07: Cinderella's dead

Her eyeballs moved beneath her closed eyelids before she slowly let them open and scrunched her face in pain as the headache came crashing in. She weakly dragged herself up while rubbing her temples. The familiarly unfamiliar surroundings made her narrow eyes in confusion as she looked here and there, trying to decipher where she actually was but the headache was making it difficult for her.

Suddenly, the doorknob twisting sound was heard, making her turn her face in an instant and a dark-haired tall man walked inside with a bowl of ice water and a towel in his hands.

"Oh, you're awake," he spoke, giving her a smile before walking toward her bed and placing the bowl down on the nightstand beside her.

"Sehun?" she looked at him confused, "What am I doing in your house?" she asked because she couldn't remember what happened.

"Ah? You don't remember, Aira? You were literally walking on the road under the rain as if you just broke up with your partner," he laughed lightly, "You almost crashed into my car and when I came to you, you fainted so I thought of bringing you home," he explained, genuinely being worried for her.

Just when Aira's ears took in those words, everything came crashing down onto her, every scene from being pregnant and getting kicked out of the house by Jungkook flashed in front of her eyes.

She was hurt, so hurt. Not because she was kicked out of the house but because Jungkook was the one who did it and he didn't trust her. Heck, he didn't even give her a chance to even speak for herself.

"Are you okay? Did something happen?" he asked when she went silent. She wasn't a quiet person but a troublemaker, he knew her well enough for a best friend.

He slowly extended his hand to reach out to her and placed it over hers which were lying on her lap when a tear fell down over the top of his hand and he looked at her with widened eyes. She was crying.

"Hey, why are you crying? Tell me, what's wrong, Aira? Did someone hurt you?" he hurriedly grabbed her hands and she sobbed harder.

"J-Jung . . . Jungkook," she managed to say his name between her sobs and Sehun's eyebrows twitched in confusion.

"Okay, sweetie, please calm down first. Then you can tell me what Jungkook did okay?" he softly spoke while rubbing Aira's back to comfort her.

After some minutes of crying and sobbing, her breaths became stable once again as she calmed down. Sehun passed her a glass of water and she gulped it down, heaving out a sigh.

"You good now?" he asked, putting his hand over her head and Aira nodded slowly, "Okay, will you now tell me what happened?"

Aira sighed once again, gathering herself together before she told Sehun the whole story. As he kept listening, his heart hurt for her and his blood boiled because of Jungkook.

He was gritting his teeth and his fists were clenched so hard that the veins of his hands were visible. He was fuming in anger, feeling absolutely disgusted by what Jungkook did.

"He kicked you out of the house without even listening to you once? Is that how understanding - like you've always said - of a partner he is? Didn't he trust you enough, Aira?" he asked, remembering Aira and her talks about Jungkook, his understanding and sensibility was her biggest flex back then after all.

Aira sadly smiled, lowering her head in disappointment because she expected everything except this, not even in her dreams.

"He broke my trust, Sehun. He questioned my dignity. I . . . I still can't bring myself to believe that he could do something like this," her voice was trembling and weak as if she didn't have the energy to speak anymore.

Sehun came forward, embracing her in a side hug while he rubbed her arm slowly.

It felt like her world just collapsed and she didn't have anything left. Her heart was so cold as if someone froze it. After all, her own husband, her other half didn't trust her. What else had she left?

This; this little unborn being inside her, she still had him to live for, to take care of. How could she forget about her baby?

She caressed her belly tenderly out of affection and looked at Sehun.

"I know Jungkook will regret it today or tomorrow but I will do my best to raise my child with what I've. I will make sure they grow up well," her hands rested on her belly and she slightly smiled at Sehun.

"I'm sure you will. I'm with you," he softly spoke, nodding his head at her and she felt grateful and happy that he believed in her, unlike her husband.

"Are you alright though? You were under the rain-" his sentence was cut off in the middle when she suddenly sneezed.

"Oh, bestie! There you go, who the heck told you to walk in the rain?" he snapped at her like a father while she rubbed her nose.

"Sorry," she pouted.

Sehun shook his head and up from the bed, walking out of the room, making Aira confused if he was mad. He came back after a couple of minutes and placed a pair of white sweatpants and a pink hoodie on the bed beside her.

"Here, change your clothes into this and I'll go make some hot soup for you," he spoke and Aira softly smiled at him. He still was her caring best friend.

"Thanks," she thanked him as he left the room and grabbed the clothes, making her way to the bathroom.

Jungkook came out of the bathroom wearing gray sweatpants along with an oversized white t-shirt, small droplets of water dripping down from his wet bangs as he rubbed them with the towel.

While rubbing his long black hair, he made his way towards the bed and sat there, a sigh leaving his mouth right then. He found himself staring into nothingness, the pain still fresh in his heart.

A sudden loud buzz caught him off guard, causing him to come out of his trance and jerk because of the sudden noise. He witnessed a smartphone ringing on top of the small table located near the window.

It was Aira's.

He dragged himself to the other side of the bed and stared at the buzzing device for some seconds, contemplating if he should pick it up or not. It showed an unknown number.

His eyebrows squinted together, a frustrated sigh leaving his mouth and he picked up the phone, sliding his thumb on the right side and placed it on his right ear.

"Hello?" he spoke first and a familiar voice came from the other side.

"Good evening. This is Dr Byul here, may I talk with Mrs Jeon?" he raised one of his eyebrows, confused about why she was calling at this time.

"Evening, Doctor. This is Mr Jeon here, you can discuss the matter with me that you wanna talk with her," his voice lacked emotions.

"Alright. I wanted to inform you that Mrs Jeon seemed to be in a rush and she forgot to take the reports. I'd request you to collect them from the hospital premises,"

"Reports?" he was totally clueless at this point.

"Mrs Jeon didn't tell you about the reports?"

"No?" he answered in a curious yet confused voice, enough for the doctor to understand.

"Oh well, Mrs Jeon visited our hospital regarding her sudden pregnancy today when we were just about to inform you about the inconvenience caused by us . . ." the doctor said in a regretful voice and her next words made the ground slip beneath his feet.

"We're extremely sorry for making such a mistake of mixing reports of you, Mr Jeon and another who is Mr Jeon Junghyun."

what do you think? was jungkook's quick assumption about his wife's sudden pregnancy was right or not? is it a reasonable misunderstanding or betraying of trust?
