Fast forward to about five, six months of serious reading, love, small small fights and exams.. I'm seated in the hall rented by the school about to undergo this ritual.

Called Graduation.

Somebody smack my head for me. Wasn't it just yesterday that I came down to Nigeria from America? And now I'm going back there.

Since Tony and I were going back to America on the same day and same flight, we decided to just move into the same neighbor hood. Apparently, his father had sold his own house because he thought he was going to just stay in Nigeria.

But things changed when he heard what Tony's mother did to Tony. They technically weren't married, they just hooked up once, resulting to Tony. So his father didn't hesitate to send her to jail.

And make him move back to America.

Back to present.

Today is our graduation. I'm finally getting out of this school. Not like I won't miss it. Of course I would. There is no way you'll graduate from a school and not miss at least one thing about it. No matter how irrelevant that thing is.

As for me...I was going to miss the principal's big eyes, Mr. Hassan's extraordinary factors, the school's jellof rice and chicken, all those aproko juniors and most importantly....Yimika.

She was going to stay back in Nigeria. With Daniel. Need I say that she broke up with Thomas like how many months ago because she wasn't that happy with him.

Just like I said she would.

"Best in Mathematics, Tony Bassey" We all clapped and cheered him on as he stood up looking surprised.

He collected his gift and took and picture before walking back to his seat "I'm proud of you" I smiled at him and he smiled back "Thank you poop"

Here we go again.

I rolled my eyes ignoring him. "oya cookie. M&M . I'm sorry"

"Yemisi"

Poke

"Yemisi"

Poke

"Ye-"

"I've heard jor" I laughed.

"Best in English Yemisi Simon"

I smiled and walked to the stage collecting my gifts and then smiling at the camera.

"Now I'm proud of you" Tony said and I laughed.

"Best in Chemistry Oreoluwa Olatunji"

"Best in Biology Simisola Ogundele"

"Best in physics Chiamaka Godwin"

"Best in Home management Yimika Owolabi"
.

I swear I stood up and clapped for my baby girl. "That's my girl!! " I cheered watching as she laughed at me from the stage.

"Best in Further Maths Yemisi Simon"

"Best in Technical Drawing Kosisochuckwu Madueke"

"Best in literature English Blessing Onuoha"

"Best in Arts Iyanuoluwa Temi"

"Best in government Stephanie West"

After awarding the students, the school choir sang for us all and then the pastor preached, our good bye notes and dedications were read out. After the whole thing, we began to eat.

I ate o! Like I ate so much!

after the foods were given out, we all went to change into mufti. The school had hired a band to play for us while we danced around.

"May I?" I heard a very familiar voice ask from behind me. "Yes you may" I giggled.

He held my hand and we both began to dance to the strange song before they began to sing 'Dumebi ' by Rema

All hell broke loose.  Tony and I paused and looked at each other.

The fire has started.

Trust me when I also say I learnt how to dance within these few months that had passed.

I bent down and began to gwara-gwara coming up slowly and then going back down. We both then started to zanku at the same time.

"How can you be dancing like that and not call us ehn? Shey ori e ko kpe?" Yimika said joining us along with Daniel.

Only God knows what she just said.

"O boy, I don't have your time now. if you are dancing, dance. if you're complaining, get out" Tony stated.

"Abeg shut up jere. " was the lame comeback that Yimika gave.

I guess I didn't teach this girl well.

"Abeg! Sisters before....whatever you people are" I playfully said  grabbing Yimika and walking away before the boys could say anything to retaliate. I took her to where my parents and sisters were seated and pulled Yinka and Temi up.

"Mummy comman dance" I said.

"Ehn? Abeg leave me alone. Three of you bye bye" she said playfully glared at us.

"Mummy is shy shy" Yinka said and we laughed..all except mom of course.

"I'll dance my own at home with your father" she said.

"Hell naw! I ain't doin' that again!!!" Dad immediately protested.

