Coin - A Murder Mystery 2 Oneshot

Money can't buy you happiness.

At least that's what they say. But even so, just because it can't be beneficial in some aspects of life doesn't mean it can harm one... right?

But what happens when it get pushed to its limits? What if its effects on one gets push to another end of the spectrum—the negative one? Only when a bunch of pennies actually inflict harm on someone will people fear money.

Even if it means that its only applicable to a game.

Recently, Murder Mystery 2 was allegedly hacked, and its code had been reported to be altered by the hackers. I didn't quite believe this, however. Even when others claimed that they were "banned" from the game and were unable to rejoin any of the game's servers after getting killed—whether intentionally by the murderer or accidentally by the sheriff, I refused to believe their remarks. After all, some players can really be pretentious and untrustworthy.

It was only when I experienced all of it for myself.

In what seemed to be a regular game, I began collecting coins. I was desperate to get new weapons by purchasing crates. After all, who wouldn't want an inventory full of valuable knives and guns?

Everything went smoothly and as usual. People were killed, which was normal. Gunshots rebounded through the atmosphere, which was normal. And the sounds of others collecting coins could be heard, which was normal too.

It was only when there two players left in the round when things started going downhill. In fact, there were only two players left in the server itself. And those two players were the murderer and me.

As I stared at the server list, which was barely empty, I began gulping nervously. It wasn't really because I feared the murderer, but rather because I feared the rumours. I was praying that it wasn't true that one would be kicked from the server indefinitely after dying. As I thought about it more, I began to fear the murderer too.

Because they were the only person that could kill me now.

Despite this, the carefree side of me told myself to stop being a scaredy cat and enjoy whatever I had left with the round. And so, I continued scouting the area, looking for one last coin to fill up my coin bag.

And then, just in front of an open gate was a coin. Hovering above the concrete ground, waiting for me to collect it. Without any hesitation, I grabbed the coin, and the same old sound was emitted from it.

And that was the exact point at which things went south.

Just as I was about to walk away, I could hear footsteps approaching from behind. Was I too loud? I thought to myself as I prepared to retreat. Unfortunately, it was all too late. I could hear the person behind me pushing the half-opened gate open.

The last thing I knew was I knife plunging right into my character's back. My screen blackened as the kill sound was played, giving a shock as I shook in my chair unnervingly. That wasn't the last of it, however.

A pop-up appeared in the middle of the screen, reading, 'You are no longer able to rejoin Murder Mystery 2. Goodbye.'
