open palm and into the girl's leg, freezing her in her tracks and sending her to the floor.

The Cullen girl gasped in pain, hands clawing at her leg deeper in an attempt to get the limb to respond from it's frozen state.

Jasper's enraged snarl drew her attention back to him, his movements becoming harsh and abrupt. Grinning a predatory smile, she met his attacks with easy precise counters that drove them further away from his prone mate - only causing his anger and desperation to increase.

"I was originally going to make you live without her. Kill her and watch as you suffer, but with this, I know that it is impossible to leave you alive," Erica told him, leaning in close to his ear as she wrestled him, his hand free from her hair, a knee digging up into his stomach and pushing him away. "Can you imagine the pain she would feel with you gone? I can. I know the pain, I've seen it. It makes you wonder, will she move on? Forget you? That's what Victoria did, moved on to some blond boy with a pretty face."

Flipping out of the way of his next kick, Erica taunted him further with cheeky smiles and icy blue eyes. She dodged and jumped, spinning on her toes in an intricate dance as she traced ice as she went. It did little to slow his movement, but it gave her a sense of having an advantage none the less.

"Oh, are you angry, my friend?" she teased, grunting soon after as his fingers grazed against her jaw.

She laughed as he picked up speed, his moves becoming harder to block and dodge. Briefly, Erica wondered where Alice had gone, how Victoria and Riley were doing, but those thoughts were swiftly washed away as she felt that shift in the blizzard.

There was a shock that went down her back, a shiver and ache that sparked through her in a path that went through her like fire - burning.

Flashes assaulted her, the space above her heart burning black with frost bite. She would never forget the way it felt when she died, it was much the same as when her brother was ripped to pieces before her.

She would never forget the way her screams clawed from her throat in a terrifying screech that shatter the mirrors that remained in that plain ballet studio. The screams that crawled into her throat and froze over in a lump were much the same.

Never had she imagined that she would lose James, not ever, but she had never imagined it would happen twice, not to her - no one deserved to experience such a thing twice.

Thump Thump

Her body moved on her own accord, following the frantic thump of his heart through the snow that suspended itself in the air - waiting for her as she went.

The danger echoed through her, aching hollow veins as she longed to protect.

Erica would protect him. Keep him safe from the traitorous, despicable Cullen's that plagued his packs land.

A flash of blue flies in his direction, cutting through newborns mercilessly.

A hiss passed through her teeth, possessive and threatening. "He is mine. You do not touch him."

Erica didn't wait to see the rest of his fight. The blizzard had shifted, movement coming towards her that did not frighten her as intended.

Battling with Alice was not how she meant to advance, not when her target was nearby lurking outside the reach of her snow and ice.

Underestimated, always underestimated, Erica did not hold back as she faced the psychic - hitting in a flurry of blurs and flashes of electric blues, topaz and crystal whites.

She was the Snow Queen, Jack Frost, and nothing, nothing could escape her in a storm of frozen whites.

Erica willed the ice to cling, to stick to Aloce in a way that it had never done to a person before. With James at her side everything had always been made to be much more personal and close, much more hands on. He never denied her the fun she desired but she had never wanted fun without him.

Weighed down by snow and ice that was magically growing heavy, and with Jasper no where in sight, held outside her storm as she intensified her creation so it was too thick for any other to enter, Alice stood still -resigned.

A circle cleared, the eye of the storm opening for its Queen and Alice buckled, knees forcefully bending so they sunk into a fluffy layer that seeped into her clothes, chilling the vampire in ways that was so unique to Erica's gift.

"My plans had changed so many times over, sweet Alice. My heart was in a kind place only moments ago," Erica whispered, a finger reaching out to brush the other girl's hair. "You were to live, my dear, and he was to fall but I suppose it is only fair that he suffer and not you."

Alice's eyes betrayed nothing yet the sorrow and grief that struck to the tiny vampires core was easy to witness, to see.

"It will be quick, painless. I will spare you in a way that was not gifted to my brother," Erica breathed.

She stepped back, standing tall and regal before the down vampire. Blue crystal swirled around them, binding wrist tight to the earth, hunching the girl before her. Erica kept her hands steady on the girl's head.

And with an outward burst the storm cleared, snow knocking all back until there was nothing but clear sky.

It was as though in slow motion. Her eyes found Jasper's, fear and pain and rage and desperation clung to him heavily.

He tensed, running towards her through the snow that held him back.

Erica grinned, pearly teeth bared as Alice gasped a cry, a declaration of love that washed over the blonde.

And then Erica's hands were moving, a loud crack then a snap echoing around the clearing.

Still. Frozen in a way that gave a thrill. He was so still, deadly so, as be gaped at the head that was held gently in her hands - Alice was nothing but sweet, undeserving of a mate that would bring her to this.

Her anger faded, her heart soaring at his expression of utter grief. Sliding a foot against the ground, the snow raised itself around the corpse and settled. She tapped her toes and the snow turned to ice then pulled the body to pieces with harsh cracks.

She enjoyed the sight of Jasper slipping to the ground, mouth forming a silent cry as he choked tearless sobs.

More, just a little more, Erica thought, as she stomped a foot and the pieces that remained of Alice broke apart into crystal like snow - dancing around then in fun figures.

Drawing a hand out, head craddled to her chest, Erica thrust her hand into the open sky, the crystal shooting up and scattering them in indistinguishable pieces.

All that remained of Alice was the head in her hands.

"This would have been ended so easily," the words came out high with her twinkling laughs. "Had you only given us what we wanted."

Erica stepped forward, bringing herself closer to Jasper.

"All I wanted was him, all Victoria wanted was Bella. I had warned you! All of you that I was not to be taken lightly, I do not lose," Erica screamed, eyeing those that remained. The newborns drew closer to her, crouched low with a snarl on their lips.

The head was tossed forward, landing before Jasper with a small thump in the snow.

She cast her gaze away, eyes lingering on the wolves that surrounded the edges. Paul stood there, the silver grey of his coat blending to the snow in a way that made her head slightly fuzzy.

The blur of her eyes flickered back to their crimson red, a sensation that was like an itch she couldn't reach and she glared at the Cullen's, at Jasper that stayed kneeling in the snow, his mind warring over whether he should attack or craddle what was left of his love so tenderly.

"I will offer this once and only once," Erica called out. "Tell me Quileute wolves, will you join me now in destroying the Cullen's, all save the lonely Jasper, or will you perish with them?

"Will you stand in my way as I tear through them without remorse, or will you join me in defeating your enemies?"

Erica's hand clenched at her side, power surging through her as the cold easily answerwd her call.

"I do not give second chances so, will you join me, or die with them?"

Frozen, electric blue eyes darted over the wolves, watching, calculating. Paths flashed tbrough her mind, counting and planning.

They made a decision.

Erica grinned.