"Why? What happened?" Yimika asked

Hmm....let's take it down the memory lane and find out why dad isn't so happy about dancing with mom any longer. Especially to a catchy Nigerian song. Which was our taste of course.

"Honey! I found this new dance step on YouTube. and I love it! Nigerians even do it a lot" Dad smiled walking over to mom with his phone in his hands.

"Lemme see" Mom said and watched something from the phone "oh! I know this dance step. its called gbesode. I think. Something along the lines of that " She shrugged.

"Let's try it out then! I love it" dad squealed pumping his fists in the air, behaving like a teenager again.

"Okay okay! You stay in one place jor! Oya I'll go first watch and learn o" Mom warned. Dad nodded and moved back a little to give her space. but I guess he didn't know she would've needed more space. But she didn't even realize it.

"Get ready for some cringe" Temi whispered to only Yinka and my hearing.

"I swear" we both laughed at the same time.

Mom tilted backwards putting her two hands on her chest while they were crossed and jumped up, pushing her left leg forward forcefully.

Hitting Dad....where the sun never ever shines.

She even ended up on the floor with a bruised arm. But dad....I could never imagine the pain.

But still trust us bad belle's. We three were laughing. I mean laughing hard! Yinka fell onto the floor while laughing, Temi also fell back wards with her chair while laughing and where was Yemisi? Standing on top of the dinning table....while laughing.

Dad shuddered at the thought and I snickered. Hmm...those days.

"Lord!" Yimika laughed while dad glared at her "I swear teens of nowadays show no pity" he muttered.

"Abeg. Forget them for now.. Let's go" Temi said pilling the two of us away. "Shebi you'll comman ask me for gala! Or even new pairs of Jordan's tomorrow. You'll see who'd be forgotten!!" Mom yelled behind us while we giggled.

We began to dance, zanku, shaky shaku, gwara, breakdancing, moon walking, reversing, turning around, drinking, laughing....it was a blessed moment that I'd never ever forget.

We took so many pictures and posted them on our Instagram stories and even the page itself. I personally even made a highlight for #graudation2k19 and friends.

We made a timeline together at the end of the whole ceremony also.

Yimika suggested we met up at my house, since it was the easiest for us.

"We should never give up on our friendship no matter what you know? This past life has made us stronger and better. I remember the days where you were missing" Yimika said pointing to Yinka "we...Yemisi, Daniel and I, would sit for hours trying to get the best possible way to look for you. And then...Yemisi got kidnapped. God! Daniel and I almost had heart attack."

"And then I met Temi" I smiled at Temi, who beamed at me in return.

"I'd never imagine what life would've been like without you all...and God"  Temi said.

"I can't believe you're going back to US" Yimika sniffed

"Abi? I'll miss you all tho" Daniel added

"Oooo. this thing is getting too deep jare! Who wants to do a photo shoot with me? For like friendship and sister goals? We'd get copies for everyone and frame them. So wherever we go or live we'd hang them on the wall and remember ourselves"

"With or without photos...I don't think I'd ever forget you guys" Tony said.

My God! I'm going to cry.

"Like? You guys mean a lot to m--"

"Shut up na! I'm going to start crying! Think of funny moments. We'll have the shoot tomorrow ba?" I asked and everyone nodded.

"Who remembers the time Tony literally told everyone that Yemisi was on her period during that camping?" Daniel asked.

And they all laughed....except me, Yinka and Temi.

"Not that!!! not that one! Stop na" I screamed in embarrassment.

"When did that one happen? Tell me the full jist o" Temi said.

And they all began to explain to her and Yinka how it all happened.

Trust Yemisi to hide behind the pillar. In shame.

Lord what did I do to deserve this?

You know... We all need friends. Real friends. It isn't possible for you to be alone and just you know succeed. Even if you did...I'm sure you met people on the way whom you befriended.

Friends are part of the necessities of life. they are like icing on the cake. And I...Yemisi Nevaeh Simon. Realized that....while thinking back. I realized the things I wouldn't have been able to do if I didn't have friends.

Most especially my number one friend. The oga at the top.....God.
